In the same day on 3 different radio stations last week I heard Magnet & Steel, Edge of 17 and Trouble.

So I've been staying in my friend's "college" apartment for the past week, sitting his dog. The kid in the apartment above me has been BLASTING Edge of 17 for the past half hour. Did kids in 1981 blast music from 1937?

I kind of did.

I remember in the mid 70s I was a kid and we liked to dance twist songs at parties. But twist was like 15 years old at that moment. Oh, Rock Around the Clock (1952), too. But just at parties. We didn't use to listen oldies at home.

1937? Really? Honestly, I've never even been much of a fan of the 1960s!

I remember in the late 80's, my cousin and I listening to Elvis quite a bit. Remember Robert Plant's Honeydrippers project? We played the hell out of that.

I was really close with my grandparents.

What I did like was watching documentaries of old music and movies. I guess it started with That's Entertainment!, a 1974 compilation MGM films plust the studio history. My parents took me to the cinema and I liked it very much. It started my hobby for Hollywood history.

And about music, it started with Heroes of Rock'n'Roll, hosted by Jeff Bridges (1979). It includes a band that would became my favorite 3 years later.

Once I embraced country music(when Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and the like came along, rock was no longer for me. I need melody and harmony- see Eagles and FM), I began to embrace really old music. A favorite would be Bob Wills music from the 1930s and 40s. Truly joyous music.

Pearl Jam released a new album and I couldn't get thru 3 songs. It all sounds the same to me. Generic Rock. Like those white generic labels at the market back in the 80's.

Yep. And I bought all those albums, and really TRIED to like it. Nope.

so boring.

So I'm at my Sunday happy hour bar, where I play about 2 hours worth of music on the jukebox. My signature last two songs are Rhiannon, then Tusk as the finale(where my friends have been trained to mumble "real savage like" at the appropriate spot....). My two hour playlist finally ends, and what had the next person played, at least two hours ago?
