This is a great album! And personally, I like Sheryl's version of It's Only Love better then Stevies! I always skip this song on TISL.

Anyone else have this yet? (Besides you lucky Brits;) )

I bought this morning (on sale at Border's by the way for $12.99) and have listend to it in my office on and off all day. I have to say I like it. I dont think its as good as "The Globe Sessions" but there's defintely some cool songs on it. The last song "Weather Channel" is especially haunting.

Honestly, I like this version of "Its only Love" a little better as well. One complaint: I only wish like most "duets" these days, that we could hear Stevie a little better on the songs she sings on. But overall, I would give the record a
"B".

on my way home from work. I haven't had a minute to listen to it yet. I'm saving it for my commute to work tomorrow. I feel confident that it will worth listening to - all her other cds were.

And you have to love that she thanked all of her "special guests" collectively, but Stevie was acknowledged alone.

Sheryl's a chiffonhead!

My honest opinion... it's not my favorite Sheryl CD. It's a damn good album, but not as good as Tuesday Night Music Club or Sheryl Crow. The production is just a little too slick, and I'm sure there are parts that have been been mixed into oblivion. The songs themselves are good songs, with my favorites being C'mon C'mon, Steve McQueen, Diamond Road, Safe And Sound, and Soak Up The Sun... I think I've missed a couple out there. I totally agree with Louise that Stevie's version of It's Only Love is better though... that delicate, vulnerable sound fits the lyrics so much better. And if we're scoring, I give it a B- :D

BTW, does anyone know if there's a bootleg copy of the Scala show floating around, because the new songs really ROCKED when Sheryl performed them live. :)

BTW Sheryl's version of It's Only Love has definately grown on me but I still prefer the simplicity of Stevie's version. It just goes to show what can be done with one song though..eh?

I really like the new Sheryl Crow cd. I think it is tied with Globe Sessions for me as her best cd. I dont know what it was with Tuesday Night Music Club but I dont think it is as great as everybody says it is. I mean, I love strong enough, run baby run and leaving las vegas but the rest of the songs are just ok in my book. I really like Sheryl's version of It's Only Love. I really like the music and to me it sounds like 2 different songs. I think that Safe and Sound is a masterpiece and definitley one of the best Sheryl songs that I hae ever heard.

I think it's really good...I haven't picked out a favorite off of it yet...but I do love her version of It's Only Love....I can't wait to see her this summer...

My brother picked it up for me yesterday and I haven't been able to stop listening to it! I love it and I think it is one of her best! I can't seem to get these songs out of my head. My favorites so far are It's So Easy, Diamond Road, C'mon C'mon, Weather Channel, Safe and Sound and You're An Original. I really like It's Only Love too!

I've been listening to the CD including the bonus tracks for about 2 weeks...got them off AG while I wait for my import copy to get to my doorstep.
I have mixed feelings about the CD. At first I loved it. all the songs are very catchy, but herin lies the problem. After a few listens ..Like the 1st single SUTS, I tired of some of it quickly. esp. "Your an original", "Its so easy", "Over You" and "SUTS".
I think Sheryl tried too hard, and as a whole the CD feels unoriginal and sometimes mediocre, like disposable pop. Awash in layers and layers of guitars and subtle overproduction, It feels like you can tell Sheryl had something to prove this time around. Throw in her admission to the media about her trepidation fitting in the current music scene, ADD her recent glamor makeover and semi-clad photo lay-outs and you feel the contridictions!
Music wise she turns up the guitars so much in "Safe and sound" that it loses its charm in an otherwise great song. her earlier rendition was so much better. I also think she also beats the feeling out of "Its only love" in which Sheryl steals an arrangement strangely reminicent of Joan Osbornes "One of us".
Dont get me wrong, over all its not a horrible CD especially considering the state of music these days, I'd take Sheryl's weaker offering over much of the crap being dolled out.

"The Globe Sessions" & "Sheryl Crow" to me have overall more original songwriting and production, proving the age old less is more!

