Thanks for finding those clips, Mario! It seems like PG is enjoying himself and he sounds great too. I think his voice would gain more power if he lost some weight, though. A long tour ahead calls for a bit of work-out, doesn't it?

Mike Dodd seems to be following in his footsteps :p

Mario,

I hate to say it but something is very wrong. The alert, and focused Peter Green from November/December '09 has been replaced by the zoned out Peter Green from 2/09, and past versions.

I don't think I'm crazy, and Green is now sporting a beard stubble, as if he isn't taking care of himself. Please tell me I'm wrong, yet the eyes of the man say it all.

hey sk,

based on this i do think you're wrong. he looks a bit tired in both clips. audio and video are better in the earlier but his playing seems fine and he's smiling even more in the more recent clip

we all worry about the man because he is so dear to us. i do hope you're wrong. and i believe that mike d. and martin too wouldn't allow the show to go on if pete wasn't well. mario what do you think?

zero

I do think you are right, a 63 years old man can be a little bit tired playing 3 gigs in 3 days......

and I agree that his playing is even better than the previous tour + he seems to enjoy himself...

I don't want to make an offense to anyone, but Greeny is fine, so please don't have this crazy negative obsession about him....

Of course this is only my own humble opinion....

The only reason I had a "crazy negative obsession", which I agree now was melodramatic in description, was how good he looked from the the footage in November '09 . Since Peter Green's return to public life in 1996, I finally saw glimpses of the old Peter Green, who looked sharp, and quite alert. You do realize many casual fans that have seen these shows/concerts in person the past year still believe he's not ok. I'm not one of those people. I can see the subtle changes in the videos.

The footage taken this month shows the Peter Green from the '07 documentary. He's still there but, not as intense. Sorry, but that's just my own humble opinion. :sorry:

SORRY BUT MY QUOTING OF WHAT YOU WROTE WENT ALL WRONG; SLIPKID. HERE IS MY ANSWER:

I don't think you sound melodramatic, slipkid. I must admit I am a bit worried too.

I think that due to PG's condition, his appearrance (condition) will be very unstable from time to time. I agree that those clips from Hamburg in November shows another PG than the ones from this month. I saw PG and Friends on the 8th of November, and there he did not look well and he played distracted. I think the Hamburg shots were taken the the following night. I think we have to get used to a PG who is "stable in his unstability" (which all his family and friends have had about 40 years to get used to!). But at least up til now it seemed that someone was taking care that his physical appearence was taken care of.

Another worrying thought is the history of "others not noticing" when he was about to breakdown (or do a runner? :)) - like he said in The Splintergroup DVD (or another interview) and this - all too packed march-april tour, playing the same tunes every night (which he used to hate, according to all sources).
Like mzero said, we worry about him because he is dear to us. I also hope that The Friends really are friends.

whats all the hub bub?

Dear Folks,

I must be just an old fart or something (57 and counting), because the only thing i notice from the two side by side recordings is:
the november recording was taken with a sharper camera with a better focal length than the one in GB
Peter seems to have settled in to a groove that he likes for the song and is playing it like he might be after a bunch of nights in a row. As a musician who has just gone through a similar experience in the last couple of weeks,it could easily be construed as distracted or bored, but is neither.

What I would hope is that all those lucky fans who are getting the opportunity to see this marvelous human being live, don't go through the motions listening to him. I would eagerly take your place if I could.

yours truely,

doodyhead

Thanks Ms. Moose, for defending my opinion. What I took from the 11/09 Hamburg performance was a person alert, and in control of what he was doing. In this recent video performance, Green's voice isn't as strong (he's 63, I know), and he looks a bit haggard. I just hope this new tour schedule won't burn him out for the fourth time.

P.S. Slipkid: maybe he's growing a beard, a proces which can seem unkept in the earlier stages?

doodyhead 02-25-2010 02:33 AM

i guess I am a fool too

the video of "I guess I am a fool" was a pleasure.

I guess the real thing here is that not all of us age at the same rate or way.

some people look like they still have the spark of youth, or the style and vigor of someone much younger. Others don't.

I remember my grandmother looking ancient when she was in her fifties. I am now in my fifties and I don't look or feel anything like that ( in my opinion anyway) but I am different than I was as a kid.

What I am trying to say is Peter outwardly he just doesn't look like the skinny streetwise kid he was back 40 years ago. should he?
Thanks for posting the videos. I wish i was there. No offense to anyone intended Ms Moose and slipkid. I value your words and opinions.. I know you all just want to wish Mr Green well and as much success and pleasure as he desires.

absinthe_boy 02-25-2010 07:12 AM

Its quite likely that Peter has good and bad days. Lest we forget he does suffer from an illness which can be treated but never cured. You cannot expect him to be at his best every night of a tour.

It strikes me that he's possibly growing a beard. He doesn't look otherwise unkempt. He's wearing a nice shirt, got his bandanna on and looks washed. I do think that its possible that aspect ratio of the 2/10 vids is incorrect and a 4:3 picture has been squashed to 16:9. Also the camera seems to have been very close, Peter could have been put off by an audience member recording him from the front of the stage.

I'm not saying we shouldn't look out for Peter and watch for worrying signs in the videos. We all wish him the very best and if performing were not doing him good I am sure we would all support him in ceasing.

"The alert, and focused Peter Green from November/December '09 has been replaced by the zoned out Peter Green from 2/09, and past versions"

I can certainly see where your coming from with this, and if you think Greeny wasn't on form in Kendal then all I can say is he actually looks and sounds better here than when I saw him the night before in Buxton....

But as others have said he does have his good and bad days so I don't think something is 'Very' wrong.

Jonson
