What Fleetwood Mac songs are really Lindsey solo songs?
I wasn’t sure whether to put this in the Rumours forum of the Lindsey forum, but ultimately decided on the Rumours forum. My question is, has it ever been said definitively which Lindsey songs that appeared on FM albums were actually recorded with the band? I know we could all guess, but has it ever been acknowledged for sure which songs they were? Please correct me if I’m wrong.
Definite solo songs: Make Me a Mask The Ledge Save Me a Place It Takes Time That’s Enough For Me 95% certain solo songs: Family Man Big Love Tango in the Night That’s All For Everyone Not That a funny Book of Love Always wondered about: Caroline Tusk I Know I’m Not Wrong Empire State Oh Diane Book of Love I really wonder about Tusk- I assume the band recorded it together, but with the marching band playing along, I can’t really tell. |
I know Mick was playing a steak on Tusk.

If I remember correctly, John McVie mentioned in a Q&A with The Penguin that he played bass on "Caroline". The vocal interlude in "Family Man" was also sung by Nicks according to Buckingham in a 1987 interview. |

I have never heard (or heard of) It Takes Time. Can you tell me about it? |

If it’s on a Fleetwood Mac album it’s not a solo song. I get the question but ever since TUSK it’s always been a good question. Lindsey obviously used more of his “own musical stuff “ from 1979-1987 on the the Fleetwood Mac albums instead of using his band.

Stevie said something about not wanting to record because her mother died. I think her mother died in December 2011. She went on tour in summer of 2012, premiered her In Your Dreams doc in the fall. At the end of 2012, she went to Lindsey's house to record three songs. Lindsey desired for Stevie to contribute songs to the band's recording so she chose Without You because it was found on YouTube. It Takes Time was probably put on the EP to actually make it an EP. Mick loves It Takes Time and believes it to be Lindsey's apology to Stevie. |

My guess is Mick provided the drum beats that were probably looped in “Caroline.” |

If you don't know how to download from YouTube (it's relatively easy), I'm happy to post a link to the files. What I didn't have the presence of mind to download, to my eternal regret, is the now-unavailable One Man Show live album. If anyone wants to help me out, please post a download link or DM me. I am happy to reciprocate with a Lindsey radio broadcast from 1992 (San Luis Obispo, his actual first solo show – not Centerstage as he claimed), as well as the 12/15/20 video live stream he did during lockdown. |
Why didn't anyone mention Never Going Back Again?

Anything on Time > “It Takes Time”

"Walk A Thin Line."
According to his 1993 interview with Paul Zollo in the book Songwriters On Songwriting, Lindsey plays the drums: "That was me on drums. Mick was appalled. He was appalled that these drums were going out and people would think that it's him (sic), because it offended the finer points of his sensibilities. And I understand that. I was really going for slop." Maybe John's on it, but I doubt Christine is. May be all Lindsey. |

But again, it's five seconds total. |
"Songbird"

I'd all but forgotten about EP.
The synth strings on "It Takes Time" weren't a good decision, but I appreciated the olive branch he was extending to Stevie. Such a shame she cost us that album. |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZnDFNRPkKM However, there is also another clip, which I cannot locate, where Christine is outright suggesting the pattern to Lindsey and demonstrating it to him. Lindsey likes it and picks up on it. But I cannot find that right now. |
