Once great band dying on the ropes
People said give the new lineup a chance. People said they are in it for the music, not for the character of the band members.
Doesn’t seem like there’s much music or character left in this bunch. It’s sad, but hopefully the band will be remembered for what it was and this won’t really hurt their legacy which is checkered anyway. I have to admit I’m somewhat smugly gloating. although 80% plus of general classic band ticket buying public have no clue who Lindsey Buckingham is or who is or is not in Fleetwood Mac, for anyone with some clue the lackluster lounge-y performance from yesterday validated his enormous contributions, not just in studio, but also live. It also showed that some wholes are way better than just sum of the parts. And that just putting together some otherwise competent parts does not mean you’ll be able to actually get even a mediocre result. |
I couldn’t force myself to watch the performance on live tv... I waited until it was posted on here so I could decide to pause it to scream/cry/vomit. While it ended up sounding EXACTLY as I thought it would, I don’t feel vindicated. I just feel this huge wave of sadness that just keeps crashing over me. It honestly feels like it did being a Mac fan in the early/mid ‘90s when the band was a depressing caricature of itself. Except I think it’s even worse now- they redeemed themselves from that, but have reverted back to the caricature as their final act. Fleetwood Mac’s story can be summed up as a parade of missed opportunities, so I guess it’s only fitting. Still, it’s incredibly depressing.

The Stones....well they are the 8th wonder of the world. I assume Keith is getting nightly blood transfusions so he can get out there and play. I mean.... And Mick---well THAT IS ENERGY!! |

i'm not saying that you are wrong about IA sway and influence in RS or otherwise - i'm sure it is huge. just adding some perspective on HS. |

Although RS once declared that Billy and Rick were the best thing to ever happen to Fleetwood Mac.
I liked Billy and Rick, but I had to laugh a little at that. |

If I’m being honest, I was scared that they were going to get Harry Styles, which is why I am happy with Neil Finn.
