They also said David Bowie would be performing... That wasn't true :/

LittleCharmer 02-05-2010 04:58 PM

I wish they'd stop teasing! I almost hope the Mac don't play, coz I know that if they do I'll spend my whole day in the front row of whatever stage they're playing.. The things I do for love.

Virtual Festivals, July 14, 2012
http://www.virtualfestivals.com/latest/news/13086

"It's the plan. Because that's what we do. Everybody is on board" is what Stevie Nicks said earlier this week when asked on US TV show This Morning (no Philip Schofield to be seen on this one) if Fleetwood Mac would be reuniting for a tour in 2013.
.
So the rumour mill splutters into life once again – when The Mac last toured in 2009, they were heavily rumoured to be headlining Glastonbury that year, until Emily Eavis put the kibosh on it all, revealing that they hadn’t been asked.

Stevie has not been a stranger to Glastonbury rumours herself, her solo show was hotly tipped to take one of the guest slots last year as she came to play Hard Rock Calling 2011 over the same weekend.

But, with the festival returning next year, and golden oldies Paul McCartney and The Rolling Stones already tipped as headliners, what price a big Pyramid Stage singalong to ‘Go Your Own Way’ and the like?

Talking of The Stones, it looks like they’re finally preparing to return to live duties, having given the oft-rumoured Olympics show a miss:

Speaking to ITN, singer Mick Jagger said: "I didn't think, to be honest, we were quite stage ready [for the Olympics]. We haven't played in a long time, and it's a very big gig and it's very risk-taking. I didn't think the band themselves felt they were really ready to do it at this point.

We hope we're going to do some gigs this year. We haven't actually finalised them, but we hope we're going to do some gigs. We've done rehearsing, hanging out together and all that discussing so you know, we've been seeing each other quite a lot."

Guitarist Keith Richards also confirmed to the BBC that the wheels were in motion: “There's things in the works - I think it's definitely happening. But when? I can't say yet. We're playing around with the idea and had a couple of rehearsals - we've got together and it feels so good.”

So they’ll be a well-oiled machine by, say, next June? Perhaps 2013 will see the band make it to Worthy Farm, with some speculating that it could be the setting for their final-ever show.

Other names in the headliner frame at this stage include The Stone Roses, Radiohead, Adele, The Killers, Mumford & Sons, Florence & The Machine, Arctic Monkeys, Jay-Z & Kanye West and even Metallica, but no-one is likely to be confirmed for a long time yet. Michael Eavis recently said that all three headliners had already been booked for next year's festival, but declined to name names.

Glastonbury 2013 tickets will go on sale at 9am on Sunday 7 October. As with the last few years, anyone wishing to buy a ticket for the festival will have to register in advance.

Registration is open now and free of charge, and can be done by heading to www.glastonburyregistration.co.uk and filling in your details and uploading a photo of yourself, which will be printed on the ticket. Every would-be ticketholder will need to register individually.

If you have registered to buy tickets to the Festival before, you may well still be registered, as you now only need to do it once, and you can also now edit the details of your existing registration (for example if you need to change your address) on the site.

Ticket prices will be confirmed at a later date.

Glastonbury Festival 2013 takes place on 26-30 June 2013 at Worthy Farm, Pilton, Somerset

RADIOHEAD have hinted that they are one of the three headline bands at Glastonbury festival this June.

THE ROLLING STONES, FLEETWOOD MAC and MUMFORD & SONS are all in the frame to top the Pyramid Stage bill.

Now THOM YORKE has let slip that his band are likely to play the Somerset event too.

Promoting his side project ATOMS FOR PEACE on ZANE LOWE’s radio show on Monday night he said that particular band wouldn’t play Glasto but that “parts” of it would appear.

Fleetwood Mac Ruled Out of Glastonbury Running

XFM, added 24 January 2013 at 17.12
http://www.xfm.co.uk/news/fleetwood-...onbury-running

Sorry Fleetwood Mac fans - they won't be playing this year's Glastonbury.

Rumours (geddit?) had been floating around ever since the first bright spark noticed that the band had a convenient gap in their touring schedule the same week as the event.

But sadly that hope has been extinguished.

Fleetwood Mac have announced a load of new tour dates for North America including some over the Glastonbury weekend.

Malian singer Rokia Traore is the only act confirmed so far as part of "an act of solidarity with the musicians from Mali", where Islamists in the north have banned music.

