When do they actualy arrive in Australia? is it this weekend?

Gazz 11-28-2009 04:07 AM

My best estimate is midnight Saturday Melbourne time, based on Mick's interview on Melbourne radio saying they were leaving Friday (US time).

DavidMn 11-28-2009 05:40 AM

This is so exciting for me personally to see all of you fine folks "down under" get your chance to see them. I would've loved to have gone to either Australia or New Zealand for some of these shows, but alas airfare and work got in the way!:lol: I'm not complaining though I had a pretty good year. Anyway, like I said I'm very happy and excited for all of you In Aus and NZ. Have a great time and tell lots of stories!

No promises?? You need to take a vow, swear and oath. If they start making out, you are honor bound to record it!

Hi Everyone!!

Tomorrow Is The Big Day!

Who is coming? I'm going tomorrow for Dec1st, got a second row ticket, this will likely be the only show i get up to the stage for, and i haven't organised much else... only bought the ticket last week! Got to charge up the ol camera... would love to do some sound recording for you all, but don't have the equip... :-(

Also going to the second show, don't know where our tickets are... bit suss but bought them from ebay, from some preschool in LA that Mick donated tickets to, and have the "tour manager"'s phone number to call and they put tickets aside for us in the "band section"??? I don't know what to make of it, but these were the only tickets i could get my hands on, very excited to take my step mum to, as she was the one that got me into the band in the first place.

I really want to get good tickets, but won't have the new camera for it...
Feel like i'm letting myself down, i just haven't been super organised this time!

I'm also off to Hunter Valley show this weekend and Brisbane last show.. got to go to the last show of the tour!

Meowi 11-30-2009 04:24 AM

Hmmm, what should a 14 year old expect to see at a FM concert?
Geez, not long to go - I'm going on the Wednesday show

DavidMn 11-30-2009 04:50 AM

Well if getting to the stage is as easy as it was for me in London, you guys should really try for it. The second London show I had 15th row and I just wandered up like 20 min before showtime and stood at the stage right between Lindsey and Stevie and no one said a thing!

Fleetwood Mac hopes winery shows will be bottlers

December 1, 2009

MICK Fleetwood loves Australia so much he is visiting twice this summer.

Over the next two nights, his band Fleetwood Mac will perform hits such as Go your Own Way, Don't Stop, Rhiannon, Gypsy and Tusk before sell-out crowds at Rod Laver Arena.

He will return seven weeks later with the Fleetwood Mac Blues Band to play at country wineries with Boz Scaggs and the Doobie Brothers' Michael McDonald. While only one song - 1967's Oh Well - is likely to feature on both tours, he says the blues band is his way of paying homage to the originators who started the band with him 40 years ago.

''Over my career I've been called a pop star and a rock star, yet in my inner heart, I will always be part blues man,'' says Fleetwood. ''On my journey from blues to a life of rock'n'roll, I've always remembered where I started.''

This week's shows, says Fleetwood, will feature a different set list to its last tour in 2004. Recent lists lean heavily on the classic 1977 Rumours and 1979 Tusk albums, as well as solo songs from members Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham.

''This tour will be different because we always usually play new songs - it's always fine and people bear with it - but this time around we don't have a new album,'' he says from his home in Maui, Hawaii. ''After 40 years of being who you are, it's cool to be less selfish. The crowds are loving it because they are emotionally connected to every single song.'' His return trip will be more of a show for blues purists.

''It will be for more of a boutique tour, but I think people will have a lot of fun playing songs like Oh Well, Albatross and Shake your Money Maker - all of the great old stuff that started Fleetwood Mac.''

Fleetwood Mac play Rod Laver Arena tonight and tomorrow. The Mick Fleetwood Blues Band play Sutton Grange Winery, Victoria, on Saturday, February 20, and Balgownie Estate Vineyard Resort & Spa, Yarra Valley, on February 21.

Well hi :wavey:
I'll be up with you tonight... got second row B section. If you want to introduce yourself I'll be in a sleeveless dark purple top, pony tail.

StreetAngel86 12-01-2009 04:04 AM

Can someone let me no how the camera situation is 2nite. I dont like all those VERY overt NO CAMERA signs everywhere :§

Gazz 12-01-2009 08:53 AM

The band played an awesome show tonight. Stevie was exceptionally happy and put a lot into all her songs. They seemed really pleased to be here - Mick is well recovered, Lindsey his usual best but John looked a bit tired. I hope he is ok. The show was very well received, but...

I must say, they had to work very hard with audience to get the kind of reactions I saw during my six shows in the US earlier this year. My home town crowd did not respond the way I was used to, so that was disappointing. E.g. very little cheering to Stevie story about Gypsy, even though she kept adding more and more to it! The audience got going late in the night with GYOW and Don't Stop, so that was ok.

The lack of cheering wasn't helped by the meaness of security only letting the first six rows up. It wasn't enough, as many older people did not want to stand all night, so it was the smallest bunch up the front I have seen. They will hopefully relax this for future shows so a packed crowd up the front can go off like the US ones did! We managed to get up there for Silver Springs (from row 12).

Off to bed now. Hope to a get a good ticket tomorrow and try again!

PS - for the person who asked about cameras - security were obessively strict about ehm too - none allowed!

cheers, Gazz

I love the thought of Stevie adding to the Gypsy story.

The band is sensitive to crowd reaction, so maybe there will be changes made at the next show based on the dampened response they received tonight.

Thanks for the review!

Ugh! Dean, are you reading this? Fix this pronto!

