I like it. They did a good job like when they covered The Chain.

I really like it also. She stayed true to the original. Everyone knows she is quite the Stevie fan.

Wow.... Next to FM, Florence is one of my very favourite artists, and I just absolutely adore her, and this performance. Very stylistically different, but so amazing!! :]

Thank you for posting that. That was REALLY good. :) I think she kind of liked doing those slightly Stevieesque moves during the solo. The understated arrangement really let the song, and her voice, shine through too. Obviously she was more influenced by the live Dance version. Really cool. Thanks again.

I feel like she kept her notes too short... wasn't flowing and full like Stevie...

I also feel like Florence was rushing... wasn't enough buildup to make the end as powerful.

I think that's just her style though. She's not Stevie.:shrug:

In 2011, Rolling Stone ran a piece about Florence + the Machine’s Florence Welch, whose subheading read, “How the arty, ethereal singer became the Stevie Nicks of the Twilight generation.” Welch herself has cited Stevie Nicks as a major idol. In case you still couldn’t detect where the influences were coming from, Welch has now gone full Stevie Nicks and performed the Fleetwood Mac track, “Silver Springs.”

Florence + the Machine shared their rendition of the song at a concert on Friday at London’s St. John at Hackney church. (The concert itself was a benefit for War Child, an organization “committed to supporting… children to
overcome their experiences [around armed conflict], and have a real chance at a better future.”)

Despite Florence + the Machine’s knack for ornate arrangement, their version of “Silver Springs” was even more instrumentally sparse than the originally, relying on a tambourine, acoustic guitar, the claps of the audience, and of course most centrally on the surprising comfort of Welch’s belted vocals.

Florence And The Machine Cover Fleetwood Mac Classic In A Church

Florence and the Machine performed a stunning cover of Fleetwood Mac’s Silver Springs at a concert in a London church.

The Rumours-era ballad was performed during a benefit gig for UK-based charity War Child, which aims to “empower children and young people in conflict areas.”

The minimalist cover, performed at St. Johns at Hackney church saw Florence Welch’s vocals take complete control over proceedings as she did an impressive job with the heartbreaking track. The Stevie Nicks original joined alongside the usual favorites such as Dog Day Afternoon and Shake It Out.

Before the Brit Awards last week a number of bands performed small gigs in support of the War Child charity, with Florence turning up at the 1,400 capacity venue with a reduced line-up but no less star power.

"We've all been affected... We're so grateful to War Child for letting us help in this small way," Welch said at the beginning of the show.

Before starting the Fleetwood Mac cover, Welch professed her love for the band. “They’re a band who I’m probably one of the biggest fans ever of,” she said to a small but vocal crowd.

It is not the first time Welch has covered a Fleetwood Mac classic though, as she also performed The Chain during her appearance at Glastonbury in 2010.