An artist from the country will open the Pyramid Stage each day.

The Rolling Stones are the other big rumour for this summer's event - which takes place June 26-30.

Stu 01-25-2013 05:53 AM

damn. Oh well, let's wait for the Uk dates later in the year!

The dance 01-25-2013 08:25 AM

Iconic British-American rock outfit Fleetwood Mac have announced a fresh run of US tour dates - which has pretty much ruled them out of performing at the return of Glastonbury this year.

The band, who are celebrating the 35th anniversary of their record ‘Rumours’ - which many fans claim to be their best album - are set to kick off their world tour in Columbus this April, and will tour throughout April, May, June, and into July.

Adding dates to their tour, the band have now announced a number of new shows, including gigs in Spokane, Washington on Saturday June 29th and Portland, Oregon on Sunday June 30th. This means that the band would only have a chance to perform at Glastonbury on the Friday, and would have to travel straight back to the US the next morning - suggesting that a Glastonbury appearance for Fleetwood Mac is almost certainly out of the question.

British fans of the band are currently awaiting the announcement of the band’s UK tour dates, which are expected to be announced in the near future. We expect there will some large-scale appearances from the band - and they could even be lined-up as one of the Hyde Park or Olympic Park event headliners. We’ll have to hold tight for some official announcements.

Fleetwood Mac: 'We'd like to play Glastonbury 2014'
Band turn down 2013 date

Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac has spoken of the moment the band turned down the chance to play Glastonbury Festival 2013.
.
Talking to BBC Radio 2's Jo Whiley, the 65-year-old drummer and founding member of Fleetwood Mac, said: "We were asked to do Glastonbury. In fact my sister Sally, my eldest sister - one of her best friends lives right on the property line of the family that runs [the festival], it's their land, and they asked my sister to get hold of me, and I got hold of them. They said, 'We want you to headline the festival this year.' We're not doing it.

"It was great to be asked, then we found out if we do that we won't get to play at all of the other places, because people migrate to one place.

"And therefore our visitation to other countries was going to be affected by what was this fantastic, one off show.

"So we decided it wasn't, this year, a good idea to do that because we wanna feel like we've gone to a lot of places. That's why we didn't, but we were greatly honoured to be asked to headline that show, and I hope that we do.

"Next year we have said that we'd really like to do it if they still want us. They might want someone else.. 'Nah, you snooze you lose!'"

Fleetwood also said he started the rumours himself: "That was a true rumour that I started. My sister phoned me up and said, 'Will you phone these people up?' which were the real people. But the cut off point [to say yes] was a few months back."

Glastonbury 2014 Headliners Are First-Timers, Fleetwood Mac, Pearl Jam, Depeche Mode?

by Michael West | 04 September 2013

Who will headline Glastonbury 2014? We think we have an idea.

Glastonbury Festival boss Michael Eavis has revealed that he has more or less signed the headliners for 2014, teasing that neither act has played the historical music gathering in the past.

In an interview with NME, Eavis explained, "Next year's headliners are more or less in place. They're three bands who haven't played Glastonbury, and that's important." Though the article sent the internet into frenzy with speculation over Eavis's dream headliners Prince and Madonna, the emphasis on the word 'band' appears to suggest the acts will be more conventional four or five-pieces, perhaps in the rock genre.

Of course, both acts travel with accomplished bands - Prince particularly - though Eavis's comments leaves those possibilities in doubt - for this writer at least.

Of course, the announcement also kills off any hopes that David Bowie will make his live comeback, having performed at the festival twice before.

"There aren't many bands left who haven't played the festival, and before we run out I'd like to persuade the ones on my wish list to come down," Eavis continued in the interview, "I think I've managed that with these three."

Eavis is known for his shrewd PR exercises, particularly in the lead up to ticket releases, though let's take a minute to mull over the possibilities.

Earlier this year, the festival-guru site eFestivals posted a report suggesting Elbow, Fleetwood Mac and Depeche Mode were the three bands that Eavis had targeted for Glastonbury 2014. It read:

"Whether these two acts will headline Glastonbury 2014 we cannot tell you with any certainty, because our understanding is that nothing has been contracted as yet and things often change in the months that pass between a loose verbal agreement and signed contracts (normally in the Autumn) . but we're about as certain as we ever get that Elbow, Fleetwood Mac, and Depeche Mode are the three bands Michael Eavis was referring to many months ago when he said he had the 2014 headliners sorted."

