Interviewing fellow musicians on Bio Channel's must-see "The Chris Isaak Hour," the singer-songwriter revealed another exceptional skill. His chats with such artists as Stevie Nicks, Cat Stevens, Smashing Pumpkins, Glen Campbell and Chicago unearth fresh insights into each performer.
"They can tell that I really love music and respect what they do," Isaak said. "We made a point of going a little farther than the usual 'Who are you dating?' and 'When is your new album out?' questions.
"The one thing all my guests had in common beside amazing talent was that they all overcame obstacles to get to the top and make their music. You think of Stevie Nicks as just being born a gorgeous rock star with a platinum record. But she was somebody's hotel maid at one point."

Dudek's solo work yielded a couple of FM radio hits, "City Magic" and "Old Judge Jones." But problems bogged down his career.
Columbia teamed Dudek with label mates Mike Finnigan and Jim Krueger for a "DFK" tour, then an album. Then Cher asked Dudek to play on her "Black Rose" album.
"It was a pretty decent rock 'n' roll album," he said. "But Neil Bogart, owner of the record company, Casablanca, died right after we put it out. That sealed its fate. The push behind it stopped. Cher swept it under the rug after that."
Dudek lived with Cher for three years. "We were in the shower one day and she says, 'What do you think we're doing together, Les?' I said, 'We're just two lonely people hanging out with each other until something better comes along.' She goes, 'Good answer!'"
After they split up, Cher helped him land a role in "Mask."
Other opportunities popped up, but the timing was never right. "Anytime a guitar player dies, they call me. When the guy from Chicago blew his head off, who gets the call? Les Dudek. When Lowell George died, who got the call? Yeah, I could have been in Little Feat, too.
"It would have been really neat playing for Chicago, though I hear it's kind of a boring gig. But Little Feat, that would have been fun."
In 1988, during another lull, Dudek contemplated becoming a sheriff. "Then I got yanked back into the business by John Kay of Steppenwolf. He wanted me to go on tour with him, which ended up being a big fiasco.
"There were times when I just felt like, 'To hell with it.' But something always pulled me back. Stevie Nicks pulled me back in. I ended up writing some songs with her. I did a tour with her in '91. That was short-lived. I broke my arm. I was riding a Harley between rehearsals and a cab pulled out in front of me."

Over the next six years, Dudek released four solo albums, scoring radio hits with “City Magic” and “Old Judge Jones.” There was a 20-year hiatus between Dudek’s 1981’s “Gypsy Ride” and the 2001 album “Deeper Shades of Blues.”
Cher asked Dudek to participate on a recording project, which would become the “Black Rose” album. In 1984, he appeared with the singer and wrote a few songs for the movie “Mask.”
Dudek teamed up with Stevie Nicks for two songs, “Sister Honey” and “Freestyle,” the title track to his 2003 CD.

Wow, that reminds me of something Sonny said about his marriage to Suzie Coelho. He said they were just waiting around for something exciting to happen.
I really don't like the way all the stories I've been reading for so long are ending these days.

This is an excerpt from the St. Louis Jewish Light article about an upcoming Sidewalk Sale:
http://www.stljewishlight.com/news/295235821906663.php
Years ago I bought a dress at a benefit sale that I was told once belonged to Fleetwood Mac's Stevie Nicks. I never knew if this was true, but every time I wore the dress I felt like a rock star and found myself inexplicably humming "Rhiannon."
I mention this because on Thursday, Aug. 27, from 10 a.m. to noon, the "Best Dressed Sidewalk Sale" will take place at Valerie Mills Boutique, 131 Carondelet Plaza, in Clayton. All proceeds from the sale — as well as 10 percent of purchases that day of Valerie Mills merchandise — will benefit the Legal Advocates of Abused Women.

Stevie Nicks an American singer-songwriter, best known for her work with Fleetwood Mac, said some pretty nice things about Britney.
The 61yr old artist says, Britney Spears has her full support.
"I love Britney and I want the best for her," Nicks said. "She has got her life back and she has two boys who need her.
"But Britney has her body back, her beauty back and, hopefully, she will get her power back."
Awe, that was so nice of her.

Sunday - I met up with a high school buddy of mine in Burbank, and we went to a cool little restaurant/bar called Fiamme (in Thousand Oaks) to see Jana Anderson and Sharon Celani perform. These two women are backup singers for Stevie Nicks, and they were nice enough to chat with us after the show and take a couple of pictures.

Grab a Stetson and your autograph pad: The AZ Music & Entertainment Hall Of Fame is holding a benefit concert on September 6 at Handlebar J in Scottsdale, a great little honky-tonky type bar just north Shea and Scottsdale Roads.
Heard of the institution we lovingly know by it's overly-complex acronym, AZM&EHOF? Turns out it's inducted legends like Alice Cooper, Glen Campbell, Steven Spielberg, Stevie Nicks, Linda Ronstadt, Waylon Jennings, and Buck Owens, all of which spent at least some time in our state.
They're not planning another induction until fall 2010 (when, with any luck, someone else in Arizona will get appropriately famous -- otherwise it's you, Shawn Michaels) but in the meantime they're hoping to raise some cash with a concert featuring inductees like Jerry Riopelle, Jessi Colter, The Herndon Brothers, and about a dozen other acts. Doors open at 4 p.m. Show starts at 5 p.m. Suggested donation is $20.

