Yesterday, I finally got Enchanted. I've only heard the first cd and think it's amazing.
So whcih album should I get now?

Which others... if any... do you own?
If 'Enchanted' is the only release you have from Stevie's solo career, I would suggest 'Trouble In Shangri-La,' and 'The Wild Heart' next.
:)

why don't you start at the beginning with "Bella Donna" and work your way up to "TISL"....a sort of condensed time line if you will!

I was asking everyone, so your opinion does count.
Jonny Stew, I don't own any Stevie albums other than Enchanted.

why don't you just sit back and enjoy the rest of Enchanted, you still have two great discs to go plus much musing time over the pics, notes and lyrics in the book itself. I have been an FM/Stevie fan since the 70's and I just purchased FM Fleetwood Mac (the white album) after all these years...and it was great fun and it's been two months now and I haven't overplayed it yet. There are so many nuances in the lyrics and music of FM that you really ought to listen to a "new to you" album over and over again to get an appreciation of each piece. and Enchanted is a great place to start since it does a great job of chronicling Stevie's solo career plus has lots of fun pics and mysteries to figure out...

I agree with Bella. Enchanted is such a great compilation and there is so much of Stevie's life chronicled in it... you really need to just sit back and take it all in. However, my suggestion for your next purchase would be The Wild Heart and Trouble In Shangri-La.

I think it's useful & entertaining to hear Stevie's work in chronological order. There's something to be said for following a singer/songwriter's evolution through the constantly changing pop environment. I think that, if you can, you should absorb "Bella Donna" first, followed by "The Wild Heart" & "Rock a Little" & "Street Angel" & "Trouble in Shangri-La."
You might want to skip "The Other Side of the Mirror," which seems to me just a bunch of tired old production & arrangement ideas goin' to rejoin the Holy Ghost. It's got no true aural magic to it. Then again, other fans really dig it.

Thanks guys. I might get Bella Donna soon.

David, I can't believe you're saying skip OTOSM!!!:distress:
Stevie, herself, says this is her "magic album" and I have to agree...the albums style is the witchy airy fairy at her most magical...and let's face it, that image of Stevie is attractive to many of her devoted fans. so OTOSM while not for the average rock listener is a definite must-have to the ardent fan...
to me, it's like listening to a fairy tale...:blob1: (please note I picked the pink emoticon)
i actually DO like OSOTM myself (although i understand about the overproduction aspect). I can definately listen to this over "Street Angel" or even "Rock A Little"...I don't think i've even listened to the latter two all the way through. Or, maybe once or twice when i bought them.

Well I'm one who 'digs' the Other Side of the Mirror :)

I would also recommend starting with BD and going in order. There is a clear progression in Stevie's music (at least to me). Especially since her voice has changed so much over the years. The further along she went in her solo career the further she moved away from FM "sounding" songs (if that makes any sense).
I too, am a big OSOTM fan. Although RAL has some goodies, OSOTM is a better album as a whole. I also think that OML and ISMS have Lindsey written all over them (they are about him), which is interesting because I think they pretty much hated each when this album came out.
As far as BD and WH go, they can be some up in one word: AWESOME! :) :) :)

I would recommend going in order, too. For all the reasons listed above. That said, lol....count me in as one who loves OSOTM. lol, Adam...didn't sound stupid to me...I know exactly what you're talking about. I get a different feeling from it than I do when I listen to any of her other albums. More of an "escape" from reality? lol.
And no, she didn't *write* ISMS, but I think that any song she chooses to cover, she chooses for a reason. I know I would. (IF I could sing, which I canNOT, lol!) Maybe the song *fit*. And there's no denying those baby blues of Lindsey's, lol.

In my opinion, I think you first need to look at what you like about Stevie. If you like her basic pop/rock style with good lyrics, I'd go with Bella Donna and TISL. If you like a little edgier Stevie, I'd try Wild Heart or RAL. If you like her mysticism, magic making, and storytelling (as I do), I'd go with Other Side of the Mirror. I'd pick Street Angel last...I can't imagine too many people really getting into this album until they've become an absolute die hard fan of Stevie (although I'm sure it's happened). But that's what you need to do first I think -- figure out what you like best about Stevie. Just note that RAL is VERY 80's sounding, OSOTM is pretty mellow, Street Angel doesn't seem to flow very well, Wild Heart is kind of Bella Donna II. Bella Donna and TISL, imo, are the best all around albums with some slow songs, some high tempo songs, some mystic songs, some bitter songs, etc. Again, just think about what you like Stevie for most, because all the different albums tend to be liked by different people. I hope this helps.

I've already got that album. I love it.
Can you lot please not say that a certain Stevie album is rubbish please?
You're seriously putting my off getting OSOTM now. But I'll get it anyway.

It's all down to personal opinion. You will have to make your own mind up when you hear them. I love TOSOTM

MacFan, don't let our diversity in opinions turn you off to any one album...really in the end, if you are going to live up to your nickname, you'll get them all including Lindsey's/Cristine's solo stuff, pre-Rumours stuff (Peter Green, Bob Welch and Co) and if you become the truly devoted MAC FAN fan, Rick, and Billy and Becky's stuff...and it's all good...

You said you have Enchanted, but haven't listened to the other discs yet. Well, listen to them and note which songs you like the best and buy the album with most of those songs on it. Like everyone said, you're gonna buy them all eventually!
To hell with all of us, you've got "The Best of..." right there in your hands! You pick what YOU like! Then you can argue with us!

Since you already have Enchanted, which has samples from Bella Donna, Wild Heart, Rock A Little, OSOTM, and Street Angel....Just go for Trouble in Shangri-la...then you'd have a feel for what each album is like and then you pick and choose from the rest....Belive me, you will not be dissappointed with TISL, Bella Donna, and Wild Heart....

You can look at my signature for a great quote about this....
Johnny Cash actually wrote it... but I think she picked it to sing because of Lindsey.
