ok, for English, we're writing research/opinion essays.....and we can choose whatever topic we want, as long as it states an opinion, and that opinion can be backed up with facts. i want to do something Mac-related (lol, all of the papers i have turned in this year in that class have been Mac-related....) but i don't know what my topic should be! anyone have any suggestions????
so you can get an idea of what kind of topics the teachers will except, here's what a couple of my friends chose to do:
dina chose to write about child labor laws....
sarah's topic was "Why the Beatles are Such Good Influences" or something like that.....
and the best one of them all (lol).........
katie's topic is "Why Hair-Bands Rock"
;)
so, if any of you have any suggestions, i'd love to hear them! thanks a lot! :wavey:

Witch Rumor "...Get a Life"

The Associated Press, May 30, 1998
Stevie Nicks Denies Witch Rumor
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks says the old rumor that she's a witch still isn't true.
``I can´t believe people are still telling me I´m a witch because I wear black,´´ Nicks said in a statement Thursday.
She was responding to criticism from music minister Scott Naden of Southwood Presbyterian Church, which banned five seniors from playing her song ``Landslide´´ at Huntsville High School´s baccalaureate program Sunday.
The students said Naden and church officials decided the ballad, written by Nicks, was inappropriate because they consider the singer a Satan worshipper. Nicks denied it.
Nicks said the group plans to dedicate the song to the students at a June 29 concert at Oak Mountain Amphitheater in Pelham.
Naden declined to comment to the Huntsville Times.
Nicks' publicist, Liz Rosenberg, said the rumor has dogged Nicks for years after she once talked about a mythological witch in a newspaper article.
``The press picked up on it, and they´ve been confused about it ever since,´´ Rosenberg said.
L.A. Times - May 30, 1998
Not Under Her Spell: A Huntsville, Ala., church has forbidden a student rendition of the Fleetwood Mac song "Landslide" at a high school baccalaureate program because the minister believes that Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks is "a witch and a Satan worshiper." Moments before the service was to begin this week at Southwood Presbyterian Church, Huntsville High School's vocalist Emily McDowell was told she couldn't sing the wistful song about growing older and changing; however, she was still scheduled to sing it at the school's graduation ceremonies today. Nicks' manager said Thursday that the singer, who has cultivated a gypsy-like persona through her song lyrics and clothing, is "tired" of questions about whether she is a witch, and thinks people should "just get a life."
Nicks Fix - May 30, 1998
Stevie has long been haunted by this rumor and it would be nice to see it end. Anyone who has followed her through the years knows better. Maybe you remember years ago when she, again, stopped this rumor.
Listen to her from way back (wav file).

there is a problem with the 'witch' subject, because the only basis to deny this thing is stevie's own claims and no facts for a proof, nor does facts to prove she is one, the claim has to be backed by facts. beware of this one. (sorry brian, it's a cool thing to write about tho).
i'll give it my humble try:
thesis: romantic breakups within a musical group will cause better songwriting and overall better musical performance.
sounds strange, but look at the facts- abba, mamas & the papas and of course fleetwood mac all did their best work while romanticly troubled times within the band.
(even in 2001, stevie's biggest hit was a direct result of this 24 year old breakup)
hope it helped, good luck.

Apparently Margot Adler, an acknowledged Wiccan and author of Drawing Down The Moon, reportedly met with Stevie backstage at one of her concerts to discuss the Witch matter. Margot politely requested that Stevie tone down the Witch element of her show and ask her female fans to not misrepresent The Craft (Wicca) in her name (Stevie).
Margot also asked Stevie to clarify that she was never a practicing Witch or ever dabbled in Black or White Magick. Stevie readily agreed to Margot's request....
Drawing Down The Moon is an excellent reference tool for those wanting to learn more about Wicca !

Hey everyone! thanks for all of your input! tommer, i had considered the romantic breakups = better songs/musical performance one......and i WAS actually going to use the witch one if i didn't think of anything else, lol (my teachers would've LOVED that! "Stevie Nicks is NOT a Witch" by Audra, lol) but i ended up using Louise's suggestion.......so my topic is "Why Christine McVie Should be Involved in the Upcoming FM Album"
i'm eventually gonna need some more help from the ledgies (you guys are one of my sources! i think i'm gonna make up a poll, so in my paper i can say "A recent survey shows...." and it'll sound all professional, lol!) thanks again to all of you!
