i'm so proud of myself!...
i had this homework in editing class, mixing a small audio file, not so surprisingly i ended up messing with stevie samples instead :D
i took stevie's poem reading of And The Children Go On, filtered it, sampled it and added playback music (by Morcheeba) on top of it. it fitted perfectly :D
i don't mean to brag, but it came out just BEAUTIFUL.
dear lord, this is my first try in sound editing, if that's my result i must be pretty talented at this i think.
i'd be happy to get your opinions (and be honest, if you don't like it it's okay) i made it into a 96kps/1.82mb file so it's deliverable by mail (not web based boxes such as hotmail, home mail boxes) anyone wanna give it a listen?

Thanks Tommer!! It sounds cool. What is the poem she is reading? I don't think it was written by her but has many lines she has used ..and in many ways describes how she talks about herself. Maybe to funk it up at the beginning before the music starts you could take a recording of her saying "this is a story about a Welsh witch..." , make it sound real echo-y or some cool effect..then have the music start and go into your mix!?

BTW, when/where is Stevie reading this?

Stevie read "The Children Go On," from her journals, on a British special that was filmed to promote 'The Other Side Of The Mirror.'

Unfortunately, I can't remember the title of the special, or the name of the host (hopefully David can help me out there!)... but it was pretty interesting, and also included a really great performance of "Doing The Best That I Can," with Stevie playing the piano, and Sharon and Lori providing backing vocals.
In my opinion, that little performance was ten times better than the album version (which is already one of my favorites, as it is).

Part of the recitation (the lines from "Your heroes are dying...." onward) was also used in a 1994 American special, titled 'D-Day Remembered.'
Stevie made an appearance, which was filmed at her Phoenix home, and talked about her respect and admiration for those who helped bring World War 2 to an end.
Then, as they showed some footage of Stevie (which was also originally filmed for the UK 'OSOTM' special), the end portion of "The Children Go On," can be heard in voice-over.

Unfortunately, I can't remember the title of the special, or the name of the host (hopefully David can help me out there!).The promotional vinyl was called "Reflections from the Other Side of the Mirror," so I always assumed that the show itself was titled the same thing. Somebody should pull out the old video & give it a spin to verify. It was taped in some castle, I guess during her tour in Britain in 1989.

Tommer, I LOVED it!! Awesome work, the music fit beautifully with the reading. Amazing! And I loved how "and the children go on" is repeated at the end, just great! I think you've got the beginnings of a fantastic career:)
Keep up the good work!

no problem Tiffany, I'm one of the few discoheads on the Ledge...i like uptempo music. I'm the best Stevie fan when she rocks out...Edge of Seventeen, GDW, I Can't Wait to name a few...

sappy and sweet is not really my style...tho I do love Stevie's poetry and lyrics...I even have a remixed dance version of Landslide which is a fav of mine :wavey:
