I'm first. Do I win the lotto?(Spoiler)
My vinyl copy was delivered at 2:10PM. I just checked and my email was sent out at 10:18 AM Eastern time. I was at Walmart are 1Pm and decided to check my email and my confirmation email was sent. At about 2:30 PM I clicked on the UPS link while waiting in the car at Walgreens and it said it was delivered! Then we went to United Grocery Outlet to pick up some Nonni's bread crusts to put Black Diamond cheddar spread on while I listened to the album. She Loves Him Still has some sweet flute parts on it.

Is Mabel any good?

Troll.......
|
can't see your profile
|
wait, you say yours was delivered at 2:10pm and yet you posted that at 1:54pm…? And you have comments on specific songs in the other thread listed at 1:20 and thereabouts. I'm confused. What time zone are you in?

hes definitly not a troll. hes been here for years and quite reliable. I just dont see how hard it is to do a track by track review. Or at least offer a few small tidbits that stand out (like is I dont care part of any demo we know?) if you dont want to, fine just say so, but sending us to hunt you down on facebook isnt helping.

Bear with me. I am watching a nearly 3 year girl with occasional temper tantrums. 'I don't care about next year. I don't care about yesterday I don't care that you don't see it I just care that you fell it'.
|
I found Jim on FB but in order to see anything you must "friend" him. That's unfortunately a trick some people who *are* trolls use to get a lot of likes on their FB pages. So Jim I would recommend if you aren't making your posts about the album public on FB that you share them here.

Feel it oops.

I tried
I tried to post videos and photos. It seems YouTube has changed the rules about embedding. My photos are way too big to post. Has anyone else gotten the album yet? Sorry I couldn't do any better.

I listened to it 3 times. A very well made record In my opinion. I am hoping Rolling Stone and others gives it at least 4 stars. As a Stevie record I think it is very special.

We really need some snippets here!
|
I'm listening now:
If You Were My Love: Payoff is when the song finally hits the minor chord after moving between the 1 and major 2 throughout. Not much happening. Mabel Normand: Not my taste. Reminiscent of her vocal on Wide Sargasso Sea, but without a discernible chorus. Twisted: Simple and beautiful, very Nashville. Full-on harmonies with Stevie and the girls. Major lyric change: "Well, I got your demons!" Song definitely moves. Best version we have officially but not quite the level of the live performances from '98. |

I like that Blue Water snippet a lot. It's got drums and guitars on it...sounds like they really fleshed it out.

Belle Fleur: Most musically interesting so far. Banjo! Sounds like something Dolly Parton might have recorded in the 80s. LOOOOOOONG musical intro with growling, grinding bass and mirrored in the outro. "Canyon dancing, all night long."
All The Beautiful Worlds: Very "Rock A Little." Really shows Stevie's songwriting prowess. Very sophisticated chord structure and movement. Synth/EP driven, again 80s in a good way. Brilliant vocal in bridge: "Ooooooh you say you're leavin' baby!" First one of the tracks we haven't heard yet that I'd call "classic Stevie." |

I Don't Care: Hard rocker but pretty weak lyrically. Starts acoustic and rather soft, goes back and forth between electric and "unplugged" as she says "I don't mean it, I do care..." Reminds me of "Ghosts Are Gone" in the rockin' parts.
