Firstly, you should be very cautious of the person who actually has the imagination to come up with the concept of "baby eating"...they obviously need to get their head checked, quickly.
Secondly, Pip said it perfectly.

I don't know, but someone told me to burn my FM cds, because I've been brainwashed by Stevie and Mick.
I'm not really sure where it came from.

I'm not really sure where it came from. When that has happened in the past, it's usually been a fundamentalist Christian group of some sort. You know the type -- they literally burn albums. I think all those fumes from the melting vinyl have seriously upset their equilibrium.

Sounds just so familiar...like back in 1966...the whole "Beatles are bigger than Jesus" fiasco that had people burning Beatles albums. I can safely say that 90% of those people are regretting doing that considering today's market value of original Beatle LP pressings.
And, just look where "religious fundamentalism" got the Taliban! Like Pete Townshend said, "Too much of anything, is too much for me"

this is such an old issue that crops up every once in awhile...
the real question is "MacFan, why do you listen to these people and give any credence to their opinions or any your mind time (thinking time) at all?"
in fact you have alot of questions to ask yourself...
"do YOU like the band?? do YOU think they're evil? do YOU feel Anyone is controlling you/brainwashing you or wants to?? do YOU have your own mind even if it means not going along with the crowd??"
answer these questions honestly for yourself and then other peoples opinions will no longer affect you and you will be truly exercising you God-given "free will"...
btw, we have quite a few pagans online here on the board including myself and I have not met one "evil" person yet however I have met many manipulative not-nice and even truly evil in real life who claim to be quite religious...

It's true...the people I trust least in my life are the ones that are (or present the image) of being SO overly religious...most of the time they do things that don't at all reflect that...
Anyway...I can't even tell you how many times people tell me, "oh...you like Stevie NIcks? She's a witch you know." AHHHHH!!!!
I'm so tired of it...BUT...it's a fact of a Stevie fan's life lol...just take it all with a grain of salt.
I find it amusing the things people deem "evil" a town one hour from mine had a Harry Potter book burning a while back..they actually burned books! crazyness....

I try not to listen to these people, but it comes up an awful lot. It's things like 'Who's better, Fleetwood Mac or Step?'
The person that posted that topic said 'Step are better, because Stevie Nicks is a baby eating witch and lives in trees.'
I try not to go along with what everyone says, but the subject of Stevie being a witch, comes up far too much. And when I try and explain that Stevie's not a witch, I get banned for it.
Loads of people are actually brainwashing me with lies. It's not Stevie and Mick brainwashing me, it's everyone who thinks that Stevie's a witch, Satan wrote all of their songs and some other cr@p about the other members.

This Stevie is a witch subject really irritates me. I have heard this many times before. It bothers me because there are people that actually believe this lie and won't listen to her or Fleetwood Mac because of it.
My own cousin, who is very religous, heard this rumour from her co-workers. These people are supposed Stevie fans and Devil Worshipers. They told her that there was a bar in Texas that is frequented by Witches & Devil Worshipers & Stevie had been seen there. My cousin called me at work to warn me not to listen to her music anymore.
This angers me because my cousin was a casual Stevie listener & now she has concerns about her music.
I told her it was nonsense & to remember that these same people filed a complaint against her for reading the Bible during lunch. They claimed that the Bible was offensive to their beliefs.
I guess there are a lot of crazy & delusional people in this world.

There's just an awful lot of people in this world who can't think for themselves so they believe everything that "they", whoever this elusive "they" are, say.
Sounds like these folks need to open their minds and maybe they would acquire a brain cell or two and learn to form a real opinion.
What dank jail cell of a parent's basement did these folks crawl out of, anyway?

Deanna, that was too scary to read about those bookburnings...but not surprising, just look at the news and see what Falwell, Swaggart and their cronies are saying about Islam...people really should just keep their opinions to themselves sometimes...

This boggles my mind. I believe it is healthy for people to have an opinion but the type of people who stuff their beliefs and thoughts down other peoples throats are poor pathetic fools. What makes what they believe superior to others? Nothing. In fact it makes their beliefs seem dumb. The people who are badgering you MacFan should be ignored. Don't get all upset with them, they just want to get a rise out of you. Be superior, don't let it affect you.

That's right! And what's worse is people who base their opinions on such lame foundations.
There are a few people on this board who are not very big fans of Stevie's, and a few more who particularly don't care for her at all, but at least most of those people can give an intelligent reason as to why they aren't fans. If you are going to avoid the work of any type of artist, that is certainly fine............
...........just have a half-decent reason for your actions. Just saying it's not your taste or you really don't like it is more intelligent than spouting that kind of verbal diarrhea.
That type of reasoning is for a$$hats and f*@ktards.