Though she made her mark on the world’s most-watched singing competition, American Idol’s Megan Joy may not be headed for the recording studio, but rather the silver screen.
The sultry, single mom with the sexy voice caught everyone’s attention during Idol’s eighth season. Immediately after her departure from the show, the internet was ablaze with the rumor that Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks had noticed Megan and wanted to anoint her to play her part in an upcoming biopic about the supergroup. (Nicks, the week before, made her thoughts crystal clear on Lindsay Lohan’s interest in the role. “Over my dead body,” the one-time queen of rock said of Lohan’s possible involvement.)
Stevie Nicks, though, isn’t the only one who has noticed Megan Joy. “From what I’ve seen, Megan doesn’t have a bad angle,” says Phoenix, Arizona indie filmmaker Jane Bell. “We’d love to work with her. I’d go so far as to say we would develop a project with her in mind. She’s stunning.”
“It’s funny. I’d never watched Idol until this season,” Bell said. “A friend called me and said ‘you’ve got to see this girl.’ As soon as we began watching her, we were hooked. So many possibilities there.”
Regarding Megan’s sleeve tattoo, Bell responded, ”To get her going in something like a festival short, we’d write the tattoo into the story, just to get her in a film, so she could get her acting feet wet. She simply has too much presence, almost a Grace Kelly kind of thing. You can’t help but gape at her.”
“We’ve tried to contact Megan,” Bell continued, “through one of her fan websites that stated they had a direct line to her, but to no avail. I know she has a myspace now. So we’ll wait until she’s off the tour, and depending on what happens with the Fleetwood Mac thing, we’ll try to get together with her in the fall. But, who knows, we might be competing with Cover Girl and L’Oreal, she’s that good-looking.”

Jimmy Iovine tells an excellent story about the pairing of Tom Petty and Stevie Nicks in Peter Bogdanovich's great film about Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Running Down a Dream. Iovine loved having Nicks sing lead on "Stop Dragging My Heart Around" because he loved hearing a woman sing the role normally sung by a man.

What does Madonna work out to? Kaballah disco? Threadmill groove? Yoga boogie? Surprise. It's none of the above. Madonna likes to work out to the tunes of Tiesto, Daft Punk and Miles Dyson according to an exclusive remix compilation the Queen of Pop put together for New York City gym chain Equinox. Download it at iTunes.
The compilation is the first in a series of Equinox's so-called Celebrity Sets that gym lovers and workout buffs can download on iTunes. “More than a dozen star-studded mixes are already in play for the fall debut—including Cher, Cyndi Lauper, Stevie Nicks, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels and Michael Buble," reveals, creative director Bianca Kosoy.
She stays mum about the arrangements the company has with participating artists. "None of them are under any contractual obligation or financial arrangement with Equinox. We want the guest DJs to be true to themselves and we will work with them to edit the list through the Equinox lens."
Perhaps they gave Madonna's a few lifetime guest passes for that fancy new Equinox in Chelsea. In any event, Madge put together a slamming remix compilation that surely will get you to crunch a little harder and pump up your heartbeat a bit faster.
Madonna's full Equinox playlist:
"Watch the Sunrise" (Extended Vocal) - Axwell
"Dance 4 Life" (12" Mix) - Tiësto & Maxi Jazz
"Delirious" David Guetta
"Do You Feel Me" (feat. Julie Thompson) - Tiësto
"Stardust" (Felguk Remix) - Perfect Stranger
"Fly Away" (Gee & Lighter Remix) - Jean Claude Ades
"Television Rules the Nation / Crescendolls" - Daft Punk
"Massenbewegungsmittel" - Miles Dyson
"Superfine" - Hong Kong Blondes
"Not Over" (feat. Ryan Tedder) - Oakenfold

The Really Snowing Picture Frame is what snow globes would be like it if wasn’t for Christopher Columbus proving that the world wasn’t flat (history nerds step in and correct that, you know you want to). Also I would be posting this post in a Navajo dialect from my wigwam (I know, I know, technically the Lenapes lived in my area, not the point history buffs, nobody’s ever heard of the Lenapes despite their poor land bartering deals- Manhattan for $24 in trinkets? ripoff city! Shame shame shame… shame on you…Arnold Diaz FTW).
Back to the picture frame- this is a non-digital picture frame (or as we used to call them back in the day “picture frame”) and is operated by a pair of batteries. When you turn it on, it looks like it’s snowing. Snow swirls around behind the glass like a windy day at Stevie Nicks' house in the 70’s. It’s really future proof since due to global warming there will no longer be snow anywhere within the next 10 years (possibly inaccurate, I’m not a meteorologist either) so you can make it snow where there is no snow. It won’t save the polar bears or anything like that though, unfortunately. It holds your standard 4″ x 6″ photos.

