stores near me. Maybe 40 miles or so. Diana's album arrived today with a bonus. The cover was bent due to total lack of caring about packaging. I won't say the name of the retailer, but there's a forest with a very similar name. |

In other news..... I pre-ordered the new Regina Spektor album that released on September 30. It was a 2LP, clear vinyl pressing with a lithograph and bonus tracks. It arrived with the "CLEAR VINYL" sticker on it. But...it was black vinyl. I was super annoyed at first, so I wrote to Warner and let them know. Turns out, all off the copies that were supposed to be clear were pressed in black by mistake, so Warner is sending out new copies in clear vinyl to everyone who pre-ordered it. In the end, I get two for the price of one, and I'm ok with that. |

pretty good. I think I need a life coach. You're so right some titles are hit or miss. One of my new acquisitions Prisoner In Disguise by Linda Ronstadt from Mobile Fidelity really let me down soundwise. A premium priced album (and a great one regarding the music) but failed the listening test. Sounds like you might have a collectors item with the new Regina Spektor album. The name sounds familiar with one I recently purchased. Ronnie Spector's English Heart signed by Mrs. Spector. Not a bad album. I'll have to research Regina. |

Diana K's replacement album arrived today. The cover wasn't damaged but the vinyl inside had too many little scratches. But where there's not scratches it sounds like vinyl should. I've watched some of those videos about vinyl being made. I have many of the Jack White records. The only thing I hate is his choice of record pressing plants. If you look in the dead wax area and see a circled U that's a bad sign. United Records - I loathe them. |
Quote:
Thanks for the tips on United.Too bad your D.K. album replacement is bad.Did United press Stevie's IYD and 24K vinyls. I'm to lazy to look.LOL |

I'll check on the 24K. |

At least not my copy. ______________________________ Cleaned 60+ vinyl records the past couple of days. Replaced the old paper sleeves with Mo- Fi sleeves. Still working on the static issue. Things seem a little better. Too many steps to list. |
Generally I could care less about the color of the vinyl, just the quality of it, but it seems to be a big selling point with a lot of people today.
Still waiting on that Gene Clark set, I guess the pressing plants are more backlogged than planned for. |

Wow .You got your work cut out for you.I need new sleeves here. Thanks for checking.I doubt much if she used different pressing plants for the album. Quote:
Yes .The quality is the key. Quote:
I love colored vinyl too.I would love to see Stevie's BD and Wildheart albums in purple. As long the sound quality does not suffer. |

the dead wax area. I guess I'm slipping. I suppose I could Google it. ________________________________________ Elvis Moody Blue This was my first colored vinyl. I believe it was released about a month before he died. And it was the first record I played after his death. And that was a hard thing to do. |

I got some reds and yellows and maybe green in the mass vinyl collection that I got from my neighbor down the street. I do have some picture disks here somewhere. |

Jack White's "Vault" (TMR) does the color vinyl with most every release. Only problem is that it's pressed from UNITED! But from what I understand he's opening up his own pressing plant in Detroit. I anxiously await. ______________________________________ Can anyone tell that I really love music??? |

Tonight at the Goodwill I picked up two 4 album sets of classic country music collections from the early 1970's.Great shape and a great price of $1.99 per set. |
Quote:
On those Country Sets do they have any Marty Robbins? He's one of my favorites too. |
Did anyone here preorder the Bella Donna or Wild Heart vinyl remasters? If so, I'd love to hear if there's anything notable about them once they arrive.

As I was at the local mall today.I stopped into FYE and see they have a vinyl Rumours there for $21.00 bucks.Maybe I should set up a popup shop at the Mohegan Sun casino early of the day of Stevie's show there with all my extra copies of my Stevie/FM vinyl.I probably would make a killing .

A few new vinyl albums I've picked up over the past week or so...
Stevie Nicks Wild Heart (2 copies, as one was damaged). Stevie Nicks Bella Donna I've only had a short amount of time to listen to side one of Wild Heart. Elvis Presley Showroom Internationale (2 LP set) Recorded August 12, 1970. The show hadn't been released in full until recently. Excellent cover shot. I'm really looking forward to a serious listening session with this one. |
This is the Elvis set I'm thinking seriously about now...
http://www.memphisrecordingservice.com/mrsms.htm The Gene Clark set is finally on it's way, supposedly upgraded to 200g vinyl from 180g which seems more than heavy enough. I'm not sure what those mid 70s RCA flexidisc things were, 60g? Those things was weird, flopped around then sprang back flat. |
Quote:
complaints are from mostly hypocrites who own many Elvis bootlegs and yet complain about these not being legitimate releases. I'm not sure the thicker vinyl makes for a better sounding record. For me the 180g is enough. More than that I start wondering about the height of the tonearm. I have many of those flexidisc. By the time I was old enough to buy records the industry had gone to that unfortunately. |
I think the Memphis Recording Service releases are properly licensed for sale in Europe at least, like the German Bear Family label releases. They do a great job in quality but they are pretty expensive items to import unfortunately.