Mac Fan, in my very humble opinion, I think it wouldn't be such a bad idea if you didn't visit this board that you're talking about ever again. It's one thing people expressing extreme views about particular subjects, but "getting banned" for trying to explain that "Stevie Nicks is not a witch" makes me wonder about the mental health of the administrators/moderators of the board. The same moderators obviously seem to be ok with people posting that "Satan wrote all the Fleetwood Mac songs", which is possibly the stupidest thing I have ever heard in my entire life, to the point where I actually cracked up laughing when I read it, and again confirms for me that they've obviously got at least a few thousand screws lose...
Take care,

You're saying something similar to what someone else said, FM can't be compared to Steps, because they both do different types of music, and therefore you can't compare them.

This is one of those topics that just infuriates me!!! I don't understand where people get these things! I guess it is because she wrote and sang one song about a witch, of course the song, Rhiannon. It is insane to say that because of this song that she is a witch. That would be like saying because I wrote a song or sing a song about drugs, I'm a drug addict! It is just silly. In no way does Stevie or the band exhibit behaviors that suggest they are devil worshipers! These people that you speak of need to research Fleetwood Mac and their music, before they make comments about them. Education is the best weapon! They desperately need some! If they did learn about them for real and didn't go by hear-say, they would know this is just crazy to the very core!

One person also said that every time you buy a FM album, one child gets eaten by Stevie.

They know all of this stuff about Stevie being a witch isn't true. For some strange reason, they only started all these rumours, when I'd only just become a fan.
The thing is, I can't actually prove that Stevie isn't a witch, but I have mentioned a few times, that in an interview, she denied it.
The people that say those kind of things, are making nearly everyone else believe it. What makes it harder, is that fact that all of these people that are telling these rumours, are in their 20s.
I think that's sad. It wouldn't be so bad if my sister said those kind of things, because she's only 11. I'd expect her to say that kind of thing, but I don't expect people that are older than me to say that type of thing, especially when they know it's not true.
wondergirl9847
11-22-2002, 06:26 PM
People say these things because they are ignorant. They don't do their research, they only listen to rumours and lies and pass judgment based on that. I have to admit, when I was a kid, I thought she was a witch too, because I was TOLD that. Now that I'm older, I can think for myself and make my own decisions. Wasn't Stevie raised Catholic, she probably holds some of those beliefs still...I'm sure she believes in God and talks to Him in her own way...she is a very spiritual person.

I'm sorry for your bad experiences. However, I just want everyone to remember that:
a) these people haven't claimed to be of any religious affiliation; for all we know they are "pagans" too. Frankly, they sound too young and stupid to have made any informed religious decisions.
b) I haven't met any evil faux religious people from the board either, but even if I had, I certainly wouldn't take their claims of religion seriously. They are definitely not reflective of Christianity as a whole, no more than Osama Bin Laden is reflective of Islam. And, sadly, I believe in "real life" it is also possible to find some folks who are "pagan" and not so nice. It is an unfortunate fact of life that evil can find a place in every imaginable categorization of people. So why give people labels like that?
Finally, I've never heard anyone with half a brain, religious or not, claim that Stevie eats babies!! These folks obviously are not the sharpest pencils in the box, to put it mildly. Why springboard off of them to criticize others?

Eh, those kinds of things just come with the territory when you're a Stevie and/or Fleetwood Mac fan.
Personally, when someone says something about Stevie being a witch (or a "coke-head," or whatever else), i just smile, and in a "couldn't care less" kinda voice, I say, "How nice for her!"
:D
That stops them dead in their tracks, because it wasn't the reaction they were hoping for.

Here's what I think,
Unfortunately this world is populated by a small minority of bigots both religous and otherwise that brainwash an awful lot of people into adopting their thinking.
Your own life is based on the people you work and live with, those you love and those you don't and those you interact with.
Everyone has an opinion, as long as you can justify your own opinion with fact or reason, no matter how outrageous then the majority of balanced people will respect it, whether they like it or not. If it is full of nonsense and lies then it is based on either jealousy, contempt or lack of knowledge and all you will get is bitter and twisted.
On the subject of religion, my opinion is that every religion is the same and completely different (I know it sounds silly but just think about it). Most religions are based on faith not fact and the only moment the majority of people will find out the truth, maybe, is when they die.
My own views are different than any given religion and again maybe one day I'll find out the truth as well.
In the meantime, I respect people for the person they are and for the interaction I have with them, religion has nothing to do with my views of an individual. As long as we respect people for what they do and not what they are we will all get along fine.... In an ideal world.
Anybody that gets the chance, listen to the title track of the late, great George Harrison's new album, Brainwashed. Truer words were never spoken.
Sorry for the rant, didn't mean to offend anybody!