Last May when we were leaving a big festival near Asheville called LEAF (think an artsy, creative, love fest of an event), we hopped a van/shuttle with some other festival goers. In the shuffle of us all grabbing a seat and playing musical chairs, I ended up in the very back row with two people not in our group. That’s not a bad thing, meeting new folks is good, except maybe these folks hadn’t bathed much and they had definitely “altered their psyche” a bit.
However, I can’t not talk to anyone standing or sitting beside me, so before I knew it we were discussing some remake of a song playing on the radio. Somehow in that conversation, I ended up describing my distaste for Stevie Nicks’ rendition of the Dave Matthews Band classic “Crash”. After a bit we discussed other remakes gone bad and determined that there were some premises necessary for a good remake. And before I knew it, the patchouli smelling guy beside me confessed that he felt a certain passion for the cover albums recently released by Rod Stewart.

“Gonna Make It Up To You” is a modern and groovy pop rock-ballad. The song’s catchy chorus is sung by José Amigo and Sandy Stewart who is well known from her album ‘Cat Dancer’ and her work with Stevie Nicks.

You can’t deny, she ROCKS!
The Chris Isaak Hour
“ Stevie Nicks”
Saturday, September 05 @ 9 am ET
Rated: TVPG
Running Time: 60 Minutes
Upcoming Showings:
Saturday, September 05 @ 9 am ET
Grammy winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member, Stevie Nicks gives us a sneak peak of "Gold Dust Woman" and "Stand Back" from her new CD. In an exclusive interview, Nicks talks to host, Chris Isaak about her years with Fleetwood Mac, her severe battle with cocaine and why she has never married. Isaak accompanies Nicks to perform songs that influenced her early career, such as "It's Late" and "Red River Valley".
I caught this interview with her on The Chris Isaak Hour, WOW, what a life! The most interesting thing I found out about Stevie Nicks is that once a month she visits the injured at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Bethesda Naval Hospital. She goes with no publicity, no entourage. Stevie takes up to 400 iPods (purchased by herself, not a promotion) filled with all kinds of music and just simply sits with our injured men and women, talking about music and life. I was touched by her commitment and dedication to these men and women. If you get a chance you have to see this interview!

Q: How's "The Chris Isaak Hour" on the Biography Channel going? Who has been your favorite guest so far?
A: I never know what our schedule is, I leave that to the management, but I had a ball doing the show. Why wouldn't I? I got to play with a different star every week and they were all great and all so different. One week, I'm playing with Glen Campbell and getting a guitar lesson, and the next week, Cat Stevens is letting me sing backup to his new song. Stevie Nicks came on and did a song on the show that she had never done before. I love that she came on the show and instead of playing it safe, she does something way outside of the box. Maybe that is why she is such a legend. (See episodes at www.biography.com/ chris-isaak-hour)

Never mind how long that human put me on hold, or how many Stevie Nicks songs I had to endure before he picked up again.

I was sitting in the doctor’s office when I caught myself humming this song as it was being played over the radio, not even realizing that I was doing it until the lady next to me giggled. Yo, all I have to say is this shit is a classic, I was merely 1 yrs old when it came out but I would hear the song over and over years down the road through moms. So fast forward to 2001 and I’m working in a Radio Shack, yes I actually remembered where I was, I heard the familiar sample and looked up on our screens and there was Destiny’s Child sampling this song for “Bootylicious”. My preference is still for the original by Stevie Nicks, which is called “Edge of Seventeen”.
From Wikipedia:
According to Nicks, the title came from a conversation she had with Tom Petty’s first wife, Jane, about the couple’s first meeting. Jane said they met “at the age of seventeen,” but her strong Southern accent made it sound like “edge of seventeen” to Nicks. The singer liked the sound of the phrase so much that she told Jane she would write a song for it and give her credit for the inspiration.
Although Nicks originally planned to use the title for a song about Tom and Jane Petty, the deaths of her uncle Johnathan and of John Lennon during the same week of December 1980 inspired a new song for which Nicks used the title. Nicks’ producer and friend Jimmy Iovine was a close friend of Lennon, and Nicks felt helpless to comfort him. Soon after, she flew home to Phoenix, Arizona, to be with her uncle Johnathan, who was dying of cancer. She remained with her uncle and his family until his passing.
Pretty interesting inspiration for the song, I’d say.

Lykke Li took to the stage Friday evening like a demented Scandinavian Stevie Nicks. She captivated the Crawdaddy tent, whirling around in a swathe of black scarves and complementing tracks from her ‘Youth Novels’ album with numbers by Lil’ Wayne and Kings of Leon.

