Fleetwood Mac announced as 2018 MusiCares Person of the Year

"Our 2018 MusiCares Person of the Year tribute is a celebration of firsts—the first time our annual signature gala will be held in New York City in 15 years, and the first time in the benefit's history that we will honor a band." said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of the #MusiCares Foundation and the Recording Academy / GRAMMYs.

They won two Grammys for Rumours? I thought it was just Album of the Year?

not the rumours, i think that was just one - but didn't they win some kind of grammy for the dance?

It was the one and then 2003 Grammy Hall of Fame (Rumours again). I can't be certain but as I recall that's how the press get at more than one.

ETA: apologies, ignore me, reread the press release & see I was incorrect. There have been threads on this in the past and I recalled the possibility being hall of fame or a production award.

^and by production I mean that someone, here I think, once suggested that FM members each received two Grammy's, one as artist and one as producer as the award goes to both. I can't confirm that but thought I'd pass it along. The Grammy site lists two wins but I don't see where it has specifics on the second.

This is interesting. The award is given not only for musical recognition, but for charitable works (ie, MusicCARES), which is why it's not been given to a band before. Bands typically don't do charitable works as a unit.

I wonder what philanthropic works FM have done as a band to warrant this award? Or are they just adding up the individuals' acts together?

Not sure. There was a thread a few months ago where we were discussing the band's scant philanthropic efforts. But what do we know?

I've seen these concerts on AXS TV. One more thing to look forward to in 2018.

Who wants to bet that it’s the same setlist as the Classic festivals?

Wow, very nice!

I don't think FM is performing an entire concert, more likely 2-3 songs. But even if they were performing an entire concert at this event, it makes sense they would perform the exact same set as they did before- with Buck/Vie on tour right now and the holidays coming up, the band will barely have time to rehearse before the date.

But their next world tour, that's when we'll see some changes to the set list. The question is, how many changes will they be willing to actually make?