This Cd makes me appreciate Stevie for her originality and beautiful golden voice. Only Stevie could write songs incorporating, among her muses "the planets of the universe" and get away with it.

Kisseversary gift???? Oh I'm almost afraid to hear what the next anniversary coming up is!!!!!! LOL

Anywho, this new baby is sitting right in front of me as I type this....finally took it OUT of the cd player. Now, I just got it yesterday afternoon, when it came out, so I haven't really had a chance to get used to these songs and let them all sink in and for all the songs to grow on me, but right now I can tell ya some quick favorites are Soak Up The Sun, Steve McQueen, You're An Original, C'mon C'mon, Diamond Road (now I love Stevie on C'mon C'mon, I think you can hear her pretty well....but I don't think you can hear her well enough on Diamond Road, so I'm disappointed with that). And I also love love love You're Not The One (thank you again, Pip!!), and I still say it's every bit as good as these songs that are on the album and it should have made it onto the album....for goodness sake, it's almost like this is the Silver Springs of Sheryl's album!!!! lol Ok, not quite Silver Springs caliber, but you get my drift!!!!
I DO NOT like Sheryl's version of It's Only Love though.......It's Only TOO MUCH!!!!!!!!! Overall, a great album, and I'm happy to ride around in my car, in 90 degree heat with my windows down, blasting this sucker!!!! Hello summer--I'm ready for ya!!!!

".. we got rockstars in the white house, all our popstars look like porn.."

I wonder if she was singing about herself. :-) I'm really loving 6 songs on the cd. That's usual for me when it comes to Sheryl. All of her albums have about 5 or 6 songs that I love - definitely makes buying the album worth it. I love Steve McQueen and C'mon, C'mon (even if you can only hear Stevie in her macygray-bombaysapphire back-up vocal). "Over You" is another favorite. I think it's when she sings "i wanna get over you.. but you're everywhere." I love how the music sways in "Diamond Road".. and I really like "It's Only Love." I can't say I like it better than Stevie's version, and I can't say I like Stevie's version better, either. I really like them both - maybe it's just a great little song. Didn't Sheryl write it for Stevie? maybe's that's how she is paying tribute to Stevie by having this song on the record. And you wouldn't expect Stevie to perform backup on a tribute to her, would you?? Yes, I like Sheryl's take on this song very much.

One artist that I'm always drawn to is Neil Young. Like Stevie and Fleetwood Mac, I always buy his record on the day of release. I must admit that his new album that came out last week is excellent. Neil rarely disappoints me. And, as good as it is, Sheryl's new CD has been what I've been listening to since I bought it on tuesday. Any album that keeps me interested is always a 'pretty good" album in my book. Along with Young's "Are You Passionate," I think C'mon, C'mon is going to be one of my summer of '02 cds. :-)

p.s. Abiline (in her "If It Makes You Happy" groove), is another one I've been repeating. "...well you make it much too hard.."

one last thought.. I can't connect with "Weather Channel" at all. I find it to be a very flat ending.

Yeah, I'm loving the cd. I'm definitely diggin It's Only Love, Soak Up the Sun, You're an Original, Cmon Cmon the whole thing.

But can that really be Stevie on Diamond Road? Its so high. She can't sing that high, can she?

i looooove this line it sorta sums up the state of music.....you got rockstars ie Bono AND Sheryl doing their political thing from within 'The Whitehouse' where as a while ago they would concentrate on writing protest songs. And Popstars are marketed like pornstars...not so much for their musical talents but in what way they can show off as much of their skin to the world

I wonder if she was singing about herself. :-)

One artist that I'm always drawn to is Neil Young.

I like Neil Young too but we have only got two ancient albums in our house but these are much loved and played.....'Harvest' and 'After The Gold Rush' ...must update the collection.

one last thought.. I can't connect with "Weather Channel" at all. I find it to be a very flat ending.

I am not sure you would truly want to connect with that one...LOL!! Depression and suicide...nasty topics.....but succinctly put in this little 'ditty' called Weather Channel'(quote Sheryl).