Having played Glastonbury a couple of times, Elbow appear to be out of the running, though Fleetwood Mac and the returning Depeche Mode now seem increasingly likely to be named headliners for 2014. The latter turned down a slot at the festival in 2009 with keyboardist Andrew Fletcher telling The Daily Star: "Glasto would be fun but the line-up didn't quite work for us.Getting the right bill is important." Eavis eventually plumped for Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen and Blur in what remains one of the defining years in the festival's history.

Fleetwood Mac were widely speculated to headline Glastonbury in 2013, though ruled themselves out by booking at U.S. tour that clashed with the Saturday and Sunday of the festival. The legendary reunited rockers are known to be on Michael Eavis's radar and singer Stevie Nicks publically stated her desire to play Glastonbury having watching Beyonce's triumphant headlining slot from her London hotel room in 2011.

Another slightly left field choice would be Pearl Jam. The U.S. rockers have played many a festival, though whether they fit with the Glastonbury aesthetic remains to be seen. Still, with their new album Lightning Bolt due on October 15 and the possibility of a lengthy world tour to follow, Eddie Vedder and company could finish things off nicely in a Somerset farm next June.

that would be a nice lineup, as far as i'm concerned :). happily seeing all these bands this fall, separately!

how about NIN? they've been doing tons of festivals now, followed by a regular tour. but i guess if Pearl Jam doesn't really fit, can't imagine NIN would any better?

I honestly don't think any of them realise the potential of playing Glastonbury. I also don't get the notion that perhaps if they played Glastonbury this year they couldn't of done a UK tour around it.

Mac for glastonbury 2014? More New songs online 2013

According to the Irish Mirrror :

Christine McVie to make a return.. and it’s no rumour
19 Sep 2013 22:00

Fleetwood Mac fans set for treat as former key band member gets ready to make Dublin appearance
Sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll! If ever there was a band that followed that mantra to the letter it was Fleetwood Mac.

The long-lasting British- American group may be remembered for such hits as The Chain, Little Lies and Go Your Own Way, but in terms of booze and drug-bingeing, partnerswapping and back-stabbing drama, it makes the Rolling Stones look like a church choir.

This year marks 35 years since the release of the band’s masterpiece ‘Rumours’ that would go on to become one of the most successful records in history selling over 40 million worldwide.

The rock icons are currently on a critically acclaimed world tour that reaches Dublin for two sold-out shows on Friday and Saturday night.

The band have been rehearsing in the capital and spotted in the five-star Four Seasons hotel on Wednesday night.

If that wasn’t exciting enough, frontwoman Stevie Nicks has revealed that former key member Christine McVie, who left the band over 14 years ago,

has been in Dublin rehearsing with the band.

“She’s coming to do two nights (in London) and probably do ‘Don’t Stop’. I’m not sure, but she’s coming to Dublin to rehearse whatever song she’s going to do. We never wanted her to leave, so for us it’s amazing that she is going to come,” Nicks said.
McVie won’t accompany the tour beyond London, apparently down to her fear of flying.

British drummer Mick Fleetwood, the only original member in the present line up, revealed earlier this year that there is a new Fleetwood Mac album in the pipeline and that new songs will be released online in the coming months.

Fleetwood Mac’s 46-year dark history is the stuff of legend but t begins long before the destruction of love affairs that is chronicled in painful detail on Rumours.

Set lists from the US leg of the tour show the band playing the lion’s share of Rumours with smatterings from Tusk, Fleetwood Mac and only one, Big Love, from their 1987 album Tango in the Night.

Fans disappointed that they didn’t snap up a ticket to see the Mac in Dublin may get a second chance to see them live as they have said they would like to be included on the Glastonbury 2014 bill.

Speaking to music site Gigwise, Fleetwood explained that although last year’s rumoured festival slots came to nothing due to touring commitments, next year could be a different matter.

“Hopefully Glastonbury will ask us again,” he said, “although they’ve probably got fed up of asking us!”

Glastonbury festival 2014: ticket sale details announced

Regular tickets will go on sale from 6 October, with coach package deals available three days earlier

This year's festival mud may still be clinging to some of your belongings, but it's already time to start thinking about Glastonbury 2014. Tickets for next year's festival, which will take place on 25-29 June, will go on sale on Sunday 6 October at 9am, costing £210 plus a £5 booking fee – although a £50 deposit is all that's needed to secure a ticket before paying the bill in April.

