Stevie's social media tribute to Christine... (RIP)

I'm curious what everyone will think of Stevie's message. It's not totally self absorbed but sometimes her writing style is so odd (all the ellipses, dashes and commas used incorrectly.) Just my 2 cents!

It's odd but whenever she posts something, it ends up being odd. I do believe she cared about Christine so it's hard for me to criticize her. I think she had good intentions, but it feels like she speaks in riddles and images or something. She still reminds of a crazy aunt that relatives hide away in the attack.

She turns everything into being about her.

She has that "whatever happened to Baby Jane" quality.

I agree, I believe she truly cared for Christine so I don't want to be too harsh. I just wish she'd have someone proof it, or if she'd just spend more time on it so that it might come across more effectively.

What does it mean "She was told to wait"? Chris' family told her to wait? It's so so sad if they knew she was dying over the weekend.

Chris probably had an advanced health directive in place to stop Stevie visiting her bedside. The fear of all that endless prattle without being able to waltz out of the room.

Chris was so low-drama; I'm glad she went on her terms, without a circus.

I don't mind. This is not the time to look for who agrees or who criticizes the messages. I don't think Christine would have liked to read comments about condolences from her friends.

Her family posted they are at a extremely painful time. Let's just remember how wonderful Christine McVie was. My two cents.

Of course everyone is entitled to feel however they like about Stevie, but I wish for just a day we could pause the bashing.

Yes, and also that reciprocal posts are instead posts of condolences for Christine and her loved ones.

OMG, you win.

I would imagine Lindsey has the same clause in his. His makeup person should paint a smirk on his face, when his time comes. You know, so when she shows up, rambling on about herself, her last memory of him will be him smirking at her.

I wonder if Chris was getting ready to go into some type of palleative care and that was why Stevie was told to wait. But Chris must have passed before that. I was in Pennsylvania and my mom was in Virginia and I was told the same thing when she came to her final days. So it makes me wonder if she had cancer, but that is just a guess on my part.

I've wondered the same. Her inability to play keys, and wasn't she having back pain when they last toured? I wonder if she'd been sick for some time? Although I can't imagine wanting to tour if I was terminally ill. I wouldn't.

SteveMacD 11-30-2022 10:39 PM

If we're all upset about Christine's passing, I can't imagine how Stevie feels. Her note came off as someone who's distraught, but trying to keep it together, TBH.

Well, it’s not as Stevie-centric as I thought it would be, so I guess there’s that. Slightly confused about her posting the HAIM song instead of, say, one of her own songs or poems, but perhaps it really spoke to her. 🤷🏻*♀️ I always got the feeling that she genuinely loved Christine so I imagine she’s grieving pretty hard right now. For that I’ll cut her some slack.

She probably is feeling it hard. Christine said she hasn't been speaking to Stevie since the last tour ended.

OMG. I don’t want to criticize how a person mourns….but thank you for the LOL moment.

On a serious note…. I believe Christine’s passing is yet another reminder of Stevie’s own mortality.

I’m sure all the members of the Mac are thinking “who’s next?”

Linds left a very cryptic post in his instagram the day before Chris passed…which made people wonder if he was ok…. it makes more sense now….although I can’t figure out what the “September” part means

“And the days dwindle down
To a precious few . . .
September, November . . .
And these few precious days”

The words are from The September song, looking back in a lyrical sense on the latter part of your life…..from September to December

Very apt at the moment..

OMG people. Stevie's response was very touching. I love how personal it is. Its not typed words on the twitter machine but her own written words. Its not fair to criticize her for grief because of her past actions. She wanted to say those words she would have told her. When my mother died the funeral home director had a great idea. He told us that if we wanted a private message write a letter and before the casket is closed, slip the letter under the mattress. I found it very therapeutic that my letter to my mom would be with her forever. Stevie also had blunt honesty in her response how she did not know anything was wrong before it was too late. Chris and Stevie had such a unique relationship. Yes it was strained and non existent in the mid 80s but their dynamic would not work in another band. Stevie has said this herself. Chris was playing hard with the boys for years. Bringing a very attractive, delicate female singer to the front of the stage who does not play an instrument would have caused friction with anyone else except Chris. Chris was too strong a person to feel insecure about that.. I think Chris said it best that they were polar opposites in every why which is why they clicked.

Stevie has been doing tributes to Prince and Tom for years in her solo acts and with the Mac. This upcoming stadium tour, will she do a tribute to Chris?

