Neil's concert was probably in a small club where he is feeling things out. Its a great song I think he could do well. But it wont work with an arena packed of casual fans. But who knows on that one. I was the first one to say they would play it. Then reality set in ;) Steve - yes Mick is overly nice about Bob in his latest book. Its really sad how he rationalizes. I think its way of saying I'm sorry or something. On another note, I was thinking in the car today listening to the Mac channel. Oh Daddy is going to be impossible to play without Lindsey. His guitar playing is so original its not something that can be duplicated for the same effect of the song. Another thing I miss is Christine playing keyboards. I don't think she can do it anymore. I was listening to Rhiannon live 1976 and Don't Let Me Down Again and boy she is just playing mad keyboards on those songs. Its not impossible they pipe in some sound effects on some of these songs like the Buck/Vie tour. |

I'm not sure how FM would be profiting from singing a couple of Bob's songs live, but I could see Bob's estate profiting, another reason I hope they do Hypnotized and or Sentimental Lady. Macfan4life, have you reconsidered whether to see them live this tour? Although I haven't bought tickets yet, I'm pretty sure I'm going. After learning more about Neil and Mike, I'm actually excited to see this version of FM live, whether it lasts or not. |
Isn’t Bobs wife dead now too?

You Making Loving Fun was a big hit at the Sydney show for OWTS tour in 2015. My wish list for the tour I'll be travelling to Sacramento to see: 1. The Chain (will be sad without Lindsey but has to be done if they are to present a united front) 2. You Make Loving Fun 3. I Don't Want to Know (again, sacrilege without Lindsey but they could pull it off) 4. Dreams 5. Don't Dream It's Over 6. Oh Well 7. Station Man 8. Say You Will 9. Isn't it Midnight 10. Little Lies 11. Sisters of the Moon 12. Angel 13. Albatross 14. The Green Manalishi 15. Gold Dust Woman 16. Say You Love Me 17. New Stevie song (never gonna happen, but this is a wish list) 18. New Christine song (could be from BuckVie - eg Red Sun) 19. Second Hand News (not sure about this but could work) 20. Stop Dragging My Heart Around Encores 21. Get Like You Used To Be 22. Don't Stop 23. Silver Springs 24. Songbird |

I'd like to hear Sara this time around. From what I have seen on YouTube it transfers well onstage.

Oh, I think there's every chance of both Man of the World and Hypnotized. I think he was just unable to choose between the two of them. There was a time when Bobs songs would never have been played. Now Mick has made it clear he wants to celebrate the full history of the band. It'd be easier for them to play Bob's songs now Wendy is also no longer with us. |

I think they are aware that Christine's voice is not what it used to be on Rumours, and they were considering some alternatives for her. She will probably have some backup vocal support live.
Neil Finn's voice is still very good. When Paul Kelly did a show with him, he joked that it was good to have Neil with him 'because he can hit all the really high notes!' (Kelly is also a great songwriter, but his vocal range is in the limited category like Dylan or Petty and he knows it.) I'm tryna stay out of this but am wondering, what if they project some of the old pictures of Fleetwood Mac Peter Green era etc while doing some of those songs? Like pictures from the book 'Love That Burns' and a few clips? (If that doesn't seem too much like the kind of thing they do when someone dies...) Peter Green has said that 'Man Of The World' is the song that represents him the most. |

HOWEVER, if the set list is interesting then who knows. I also scored fantastic seats for Stevie's 24K Gold concert months after they went on sale. A month or so before the concert the side stage opened up and I got second row. Got to see Mathew with Stevie's dogs during intermission. I could also see Stevie backstage before the lights went out and curtain went up. So I will pass for now. If an interesting set list comes up and good seats at reasonable prices happen then maybe. I really hate guessing at songs because I think most everyone's guess is horrible. Its dumb to play Stop Draggin My Heart Around or I Need To know. That's a Stevie solo concert. IF you really want to tribute Tom then do something different that is not affiliated with Stevie's solo shows. How about Insider or Needles and Pins. It would not happen but even I will run to you or Imperial Hotel would be ok. I suspect a very traditional Mac setlist with 4 songs added (Don't dream its over, Oh Well, another Mac classic, and one Petty tribute). And that does not excite me that much. |

I think there will be more than 4 songs added because Lindsey usually played what, 7 or 8 songs? So even if they play the 4 you mentioned, that still leaves room for at least 4 more songs that will have to be added. |

Neil did 'Man Of The World' with Mike at the gig recently and apparently it went well. So I'd say he can pull it off. They could just add some interesting visuals and it could be great. The interesting thing is how they tell this story and show this line of progression, integrating it all together. And presenting it to the breed of fans not totally familiar with it, who have been mainly exposed to the Rumours line up. Which is what I started with.
(I was an 80s and 90s kid. But I became aware of the Peter Green era after seeing a documentary about Mick on TV, and some of the songs were familiar, I just didn't realise where they originated from. Once the penny dropped, I was nearly falling over myself! Doh!) But it's still a long way to go, at this point theorising and guessing what they'll be doing. |
It's impossible to replace Lindsey, but I'm looking forward to seeing the new lineup and hear them explore some older songs that have been hibernating for many years.
I saw Neil Finn's recent performance at Largo where Mike Campbell came out to play a couple of songs including "Man of The World". Sounded great! In particular, I'm hoping to hear "Dust", "Green Manalishi", "The Way I Feel", "Why", "Storms", "Oh Daddy", "Sisters of The Moon", and "Planets of The Universe". |
1. Think About Me
2. The Chain 3. Dreams 4. You Make Loving Fun 5. Oh Well 6. Rhiannon 7. Everywhere 8. Rattlesnake Shake 9. Smile At You (piano demo style) 10. Believe Me 11. World Keep on Turning 12. Landslide 13. Oh Daddy 14. Don’t Dream it’s Over 15. Refugee 16. Little Lies 17. Gold Dust Woman 18. Green Manalishi 19. Don’t Stop Encore 1 20. Get Like You Used To Be 21. Blue Letter 22. World Turning Encore 2 23. Sisters of the Moon (kicked up a notch like gold dust woman of late please) 24. Why And I’m actually even incredibly excited to just hear what Rhiannon will sound with a newly formed band. Not blaming Lindsey at all, because the song was stale in many different live versions including solo, but she has a tendency to breathe new life into a song when inspired by people like Dave grohl, Tom Petty and others being onstage with her. Maybe Mike Campbell will bring back the Rhiannon guitar solo and Stevie wouldn’t fight him on that like she would Lindsey. |
Would love to hear Neil's epic song "Fingers of Love" with Stevie/Christine on harmony vocals and Mike Campbell on the incredible guitar solo in the song's second half ...

