Something popped into my head just now and I wanted to discuss it with anyone who wants to respond. I remember an article I read a few years ago about particular songs that Stevie has given legal owning rights to other people. I think she gave her mom Silver Springs or something anyway. Does anyone have any fact behind this or some comment on the topic? I thought it would be a nice change of pace and get us away from talking about Macfan's problem on certain message boards....The topic is really frustrating to me

I know for a fact that she gave Silver Springs to her mother because it was a birthday or Christmas gift. Stevie knew that her mother wouldn't accept money, so she figured she'd give her mom all royalties that Silver Springs produced. Then she freaked out because it wasn't even released, so it was like this dead gift. I believe I read this at sararhiannon.com, but it might have been somewhere else.
Also, I read there that Stevie gave half of Stand Back to Prince because it was inspired by Little Red Corvette, and I guess because he came to the studio to help them record it.

well i am sure there are tons of songs that stevie has recorded that have rights belonging to others, herself included, but i figured iwould just give you an over view of what that means, incase anyone out there doesn't know. Basically when a person or multiple persons write a song they all recieve credit for it. According to publishing rights, when those writers have gained copyrights to the song they will recieve money for any use.
When a song is recorded on an album or a single the writers and copyright holders automatically recieve 50% of the money off that album. So in the case of a FM album, stevie, chrissy and LB automatically get 50% of the royalties (divided between them by # of songs that they own onit). After that 50% is taken then the rest of the moneys are used to pay back the record label, attorneys, producers, band, etc.
Also when a song is performed by another band, recorded by another band, sheet music is sold, etc, the writers/copy right holders recieve a decided upon profit from that. As in the case of landslide, Stevie is making bank off the Dixie Chicks for the number of times it is being played on radio and tv and the number of albums being sold by them. She gets a piece of it all.
Anyhow...techinally Barbara did get some moeny off of Silver Springs, from the money made by sales of the singlw (b side of GYOW, i believe) as well as money made of the sale of sheet music and any radio play that some satation were giving it. And off course she made a lot more of the Dance version with the money from the sale of the album and the video and the radio play.
So all in all...if youever want to make a living in the music industry...write one good song, by yourself, and get someone famous to sing it amd make it a hit...you can retire of the profits and live a very comfortable life off it!

Hence why Mick has had money problems.
Seems John must have more mundane tastes, a boat or two don't cost too much ;) ;)