Thank you, appreciate that detail. I did not know they were lyrics. Definitely makes sense.

Stevie is Stevie. Some of her quotes are questionable like my best friend when Chris said they hadn't talked since the tour. And at the end, "don't forget me". She can't help herself. But we know she is just gutted by this. I loved that she hand wrote her tribute and the Haim song reference didn't bother me. I just feel so sad for all of us that loved her and I'm so happy I got to see her live and sing with her beautiful voice and magical songs

I looked up the definition of scoliosis and learned it mostly occurs in teenagers. Then it said this: While scoliosis can occur in people with conditions such as cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy, the cause of most childhood scoliosis is unknown.

So perhaps Christine had an underlying medical condition we don't know about.

Written in 1938. Frank Sinatra recorded it, and I think Porter Waggoner did, too. Lindsey did on Law and Order.

Thank you for sharing that about your mother

I think a tribute to Christine would be wonderful, but I can’t imagine what it would be. Stevie got raked over the coals for singing Say You Love Me on tour. Maybe All Over Again, the song she sang with Christine on the last FM tour? Brown Eyes is a beautiful, haunting song, but I don’t know if Stevie could pull that one off.

I read that she wrote Think About It and Say You Will for Christine… maybe one of those songs? Say You Will sang as a ballad would be a fitting tribute, lyrically. Maybe the HAIM song she quoted? Or maybe she would just dedicate a song to her. But performing a song would be beautiful.

Jondalar 12-01-2022 02:30 PM

Chiristine had scoliosis. That is why she was in a lot pain all the time with her back. I wonder if she caught covid, becuase they say it was rapid illness.

So, the more I thought about Stevie's unique tribute to Christine, the more I think Christine knew Stevie so well, she would expect and understand a tribute like this and be glad for it. She knows how Stevie is and obviously likes her.

BigAl84 12-01-2022 03:23 PM

This is pure speculation. Often times severe back pain can be a symptom of undiagnosed pancreatic cancer. It's possible that she though she was having back pain due to her known scoliosis and later found out it was cancer.

I can much more easily imagine “Don’t Stop” being an encore on the Billy Joel tour, now.

I could see that. That is often the case. Something happened really fast and then it was time. So fast that it was kept private from everyone until the end was near.
My uncle had pancreatic cancer and when he was diagnosed they gave him 4 months to live. He lived 3. But its all speculation and reading the tea leaves. If it was a health scare that was recoverable people like Stevie or others would have known. When you dont have much time, you tend to keep everything private so there is not so much grief and drama around you. Its very sad but we must celebrate her incredible life and the joy she brought to the world. Living to 79 is really good. Just think she was in her mid 70s touring with the band. Thats amazing. She was also singing with no autotune. She carried on. She overcame her anxiety and fear of flying to come back in her 70s is unheard of. People in their 20s can barely change let alone a very rich woman that has everything she needs. She loved playing and performing and we are truly blessed.

SteveMacD 12-01-2022 05:49 PM

I lost an aunt to pancreatic cancer. They gave her six months, she lasted less than a week.

You and jmn3 have to be right, and it makes total sense. One of Christine’s best known songs; Stevie’s done it live with her solo band before; Billy Joel would be a natural for this song; and the lyrics really exemplify the spirit of Christine. And what better way to pay tribute to someone then with such a joyous song? I don’t care for the song, it’s like a handful of others that I’ve overexposed myself to, but I cant imagine hearing it now and not appreciating more than ever.

I could see Stevie doing Storms as a dedication to Chris.

Chris was the blue calm sea.
Now they are frail.

"So I try to say goodbye, my friend."

HomerMcvie 12-01-2022 06:58 PM

On the pancreatic flip side, they gave my mom 3-4 months, and she lived two years with it. And it was only ugly the last couple of weeks.

UnwindedDreams 12-01-2022 07:09 PM

I have a feeling the Stevie shows with Billy Joel were booked because Fleetwood Mac decided not to play live anymore months ago. These Billy concerts could have been a Fleetwood Mac and Billy Joel tour or even FM playing stadiums alone with a smaller opening act like Chicago. Mick had said FM's future was huge festivals and stadium shows and after almost 4 years since an FM tour, 2023 would've been perfect.

It will be interesting to see what Stevie chooses as a song for Christine in her shows next year.
