"... a voice that is a blend of Stevie Nicks and Edith Piaf"

her name is amanda ghost. and that's how an article i read about her described her. i don't know that i hear stevie in her voice, but i do in her style. i quite love the three songs posted on her site. she co-wrote "you're beautiful" with james blunt (try not to hold that against her if you hate that song). what do you all think?

on edit: okay, the second song on this site has some definite stevieness in it, now that i listen again. i'm really loving her. and... just found her first album "ghost stories" on iTunes!

She sounds more like Natalie Merchant to me, but I like it. And to have Joni Mitchell compliment her like that is really something. I think the only other current singer I've heard Joni Mitchell say something positive about is Norah Jones.

I love me some Joni Mitchell - Just a random question, did Joni have anthing to say about Stevie?

Wow! Her voice is great. I could only hear the song that plays when you open her sight b/c I need to dl a new version of flashplayer.
I could already see a resemblance, though. Cool find.

having spent some more time listening, i think the best song of the three is "time machine." and there is a definite stevie-ness to her voice, especially the line "what i reeeeeeally mean is i love you more than ever..."

here's the link again:

you don't need to download anything - just click on the play at the lower left where the three songs are posted. i wish i could get this on my iPod!!

THANK YOU! I couldn't put my finger on who I thought she sounded like! I definately think she sounds like Natalie Merchant. I think "Blood on the Line" is more Stevieish vocally than the second one.

When promoting her covers of standards a few years ado, La Mitchell said she thought it was funny that at the Stormy Weather live concert around that time, she said something like the promoters gave her and La Nicks, the two oldest broads there, the best dressing rooms which were like a four flight walk up

It gets me thinking about the reviewer in People magazine (Ralph Novak?) back in 1986 who said about "I Sing for the Things" in his review of Rock a Little: "She sounds like a cross between Edith Piaf & Elmer Fudd."

I have to wonder how many of these reviewers have actually heard Edith Piaf.