I'm just curious - Is it only me that is kinda annoyed that "It's Only Love" appears on this album and TISL? I can see how Stevie probably wanted and also felt obligated to included a Sheryl song on TISL seeing how Sheryl was the producer and such a great friend. But then Sheryl includes it on her own album. Seems kind of like a waste to me to put it on TISL. Personally I wish Stevie would have left "It's Only Love" off and put one of her own songs on there. Then to top it all off, Sheryl doesn't even include "You're Not the One" on her album but puts it as a B side. Kinda irks me a little. oh well.

Stevie is not singing on Diamond Road. There is no mention of her being on that song in the liner notes and I certainly can't hear her

Stevie is credited for quest vocals on Diamond Road

Wherebouts??? As I can't see her mentioned on that song on my copy??

My copy has the lyrics then the following...

Sheryl Crow>Vocal, Bass. Tim Smith>Electric Guitar, Bass. Peter Stroud. Electric Guitar, Lead Guitar.....and so on. No mention of guest vocals at all:confused: All the other guest vocals come right after Sheryls name.

Pip:confused:

I have listened to the CD quite a few times and really like Diamond Road but did not notice Stevie was on it, but she is indeed credited with guest vocals and now with another listen I guess I can barely make her out.

FiercestCalmSea

So is she on it or isn't she??? WHo's booklet is correct. Did the Brit ones omit her in error or did the US ones add her by mistake. I can't hear her at ll on this track so maybe the US ones have the typo. What do you think guys??

Pip

Ok......I have just had another listen at full volume and I do think I can make out Stevie now. I think I can hear her on the chorus on the 'you're not alone' and 'on diamond road' bits. Give it another listen and tell me what you think. It sounds like maybe Stevie and Sheryl singing higher.

Pip

Rumours

See, that's what I thought too Pip--I said oh ok, she's singing on those words in parenthesis in the booklet--"you're not alone" and "on diamond road"..........and she IS credited with vocals on this song in our booklet.......it just is so hard to make her voice out on the song.......
I think it IS her......just not the voice we're all used to these days!!! LOL :D
I guess maybe Sheryl got Stevie to go into her Sorcerer "in my misery-yeah-yeah" mode again???? ;) Higher....

When I first heard Sheryl's version of It's Only Love, I really didn't like it. After a few more listens, it is kind of growing on me. Both versions are a little different from each other, but I kind of like them both now... which is funny because I always used to skip it on TISL and now I don't do that anymore.

Stevie is also credited in my booklet as guest vocals for Diamond Road. I couldn't hear her at all the first time I listened to it. After a few more listens very closely to the chorus, I think I can hear her in the "you're not alone... on diamond road" too. I too think her voice might slightly be a bit higher... but it sounds great. It is one of my favorite songs... even if I can't really hear Stevie.

This CD is so good, like mostly everyone else in here, I can't seem to put it down either! Safe and Sound, It's so Easy, Steve McQueen, Soak up the Sun, and Weather Channel, are my favs so far. I do have to agree with all those who said that "It's only love" isn't as good as Stevie's version. There is just that element to Stevie's voice in that song that is so capturing. As it was said before, that song is too teched up, for such a simple song! But, i still think it does sound good, just not as good as the Stevie's version. But this CD is really great otherwise, Steve McQueen is a really cool song to listen to when your driving, I notice my speed goes way over the limit when I listen to the song. Good title for the song then eh? I also wish that the sogs that Stevie did backing for that you could hear Stevie a little more, their voices just blend so well though, I think that's why Stevie may spund so faint. But, yeah, really good, probably her best so far, in my opinion. I give it an "A"!!!!!! Go Stevie and Sheryl!!!!!

OK... Pip, I listened again, but I had to crank it up real loud to hear.

I was thinking... if her voice works anything like mine, maybe her higher register is quieter than her lower register? And that's why her vocals are quieter?

I still think it's totally unfair that we can hardly hear her on the tracks she's on. And what is with her not even BEING credited on the UK version?! I demand they put out a new version WITH Stevie's name in the rightful place so I can buy it! Scary thing is... I'm not kidding...