The Henri David Halloween Ball
Posted by Mike | 2:51 PM | Best of Philly, Special Events
Changes are you've been to your fair share of Halloween parties over the years but never one like this.
It was 1968 when an eccentric 22-year old Philadelphia man named Henri David decided to throw a Halloween bash for 300 of his friends.
More than 40 years later, David is one of Philadelphia's most successful jewelers, with a client list that includes Stevie Nicks and Elton John.
His annual extravaganza attracts upward of 4,000 costumed revelers, including some of the city's most open-minded socialites - and Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell, who hasn't missed a ball in 13 years.
Expect a truly outlandish costumes (David's three costumes are a closely guarded secret), lots of drinking and dancing and (late) night you will never forget.

The Dallas media conducted a conference call with Antonio Bryant yesterday and I listened to just about the whole thing an I swear I understood about ten words total that came from Antonio. It was like listening to a Bob Dylan/Stevie Nicks duet. I don’t know if it was exceptionally poor quality from their conference service or if Bryant always had his mouth full, but I felt a little dejected that I wasn’t going to be able to get anything from it. Fortunately, better men than I at the Times transcribed part of it into English.

Fashion Week is all about, well, looking fashionable, yet everyone backstage runs around with unsightly lanyards hanging from their necks. Not so at the Thakoon show. The who's who (like makeup guru Diane Kendal for NARS and hair genius Eugene Souleiman for Wella Professionals) donned buttons bearing a photograph of Stevie (as in Nicks), Thakoon’s Yorkie puppy—the unofficial show mascot. How did you come up with the name of your blog, Edge of Seventeen?
Heh. I'm a huge Stevie Nicks fan and I love the song and I love the title for a teen blog. Even last year I was like "If I ever have a blog I will name it Edge of Seventeen", and it grew from that. It's the same as how if I ever become a roller girl I will be called "Stevie Nicks-and-Cuts". Just one of those silly things you keep in your head. Also, I love how the song is about this vulnerability as a teen, the edginess and rawness of experiences at this age.

When I told my father, Alvin S. Glenn, that I'm gay, I didn't come out and say it.
I really should have though. My father was a former military man. He served 29 years in the United States Army and had an aversion to being dramatic. No tears, no dramatic pauses, and no beating around the bush. Just say what you need to say and be done with it.
But to say that I was nervous as we drove to the grocery store was an understatement.
Alvin McEwen :: The night I told my father I'm gay
"Pop, I said. I don't think you need to worry about grandchildren when it comes to me."
Granted, that this was during the time when I inaccurately thought being gay meant that you could not have a family complete with little rugrats (I say that word with much affection) running all over the place. I figured that statement was the best way the best way to break the news to him.
My father, however, said three words to me that made it all unnecessary:
"I knew that already."
To tell the truth, I was a little shocked. But I really shouldn't have been. No matter how I try, I'm not the most butch fellow in the world.
Maybe it's my diva fascination.
During Halloween in second grade, I borrowed my mother's ratty bathroom, my aunt's cold cream and went as Bette Davis in the dressing room scene of All About Eve.
When I was in fifth grade, I had a Diana Ross fascination.
By seventh grade, Ms. Ross was replaced by Stevie Nicks.
So needless to say that I'm not exactly the "straight-acting" gay man type.
But still, my father saying that he already knew that I'm gay floored me. Apparently he and my younger brother had been discussing the matter for some time before I came out to him.
After the revealing that he already knew of my sexual orientation, my father proceeded to tell me that while he does not particularly understand why I am gay, he accepted me as his son.

I once went to a Stevie Nicks concert and at the end she did a cover of a Tom Petty song. Granted, I like both Stevie and Petty but I didn’t sit there and think “OMG how horrible! Stevie Nix is singing other people’s stuff!” I actually thought it was pretty cool. Maybe it’s because I’m not a singer but I really don’t see much difference between what I saw at that concert and seeing the same thing on Guitar Hero.

Bella Donna (1981)
Stevie Nicks
In between the sessions for Fleetwood Mac’s third album, Stevie Nicks began writing and recording demos for what would become her breakthrough debut solo project, Bella Donna. The album reached number one, with singles like “Edge Of Seventeen” and “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” helping to propel the disc to the top spot — and, in the process, proving that Stevie was a marketable solo star in her own right. Like much of what she wrote for Fleetwood Mac, Bella Donna’s collection of folk-influence rock song succeed largely thanks to Stevie’s poignant and reflective lyrics. For sure, the singles are strong. But the undiscovered gems like the title track and “The Highwayman” are what make the album worth listening to again and again. On the latter, she mournfully sings, “Alas he was the highwayman, the one that comes and goes. And only the highway-woman keeps up with the likes of those.” Stevie may be a rock artist, but her narrative songwriting (a style mostly associated with country music) is what sets her apart and makes Bella Donna her masterpiece.

