Fire still burning but in a while she'll make it rain

I had the same old dream she was hiding outside my door
She used to come from time to time but not anymore

Still...in my mind...
Still...in my mind...

It wouldn't make any difference
We crossed the line
From the fire we will rise again
In our own time

Seasons turning but in a while she'll make it snow
This time I think she's gone for good but I never really know
Nothing here remains just the vision of her face
The implication of a crime it always takes her place

Still...in my mind....

This song reminds me of the Greek goddess Persephone. The story goes that her mother's mourning of her being taken to the underworld by Hades and made Queen over it is what caused the seasons to change. Persephone would come back for visits and her mother would be happy (spring, summer, fall) and then when she would leave again her mother would be sad (winter). There was a deal where she could leave if she had not eaten anything in Hades but she had either been tempted or tricked to eat pomegranate seeds or willingly ate them. Seeds we sow, indeed... tying the phoenix into the lyrics is clever.

Interesting. Putting the power of the seasons in the person's hands is certainly an effective way to describe the magnitude they possess. I was impressed by that lyric from the start.

Straight Back always reminded me of Icarus and the wings Daedalus made for him.

I don't necessarily trust the liner notes. For Gone Too Far, it says "silencer answers your call." Silencer on a gun? Suicide?

I actually think the words are "silence surf."

Listening to When She Comes Down today and how the jarring "falling" changes the whole mood of the song that came before that line, I kind of think that she's coming down from a mental high. There's almost frantic happy activity and then she falls . . . or crashes emotionally.

The people (we'll all) that come to meet her know from experience that everything that goes up must come down. So, when they see her elated, they know that the mood will inevitably descend and they'll all come to meet her, be there for her, when she comes down. Michele

Or a drug high.
