Saw it by mistake - I recorded Amazing Race but 60 Minutes went long due to football. :( It was an OK interview. BTW - don't know if anyone's already posted this, but if you really despise Walmart I heard you can buy the CD directly from the band's website.

At least you can hear Eagles harmonies on every song, unlike SYW, where a couple songs like Red Rover were served up exactly as they were recorded for his solo album. Honestly I'm really surprised you think this album sounds more solo-combo than SYW.

P.S. I thought the 60 Minutes interview wasn't all that hot!

Probably because "Somebody" was written by the same guy (Jack Tempchin...who also wrote "Peaceful Easy Feeling" & "Already Gone") that wrote "You Belong To The City" & "Smuggler's Blues".

I will say this, one angle of Fleetwood Mac VS Eagles comparison where frankly I dont think there is any is the approachability of the members. I mean, Having had experience with Mick and Lindesy and seeing how genuinely friendly they are, from everything I've heard, Frey and Henley and the exact opposite and dont like interacting with their fans at all.

That's not true about Henley and Frey. I've never met Frey, but I've heard he can be quite personable with fans, esp. on the golf course. :) I've met Henley numerous times and he has always been friendly and chatty and happily poses for photos and signs everything you ask him to sign.

I'm sure Soda will chime in since she's met Henley and Frey and Lindsey too so she can really compare the experiences.

yeah my friend Mr Bill met Henley on the Inside Job tour, as well as Stan Lynch (who was there to see the show) and chatted with both of them for several minutes, and Don happily signed something for Bill. I think, like just about everyone, these folk have their good moments and bad moments.

I've met Don Henley a few times as well, and he couldn't have been nicer. Hey, wasn't it Fleetwood Mac that used to refer to fans as "punters"? It's only of late that Lindsey's been seriously reaching out to fans. Stevie always had some means of having fan contact either by her former fan mail lady, the "edge walk" and she still takes fan mail via the web site connection on Nicks Fix. Lindsey's website and Q&A are totally new ventures. Any contact Mick has had with fans has chiefly been about raising money. John McVie has probably been the kindest with the fans and did a Q&A here. I don't think as a whole Fleetwood Mac has been particularly fan friendly. Some of it, in the early days, had to due with security issues-- for both bands actually. The Eagles most recent album has probably already gone platinum.

As mylittledemon put it best, they all probably have their good and bad days. But large crushing groups of fans tend to unnerve anyone. The pictures DavidMN has put up look like he's in chiefly been in a moment where the giant swarms of fans aren't present. You've been quite lucky David.

Yeah when I met Lindsey we were in the hotel bar. His guard was down, I suppose, since we werent all lined up for autographs and such. I think he knew he could just "talk" to those of us that were there...thus the comments he made about my brother and I, and our various piercings! =)

You do realise that's not an insult? It just means a paying customer. It's mainly used to describe drinkers at a pub.

I did not know that. The word is not common in American parlance. In fact, Sam Emerson, the Mac's one-time official biographer, said on radio that the term was derogatory. I took his word for it.

They used to be sort of standoffish, compared with some other bands.

The Eagles have started to add new American dates (just check out Ticketmaster). I plan to go to the show at the Hard Rock Park in South Carolina on June 2, then drive over to Mississippi to see the Stevie show at the Hard Rock Casino on June 5. Crazy, I know, but they're both general admission - and with them both being Hard Rock, it seems meant to be. ;)


I always meant to answer this but never got around to it, so might as well take the opportunity now. Regarding meeting them and approachability off-stage:

Stevie: When you meet her, she makes you feel totally loved when she's speaking with you, but probably won't remember you five minutes later - and who can blame her, with all the fans she's seen? Outside of controlled contexts, unapproachable offstage. (When I see "controlled contexts," I mean charity events and meet'n'greets - the only times I've talked to her, and only for two minutes a time, have been at those. In a hotel lobby in Atlanta, I glimpsed her coming through surrounded by her fan-repellent entourage). Maybe someone else has had a different experience, but that's what I've seen. I consider her the least approachable of the group. However, one must give her kudos for how gracious and sweet she is at her meet'n'greets . I will never forget how I felt when she took my hand and thanked me for donating to AHI.

Lindsey: Very approachable, as many of you know at this point. While going to his car from the show, he will sign stuff most of the time. On his own time, he is also happy to talk to fans. In my personal experience, when myself and some hard-cores saw him at a bar in Chicago, he came over and talked to us in a very friendly, genuine manner. Lindsey also is good about remembering you if he's seen you before, even if he only saw you from the stage.

Mick: I met him briefly at a meet'n'greet. He seemed eager to talk to fans, even excited when people talked to him. Perhaps this was because he was standing next to Stevie and not getting much attention, but from what I hear (although not personal experience) he is happy to talk to fans on his own time as well.

Don Henley: I have only met him briefly at Stevie's side after AHI in 2005, but he was very gracious to me and the other Stevie fans who talked to him. As HenleyFan states above, he has done meet'n'greets for fans where he is very charming and attentive. Additionally, he recognizes his hard-cores and has even acknowledged the fansite of HenleyFan, developing a rapport with her/them. I had not realized that he signed autographs and does pictures on his own time as well- that definitely puts him above Ms. Nicks on the "off-stage approachability" scale.

Glenn Frey: A special case, very unpredictable. Catch him off-stage and he may or may not sign autographs, depending on how he sizes you up and his mood. He is very concerned with autograph hounds but if he senses you're a real fan, he'll usually do autographs unless he's in a hurry. He doesn't really like to take photos with people, but will make exceptions on occasion if he feels you're sincere and not a photo-hound. He doesn't do meet'n'greets unless it is stipulated in his contract or some very special occasion. That said, in controlled contexts like charity golf tournaments, he is VERY sweet and attentive to fans, coming over and chit-chatting with you as if he's your friend and signing autographs even when he's not feeling very good. He has also demonstrated "above and beyond" behavior to super-hard-core fans that exceeds anything I have seen or heard about regarding any of the Mac members.

In sum, according to my own observations, one can't make a simplistic statement that the members of the Mac are more fan-friendly than those of the Eagles. It depends on the circumstance and which member you're talking about at which time.

As this is a hideously old thread I don't expect replies, but I thought I would "update" nonetheless!

it didnt move me at all...Sorry, seems that classic rock/soft rock as of late doesnt have any effect on me. Weird, one is supposed to mellow with age - I however am regressing back into my 'metal-dom'.
