Stevie, Lindsey or Christine?

who is your favorite Rumours-era singer/songwriter?

i may be wrong, but i have a feeling that most people on these boards have a clear preference for one or the other singer/songwriter, so this will be a very easy decision.

for people who are purely FM fans and love them all together and equally, or 2 of them equally (BN fans?), i understand this may be really hard, but please try to still pick just one...

from reading various forums here, my estimate would be there are maybe 5-10 Christine fans, ~20 Lindsey fans, and probably way more than 30-40 Stevie fans that are active at least occasionally... but i might be completely off.

Yeah, I always feel like Steve E. fans start these polls, so that she can win...

But WE know who the heart of FM is...;)

Love all three together.. but I miss and love Christine..

thanks to both of you for playing! :)

i was looking at the numbers of people voting in MSB's polls here, people voting in the SN forum poll about what her next step will be (~80 i think?), plus comparing 49 people voting on lindsey's tusk songs so far, vs the maximum number of people voting in any recently created poll in lindsey forum (41)... and was just curious. so figure i should ask!

SteveMacD 03-08-2012 08:14 PM

I did a poll about 12-13 years ago to decide the favorite all-time member of Fleetwood Mac. John McVie won!

for some reason, that doesn't surprise me!

there may have been even the same poll as this one some time in the last number of years? but membership seems to be changing a lot so thought it would be interesting to find out current state. although not sure how many people from stevie forum are reading the rumours one...

I've been here a long time, and I think the board is more Steve E. oriented than ever...

1) I just noticed that Americans say orientated differently to Brits. Wow. I've never said oriented in my life.
2) Calm down and come back to the dark side. These chants won't chant themselves!

Really? Doesn't seem that way to me.

Regarding my favorite? That's kinda complex. Christine is probably the highest quality of the group, and Lindsey is probably the most talented in the technical sense. Stevie is without a doubt the weakest link, the most erratic & irregular, yet she'll always be my emotional fav of the lot.

bluefox4000 03-08-2012 08:46 PM

Do you even have to ask me???? It's Lindsey. I remember seeing the Dance and at first not being that impressed. But when Lindsey kicked into ISA, that was it. I just clicked with him. I gradually came to appreciate the entire band.....but the catalyst was always Lindsey. He was always nice to look at too.

HejiraNYC 03-08-2012 08:56 PM

Oh, why do you do this to yourself? It's obvious where this is headed. Chiffon for the win.

Artemis 03-08-2012 08:59 PM

Far and away, Stevie Nicks. She doesn't have the best voice in the band, or the most technical knowledge, but that's part of her charm.

On Ice 03-08-2012 09:01 PM

All three have had their ups and downs, Christine without a doubt being the most consistent, but not always the most interesting. Lindsey, is just pure, raw talent and the band's main artistic presence. Stevie, though gets my vote simply for being so unique, the largest (vastly untapped) material catalogue and when her voice was hot, she couldn't be beat. She has also proven to be the most sustainable although inconsistent, presence.

I like all three of them for various reasons -- that's why Fleetwood Mac is so unique and appealing.

I didn't officially vote. These polls are becoming rather superfluous, aren't they? It's evident in the extremely low voting numbers. People are getting tired of them because of the overload.

I prefer to have a dialogue - it's more productive and less mindless.
Word to the poll-addictive posters: just say no!

Someone should make a poll listing all the active Ledgies and the rest of us could guess next to their name which singer they like the best. It would be based on how well we know each other's tastes. For example, before I even looked at the results I knew Butter Cookie was gonna vote for Christine.

Agree 100%. In terms of songwriters-singers, that's the reason I love Fleetwood Mac.
There are times I love to listen Stevie songs, then there are Lindsey periods, or Christine months.. but actually it's the combination that I love. That's why my favorite band is not a one singer band.

And yes I miss Christine, Fleetwood Mac is not the same without her.

interesting opinion. while i personally may agree with your dialogue preference, polls provide some insights (and numbers!) dialogue doesn't necessarily. also in many instances a poll serves as a dialogue starter - as it has already here. however some people do not feel the need to express their opinions in a dialogue form, for whatever reason, but still like to vote in polls. it's nice to have their opinions captured too.

that's a good point, and i can tell you right now that even though penguinhead and villavic chose not to vote in the poll if they absolutely had to choose their votes would go for SN and CM, respectively (imo ). and i don't think anybody can doubt who is my or yours favorite. but there are many members who are not as loud as us; why not hear them in the form of poll then?

mezzoforte 03-09-2012 12:50 AM

I think it's interesting how many Stevie fans feel the need to acknowledge a perceived lack of technical skill: "She's my favorite, but obviously the weakest link," "I love her, but she's wildly inconsistent." It reminds my of the favorite songwriters thread a few months ago, when Stevie was almost never mentioned without a caveat.

