I just tried and couldn't get in to www.bobweston.co.uk so I wonder two things, either:

1. The site is no longer to exist (which I hope is NOT the case or what I hope IS the case which is...)

2. There is FINALLY to be some updates there! :)

I know Steve Fairhead said things were moving slowly for them there but the things I hear they were working on (or hoping to work on) I was really looking forward to so does anyone know? Anyone have SF's e mail address? I knew I should've written it down last time I was there, damn.

The site could be just temporarily down-- I'm getting a DNS error when I try to load it. I saw it a few days ago and looked the same; the last update was a few years ago and was the removal of some of the Fin Costello photographs as it said room was being made for more.

Hi,
I have just been looking at Bob Weston's site which does not seem to have been updated since the 25 August 2001.What I had not seen before was the FM group photo taken outside Benifolds with Mick's daughter Amy.Lets hope Bob updates the site soon with news of new music to come.

Happy Easter

Hi folks,

Sorry about the lack of updates. Bob has mainly been up in London doing TV/radio work again, and continuing work on a new CD. We're still hopeful of releasing "There's a Heaven" somehow - if necessary, independently.

The DNS issue in April 2003 was a rare glitch with the hosting servers - belated apologies for the inconvenience ;).

Thanks Steve, looking forward to whatever is in store. :)

Hopefully "Night light" & "Studio picks" can be sold on CD there soon too (nudge, nudge) (jangles money in pocket). :)

We looked into these a few years ago; back then it didn't look too hopeful. As is often the case, the copyright issues are complex - it's been a long time, people have moved on, the paperwork etc is gathering dust somewhere, and the demand is probably not significant enough to merit the time and investment required to re-release them. However, we haven't given up hope ;).

OK good. :)

In the meantime, do you know where I can get vinyl copies of those albums? Naturally I've been checking GEMM, ebay, etc. on a daily basis for years and never been able to find them. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks in advamce. :)

What are ya gettin' at, John?

Are you betting that Bob has a box or two of his LP's gatherin' dust in the attic? (I know *I* would!)

Well, I think it was Steve Fairhead that gave the info to Marty for the Penguin discography entries for those 2 albums in the first place so if nothing else, he must've found a dealer at some point in time that had them (unlike me) and therefore I thought he might be able to steer me in a direction I had not previously gone in regarding this search. Longshot I know, but cover the base. :)

John

Bob came round with his own vinyl copies of the albums. I grabbed the discographic details from them.

It's been a while since I asked Bob about this. I'll see what I can find out.

Ok - Bob basically confirms what I've already said - the label these were recorded on (AZ Records, Paris - IIRC) is long gone, the rights etc are hard to trace, and there's little commercial interest in doing anything with them.

However: neither of us knew about the re-release of The Kinetic on Magic Records until I saw it here ;). However the licensing is a bit easier to trace in this case (originally on Vogue Disques, again of Paris). A label such as Magic Records, who specialise in such things, has the capacity to surprise us ;).

Hope this helps, if only a little...

Hmm, so do you think there is anything we can do to convince Magic to license NL & SP for CD release?

It sure would be great for those of us here that are interested in these recordings to get them as it's not like they're just guest appearances, Bob actually leads the way on these like he did on "There's a heaven" which I, and I know others here, LOVE! :)

So let us know if you think we should e mail them expressing interest or whatever, but perhaps things might be helped along if either you or Bob contacted them about this directly? Just an idea (I'm still trying to get my head around all this legal red tape on the rights/licensing issues). :)

Whoa ;). I'm talking to Magic; first of all I need to understand why they released The Kinetic. If they figure there's a market for that, then *maybe* they'll be interested in the others. We'll see. I'll keep you informed.

All the 50 or so extant copies of Heaven were burned and printed by my fair hand. If you have one, is it signed? Have you submitted a review? All those reviews have been tremendously helpful in touting this CD around. (Marty: if you read this, please get in touch - the address I have for you seems not to work.)

I'm delighted you like it. We're currently having another stab at getting it released properly, by which I mean via a company with enough clout to market it properly in the US. If all else fails, I'll release it myself - but that seems a shame. We're a tiny company in the overall scheme of things.

As I've said, I'm talking to Magic. I'm impressed by the response I'm getting from then, frankly. Give me a while to work this one through...

Thanks for the support. It's reading this kind of feedback that keeps me motivated to keep plugging.

Best,

Steve

OK Steve, thanks, and yeah, my copy is signed, I bought it here a few years ago and I wrote a review for it here at the Penguin discography as well. :)