Take for example Bjanka Adzic Ursulov’s costumes, which mix postmodern MTV with vintage wear. The 12-person chorus is decked out like backup dancers at a Janet Jackson concert, lacking only conspicuous head microphones to make it seem as if they’re intoning lines from Euripides’ classic album “Rhythm Nation 431 BC.”
Bening, on the other hand, dolled up like a fancy 19th century witch, occasionally invokes Stevie Nicks with a wounded expression and traumatized shock of short-cropped hair.
Should I mention the Britney Spears-like cameo of Kreon’s daughter, a vitally important character who doesn’t actually appear in Euripides’ original?

For those who aren’t sitting in the dentist’s chair—you probably would like it. The Sowashes sound like a chilled-out, Asperger’s syndrome-laden version of the Hold Steady, with a tiny bit of alt-country mixed in for good measure.
“We all kind of like music from 15 years ago,” the frontman said, adding, “We’re not blog rock.”
Trying to describe his approach to writing, Sowash said his songs “usually wind up being about mundane things in my life. I usually try to bring out the funny in them.”
His songwriting advice, in a nutshell: “Write what you know, like being infatuated with Stevie Nicks at a young age.”

Lemonhead Recommends - Stevie Nicks
Stevie Nicks has been my idol for as long as I can remember, everything about her is magical and drenched in depth. She always maintains beauty and strength simultaneously.
Many of Stevie’s best works are her demos; take ‘Blue Lamp’ (also my favourite Stevie Nicks song) for example. Supposedly based on a blue tiffinany lamp her mother bought her and she refused to board a plane without, the lyrics portray something entirely different “Can we talk. I’ve known you for a long time. Now you know.”
<object width="445" height="364"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube-nocookie.com/v/bByNbqOPacY&hl=en&fs=1&border=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube-nocookie.com/v/bByNbqOPacY&hl=en&fs=1&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="445" height="364"></embed></object>
Equally gut wrenching and dramatic is her demo of ‘Smile At You (angry demo)’.
“Go on save yourself, leave the key here, you love someone else, I shouldn’t be here”. The lyrics, unquestionably based on Stevie’s own heartache can reach a thousand souls and never cease to stir emotion within me, the most devastating part being towards the close of the song when Stevie declares in utter raw trauma “My heart, my heart, was broken, my heart, my heart was broken”.
Truly glorious, beautiful and filled with soul, as with all Stevie Nicks songs, she remains now and forever more my idol.

I came to the understanding that i'm such a spaz, and so hooping makes way more sense for me. Anyways I feel in love with tribal belly dance/hula hoop clothing, so I just stated making my own clothes. My fantasy world would have a happy hour in which Laura Angles, Stevie Nicks, Nico, Mae West, Calamity Jane, and myself meet up at least once a week in some out of the way place to have lemon balm juleps and discuss, well, everything.

Are we living on information overload?
by ELLEN BROWN
There’s a quote from Stevie Nicks (former lead singer of Fleetwood Mac) in a recent Rolling Stone magazine interview that I thought was rather profound: “Little girls think it’s necessary to put all their business on MySpace and Facebook, and I think it’s a shame. ... I’m all about mystery.”
Oh, Stevie, you are so wise. You were so cool back in the 1970s, rocking out with your awesome band. You were too busy making great music to worry about what other people were doing.
You were also living in a time before we all discovered perhaps the greatest invention ever: the Internet.

Fourteen years ago yesterday, Phish played perhaps their finest show in Arizona at the now defunct Compton Terrace. Phoenix’s Compton Terrace was created by Jess Nicks - Stevie’s father - on land borrowed from the adjacent Legend City, a wild-west themed amusement park. After Legend City closed, Nicks moved the venue to another site which is where the Phish concert took place shortly before the venue closed for good in 1996.

Megan Joy Is Sparking Filmmakers’ Interest
by ladybugg on October 15, 2009

Interview Project by David Lynch is an online series of interviews with Americans from different walks of life, in various towns and cities all over America. Beginning October 20, the project will launch a community blog, incorporating Facebook, YouTube and Twitter, so fans will be able to upload their own original content.
Austin Lynch (David’s son) and a friend set out on a roadtrip across America and back to get the people’s story from everyday Americans. They covered 20,000 miles in 70 days and got stories that are notable for the fact they are real, organic and unrehearsed. Production wise, they have the unmistakable Lynch feel, you keep looking for something that may be hidden. I watched 4 of the interviews and enjoyed spotting the Lynch symbols – close ups of flowers, bird chirps, etc. It will be fun to get to see how the conversations flow once the blog opens up a richer dialogue.
The blog launch will coincide with the premiere of the Clinton interview, a Fayetteville, WV man who finds salvation through a Stevie Nicks concert. For laughs, check out Lynch below NSFW (language) talking about watching movies on iPhones.

Best Earthquake Stories
\
Earthquake stories are like first love stories: Everyone's got one, but they always tend to be interesting anyway.
What were you doing at 5:04 pm 20 years ago?
I was just out of the shower, in my underwear, and seconds later I was climbing down the fire escape of my building. I was getting ready to go to a Stevie Nicks concert at either Shoreline or Concord -- Concord, I think -- and kept thinking I still had to go.
I walked outside, past a lady who was, I guess, about 60 -- a full generation older -- and we just looked at each other and started laughing. It was a moment that brought everybody together, because in those moments everybody, absolutely everybody, was thinking about the exact same thing.
You got an earthquake story? Is yours any good? So-so? Let's hear it.

