...about VH1. As most of you know, I stick up for VH1 a lot for their attempts to promote Stevie and Trouble in Shangri-La, but I just got done watching the Mojo 40 list, and it is quite possibly the most "pulled out of the @$$" list I've ever seen. Of course, Stevie isn't in it, even though she fits six of the seven categories very well. Cher was all the way at #37, and Creed made it to #5! What f****** mojo does Creed have? And Jewel? Please...but the absolute worst sin of all --> J-Lo was #1. I HATE J-Lo, she's just some attention seeking slut who CHANGED her music style to fit the pop charts better. I don't remember where Madonna was, but I don't think it was even the top 5. And EXCLUDING Stevie...for those who don't know, here were the categories to define mojo.
1. Sexy Beast -- ummm...ok. Stevie doesn't have the perfect body anymore, but she's still got that charming classy sex appeal.
2. Filthy Stinkin' Rich -- Yeah, umm...Stevie just made $18 million in one tour. Two huge houses and constantly shopping. She's got the money.
3. En Vogue -- Stevie's always been applauded for her fashion.
4. Scandal Magnet -- Can we say drugs and love affairs out the butt? Not to mention the famous Sara lawsuit.
5. Je Ne Sais Quois -- Meaning it's a mystery of why people are so drawn to these people. Can we all REALLY describe why we love Stevie to the level that we do? She's just great. She has "it" as VH1 puts it.
6. Master of all They Survey -- Okay, this one doesn't really fit Stevie as she only surveys one area...music. She doesn't do the film or clothes line thing.
7. Props -- Gold and Platinum records, hit singles, grammies (well, we can exclude that from Stevie's list, damn grammy people), but she sure has had her share of the other things.
This is the worst list I have ever seen VH1 put together, and if you go to the message board for it, I don't think there's one person on there who agrees with this list. VH1 did a terrible job, and now it's time to give them a big razzberry for this shenanigans.

I have to agree with you. It DEFINETLY was the worst list VH1 has ever done (although the music video one sucked...."baby One More Time" and that one Ricky Martin song?) I feel like writing them a letter about how crappy it was. And that's all i have to say about that.

I was also watching it last night, and was appauled...although I knew Stevie wouldnt be on it, because I would've heard about I'm sure...I watched it out of curiousity anyway.....It was crap, and Stevie definetely should have been on it...ridiculous.....I hope VH1 does spice it up for the new mac reunion, because their "Stevie promotion" sucked last time around...she was artist of the month and what did we get? reruns of BTM and storytellers??? wow.....aerosmith got his own little show when he was artist of the month, they had like AEROSMITH DAY and stuff....they disappoint me a lot actually.

I only got to see a little bit of it, but by what you all have said, it really sucked. I'm gonna try to catch it again. J-Lo was number one??? i can't stand her!!!!!!!

I agree that the list wasn't really up to par, but at least they did mention Stevie and showed a clip of Sorcerer and an interview during Sheryl Crow's little segment. But she definitely deserved a spot on that list, no question.

Hell, I've come to expect it by now. They always snub Stevie... I guess she's just not 'fashionable' enough for them.

Stevie wasn't on the list because she's not a slut. Not everyone on that list is a slut, but they've worn their share of tiny outfits in their time.

i watched that show yesterday too......i only caught the top 5 tho. i was thinking while watching "damn...stevie should be on this list" but i knew she wasn't. i hate how VH1 and just about everything else is so unappreciative of stevie. she deserves to be on that list a lot more than half of the people on there.......and j-lo at number 1?? that's just insane. and, correct me if i'm wrong, but is it really necessary to judge how much "mojo" a person has by how filthy rich they are??? i don't know, that just seemed weird to me.

no way.
i don't want stevie nicks to be in any list where jennifer lopez is no.1.
if you wanna compare her with j.lo- go ahead, but in my opinion it's like comparing a bottle to a chicken, you compare within a category, you don't compare totally different things.

