Mario (or anyone that knows),

I saw the add in the July '02 issue of "Record collector" magazine for the Snapper Records "Best of Peter Green Splinter Group" release (SMAD0849) and it says "limited edition includes bonus disc re-visiting classic tracks from Green's early career".

Do you/does anyone know if this "re-visiting" statement means that this "bonus disc" on the "limited edition" of the release will include RE-RECORDINGS of early songs or will it be a compilation of recordings we/most of us already have (since we know Snapper has put out the FM Boston Tea Party tapes etc.)? I've checked the Snapper website (as the add suggests) but found nothing on it and it says it is "out now" though I've checked with my local reliable UK importers (as I am in the US and I assume it has only been release in the UK (so far)) and they don't have any sign of it.

Any further info on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and I hope to hear from you/someone soon on this matter.

John

I've heard nothing of a release so far, but www.eil.com have a promo sampler of the album. Search under "Peter Green" and check it out ..... :wavey: :wavey:

Hello from Italy.

I thing the cd is already out in England and Europe, as street date was June 24th 2002.

Cd 1 is a compilation of Splinter Group's album for Snapper/Artisan (so no material from "Time Traders").

Cd 2 has Splinter Group's versions of Greeny classics, but it's not clear if they are tracks from the actual Snapper/Artisan albums or unreleased live tracks.

I'm sure Snapper has the whole Splinter Group's live performance at the Guildford Festival 1999, so maybe cd 2 features those performances.

Let's hope!

Mario.

Tracks compiled from the five Snapper albums, this would suggest the bonus tracks could just be the Soho versions. I hope to be proven wrong.

"Man Of The World" wouldn't be from Soho, they didn't play it. Probably is the "hidden" track from "Destiny Road" (that is merged with "There's A River"), finally separated as it's own track.

Dang, SIX Robert Johnson tunes. They're REALLY milking those two albums (Robert Johnson Songbook & Hot Foot Powder) to death. I think they should've included a couple more of their live originals from "Soho" instead. (Like "Hey Mama Keep Your Big Mouth Shut" or the live version of "Indians", or even something previously unreleased to make it worth buying for the "completists" like me...such as, the 2 bonus tracks each only available on the Japanese pressings of "Destiny Road" & "Hot Foot Powder")

Found out today,

Tracks 16-19 from Soho - Live at Ronnie Scotts what a bummer!

Track 20 from Destiny Road.

Looks like Snapper are going to milk the PGSG stuff they have until it is dry now that the guys are with Eagle records.

 :distress:

I've attached the ad I saw in RC and you'll see it says (if it comes out OK) "bonus DISC re-visiting..." (etc.) so do you madformac (or anyone else) know if tracks 16-20 we've been discussing are the ones to be on the limited edition 2 CD set version of this or are these the final tracks on disc one (in which case there may still be some goodies coming our way on disc two)? Probably not, but wishful thinking. :) Anyone know?

Tracks 16-20 are the ones on the "bonus" second disc unfortunately. Here was I hoping for some previously unreleased stuff.

Nevermind. :distress: :distress:

At least, the cover is really cool...worth the .jpg to keep for the CD label for our OWN personal self-burnt "Best of Splinter Group" CD; and not being restricted to what record label what songs were on. ;) ;) ;)