There's good news for those who want to travel by coach: this year, coach packages will be available three days before the main ticket sale, from 6pm on Thursday 3 October. The aim is to "reward green travellers", according to a festival spokesperson.

Although no acts have been announced yet, organiser Michael Eavis has said the three headline acts are already lined up. Rumours of potential headliners include David Bowie, Fleetwood Mac, Daft Punk, Foo Fighters, Elbow, Kanye West, Oasis and Adele.

The past summer's festival saw Arctic Monkeys, Rolling Stones and Mumford & Sons headline, with Eavis declaring the lineup "hard to beat".

Festivalgoers will have to register on the Glastonbury website before buying tickets, with a maximum purchase limit of six each per transaction, both for standard and coach-plus-ticket packages. Those interested in buying Glastonbury tickets should head online to glastonbury.seetickets.com, or call 0844 412 4635 from a UK phone (for international callers +44 1159 934 183). For more information, visit the Glastonbury 2014 ticket information page here. The Guardian is the official media partner of Glastonbury festival.

This is a pipedream, but if I had my way, things would go like this. Assuming they headline Glastonbury

1. Christine announces that she rejoins the band and would record a new album with them.
2. The four-piece finishes the tour, and Christine joins them for Vegas.
3. They then work on a new album between January and May (see, this is a pipe dream )
4. They release said album and use the Glastonbury gig as their major vehicle.
5. Album sells like hotcakes, then they do a limited engagement of select cities and release a live DVD.

Kaching, kaching, kaching!

Paddy Power suspends Fleetwood Mac Glastonbury betting
September 24, 2013 • Festivals & Events, Glastonbury, News

UK online bookmakers Paddy Power have confirmed they have stopped taking bets on rock band Fleetwood Mac to headline next year’s Glastonbury Festival.

Rumours have been rife, even before this year’s event, of the group’s reformation taking them to the infamous Pyramid Stage. With organiser Michael Eavis recently announcing that next year’s headliners have already been confirmed, fans went into overdrive trying to find out who.

More as we hear it….

Betting suspended on Fleetwood Mac playing Glastonbury as tickets sell out

Sunday 6 Oct 2013 1:58 pm Metro.co.uk

http://metro.co.uk/2013/10/06/bettin...l-out-4135925/

Bookies have suspended betting on Fleetwood Mac being named Glastonbury 2014′s headline act in the wake of the festival’s record ticket sales.

According to Ladbrokes the veteran rockers are now the hot favourites to be the main attraction on the Pyramid Stage next year, with odds of just 1-4 on them topping the bill.

And the odds put them way ahead of second favourites Daft Punk, who are currently 6-4 to make an appearance at Worthy Farm.

Other acts believed to be in the running are Depeche Mode at 6-4 and David Bowie at 3-1, followed by Elbow and Oasis who are currently neck and neck at 4-1.

Prince, Kasabian and Arcade FIre are also up among the main contenders, according to Ladbrokes – although more ambitious punters might prefer a wager on Susan Boyle who is currently a 100-1 outsider to headline.

Ladbrokes also appear confident of Glastonbury continuing to entertain festival-goers for some years to come – offering odds of 2-1 on the event continuing until at least the year 2020.

‘It looks like those lucky enough to get a ticket for Glastonbury 2014 will be watching Fleetwood Mac,’ said spokesperson Alex Donohue.

‘The good news for those who missed out is that the odds suggest the festival will run for years to come.’

Organiser Michael Eavis recently revealed that the headline acts for 2014 were ‘more or less in place’, hinting that they were Glastonbury newcomers.

‘They’re three bands who haven’t played Glastonbury – and that’s important,’ he said.

‘There aren’t many bands left who haven’t played the festival, and before we run out I’d like to persuade the ones on my wish list to come down.’

Tickets for next year’s festival, which will take place from June 25-29, sold out in just one hour and 27 minutes when they went on sale on Sunday morning.

The line-up for the 2014 event will be announced in due course.

