Apart from FM who are your 10 favorite bands?

Dont know if this post is ok here, but im a newbie.
So apart from fleetwood mac (obviously you like them otherwise you wouldnt be here!) who are your 10 favorite bands?
Heres mine:

1. Pink floyd
2. Guns n' Roses (old and new)
3. Led Zeppelin
4. Tool
5. The Smiths
6. Nine inch Nails
7. Audioslave
8. Robert Plant
9. The Replacements
10. Rage against the machine

David 01-30-2003 01:50 PM

I don't think I could think of ten favorite rock bands. I sort of dislike rock.

On top of my list is a band called the Beatles. They were pretty good. Then Fleetwood Mac. They were all right.

Umm.....oh, I also like this guy named Van Morrison. He's kind of interesting.

Umm....can't......really.....think......of.......others......

Oh, yes---Jellyfish!

chiliD 01-30-2003 01:56 PM

Actually, this should be in Chit Chat...

Doesn't it stand to reason that you could've included Robert Plant with Led Zeppelin and left a slot for another artist??

Anyway...mine are, really, in no particular order...including their solo works in with their band...so when I say "Beatles", that's individually AND collectively...or in the case of Eric Clapton, that would include the groups he was a member of Cream, Blind Faith, Yardbirds and Derek & The Dominoes, too...oh, and only considering artists in the rock genre:

Beatles
Rolling Stones
Eric Clapton
ZZ Top
Allman Bros Band
Little Feat
Jimi Hendrix
Bonnie Raitt
Santana
Bob Marely & The Wailers

But, other than the first five, the rest could change on a whim.

Just so you know, yeah this kinda stuff goes under the "chit chat" section. :)

As long as I'm here I'll rattle some off the top of my head. Some of these bands/artists may not be classed as "rock" as such but anyways, after FM or course comes...

1. Manfred Mann's Earth Band
2. The velvet underground
3. Pink Floyd
4. Tangerine dream
5. Led Zeppelin
6. Sandy Denny
7. Kirsty Maccoll
8. Heart
9. Jefferson airplane/starship
10. Bonnie Raitt

Faves as of today, could change at any time, in no particular order, etc. :)

This should really be in the Chit Chat forum, but anyway, in no particular order:
Radiohead
Idlewild
Supergrass
U2
Feeder
Coldplay
The Charlatans

Can't think of anymore, atm.

joe68 01-30-2003 02:55 PM

Natalie Merchant
David Bowie
Peter Gabriel
Coldplay
Tom Petty
Mick Jagger (his last solo album was brilliant!)
Duncan Shiek
Carly Simon
Sarah Maclachlan
Joan Osbourne

and Toni Childs (back in the day...)

estranged4life 01-30-2003 03:02 PM

Hmmm...

10.King Diamond
9.Slayer
8.Led Zeppelin
7.U2

SaraRhiannon 01-30-2003 03:55 PM

In no particular order:
Steely Dan, Heart, Better Than Ezra, Belly, Jefferson Airplane/Starship, Concrete Blonde, Genesis, Van Halen, 10,000 Maniacs, & The Commodores

FiercestCalmSea 01-30-2003 04:46 PM

Red Hot Chili Peppers
Led Zep
Rolling Stones
Pink Floyd

becca 01-30-2003 04:54 PM

Groups only: Stereolab, Yes, The Hollies, Clannad, The Velvet Underground, The Police, Temptations, Ink Spots, Television.

Groups I relate to FM: Eagles, Chicken Shack, Bluesbreakers, Cream, Yardbirds, Small Faces, Firefall, Gentle Giant, America, Traffic.

jmn3 01-30-2003 06:44 PM

In no particular order:

The Rolling Stones (Someone told me today they love classic rock, but hate the Stones....I didn't even think that statement was possible? The Stones ROCK..even at 60!)
Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band
The Police
Bon Jovi
Aerosmith
The Beatles (I'll include in here all solo efforts by the members, as well as Wings)
Eric Clapton (including his work in the various bands he's been in)
The Who
U2
Nelly*

*Okay, okay, the last one doesn't fit AT ALL....but I love Nelly! He's one of the very few rap artists I ever listen to.

I'll also mention in here how I am only 22 years old, and most of the bands/artists I listed (all of them, except for two) were around before I was born. I was just talking to someone at my internship today about kids my age and our music preference. We really have a bunch of crap now, and it seems that kids that really are into music, are into classic rock. Just a strange observation...considering our parents and grandparents had incredibly different ideas about what good music was.

(1) Fleetwood Mac is my favorite band , of course, and all their solo efforts too, but other than that:

(7) Bob Dylan

(8) Jefferson Airplane

(9) The Grateful Dead

REM
Sister Hazel
Sheryl Crow
Alanis Morissette
Eric Clapton
Heart
Queen

Hey, what's wrong with DD? LOL I like their stuff! BTW, I like Roxette too, I have their greatest hits CD.

Hmm...let's see YOUR list..LOL

Queen - AWESOME...I have the greatest hits set.
BeeGees - AWESOME...the only good thing about Sat. Night Fever, IMO
Genesis - AWESOME...I have Phil's greatest hits...which includes Genesis songs...
Dire Straits - AWESOME...Mark's voice is nothing to sneeze at, but his guitar work is PHA-NOMINAL!
Radiohead - I don't listen to/own their CD's.
Simon & Garfunkel - AWESOME...I love Art's voice.
Doobie Bros - I don't own their CD's, but I know some of their songs, and Michael McDonald has a cool voice!
ABBA - I'm not a fan, but they are okay...my dad likes em!
Simply Red - I only know like one or two of their songs....but cool!
Roxette - I own their greatest hits CD.

DARNIT....can't find anything crappy in your list to make fun of!

becca 01-31-2003 02:44 AM

This is weird. I really like Duran Duran a lot but the opposite is true of Roxette, I kind of hate them fiercely. :^)

Nobody seems to have mentioned Peter Green's Splinter Group or John McVie's Gotta band. Hmmm. Or did I not read carefully.

LOL. I would probably say that as well, and doing a top 10 is really hard, partly because other than FM and a few other bands, I don't really listen to much other music.(althouhg, saying that, I listen to almost anything)

Cristian 01-31-2003 02:26 PM

Nothing, I just don't "diggest" it. I mean, you never "diggest" Radiohead music easily, but with OK Computer and the previous albums I could "diggest" them and taste them. Kid-A and post Kid-A stuff I can't diggest it.

JMHO.

I do see your point, I do find post-Kid A very hard to listen to, and you're right, the other albums were so much easier to 'digest'.
I just hope that the next album, is just as easy to digest as everything before Kid A.

Mike B 01-31-2003 06:29 PM

Hmm...there is no band (or single performer) that I'm as obsessive about or interested in as Fleetwood Mac. My top 3 come close, as far as tracking down bootlegs and getting excited about tours, but most of my music time really is devoted to FM.

1) Sheryl Crow
2) Train
3) U2
4) The Lemonheads
5) Toad the Wet Sprocket
6) Gin Blossoms
7) Chris Isaak
8) Smashing Pumpkins
9) Matchbox Twenty
10) The Police

Can you tell I'm stuck in an early/mid-ninties music kick?
