No problem, just would have been nicer to have seen this with better quality. What a trip that must have been. Did Stevie seem high? :D I mean her vocals, it seems like a higher key?

Are there any decent-quality MP3s of that performance anywhere? I'm amazed by the video alone, Stevie sounds fanstastic, and it's one of my favourite ever songs xD

This is when she supposedly wrote Whole Lotta Trouble the solo outing with Tom Petty and Bob Dylan in Australia, but Nicks was threatened by Australian authorities with expulsion from the country for not carrying a work permit.
The tour marked a turning point in her career: although she had achieved significant critical acclaim, drugs were taking a toll on her performing, limiting her vocal range and pitch severely and changing her on-stage persona.
It was at the end of the Australian tour that Nicks checked herself into the Betty Ford Center.

What a glorious, ragged vocal. So strong and so ravaged at the same time. I love it. Thank you for posting, Ragrsrocalot. I'd never even heard audio of it before.
Someone mentioned pitch? That's what I love the most about Stevie pre-rehab concerts- She'd sing at the very top of her range, --yes, I think she was singing 'higher' also, Ragsr, and I loved it! When she'd start singing pitched higher, even if the voice was rough, it gave such an urgency to her singing! Rock and roll, you know?
I love, love, love this! Thank you for posting it!

Dear Young Prince, ( I do believe you're just a tad more than a lad, but a very intelligent one and certainly well-worth reading, so believe me when I mean no offense, at the following!)
--I do believe you have the timeline, or location, of your Stevie folklore a little off. I'm not an authority- but it is my belief that this Australian clip came when Stevie was MIA, AWOL, from the US and 'I Can't Wait' was rising into the Top 20 and the video for it had caused a sensation from Dave Letterman plugging it/having fun with it for at least a week on his tv show, he'd show the video and everyone was kind of wondering 'Where's Stevie?'
Turned out she was in Australia with Petty and Dylan and had not even yet begun her own tour for 'Rock A Little'.
Stevie eventually came back to The US, and did a rather long Rock A Little tour, and the final night of the RAL tour was at Red Rocks, Colorado. It was after the Red Rocks concert, some say the next day, that Stevie checked into Betty Ford. As soon as she got out of Betty Ford, she went to work re-mixing the sound of the concert and shooting close-ups for the home-video release of what became the Red Rocks home video. This was poked fun at just this month at the annual 'Night of 1000 Stevies' event in New York- Two Stevie impersonators called The Ho Ho's did a parody of the difference between Stevie's live and re-shot close-ups, as the Red Rocks DVD played in the background.
Stevie herself has said it was right after the Red Rocks concert that she entered Betty Ford.
So, I believe that this concert with Petty and Dylan in Australia was at least a good 7 or 8 months before she checked into Betty Ford. One of the experts will know.

Gosh I love a 1986 Stevie! In my opinion, 1981-86 was like Stevie's peak. She is absolutely WONDERFUL now, but I love these raw vocals. They're so soulful and you can just tell they were all having fun. LOVE THIS. I've missed the Ledge for awhile now!

Hey Nikolaj,
No offence taken at all! In no way at my young age do I think or would even expect to know my stuff over a lot of The Ledgies.. Especially being from Aus/NZ.
I should of been a bit more clearer on that last line lol,

You're right in saying that there is a 7-8 month gap between the end of THIS particular Australian Tour and her checking into Betty Ford but what I failed to say was at the end of her Rock A Little Tour she checked into Betty Ford.

The RAL tour ended on October 10, 1986 in Sydney, Australia. :sorry: on the topic of Bob Dylan.. We must have "Mixed Up Confusion" lol.. ;)

I saw the US leg of this Dylan/Petty tour - July 1986. The show was incredible. Stevie's vocals here are added magic! Many thanks for sharing!

Does anyone here have a less-than-favorable opinion of this performance? It's cool that it happened, I suppose, but I'm not exactly sure why I think it's dreadful, but I do.

This is an incredible performance. the only thing dreadful is the quality of the video, maybe it will turn up in better quality some day. her voice is fantastic! I hate to think of all the timeless performances of mac band members lost in time.

thanks for uploading this, incredible!

I snagged this video clip from Veoh several years ago. So , we have the hope that maybe whomever posted it in the first place, is a Ledgie and will help us out. If not, this might be as good as it gets.

I love the fact that Stevie just self-invited herself to perform at those shows. She knew her friend Tom was performing with Bob Dylan, and she was determined not to miss the opportunity to be on the stage with him! It certainly was a crazy time for her, and such an impulsive thing to do. I wonder if she took a big stash of coke with her when she made the trip?

Probably she did. Or, rather, had someone else do it for her. It probably went without saying.

Also - what are the lyrics in your signature from?

It was being recorded for a video release. Maybe Stevie's "work permit" issues were part of the reason hers part was cut. They did this two nights in a row. The mp3 version I have is not the same as the one in the video posted with Stevie. Here's just Tom & Bob from the VHS:

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/heoKVoXQpS4&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/heoKVoXQpS4&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Oh my, that's fabulous. I've driven myself potty looking for a better quality MP3 of the original video. I managed to turn the original video into an MP3, but the quality of it... D=

Ugh. I'm glad she kept her reservation at Betty Ford. I think even Stevie would be appalled at this performance.
What's Dylan's excuse, though? LOL.