I kept hitting the F5 button on the registration-page fot over an hour....didn't pass through :-)

Alas, be seeing them tonight, on wednesday and in two weeks once again, but...hey...the Pyramid-stage on Glasto !

charnicks88 10-09-2013 09:46 AM

I'm there already! I'll chain myself to the barrier of the Pyramid the whole day just to be at the front for this. I just PRAY it happens! It has to! Although when we asked Mick about it at the M&G (just a week after his comments at the IYD premiere) he seemed more negative about it. What I did think was hilarious was that he got his manager over and said 'these girls want to talk to you about glastonbury'. Their manager kind of turned it down saying they can make more money out of arena tours. I said NO WAY! At Glastonbury you would be appealing to those who are already fans and would attract young people or people who may never have listened to FM before. Not to mention the fact the performance would be broadcast across the entire UK and globally! What more do you need?! Their record sales would soar and their fan base would increase massively. Mick talked about how FM could have been bigger back in the day but they didn't have the knowledge of how to do it (at the m&g) Well, now is your chance. I told the manager to think it over and do some research.

Rant over! HA! :)

From a Contact Music article about Arcade Fire, December 22, 2013

http://www.contactmusic.com/article/...y-2014_4005844

At that time, the one band most people had tipped Fleetwood Mac for a headlining slot at next years festival, and they still remain one of the favourites to headline the main stage next year alongside AF. Depeche Mode, Pearl Jam, Kanye West, Prince and Daft Punk are also being hotly tipped to perform at the festival next year, but for now the Eavis's are staying quiet.

Eff those guys! PJ not as much as the others, KW WAY, WAY, WAY, WAY more than the others. Prince would be okay.

louielouie2000 12-23-2013 10:41 AM

At this point, Fleetwood Mac playing Glastonbury this year seems entirely logical. It would be the perfect place to debut Christine's full return: in her home country, at probably the hottest music festival in the world (at the moment).

Fleetwood Mac Will NOT play Glastonbury 2014

Organiser Michael Eavis says he hopes the band will play the festival in 2015.

December 26th, 2013 Paul Tamburro

Glastonbury 2014 organiser Michael Eavis has denied that the band will headline next year's festival, despite rumours that they were set to take to the Pyramid Stage at some point during the weekend-long event.

Speaking to The Guardian, Eavis said that although Fleetwood Mac were not penned in for a performance at the festival in 2014, he still hoped that he could secure a performance from them in the future, saying: "We're hoping to get them for 2015, but not next year."

Thus far the only confirmed headliner for the festival is Arcade Fire, who will be playing a set on the Pyramid Stage on the Friday night. Lily Allen has also said she will be performing.

Hmm, I bet 2015 will be the year Fleetwood Mac returns with Christine. 2015 marks the 40th anniversary of the white Fleetwood Mac album, and the Rumours incarnation of the band. Let's hope they spend 2014 in the recording studio so they'll have a new album to herald the triumphant return of Christine! :p

Macfanforever 12-26-2013 02:11 PM

Thanks for the update .Now I guess Stevie probably her mini tour to promote her DVD.Lindsey will do some of his own shows.John will have some time to recover.Mick will be taking care of things at his restaurant and Christine has time to think it over if she wants to get back into touring with her band mates again.

SteveMacD 12-27-2013 02:57 AM

Not playing a festival in 2014 does not necessarily mean there won't be a 2014 tour. If Fleetwood Mac does not tour, I hope Mick, John, Christine, and Rick Vito do a blues quartet tour (the Fleetwood-McVie BluesBand).

I thought one of FM members said they will tour again Europe/UK in 2014.I cant recall who said it but I remember reading it on here in the Rumours forum.

shackin'up 12-27-2013 01:28 PM

They are going to record an album with Chris' material and Lindsey's (with J&M) as a base, Stevie writes three or four new macsongs while Lindsey prepares the tracks with his neighbour. In march april june juli they finish it and then embark on a huge final worldtour with Christine on board. That can last until someone falls over.

Still not a fan of the whole "final tour" concept, and I don't think they're too crazy about that idea, either.

I know, me neither, but last tour showde that there still is a big interest. But that will not last forever on this scale. I spoken a lot of parent- young adults visitors that came to the concerts in Amsterdam because they felt it was their last chance to see them. 34000 concerttickets sold in Amsterdam, that never happened before in the Netherlands for FM.

Macfanforever 12-27-2013 05:58 PM

The Eagles pulled that final tour bit years ago and they just toured last summer .Garth Brooks retired years ago .Now years later he is getting back in swing of it.

Alabama probably come out of retirement and hit the road soon.

I think FM wont pack it in yet .