The former Coshocton County resident filled up Secrest Auditorium and sung hits like "Findin' A Good Man," "Isn't That Everything" and "I Don't," that made her a star.
The last time Peck, a River View High School graduate, was last home was Christmas, but she hasn't performed anywhere around Coshocton since she was a teenager playing bars, festivals and fairs.
Coming back into town brought back memories for Peck, 31, who now spends most of her time recording in Nashville and on tour.
"I went to the (Colony Square) mall and it brought back memories," Peck said. "That's where I got my ears pierced. And we went past Adornetto's where I went on my first date when I was 16. And I remember going to see "Titanic" when it first came out over here. Zanesville's been a pretty big part of my life. It's where we would come to go shopping, out to eat, do everything."
Her performance included cover tracks like Stevie Nicks' "Landslide" and Tom Petty's "Won't Back Down."
"All my family is here," Peck said. "I'm going to spend a day or two in Coshocton and everyone else is going back (to Nashville). The bus is leaving me."

Scary songs
Oct 24th, 2009 | By Ian Poulton | Category: Personal Columns
Watching Stevie Nicks sing Rhiannon on a 1976 recording, an old insecurity resurfaced: the sense that there was a sophisticated and streetwise world out there that was forever beyond the understanding of a hickey kid from nowhere. The insecurity even got a name a few years ago, in our house, it became called ‘Midnight Train to Georgia Syndrome’.
The great soul singer, Gladys Knight sang Midnight Train to Georgia in 1973, it made it to No 1 in the US charts. It told of a man who had gone to Los Angeles in search of fame and fortune, but his dreams hadn’t come true and he was returning to the rural life of the Deep South from which he had come. The opening lines of the song go like this:
L.A. proved too much for the man
So he’s leavin’ the life he’s come to know
He said he’s goin’ back to find what’s left of his world
The world he left behind not so long ago
He’s leavin’ on that midnight train to Georgia
Said he’s goin’ back to find the simpler place and time.
Stevie Nicks became emblematic of a world that was too much for a teenager who struggled to understand the culture beyond his native West Country. In a year dropped out of college, a Fleetwood Mac album that has long since disappeared was played again and again on an old mono record player left by housemates who had gone to India. The side on which Rhiannon appeared must have been nearly worn away by the heavy stylus’ repeated circuits of the vinyl. It wasn’t even the lyrics, the song could have been sung in a foreign language and it would have made no difference, it was the sound of the guitars and Nicks’ voice that combined to become eerily haunting.
Haunting things are a problem, they defy articulation, they defy definition. If it was possible to explain why certain things evoked certain thoughts, then they would lose their power. The opening bars of the song hit the pit of the stomach; in the way that some anthems can make the hairs on the back of one’s neck stand on end, so some songs seem to have a physical quality about them.
Perhaps an analyst would suggest some deep unresolved problem, not that one would talk to a doctor about 1970s music, but there was a sudden impulse to find Gladys Knight, to escape whatever dark shadows there are in the winding corridors of the subconscious.
Maybe it would be better to go to the toilets when they do that song at the concert tonight.
Nostalgia is not always good for you.

Things Learned About Stevie Nicks After Visiting Her Official Website
By Jess McGuire on October 26, 2009 at 1:07 PM
Don’t think that I’ve calmed down when it comes to my Stevie Nicks obsession just because I’ve travelled half-way around world and can’t stop listening to Miike Snow repeatedly, oh no. I still plan on making Stevie adopt me when she comes to Australia, and my new life goal is to organise a successful Fleetwood Mac tribute night (an aside: Darren Hayes, The Drones, Kylie Minogue, Eddy Current Suppression Ring – get in touch!)
I thought I’d go and frolic through Stevie’s official website, and look what I found – an ‘Ask Stevie’ section! The most recent question answered is in regards to Sheryl Crow’s breast cancer diagnosis which makes me think it may not be the most up to date list of Nicks-answered queries, but whatever. I have perused the 145 questions and answers, and here are some things I happened to learn about the divine Miss N.
STEVIE HAS A WINNING SPIRIT!
When asked what she thought got her through the difficult times, Stevie answered “I don’t like to lose, and that winning spirit has taken me thru most of my difficult times.” Top that, Anthony Robbins. Also, it’s interesting to note that Stevie spells “through” as “thru”. I am considering adopting this spelling as a tribute to her even though in the past it’s something that has made me feel a bit punchy.
STEVIE LOVES TO SLOW DANCE!
Says Stevie “I like to slow dance whenever possible, I even slow dance by myself during my solo shows!” I am considering taking up solo slow dancing as a tribute to her even though in the past it’s something that has made me feel a bit like a dick.
STEVIE FINDS AMERICAN IDOL HILARIOUS!
Stevie admits “I do watch it sometimes, I think it’s very funny, and if I was a judge I would be Simon Cowell!
GOODY STEVIE THINKS MYSPAZZ IS THE DEVIL!
“I think they are evil. Seriously, I think myspace.com has the potential to be a very dangerous site.” I am considering deleting my MySpazz page as a tribute to her even though in the past it’s something that has led to really shit bands I don’t care about thoughtfully wishing me a happy birthday on the 7th March.
STEVIE’S TASTE IN TELLY AND MUSIC IS KINDA WORRYING!
Her favourite television show is Judging Amy and her favourite band is Maroon 5. I think I can deal with that. After all, she’s Stevie fucking Nicks, she can watch and listen to whatever she damn well likes.
STEVIE WOULD BE A VERY GOOD BEAUTY PAGEANT CONTESTANT!
“If I had one wish, it would be for world peace….” reveals Stevie. I am considering cancelling my Al Quaeda membership even though in the past it’s something that has ensured I have a place to crash whenever I visit Afghanistan.
Stevie Nicks, I love you more than ever.

