New Music....
So I was thinking of this bands legacy. Even though the last album by this band was called Buck/ McVie because there was no Steivie it was an amazing final project with these musicians. If they did record a new album with this " New Band" Now is the time. Crowded House is one of favorite bands and has been for years. I tell my fam that I feel my music world has collided. (which it has) I'm coming to terms with what has happened and dealing. I probably will see them in Baltimore in March for a couple of reasons.
New Set list Neil Finn Love all the MAC lineups. It would be great if they recorded an album before the tour in October and release it and that would really show that this is a " New Band" |
I think there may be promise there, with the strong songwriting/composing credits Neil and Mike have. Just wondering what sort of style it will be in. I hope if it happens it sounds naturally inspired. and not forced or disconnected. They're probably gonna have to find a new balance, in this group made up of strong personalities from diverse backgrounds.
Neil Finn fans are also trying to get their heads around this and what it may mean for him. I don't think he's the type who will take on something for a long period of time, that won't also advance him creatively. Early days yet but we'll see what happens. |
I am much more excited about the prospect of new music from these four very strong writers than I am about any kind of tour!

I’m 50-50 with the new lineup doing new music. A lot can happen between now and then. However, it’s more likely now that Lindsey is gone. I think Stevie would be up for a quick, simple album than the long, drawn out process of recording with Lindsey. But, I could just as easily see nothing come of it, save maybe a DVD.

As people who take note of them would be aware, Mick and Neil have been hanging out with each other for awhile now. They appear to get along very well. http://ultimateclassicrock.com/neil-...fleetwood-mac/ Quote:

I think they may have met at the 2015 VNZMA awards, at end of FM's last tour which finished up in NZ. Obviously they hit it off. |

I too am a Finn fan though Neil's solo stuff really hasn't done it for me for the most part and nor have any of his spin-off projects. I do wonder how his songs would sound against Chris and Stevie's though. |

The real reason I suspect they're not recording an album first is because I think they're going to wait and see how the tour goes before they decide to record together. If the tour doesn't go well, whether it's audience reaction or behind the scenes, then they won't record together. If the tour does go well, then they will record an album. |

Some Neil fans are hoping this will be over quickly but doesn't damage end up damaging his credibility if things don't go well. Man oh man.

Btw, when Mick Fleetwood returned to Australia in 2016, I think he may have already been planning to do that before he met Neil Finn in NZ. Before he got there, he said he wanted to come back with his blues band and do some gigs with Australian singer Jimmy Barnes. (They did perform together in 2016 at an Australian blues festival.) Age is probably not such an issue in the blues music genre, if that's where they're heading. But I think they'd still want to keep some of the FM sound. |
If they do make new music the perfect producer would be Mitchell Froom - he did loads of work with Neil (and his brother Tim) and co-produced three tracks on the BuckVie album although I notice they were all Lindsey compositions so probably a bit ironic.

It's way too early, but if FM did record a new album, I would love to see/hear what Patrick Leonard could do with FM again. He produced Love Shines and Heart of Stone and did an incredible job. Christine's music sounded different than anything I'd heard from her before, and it would be intriguing to see what he could do with Stevie's material as well. |
So excited about the possibility of new music from Stevie and Chris, even if it's just a slim possibility at the moment. Fingers crossed it happens.

I also like the idea of Patrick Leonard, but Mick said he was a very, very expensive producer. |
Not about the Mac but I thought interesting about the Rolling Stones. This is something that has worked well for them. https://theconversation.com/rolling-...r-no-one-92556
Excerpt: "Returning, or retreating, to the blues that influenced them initially seems both a natural and a strategic move. Strategic in that it taps into a lineage of long-running performers that predates rock. But also natural enough given that the blues has been a musical thread throughout their albums and shows... For an act such as the Stones, harking back to their musical roots may be a way of aligning their musical development with its own antecedents, at the same time as allowing for a mode of performance less reliant on the physicality of their younger days. Paying tribute to the past – both their own, and musical history more broadly – is a means of carrying it forward. Time may be on their side after all." |
If this is a true " New band" we need new music. I'm such a huge Finn fan and would love to see what they come up with. The one thing I will say about every single Fleetwood Mac album is that everyone has its appeal to me in its own right. If the "legacy" of FM moves on a new album will need to be produced.....not an ep or a digital release an actual ALBUM.

He's a talented producer who lets musicians share in the creative/production process. Mitchell produced the first three Crowded House albums including "Woodface". Neil likes to tell the story that Mitchell Froom was the one who helped him finish his song "Fall At Your Feet". Neil had the verses and the chorus but they were two separate songs. Mitchell suggested that Neil pair the verses with the chorus into one song and they tried it and out came the "Fall At Your Feet" that ended up on Woodface. And, as I've mentioned, I've been told that the new Fleetwood Mac lineup is planning to record some new material this summer with the hope to release it prior to the upcoming tour. I would guess that it turns out to be an EP of 3-4 songs but I'm sure it will depend what emerges. |

Sad Angel / Fleetwood Mac Miss Fantasy / Fleetwood Mac In My World / Buckingham McVie Lay Down for Free / Buckingham McVie On with the Show / Buckingham McVie Lindsey asked Froom to produce Fleetwood Mac album in 2012. the Fleetwood Mac album Stevie Nicks consistently refused to participate in from 2012 through the end of 2016. at the time Nicks didn't think Froom is a good fit, apparently. it will be interesting if she changes her mind on Froom, too, now. but i figure every Fleetwood Mac fan already knows all this. |