Surely you jest? Hate to burst your bubble, but I don't think they're dropping GYOW from the set. You may get "Stand Back" though. |

But jwd, I didn't see your list. C'mon, what do you think they're going to perform? Is there anything FM could perform that would tempt you into seeing them? Just curious. |

Here they are jamming together in Maui. I think that the girls will stay on the left together. Neil and Mike will be on right but Mike will probably move around a bit between Stevie, Neil and the rhythm section. I think GYOW can stay in the set. This band have never hidden their drama. They wear it on their sleeve. It's also a crowd favourite that everyone sings along to. I like scruffy Neil but for these shows, maybe he will spruce up a little. (Stevie will probably give him a few tips!) ETA: Ty for posting the film of Neil talking about his songwriting process here. I will watch it in full later and share my thoughts. As I've said previously, I believe he is one of the best songwriters of all time from southern hemisphere. http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showthread.php?t=57931 https://s9.postimg.cc/sb1p0m2e7/027.jpg |
As has been noted, Lindsey cannot be replaced. But I am hoping the band uses this as a chance to do some career showcase/retrospective of their earlier work, which would be very worthwhile. And I think there's a possibility of new material being produced down the line. Sad that Lindsey won't be there but I am sure the quality of these shows will be very good with the first rate talent involved. And we'll see where it goes from there.

For me, I think it's best to think of this as a "new band" as I expect the setlist and sound to be very different. I hope they dig deep into the Danny Kirwan and Bob Welch pool of songs as there are some gems there than should sound sweet with Mike and Neil. Danny's song "Dust", in particular", sounds like it could have been written by Neil. Danny (and Bob Welch to a lesser extent) had a very similar songwriting style to Neil with sweet melodies, introspective lyrics, and spacious musical textures. I was just listening to Danny Kirwan's Fleetwood Mac song "Dust" and then Neil's song "Edible Flowers' (co-write with his brother Tim) and marveling at the beauty of the two songs and how they seem to have arisen from the same songwriting well. See below ... |

For me, as Missy has said, I would hope that FM delves heavily into all their previous work on this tour. Songs from Peter Green, Danny Kirwan, and Bob Welch. Making it a true retrospective into what was EVER FM. THAT would be appropriate and somewhat makeup for the fiasco that has taken place recently. An all encompassing FM setlist would get me there! And that would be a hard list of songs to whittle down! I still do so very much love FM and all those fabulous songs they've given us. That is something I will never get bitter on. |

Back to Crystal- I love hearing Lindsey sing those ethereal lyrics, he really gives the words gravitas that otherwise would have been lacking. I loved that song for years before I ever realized Stevie was the one who wrote it, and I was stunned. There was a femininity to the song, so since Lindsey sang it, I thought he wrote it, and I was like, "man, this guy understands the female mind!" Such a beautiful, simple song, and would have been incredible in an acoustic set with Landslide and Brown Eyes. But I can also see why Lindsey might have rather sang a song he had written instead. That's why I think it would be fine for Neil to sing Crystal, because there's no way in the world Lindsey would again, and I understand why. |
A short clip of Mick speaking on SiriusXM about the upcoming tour. It does sound like they'll be departing from the usual and are looking at material from full 50 year history.

I think much of the show will still be what folks expect to hear from FM. It will still be recognizable as FM, but some delving and drawing attention to their earlier history and off the beaten path. The numbers that have been getting quite tired recently - give them a rest or try to freshen them, explore another side of the song. That is something Neil is quite good at, while respecting the original work.
17 studio albums to choose from, many possibilities available. Thinking that 'Hypnotized' is a strong bet. There's an eerie and ethereal quality to it that is reminiscent to me of some Enz work. |

Also, among the old stuff, I'm hoping for: For Mike Campbell to show off ... Green Manalishi Oh Well For Neil Finn to take lead vocals ... Hypnotized Dust Man of The World For Christine to take lead: Heart of Stone Spare Me A Little Come A Little Bit Closer For Stevie (from Rumours/Tusk era): Planets of The Universe Sisters of The Moon Storms Beautiful Child |
Man of the World or Hypnotised?
Apologies if this has been picked up, Neil Finn was asked the above on twitter and replied "we've tried both"
https://twitter.com/NeilFinn?ref_src....com%2Fnews%2F Very interesting. I wonder if it was in relation to the gig he did with Campbell when he performed MotW. Perhaps it was when they did their initial rehearsal in Hawaii? |

Replace come a little bit closer with why and I’d definitely call that a perfect wishlist. And planets of the universe will be just be Stevie singing with Christine at the piano right? |