I was a bit concerned that they would be all jetlagged and sleep-deprived, so it's good to hear that things went off without a hitch. And "Silver Springs" means Mama's not under the weather. I could just imagine that Mick was probably quarantined somewhere in the back of the plane while everyone else donned surgical masks (with little piggy noses drawn on them) in the front.

Fleetwood Mac December 2, 2009

Rod Laver Arena, last night
Reviewer Patrick Donovan

DESPITE being mired in acrimony, Fleetwood Mac's finest album, Rumours, has sold more than 30 million copies around the world. And singer-guitarist Lindsey Buckingham said it was worth suffering for their art.

''We've had a fairly complex, convoluted and emotional history - it's not always been easy - but in the long run, it's been worth it,'' he said.

With no new album to spruik, last night the band played a greatest-hits set for the fans at Rod Laver Arena, focusing on songs from Rumours, the 1975 self-titled album and 1979's more adventurous Tusk.

Monday Morning, The Chain, Dreams, Gypsy and Rhiannon set the scene before Mick Fleetwood emerged from the drum kit to lead the band in its tribal anthem, Tusk.

There was the odd solo track from Stevie Nicks and Buckingham, but the band has become so omnipresent that Fleetwood will return in February with his other group, the Fleetwood Mac Blues Band, to play the group's early blues material.

Draped in a black shawl and wearing leather gloves, twirling and clutching at the black scarves dangled over the microphone stand, Nicks' husky US west coast voice was as mesmerising as ever.

At the end of Sarah she approached Buckingham's microphone, lowered it and sang the last line before embracing her ex-lover.

On the first night of summer, it was a reminder to the ecstatic cross-generational crowd that music can heal the deepest rifts.

Ok. Is "spruik" a word? I'm going to use it all over the place when I'm in Australia and you guys will never know I'm a tourist!

We were actually row 11, not row 12, on Stevie's side, right on the left aisle.

A few more things to report:

The friend I went with is an experienced concert-goer but this was his first mac concert. He was very impressed with the performance and had a great time, but commented on the sound - Stevie's mic is too low and Lindsey drowns her out on harmonies too often. I hadn't noticed this in the US because I was always at the stage, so not sure if this has occurred elsewhere.

Further to my comments on the audience, people tell me that Australian audiences are, in general, quiet and don't cheer that much when artists are talking, because the culture here is to listen until they are finished. It was a little surprise to see Stevie thrown off when she was used to getting the cheers all through her Gypsy preamble. Lindsey received less cheering too but I loved how they kept working the audience until everyone was rocking at the end. They would have been knocked out with the packed venue, because all the US ones I went to were not completely full.

For me, the experience was less rewarding that the US concerts, mainly because I wasn't up front and the different audience, but I think the crowd in general had a fantastic night and were very impressed.

The final leg of "Unleashed" will hopefully be seen as a great success!

Did you know Stevie has a husky US West Coast voice? What if she was from NYC? Would she then have a husky East Coast voice?

It's the fog and the salty air. It's why you can only get good sourdough bread in San Francisco.

DoubtfulMiracle 12-02-2009 07:21 AM

It's super exciting just even thinking that FM are finally here in Australia! It's now less than 2 weeks until I see them, and I can't wait. It's great to hear those of you who went last night with some really positive things to say.

Gazz, I've only ever been to concerts here in Brisbane, but I'm generally appalled by the apparent lack of crowd enthusiasm. In saying that, people who look completely disinterested will still rave about the concert afterwards -- so I'm sure they're enjoying it on the inside ;) . I think it definitely varies with where you sit though, with the front and sometimes the whole floor a much rocking-er place than anywhere else. In short, everyone squeeze to the front where you can!

I never knew spruik wasn't a 'real' word!

I had to Google it to be told that, yep, it's essentially an Australian slang term. Thankfully the ABC tells me that I'm not the only one likely to have missed the fact that it is "one of Aussie English’s contributions to the world." I guess that's along with other cracking phrases like "she'll be apples", "we'll give it a burl", "stop carrying on like a pork chop" and, one of my personal favourites, "up the duff".

justcrazylove 12-02-2009 08:10 AM

Second show was amazing! no Silver Springs, but the band played and sounded better, tonight i was on Stevie's side of the stage and she was better than the first night! My sister came with me tonight having never been to a Mac show and all she could say was "i see why you followed Lindsey around the US he is incredible" it's great justification for me lol  she did feel that Stevie songs were somewhat more "boring" than linds! great moment to mention was during the band intro's Stevie was standing behind John and crept up on him and she scared the **** out of him, it was quite funny.

All in all a better show than the first night due to Stevie hitting some killer notes and Lindsey just kicking ass like normal!

well onto Sydney!

Rock and Roll

Hi everyone, i just got home.... tired and got to go to bed for work tomorrow, BUT i will be uploading photo's tomorrow! and i recorded storms on my camera, so will upload it to share with you all.
Will quickly say, i thought stevie was better the first night, in the getting into the song way. However, she was more interactive with the audience tonight, waving at the end and going to the side of the stage to wave to the people on the very side sections, i took a few pics of this.
I hope to have time to get these pics up before i'm off to the hunter valley.... at which i intend on veideo'ing the enitre concert... thats if security lets me

StreetAngel86 12-02-2009 08:28 AM

Holy effin ****...this show was 50x betta than all the syw shows i went 2. Stevie is just the most gorgeous bitch eva. My earz r stil ringn. Proper review wen i can get 2 a comp...just WoAH" no SS tho :(