Wicca and WitchCraft are legitimate religions and have been for some time. They don't involve anything Satanic...they don't even believe in Satan or hell. They're very peaceful.
There's no proof that Stevie practices any of them...and if she did, who cares? Is she hurting anyone?

Hi Nancy, just a quickie comment...believe me, I was in no way putting down any particular religion, in fact, I deliberately only said people who consider themselves "religious" and thus use the cloak of religion to justify their own hateful attitudes. I specifically refrained from mentioning any particular religion...
and you are quite about this, "And, sadly, I believe in "real life" it is also possible to find some folks who are "pagan" and not so nice. It is an unfortunate fact of life that evil can find a place in every imaginable categorization of people." and yet, my personal experience with paganism has been very fortunate and positive. But now that I think of it, it's probably because I've learned not to give negative hateful mean people any of my precious time and/or energy.
I have posted on many boards with lots of trolls over the years and you can never really get rid of these people. and MacFan, your letting yourself get sucked right down into that green envy hate muck by reposting all those negative things here. Each time, someone here tries to help you feel better and stronger as a MACFAN, you end up responding with a more heavily negatively charged, more outrageous statement from posters we've learned long ago to ignore...

Hi all,While I am certainly no fan of televangelists and others who feel that their religion is the only 'right one" and everyone else should beleive as they do.I think the individual who has this particular message about Stevie in their profile has some other psychological issues besides just religious zealotry.

i simply can't understand why people would not just simply dislike, but hate stevie or fm. it really makes no sense to me. an acquaintance of mine claims there is such a thing as objectively defined music- as in what's good and what's not good- and yet derides fm's music. i mean, it's a real hard case to say that stevie is not talented. so i think those people are just, well, delusional. haha.

p.s. this is my first post/reply in . . . i don't know, maybe nearly 1.5-2 years. i was surprised i still remembered my password. i used to be on here (when it was somewhere else) all the time back in the day...well, like late '97.

I actually don't think one of the people who said Stevie was a witch, was winding me up. This girl asked who Stevie was(I was bored, so I posted my CD collection on a message board)and someone said Stevie is an evil baby eating witch. the person who said this, says everyone knows it's true apart from me.

I frankly don't even know how someone can really take actual offense to a comment like that. I mean, was this Stevie's fab new weight loss plan? The other white meat? Or maybe she was the inspiration for the second Austin Powers flick? "Get in my belly!"
"Baby eating witch" you'd think someone would have reported her by now!

*agrees* I really don't the people who said this were just messing about(not saying that Stevie's a witch or anything like that), because they went on about it for ages, but it doesn't matter anymore, they finally stopped, after about 5/6 months.

Personally, I'm glad Stevie & the witch thing have gone hand in hand all these years. The Margaret Hamilton getup & swoozy vocalizing helped lend Fleetwood Mac a whole new level of allure for concertgoers.
It's just another one of the numerous ingredients that made Fleetwood Mac rock royalty in the United States, Australia & Japan all those years ago.

LMAO
I agree with David...the "witch" rumor was/is good for the Fleetwood Mac/Stevie mystique. Isn't it true that ANY publicity is GOOD publicity?
Mac Fan I guess that your chatroom friends even knew who she was was a sign that Stevie is not one of those classic rockers that time has forgotten. She's still very high profile in a lot of circles these days.

I think you're right. I did ask a question a while ago(don't know what it was, but I've found the answer) and someone said something about Satan writing all of FM's songs.

Well, we all know that "Santa" is an anagram for "Satan", right?
or is it vice versa?
Both wear red, both try to get on our "good" side...would you sell your soul to Santa? Bet you already have..
Just interesting tidbits for thought.

Actually, she cut down from one baby per album to one per month. That is how she is keeping her figure these days. ;)
Mac Fan, ignore these people. Who in their right mind would believe that someone as high-profile as Stevie, or anybody for that matter, would actually eat babies? They probably wouldn't be all that tasty anyway. ;)
Let's not take too much offense at this stuff, folks. After all, I believe the band sort of cultivated this mystical witch thing. I believe David made some very incisive comments to that point.
There have been unbelievable rumors surrounding this band all along. Recently I heard one about Christine that I won't even repeat on this board. Let's just say it was pretty outlandish.