Michael Montlack loved Stevie Nicks as a gay icon long before she became an international hero to millions of gay men, including drag queens who love the scarves and the long skirts that are her signature style.
In his anthology, “My Diva,” Montlack writes about how he connected to Nicks as a gay boy seeking his true identity and how she is his “diva” — just one of 65 in the book of essays where other gay men describe their diva inspirations.
“She was like my fairy godmother,” said Montlack, professor of English at Berkeley College in New York City. “I could escape through her. She taught me how to veil myself.”
As a gay boy and a young man coming out, Montlack was not interested in musicals, for example, like other gay men. But through the lyrics, voice and style of rocker Stevie Nicks, he was able to find a connection that shaped him into the gay man he is today.
His interest in Nicks led him years ago to write a poem about her, which eventually led to an essay. Encouragement from a friend to get it published — which it was — made him realize there was a market for gay men to express their love for certain women who inspired them.
“My Diva,” which includes divas from Sappho to Princess Leia, is featured at this year’s third annual Atlanta Queer Literary Festival, slated for Nov. 4-7. A reading from the book including Montlack and other contributors is set for Nov. 5 at Outwrite Bookstore & Coffeehouse.
“When I came out, who knew she would become a gay icon,” Montlack said of Nicks.
“When I was young, I felt like I took a lot of heat because I didn’t like musicals … and I was always defending myself for liking Stevie Nicks. Now there’s the famous ‘Night of 1,000 Stevies,’” he added with a laugh.

[This guy was captivated by the same Wild Heart footage that so many here love]
From an article on Sin Fan Bous
http://www.straight.com/article-266435/sin-fang-bous-makes-his-own-rules-clangour
Sin Fang Bous’s aesthetic is arguably similar to that of some of Beck Hansen’s work. Sigfússon says he’s a big fan of Beck’s Sea Change, but what’s really inspiring him these days is Fleetwood Mac, and some of Stevie Nicks’s solo work. “I was, like, obsessed with one thing I saw on the Internet, which was a recording of Stevie Nicks rehearsing a song called ‘Wild Heart’,” he says. “I saw it on YouTube. She’s backstage, getting her makeup done or something, and they’re playing this demo track and she’s singing along to it. I thought it sounded really cool.”
So much so, in fact, that Sigfússon plans to record his own version of the song, and he also has covers of Fleetwood Mac’s “Beautiful Child” and “Landslide” in the works. Of course, he has plenty of his own videos up on YouTube. And who knows—maybe Nicks will watch one and return the compliment.

Q. What music is currently on your iPod? Which musicians inspired you?
Oksana Grigorieva:
There was a composer, Alexander Scriabin… and a piece called The Poem of Ecstasy (Le Poème de l’extase). It’s a symphony piece and I think it’s so beautiful. He was kind of overshadowed by Sergei Rachmaninoff, who lived at the same time. And he died at the age of 43, from septicemia. He shaved a pimple and a few months later he was gone. It was so terrible. But I just love his music.
I really like Rachmaninoff: Symphony No. 3, The Rock. It’s one of my favourite pieces of all time. But that’s classical again. I also love Joni Mitchell, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush and Elton John. I love Elton John. Stevie Nicks’ voice is so striking as well.

“Oh!” I exclaimed, sudden and joyful. “You mean COCAINE!”
The entire carriage went silent. I did not get the cocaine. I did get to keep the balloon, though.
Amazingly, I was also, finally, offered the naughtiest drug of all — heroin — although the circumstances were not how I thought they would be at all. I’d always fancied that it would occur in some velvet-swagged hotel room, proffered by some hair-swagged rock star, and that somehow I would have turned into beautiful Stevie Nicks by that point.
In fact, it happened in a horrible pub in Camden, was presented by a member of a certain boy band who were a bit like the Showaddywaddy of Britpop, and I was still, very much, just me.
“I’ve just found a wrap on the floor in the toilets,” the bloke said, handing me a frankly filthy paper packet. “I think it’s smack. You can have it if you want.” And then, remembering that I was a journalist: “And thanks for all your support!”