___________________________________________ STEVIE NICKS BELLA DONNA Finally got a chance to do a serious listen to this late tonight. As with all my new vinyl I look at it carefully using a bright lamp to see if there are any imperfections in the vinyl. I saw no scratches or scuffs. As I'm listening to side one, I'm impressed. The vinyl is quiet. Much more so than many of my "new" records. I didn't compare it to my original copy as I have not cleaned it yet. But I did like the sound I heard. Then side two... PROBLEM Happy with my new vinyl copy until Leather and Lace. Some odd distorted crackling through much of the song. As I listened to the rest of the album I didn't notice any other problems of that sort. My hopes of a perfect album came crumbling down. Again with the lamp test, and still I couldn't see any marks on the vinyl. Curious to whether any of you have the same problem on side two?. |
I still have the original pressing of Bella Donna from when it first came out and after wearing out a cassette copy or two made it into the CD age without the need to get vinyl over again. Same for Mirage. There's been a real increase in demand for vinyl and I think fine details can get lost in the rush sometimes.

_____________________________ I purchased a Neoteck turntable stylus force gauge tester. At only $11.00 a very nice gadget for someone like me. Btw, I was soooo close on the recommended tracking weight. |
A few new records I picked up this week...
Roy Orbison The Ultimate Collection (Sony Legacy) What a fantastic collection of songs. A truly remarkable singer. I would recommend this set to anyone who loves music. Besides a few scratches on side A, the vinyl is one of the better sounding of all the new records I've purchased. At times it seemed Mr. O was sitting in the room with me. I've never heard Blue Bayou sound so good. Chill bumps. Elvis Presley Way Down In The Jungle Room (Sony Legacy) A nice selection of songs from the last sessions Elvis recorded at Graceland. A little salty language that surprised me was left on here as he's still working through the songs with his band. I've heard him use this type language before but not on a release for the general public. But he's in a good mood here and puts on some very good performances. Disproves some of the tall tales I'd always heard about these recording sessions. I have most of the outtakes already from these same sessions, but this set sounds very different from anything I've heard before. And except for a few scratches here and there the vinyl sounds good. Jack White Acoustic Recordings 1996 - 2016 Haven't got a chance to listen to the vinyl yet (I have the CD) but it looks like another quality job from United Record Pressing NOT! Even though I didn't see the circled "U" in the dead wax, it sure looked of URP. That doesn't guarantee a bad sounding record, but it doesn't bold well. I've been down this road with too many of their pressings. Will report back when I've had time to do a serious listen. |

On this past Wednesday I received two milk crates of albums from my friend down the street.Too bad there is no Stevie and Mac in this batch. Most were great R&B artists from the 60's,70's and 1980's like the Donna Summer,Patrice Rushen,Commodores,Minnie Riperton .Isaac Hayes.Chaka Khan and more. .Plus classic pop rock like Peter Frampton ,Beatles ,Chicago,Bruce Springsteen ,Barbra Streisand and more.Plus some classical and big band music like Glenn Miller 3 album set in almost mint condition. in the collection too.No Stevie , FM or Elvis in this batch.I'm surprise that he did not take the Beatles and the Glenn Miller 3 album set.
Also there was some press test records plus a couple of high school marching band albums from the 1960's. |
Skip you're one lucky guy. The only time anyone gives me vinyl
is at Christmas. I wish someone would make a decent quality 45 rpm record player like they did in the 50's and 60's. If I knew how to work on them I'd have one now. I think they're pretty cool. |
Well I hope Santa gives you what you wanted on vinyl on Christmas day.
The Glenn Miller album might be heading over my friend Joe's house .He's 97 years young and he should hear it.If I get to 97 .I would love to hear some Stevie and FM. I have those little toy record players here .I dont like the looks and the quality on those new ones in the stores. |
Quote:
Son House The Legendary Father Of The Folk Blues (Analog Productions 200g.) and Melody Gardot My One And Only Thrill I'm not talking about the "toy" record players. RCA and other companies made them. The ones that only play 45's. They were kind of expensive for their day. I don't think I'm explaining them very well. Can you fix any old record player? My best to Joe. Hope he enjoys the record. |
Picked up a new vinyl collection from the Guerssen label of unreleased '60s recordings by the Peanut Butter Conspiracy's Alan Brackett. I guess I'm into under-appreciated L.A. singer/songwriters lately.

Becca,
You always give me something to look up. |
