Hampton Beach and Calvin Theater (Northampton)

Hampton Beach - WHAT A FUN VENUE. This place is a big open room, almost like a function hall for a wedding reception. It's very wide, with the stage up against the wall. There were lots of tables with rows of seats near the front.

This was a very enthusiatic crowd and you could tell Lindsey was feeding off the energy. Everyone was taking pictures and video. The security was basically a handful of 16 year olds. Lindsey acknowledged that the last time he had been there was the Under the Skin tour.

I can't believe how good Castaway Dreams is with just him, I absolutely love it. He played 'Stephanie' a little differently this night, it was a little higher like the album version. You could tell he was playing around with the delivery. When it was over someone said "that sucked," I almost had a heart attack. I got audio of 'Stephanie.'

Go Your Own Way was the crowd pleaser. Lots of people were standing up. When he came back out for the encore he shook everyone's hand against the stage. Very short show! Lots of teenagers at the show, great atmosphere, great crowd.

Northampton

Much bigger venue than the Wilbur, with a much higher attendance. It looked like a full house! He got a standing recpetion when he came out and after several of the songs. He mentioned that he loved the venue and that he couldn't remember the last time he was there.

Stephanie got a great reaction (yes, I got the audio again). After he played it someone said "Stephanie, yeah!" and he smiled. Great show!

thanks for reviews - very enjoyable read!

love to hear about shows from people here, in addition to bunch of tweets and reviews from people who don't really know songs. it makes for so much more complete picture about what is happening at the individual shows.

there were some tweets and FB messages about whether the HB show was shorter than others (i think that was about that show?) - from your review it seemed to have been... but he did the same 13 songs, right? was there less banter with the audience during that particular show?

another thing i'm confused about - Northampton show was originally advertised as the show where M&G tix were available (and sold out within the first hr or so). was there a M&G there? unlike in Providence, i didn't see any pics or tweets about it...

also a heads up - someone who writes / edits for Popdose was at this show and tweeted after that he will have a review of the show in Popdose very soon. i suspect it will include the complaint about the shortness of the show - you see more and more of that - everybody is saying how intense and amazing the show is but that it's just too short, people want at least a bit more.

and the most important question (besides that he wore leather again;) ) - did anybody yell for Rodeo there? :p - i NEED to hear Rodeo on this tour!

The length thing really perplexes me because I think Lindsey took pride in people praising his tirelessness before. I think it was a point of honor for him to stay on stage for an entire FM set, only resting during World Turning. I think he enjoyed being that guy.

Now, he's a 90 minutes if you're lucky guy.

No, all three shows were about the same in length. The only one that might have been a tad longer was Boston and that was because everyone was shouting requests. Sadly, I never heard 'Rodeo.' I did yell that during the UTS tour and he played it at the end of the show...now that is something I will never forget. He looked extremely sleek in his blazer in Boston!