While I will always commend VH1 for at least trying to promote TISL, I'm noticing a lot of bias lately. For instance, some artists, no matter what song they release, will automatically go to the top 10 video list. Dave Matthew's Band is one of these. Their new single Where Are You Going was released about a month ago and is already in or very close to the top 10. Their other song Every Day didn't catch on very quickly...I can remember hearing that song long before it became a hit. But then VH1 played the Hell out of this song so that people would notice it. It got to the point where I saw this song on EVERY morning while watching Jump Start, and I usually watch no more than an hour of Jump Start either because I wake up too late or have to go somewhere, so out of 5-10 videos, I would always see it on. Creed is another big example. The promote the Hell out of Creed. I'm sorry, but One Last Breath is not a great song. It's the same boring thing they've been doing since day one. Yet, it's in the top 10. No Doubt, Alanis Morrisette, Goo Goo Dolls, and many others are promoted so much that there's no room for other artists. I mean, no wonder why Stevie didn't crack any higher than #19 on their top 20...while they were trying to promote TISL, they were promoting the same artists even more. And it's not that I don't like these artists (wth the exception of Creed), but come on...give other artists and songs a chance. Once in a while new people will sneak in, like Dirty Vegas with that AWFUL Days Go By song, or Vanessa Carlton with Thousand Miles, but these artists tend to disappear from VH1 after a few videos because they're too busy promoting their favorite acts. Another great example is Lenny Kravitz's Stillness of Heart. Lenny's a VH1 favorite, so naturally when Stillness of Heart wasn't catching on, they had to keep playing it over and over and over trying to get people to hear it...but this time I guess it just wasn't meant to be. I don't think Stillness of Heart made it to the top 10, and once they saw, oh my God, Lenny released a single that didn't do well? We better play it on ultra high rotation! A while ago Mick Jagger released a great song called Vision of Paradise...now, this IS a great song, and I can talk about it unbiasedly because I'm not a huge Mick Jagger fan (not saying that I don't like Mick or the Rolling Stones, I just honestly haven't heard many of their songs), and this song should have been in the top 10. The bias just seems to flow out of VH1 these days, and it's getting pretty annoying. So, that's my rant for the day...good bye. :wavey:

The thing is,Vh1 is slowly catching the MTV syndrome...they are really only focusing on certain artists who have major mass appeal. While Stevie obviously has an amazing fanbase, she chooses not to belittle herself to try and compete with all the fluff,so she pays the price in that she isn't a music tv darling.I totally agree that it would be nice if she got more recognition, but i think i'd be really disgusted if she tried to pull some s**t to try and get into the top 10.I admire her willingness to pass up trading respect for 24/7 airplay on VH1 or MTV.

Ok I just wanted to add my 2 cents and I have noticed that lately VH1 does have MTV syndrome (as someone so very well put it) they got rid of the old staff, all new young VJ's that look MTV like and they are getting new MTV style shows, however they have had to cancel a few of them, like that late night with Zac and stuff. Stupid shows that had no plce on the channel that shows rockumentaries on decades, and artists that have made big leaps for the music business and have influenced todays artists. I used to be glued to VH1 like it was some type of life line, now however I tend to change the channel alot because I hate Britney Spears and I don't care about her Drive to the top (Driven anyone) same with N'Sync. These are acts who are as good as dead anyway, they are a joke already why do I care about bubble gum pop anyways what about the acts that had hits for over 3 decades, they are much more interesting. Stevie always gets scred by them, first of all I dont care that she isnt on Divas as a headliner, she is way to good to be a Diva, and I was so proud when she said she was a bit hesitant of that title to begin with. I just feel she deserves shows such as the timeline show because her timeline would long and would make a great show, she also deserves a live concert on there the experience of Stevie live is something VH1 needs to give the channel a good kick in the pants (and a rating boost) VH1 also dosent play her videos enough her videos are great (especially Gypsy) now that I have typed so much my hand hurts I say good day and PooPoo on VH1!

Well, I don't know about you guys, but I would say that VH1 UK has definitely caught MTV syndrome already. It's completely ridiculous... VH1 Classic isn't too bad, but it alarms me that they're playing songs that are no more than a year old. And the crap they show on regular VH1 is just unbelievable.

maybe if we all wrote VH1 with suggestions, it could get through to them, is there a way to email them?

How many times did we see the clip of Courtney Love, from Stevie's Behind the Music, saying "she's got a lot of MOJO." And then they exclude Stevie completely from the Mojo special. She didn't even get one of those honorable mention segments that they did in-between the actual 40.
But all in all, I'd say that VH1 has given Stevie lots of support and airtime, maybe they don't shove her down everyone's throats as much as other artists, but I don't feel she's been dissed either.

The problem is politics and advertising and coroprate greed. It's taken over television and radio so that now corporations and record labels dictate what's a hit, because they can. They are soooo big now (i.e. clearchannel radio owns 12,000 stations in the US and has greedy deals with recod labels so if an artist is on the "wrong one" they are screwed out of millions in air play!).
It's not about taste any more, it's just about money. VH1 has MTV syndrome because if they can convince their advertisers that their prime audience is YOUNG and teeny bopper-y, (as opposed to classic rock dinosaurs) then they get big bucks to advertise because young people are proven to buy more stuff. Stevie appeals to young and old alike. But J-lo pretty much only appeals to the young crowd so its a safer bet advertisers will cough up the $$$.
Shame on VH1 for trying to please their bank accounts instead of their viewers.
By the way, that's soooo true about Courtney Love's line, Livia. Thanks for pointing that out.
