It's written in an Indian language called 'Tamil', spoken by millions in the south of India as well as in Sri Lanka. It is a Hindu mantra, pronounced simply as:

"Aum, Nama Shivaya"

It's a devotion, to the name of God. In this case, it is God in the form of Shiva, one of the three deities that forms the Hindu trinity (Brahma is the creator, Vishnu the sustainer, and Shiva the destroyer- but destruction in a good and natural sense, as only with destruction can new Creation occur).

Well, here the Wiki on it, if anyone interested.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aum_Namah_Shivaya

Oh, and here is a little lesson for you kids out there: when you meet someone you fall in love and they are Hindu and you think it's gonna last forever, don't commerate it with a tattoo. Cause when you break up, you've got a souvenier for eternity.

shouldn't that kinda go for anyone? at least when they are Hindu, other people can't tell what the tat is.

Absolutely. Regardless if they are a Hindu who you think is really cool because he's from another country and speaks a cool little-known language and has a nice car and yeah he's a few years older but so what he's good looking and hey there's nothing else out there and who cares that was like his 4th drink in one hour.

Oh, sorry. That all just sort of slipped out..

At any rate, my tat is still there and I'm quite alone. But, it is an interesting conversation piece and no one knows what it is unless they can read Tamil. So, I could say it's Swahili and means "Mama say mama sah ma-ma koo sah".
Who'd know?

I like it, Victoria.

This is my step-daughter (ex-husband's daughter) and me earlier today. She's pregnant, so that means I'm going to be a grandmother- LOL. My husband and I are adopting this year, so I'll be a g-mother before I become a mother. Heh. At least if I buy her nice things for the baby she can hand them down to me, right?

Ho****! I used to have that same TV you have! A lightning bolt fried it during an electrical storm, but otherwise it was quite good.

Ha- that's my step-daughter's house. I would never be able to live with that paneling, David. :|

I had that same exact paneling in the first apartment I ever had with whatshisname. What I did was get some brown colored shellac (its a one-step thing for quickie furniture makeovers) and used a wide stiff bristled paintbrush. Using up and down strokes on the semi-dry brush, I made the most amazing faux-wood paneling effect. It looked sooooo cool. That was my one and only Stevie-inspired room. Dark woods, Persian rugs, shawls, candles. Sigh..

p.s you both are gorgeous. best of luck with the little ones.

Thank you- that's sweet.

I think I've seen painted paneling that I thought looked nice. Your Stevie-inspired room sounds fabulous.

Thanks. And sadly, no photos to document it. I do recall it was a bummer to dust, though.

I was inspired at the same time by Marie, Queen of Roumania. Her castles were legendary in their hodge-podge, eclectic style of rugs and candles, statues and potted lilies (go ahead Lily...), chunky dark wood furniture and Art-Nouveau carved panels and lamps.

Why wasn't I born so rich...

Wow, congratulations! I grew up with two aunts and an uncle around my age. It will be good for the kids. I am the oldest grandkid so my aunts and uncle were like cousins. I didn't have an actual cousin until I was 10.

Color. My husband is a hairdresser and he was recently trained on a new product that immediately strips all artificial color out of your hair. We're planning on doing that and then finding a color that most matches my natural color. If we can see through all the gray, that is.

It's good to see ledgies, to be able to put faces to names & personalities. It tightens our online community.

Thanks Michelle. That was my first time at the St Patty's parade in Southie. Well except for when I was 3 and 4, dad just told me I was there, but I don't remember. We went back to Kristin's for beer and bathroom and never made it back out. It was pretty cold here on Sun!
