Talked to Lindsey Buckingham

Went to the Cincy show tonight (which was awesome...including Bwana) and talked to LB after the concert. During our conversation "Gift of Screws" came up and after I told him how great an album it was, I asked him to make sure he puts "Twist of Fate" on the next release. I was surprised by his answer....he said "what is Twist of Fate?" He then asked me to hum the song!!! He looked upwards for a few moments (like he was pondering) and told me that was an interesting idea.

Another tidbit of info....someone asked why no OTC songs were in any of his new concerts and he replied that he really never thought about it and in retrospect thought it was mistake not to include any of that material.

Pattie...

I have that Windows Movie Maker (making a video right now actually). It's a good way to cut videos into parts.

tuigirl 10-22-2006 02:16 AM

Well done you Cincymike1 !!!
Haha....I can't believe he dosn't know his own GOS songs!! Perhaps he was pretending that they hadn't really been leaked  (thank goodness they were, theyr'e tiding me over till the "electric" album comes out..whenever that'll be....)
Hey christy..maybe you'll get an OOTC song or 2 in your show :] that'd be cool

Maybe he doesn't call it Twist Of Fate himself, it's just other people that have come up with that alternate title for the song since there's no official release of it.

Good discussion about OOTC and GOS. And Bwana! Hopefully we'll get to hear that soon. :)

He did recognise the song then? Perhaps he calls it 'Light My Way??', maybe it has no title??
Didn't that track crop up on that Wild California film?

He has one track from L&O, one track from Go Insane and completely misses OTC, and he really never thought about putting anything from that album??
He's really losing his marbles.. :p

He does say live that Brett is "responsible for putting together their set"...and then refers to him as the "conscience of the band". Bwwhaaa. Anyway, I find it hard to believe that LB did not pick the majority of the set...hopefully now that someone pointed out the lack of Cradle songs, he will add one. (or three, or five)

Actually, that was what I was thinking.

Nico 10-22-2006 09:46 AM

I remember the OOtC question. I'm surprised by that. But he really doesn't know it's called Twist of Fate? Does he not go on ebay and occasionally type in his own name? Well, maybe that's a bit psychotic, but I would have thought someone would have told him by now. Sheesh.

skcin 10-22-2006 10:33 AM

Congrats on meeting the man himself. I'm glad you guys got to ask him some questions a lot of us have been thinking, instead of "oh my God I friggin' love you man" - which is probably all I would manage to say. :p

Josh2003 10-22-2006 12:05 PM

How awesome! I don't think I would have the balls to ask him about his unreleased stuff, though.

gldstwmn 10-22-2006 02:16 PM

He is such a trip. He's enigmatic on the same level as Bob Dylan. And that's why I love them both. I wonder what he calls Twist Of Fate? Or if he even has a name for it?

I think he was being facetious

cincymike1 10-22-2006 09:07 PM

Thx everyone for the nice comments. Believe me, it was extremely tough not glorifying his great musical skills by saying something to the extent of Bach, Beethoven, Buckingham... I did, however, want to clarify the context of our conversation as it appears it may have been misconstrued by some on this board. It was clear to me and my friends that LB was indeed being facetious. He definitely knew the song "Twist of Fate", however was having fun with the fact that I was asking about a song yet to be released. By his humorous ponderance of the question, it is clear that it is already very much a part of his next project.

zzagar 10-22-2006 09:23 PM

Cincymike... you're one of the alley guys that I met in Nashville, right? friends with Stacy? You guys called her phone on our way back... we hated ourselves for not waiting around!!! So glad you talked to him!!!

cincymike1 10-22-2006 09:55 PM

ZZagar,

I have to be honest in saying that we felt a bit guilty without you guys there as we know how much it would have meant for you to have met him.

It was definitely nice meeting you in Cincy and maybe we'll catch up with you at another concert down the road.

Not really psychotic.

The guy from The Darkness did it and bought up an advance promo copy of their album to try and stop the tracks being leaked.

joshywashy377 10-22-2006 11:55 PM

Well thank you for requesting it, i sooo want that song to be on there!

nichora 10-23-2006 05:19 AM

Lindsey doesn't seem to be on the net. In the recent radio interview, he didn't even know his own web site had the tour dates on it!?

I'm sure he's aware of the album leak, he's bound to. What can he do about it? Not a lot! Not talk about it I guess.

In actual fact, I think the leak has probably been helpful to his career. Its kept us fans occupied during the lul after 'The Dance'.

Thank you for asking such a gutsy question with Lindsey and thanks for sharing!

billwebster 10-23-2006 06:36 AM

Oh Well,

that's quite a strange story. But still it's great to hear that he admits putting 'Twist Of Fate' onto the next record would be a good idea. That song's guitar parts are brilliant.
He seems to have quite a lot of new and unreleased songs by now. If I could make up a wish list for songs to be included from the GOS sessions that are not out yet, it would be all those including the great guitar solos, because I'd want to listen to them in good sound quality, whistle along and dance to them with somebody special. These would be the following (preferrance on the first 4 in the list), which obviously didn't fit into the acoustic context of Under the Skin:

-Twist Of Fate (great guitar, as already mentioned)
-Deep Dense (great solo too, and almost a drum solo by Fleetwood)
-Shuffle Riff (great driving rhythm, but possibly no official title and my mp3 is too bad to understand coherent lyrics)
-Given Thing (upbeat song with fast and wild drumming)
-Gotta Get Away (I like the vocal arrangement)

and the two hard rock tunes
-Wear You Down
-Gift Of Screws

Btw, it's probably best for any artist in the public conciousness not to worry too much about what is written about them on the net, so if he's really not on the web even though the internet is getting its fair share of advertising in the other media, too, that is very professional.

