The City

is just a reworking of “Goin’ Down” by Don Nix.

I've always heard the City in there, too! The guitar especially, but some of the melody. And then they re-did the Yardbirds (For Your Love) which had Jeff Beck.. hmmmmm... What was Bob and the band listening to? And isn't this Freddie King comp (Goin' Down)? Lots of connections.

“Goin’ Down” was written by Don Nix, but Freddie King had the famous version of it.

IIRC, Fleetwood Mac played “Goin’ Down” as the encore when Dave Walker was in the band. What’s interesting is that The Zoo encored with it in 1992 with Bekka singing lead and Peter Green did it on his 1996 comeback album with The Splinter Group.
