What songs do you consider non-hits from Mirage?

Moving on now to the Mirage album, so pick the songs you feel are non-hits and should be eligible in the contest.

I removed Gypsy and Hold Me, as they are obviously hits.

Did I understand your question? I voted for everything except "Love in Store" because it was a hit.

You understand it correctly. The songs with the most votes will count as non-hits in the favorite non-hit song contest.

vivfox 03-18-2012 03:28 PM

Hey McTrouble,:wavey: I voted for every song except Love In Store(which was a single). I didn't even consider your fave, Oh Diane because that song should just be tossed in the garbage can as far as I am concerned.

Everything but Love in Store as others have said.

Can't go back, can't go back...

Hi there! Well, I just voted for some songs from Mirage, to choose the "Non-Hit". As I can see, there's 4 or 5 songs that received lot of votes.
I'm not going to include Love in Store, but I must admit I voted for Oh Diane, which was a hit in the UK (#9, thanks CADreaming!).
And, for what I've been watching on other topics, for me, the non-hit, could be between Only over You, Straight Back and, of course, Empire State. I repeat, just for me...
Regards and thank you!

I've heard the use Only Over You to break
the detainees at Guantanamo Bay. Talk about
cruel and unusual punishment.

Hey now...:mad::mad::mad:

It took A LONG time for me to learn to appreciate OOY.
I now love the "range" of her voice on OOY.

God, I miss her.

I miss her too. But that song is unlistenable.

I never really liked it until I heard As Long As You Follow. The outros helped me understand the feel and sentiment. I love both tunes now.

But at one point I felt it was un-listenable as well.

No that was "When I See You Again." It was quite effective.

michelej1 03-20-2012 11:53 AM

I've always loved Only Over You. In some strange way, I consider it a counterpart to Over My Head. I guess because of the words, not the music.

The songs I find unlistenable are Warm Ways and Brown Eyes.

Michele

I've always felt that way about Warm Ways. The production sounds more dated, than anything off the White Album. Those tom tom fills = CHEESE sandwich.:laugh:

MacShadowsBall 03-20-2012 12:43 PM

It is looking like Gypsy, Hold Me, and Love in Store will count as hits.

Still undecided about "Oh Diane" as evidenced by the votes. It was a Top 10 hit in the UK, but it wasn't a hit in the US. Songs don't really have a chance of being a hit if they are not released as a single.

Oh Diane was released as a single in the US. I read that it did not chart and also that it went to #35...

MacShadowsBall 03-20-2012 03:36 PM

Here's the wiki article...

Kinda strange but it seems that Oh Diane was a bigger hit in the UK than Gypsy was in the U.S.

Yeah that's where I got the info. It says OD went to 35 on the AC chart...?

MacShadowsBall 03-20-2012 03:57 PM

Well it is wikipedia, but what else is a good source for music?

Here's the link to the article here on the Penguin. Under "Comments" it just mentions the #9 spot on the UK charts.

http://discog.fleetwoodmac.net/songs...184&perfid=380

I've always wondered what the reasoning is in releasing different singles in other countries. Love in Store was released in the US at the same time Oh Diane was in the UK.

CADreaming 03-20-2012 04:10 PM

^Here's another source. It also says OD went to 35 on Billboard's AC chart:

Go figure. I hate that song! Lol

Not many people like the song so I doubt it would win anyway. Most Ledgies seem to be split on the decision so I guess its up to me!

guess it depends whether you want to be more US-centric or internationally oriented.

OD is the perfect fit for a title of that trash. OD=kill it.

There is so little to hate about Oh Diane, if only because it's such a small song, both in it's brief length and scant lyrics. It's more of a sketch than it is a song. It certainly fits in with Lindsey's predisposition (on the Mirage album) to a retro 1950's style.

It's a non-offensive, inconsequential, pleasant but paper-thin slice of music. But it does completely baffle me that it got traction in Europe, and was a hit. It's even featured on their single disc version of The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac. I have the single 45 picture sleeve single, as well as the 12" inch single with artwork featuring the French Penguin logo. I love that more than the song.

But why the overkill about your desire to kill Diane? She's barely a blip on the radar. Your desire to kill concerns me! Oh Viv!

Note: Has anyone noticed that the lol icon is not what it should be?

MacShadowsBall 03-21-2012 10:24 AM

Gypsy, Hold Me, and Love in Store are the hits.

Oh Diane is a non-hit and will be in the contest.