Have you listened to the lossless GOS - the sound quality is fab. I almost want him NOT to release those tracks as I'd like some new ones..

You can download it at www.throwndown.net

It also compresses the vid so it is a reasonable size.

cincymike1 10-23-2006 09:05 PM

I agree with the thought of putting as few "Gift of Screws" songs as possible on the next release.

I would personally like to see "Twist of Fate" be on it, however we need as much new material as possible. Only negative to Under the Skin was it felt like there were only 5 new songs. That is not LB's fault, but any real fan has heard the torrent at this point so it would be best to put new songs out that were not part of the GOS project.

It doesn't suprise me he went out with no 'Out Of The Cradle' songs. He's gone out with a safe (ish) setlist showcasing his new material alongside his most commerical solo records and mac stuff. He
doesn't expect much of an audience, mostly those that will know the familiar tunes.

Anyway, he gets out on tour and to his surprise, he's suddenly got a load of
fans who know and love all his solo stuff including the obscure tracks. Listening to some reviews of the first show in Atlanta, he sounds overwhealmed by the reception he's got.

I do hope he decides to tour in the new year as mentioned in a couple of interviews. I expect the set list would have less Mac and more solo including Cradle stuff.

Rehearsed "All My Sorrows" at Detroit Soundcheck

While waiting around (for five hours in the rain), I was able to hear most of the soundcheck. They spent about 15 minutes rehearsing "All My Sorrows" after the soundcheck. It sounded good (from what I could hear), I was convinced that it would be the encore song that night, but it ended up being "Bleed To Love Her."

Janet 10-26-2006 01:36 AM

I am going to cry. I wish I were rich and free to travel so I could check out another show and just be able to meet him. I never wanted to meet him but GOD...it sounds so amazing....you guys are so lucky.

I agree that UTS has some "old" songs on it, but they are great songs and deserved their spot on an official release. I confess I tend to skip those when listening to UTS, but I'm glad they are there.

I hope all of the remaining GOS songs are included on the next release. I MUST have a clear, official release of Gift of Screws and Shuffle Riff!

shackin'up 10-26-2006 01:30 PM

I hope he skips the Stones-covers. But TOF, Shuffle riff( noone knows my name) and GOS are definately candidates. Steve's Riff and Given thing, finished, too.

cincymike1 10-26-2006 07:14 PM

So I think we all agree at this point that Shuffle Riff, Gift of Screws, Twist of Fate, Deep Dense, and Given Thing would be a good five to add to a 12 song cd. I would also have to add a vote for Wear You Down and Big Yellow Taxi on the next cd as well. Personal favorite is She Smiled Sweetly, but I figure if it didn't make UTS then there is no chance of it ever being released.

Good news is that I heard an interview with LB last night and he is definitely moving forward with his next solo project. He said he will definitely release it next year before he tours with the Mac in the Spring of '08.

Just out of curiousity....Carolina Girl are you the one who sat next to me and my brother at the Rynam concert in Nashville???

That is SO exciting to hear!!! At this point, I honestly only care about Lindsey. The touring with FM thing is cool but I want the new album and another tour by him (sorry if that's really greedy and selfish, but it's how I feel)...of course I'd take him with FM in a heartbeat, but only FM with Lindsey. I'm in LB cloud 9, what can I say? :blob1:

That might have been me...there were two guys to the left of my husband and me, and a man and woman to our right. I moved up a row once the show started, and then up close to the stage a little later.

As for the Stones covers, I hope he includes Gotta Get Away on the next cd. Sounds like he is planning to, based on the interview from Guiter World that was posted.

cincymike1 10-30-2006 01:48 AM

Based on the interview....it sounds like both "Gotta Get Away" and "Singer Not the Song" are on the next album. It is hard to tell if he is saying it is just Gotta Get Away or both songs.

My personal belief is that we will never see the sequal to UTS as LB will turn the new project into the next Fleetwood Mac release. There is no way that the record company is going to promote back to back LB cds in less than a year. Keep in mind that he always has enjoyed telling interviewers that the FM material was plucked from one of his upcoming projects and there is no reason to think next year will be any different. I honestly think it gives him something fun to talk about in all of the hundreds of promotional interviews that he has to do whenever FM releases new material.

LngPrmsdRd 11-01-2006 08:52 PM

I think it was my friends that asked about OOTC, lol!

And Brett isn't responsible for one certain OOTC song not appearing in the setlist, for sure...I talked to him outside in Chicago and somehow got to talking about songs we wished had been played... I brought up "Turn It On" because it's my favorite song (to where I have "The hurt that you feel makes you strong" tattooed on my lower back, lol) and he went "THAT'S WHAT I WANTED HIM TO PLAY!!!" but apparently Lindsey didn't think people would know it or something or other. Regardless, I encouraged Brett to try again as the person who puts the set together, LOL!

I think they get the idea now that people want to hear the OOTC songs...um, particularly from myself and my friends, hahaha, we were gunning hard for Soul Drifter, yelling it, we had a sign, when we talked to him in Cincy my friends mentioned it...yah... Well, perhaps the western shows will benefit? LOL!

I like the way you think! :) I'm feeling exactly the same way.

I'm not rightly sure we'll get a second ALBUM...but I am inclined to believe he might do another tour. At least another little one... We'll see, I suppose, but it's so darn hard to not get your hopes up now, isn't it??? It's just so freakin' awesome to get to see him solo live!!!
