What is the Best Song on "Tusk?"
ALL-righty HERE is a question for you guys!
What is the BEST song on "Tusk?" Some of you might be surprised about the opinion I've formed today - - - - I think it might actually be "Brown Eyes!" I'll post the reasons why I'm thinking that later but - - - Comments??? |
Beautiful Child

I can't argue against that - I prefer the "Live in Boston" version though, personally. But I love how on "Tusk" at the end, Lindsey takes out her voice and puts in his own, singing, "I'm not a child, anymore . . . I'M not a child, any-more!..." (Listen close if you haven't heard that...) VERY clever, I think. I do really think "Brown Eyes" is worth a real close look, though - I never really appreciated that one until listening to it this morning. |
Stevie and Chris songs on this album are just fantastic.
Lindsey's? ........ Let's just say it's a little Over My Head. ;) |
Over and Over.

I don't know from "best," but my favorite for a long time has been "I Know I'm Not Wrong." For no other reason than that it's just damn fun (lyrics notwithstanding). Love the drum beat, love that cymbal crash, love the "horns" (I'm sure they're not horns, but I've got no idea what instrument is actually making those honking sounds - anyone?), and love the way the "horns" give way to that great guitar coda. All of Lindsey's vocal manipulations and harmonizing with himself are also fantastic here.; that's really my favorite aspect of his music from this period.
Close seconds: Actually, if I start listing any, I'll end up listing 3/4 of the album. I think one of the great accomplishments of the Tusk album is its deliberately disjointed nature. If the production of Rumours was all about taking the works of three decidedly different songwriters and giving them a single, unifying "edgy California pop" aesthetic, then it seems as though on Tusk, Richard/Ken/Lindsey set about purposefully fashioning three very different and distinct aesthetics for each of the three songwriters, and then mashing them all together. So you get "Over And Over" segueing into "The Ledge," "What Makes You Think You're The One" into "Storms," "Honey Hi" into "Beautiful Child," and on and on. You could separate the album into three EPs - one each for Lindsey, Stevie and Christine - that all sound like unified wholes, but it's the jagged contrasts of throwing all those songs and voices up against each other that makes Tusk such a masterpiece. |

All the songs are the best except for SMAP, and Over and Over. And those are still good.
My favorites are IKINW, Ledge, and AngelSOTMBC. Also NF and HH. BECAUSE THEY JUST ARE. SMAP and Over and Over are less good because they drag just a wee bit too much, and their notage is a wee bit too bland. Eff off, Jyqm. |
Never Forget is my favorite song on Tusk.
|
Beauuuuuutiful Chiiiiiiiiiiiild.
Then Storms, I Know I'm Not Wrong, and the rest. |
I think You'll Never Make Me Cry is often overlooked. It's really beautiful.
|
"Brown Eyes" is my favorite. But, "Storms" & "I Know I'm Not Wrong" are close behind.
|
Don't know about best, but...
My fave song is Beautiful Child.
IKINW, Storms, Brown Eyes, Sara, WMYTYTO and Think About Me are faves too. |
Think About Me has ALWAYS been my favorite!
|
I Know I'm Not Wrong

I'm quite certain that I'm correct when I say I Know I'm Not Wrong.
|
One from each singer:
Lindsey - I Know Im Not Wrong Christine - Over & Over Stevie - Sara |

I would say it's number one, but for me it's number two. Nothing beats the perfection of "Sisters of the Moon". |

I love Christine's "over" songs -- Over My Head, Over and Over, Only Over You, All Over Again. Those are great songs! And I Know I'm Not Wrong about this!! |
Something by Lindsey I'd say it would be for me. I love his style on this album (on all of them actually). The mood of those songs is just something that really strikes a chord with me. All of Lindsey's songs (on all albums) just appeal to me so much.
On Tusk I also really like Beautiful Child but like the Live In Boston version better. Brown Eyes is also one of the best Chris songs. |
Tafe
This may be a bit unusual but I dig those lush, ethereal harmonies on "That's All for Everyone." Maybe Lindsey can be a bit of a Brian Wilson imitator at times, but... sometimes the imitation is better than the real thing.

Stevie Sara
Christine Over & Over Lindsey I Know I'm Not Wrong Other top ones: Angel, Not That Funny Beautiful Child and Sisters of the Moon have grown on me thanks to live versions and the Tusk outtake cd. |
I would have to say Storms for me.
|
Sara
Hands down. It's six minutes of perfection. It is my favorite song in the world. It is the song which introduced me to this wonderful band. It got me through a lot of ****ty times. Musically, it's gorgeous. What else can I say. Now if only that 16 minute version would surface...I would die happy. |
if i could only listen to one song from tusk for the rest of my life, it would have to be beautiful child.
but, to be fair, of lindsey's, i'd pick the ledge. of chris', i'd pick brown eyes. |
Stevie - Sara
Christine - Over & Over Lindsey - That's All For Everyone And then out of those three I'd have to pick Sara as the best/favourite. |
That's a lot of Stevie, but, honestly, my favorite songs on Tusk are Storms, Sara and Beautiful Child. And probably (3 of my) favorite FM songs overall.
However I like most of the other songs as well. |
Not that Funny :blob2: :blob2: :blob1:
..but all of LB's in general and a couple of Stevies as well |
Theres just so many on this one for me, I would have to go with
Walk a thin line Angel:angel: Sisters of the Moon I Know I'm Not Wrong Think About me It's just so hard to pick, I'd say its my favorite FM album |

I'd have to say either IKINW or Angel for me.
Live, on the other hand, SOTM takes all other songs downtown. |
Well, this is definitely a tough one for me. My favorite is Sara, but I think the best might be Walk A Thin Line.

I'm talkin' downtown! |
Oh, jeez I'm striking out on this. I don't have this one either . . . yet. Come on, ask about one that I have.
Lee :) |
Stevie: Storms
Lindsey: The Ledge Christine: Never Make Me Cry |

That's right. SOTM crushes one out of the yard when compared to the rest. :D |
While I LOVE "Brown Eyes", I'd have to "Angel"....it's one of my all-time favorite FM songs...
|
OK, apart from my favorite Stevie songs that I mentioned yesterday, my favorite Lindsey songs are IKINW and Tusk.
As for Christine's, I like Brown Eyes a lot, and (don't flame me!) if it weren't for all the "cha la la", it would probably be my favorite Christine song (apart from You make loving fun). |