Chiffonheads may be the loudest and most active group here, but we're also strangely skeptical of our queen. No need to be ashamed of Stevie's place in our wild hearts! Consider her material within Fleetwood Mac 1975-83, and try to tell me she's a weak link.

Personally, I'm like 50% Stevie, 40% Chris, 10% Lindsey.

I completely relate and agree with you on this. The Mac is my favorite all time band. I also like all three of them in their solo endevers. I also am proud to say that Ms. Nicks is my musical obsession. I am completely inspired by her poetry and songwriting. I love her passionate stage:thumbsup: performances both now and in her hayday. I miss the three voices that were made for each other and the rhythmn section that makes The Mac into the the best most unique band in the history of 70's era Rock-N-Rolla.

nah, not good enough... taking the kiss for myself now (memory lapses are beautiful thing )

have to add after reading posts from many nice people here expressing their love for all 3 songwriters... although i like some of the songs from the girls, and some of the 3-part harmonies are just gorgeous, i really only have love for LB.:sorry: without him i would not be interested in FM (well, if you disregard PG period), or either one of the girls.

Fair enough;) Heck, we may as well all let our fangirliest memories fly free! I know I will maintain it was for me always!

Objectively, I think they're all wonderful songwriters. It just comes down to personal taste. Nothing wrong with having favorites! And while I tend not to connect with Lindsey's material within the Mac so much as I do with Stevie's and Christine's, he blew me away live. I'm grateful to all of them for their roles within Fleetwood Mac.

Of course I love Stevie with every chiffon ounce of my body, but I'll always absolutely love Christine. When considering purely Fleetwood Mac songs, Christine knocks it out of the park as my favorite. But the combination of Stevie's solo and Mac career makes up my favorite artist of all time, and that will never change. I don't really want to vote, because come to think of it I love Lindsey's songs so much I truly consider him my favorite in FM sometimes as well

Lindsey, of course. I would consider Christine second even though I don't like most of her music. There's no denying that her songs are well written; just so damn slushy that I can barely cope with them.

I always say the same thing. I for one love everything she does. Sure I like some things more than others. However, taken as a whole I am completely satisfied with her output. This reminds me of my cooking skills. I never measure, the kitchen is always a disaster when I am done, I'm usually all over the place,: but the finished product is always amazing:lol:

Then who has the best voice? Not Lindsey for sure. Christine has a really different vocal style, but i think that at the end of the day, Stevie's the best vocalist, though it's pretty amazing to have three good singers in one band.

You obviously love Lindsey but how can you say Christine's the second if you don't like her songs and your user name is Silver Springs? :p

I'm NOT ashamed to say that Stevie's my favorite. I might slighty prefer Lindsey's solo work in terms of quality, as a whole, but, you know, Bella Donna (+ In your Dreams) > All of Lindsey's albums to me. I'm not familiar with Christine's solo work but i really have to give it a try. Oddly, i always prefered Christine with other configurations of Fleetwood Mac than with the Rumours era members.

Because I don't have to like the music to appreciate her talent. And Silver Springs, just because it's my favourite Fleetwood Mac song, doesn't quite propel Stevie into the heights enough for me to put her in second place. Because there's too many of her songs that make me cringe lyrically. Christine's make me cringe because of the slushy music, but the lyrics I can enjoy.

CADreaming 03-09-2012 07:31 AM

Can't choose one over the other. I like all of their work for different reasons.

I actually understood your point here. Some Stevie's lyrics make me cringe too. But, since we're voting for our favorite, i choosed what i personally like over what i objectively know is excellent.
I know Lindsey's the best (since he somehow manages to amaze and touch me at the same time), but Stevie just touches me more, and that's why i love her more. I get that you both appreciate objectively Lindsey's music, and also just love him, but you very cerebraly judge your second favorite...which is not bad, since Stevie's or Chris' music don't touch you thaaaat much. Anyway i get you but i wanted to underline the different points of view of what "favorite" might or might not be. :)