Last night I kicked in my Stevie Nicks "Timespace" greatest hits CD and caught a little rockstar with "Stand Back." I woke up singing it this morning and did a little YouTube'ing and found this pearl. I'm probably going to get smacked for saying this, but I'm going to say it anyway because that's the Robby way: I love me some 3-pack-a-day, Klonipin poppin' cocaine snortin' Stevie Nicks. Not that I don't love me some clean and sober Stevie too - obviously that's a much better, desired condition. But the powder keg power of the untamed version exposes a high level of creative magic.

anyways enough ranting, today i have mostly been listening to stevie nicks - edge of seventeen. i was watching a documentary about fleetwood mac last night, and they had this on it and it reminded me how great a song it is. the first time i became aware of stevie nicks and fleetwood mac was when i was about 15 and i used to go round to my friends house and we would sometimes listen to some of his parents old record collection., that how i first heard stevie nicks and her unique, gravelly voice.
if you don't like this song, call an ambulance because there is something seriously wrong with you and you need to get yourself checked out by a doctor. :-)
take care my friend.

Remember Stevie? How sexy is she singing this(Live Rhiannon from Midnight Special-1976)...lmao, someone on another site reminded me - a revisit. She is drug induced I'm sure.
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo !!!!!

Ya think!? lol
Still, she is smoking "Hot" what a voice. Kinda like when the kids refer to a wave as "Sick"....
oh, now i get why they say stevie nicks sounds like a goat.

That song (Rhiannon) is quite possibly the worst pile of shit ever committed to magnetic tape.
It's funny how people of a certain age gripe about modern female pop stars and their lack of talent, when non singers like her and a few others were such a big deal in the 70s and 80s.
If hell truly exists, I'm sure they have Fleetwood Mac playing in heavy rotation on the house PA.

Mac Factor
Given that Luella is a huge fan of Stevie Nicks (she even named her daughter Stevie), it was only right the Fleetwood Mac singer should meet the designer when she was in town on tour. Despite Luella’s ardent admiration – you can certainly spot the personal style influences (sparkly pendants, blonde fringe, a penchant for gold Lurex thread) – the pair had never met before. We stole this snap of them as they finally made their introductions. Apparently, they plan to hit the flea markets together in Paris next week. Altogether now: “I want to be with you everywhere.”

Har Mar Superstar stepped the stage in a flowing crimson shawl. Through the set's first few songs, which included "DUI" and "Cut Me Up" off of The Handler as well as a few cuts from his most recent full length Dark Touches, the whirling dynamo bore an uncomfortable, mesmerizing resemblance to Stevie Nicks. His backing band, which featured Jeff Quinn from local three-piece His Mischief, was dressed in all white, standing as uniform and stately as H & M mannequins.

It’s funny to me, that every time I am in crisis mode of any sort in my life…I always gravitate back to the music and poetry of Stevie Nicks. It’s like…somewhere in what she writes…I find ME…that part of me that longs, that yearns, that dreams, that WANTS to reach for me. And yet that girl…that young girl…she’s buried so deep within me that I can’t REACH her anymore. I feel myself stretching my arms to her and trying desperately to grab hold of her hands, but she won’t reach BACK to me. She just sits there…a semi-blank stare on her face. The only emotion I see there is sorrow, and she’s looking sadly at me as though I have betrayed her and she no longer trusts me. I promised her so many things throughout the course of our life, and I never made good on the promises. And now…she resents me, a little, and grieves…a lot. And she is far too fearful of more heartache to reach back to me. But she sits and listens to Stevie too. And I hear her humming…she’s still hungry…she still wants more, but she doesn’t trust ME to feed her.

^ Yes, I second that.
Check out this quote that's furthur down in that blog post:
In my mind…I am like Stevie…twirling across that stage, draped in chiffon and lace, the free spirit, abandoning my fears, pouring my heart out, touching thousands of people, letting them know that they are LOVED…that someone cares deeply for them…singing their stories…telling the world that THEY matter. Has anyone ever written anything for you? Yes…someone has. And I hear her singing. She touches my bruised and battered heart with the gentleness of butterfly’s wing, and in that touch…I begin to heal.
I don't even know who this person is, but I kinda teared up when I read that. :/

Me and Stevie
Last night a major realisation hit me. With a THUNK.
I have a Stevie Nicks alter ego I've really never analysed until now. But it's really there, lurking...
Yes I am a big Fleetwood Mac fan. There's a copy of both Rumours and Tango In The Night in my car and actually I think the song Everywhere and its video are what spurred me to write romance in the first place. I just love that vid. Did I mention my secret thing for Highwaymen (and don't even get me onto my teen obsession with Baroness Orczy and crush on the Scarlet Pimpernel...but I digress).
So after X Factor I switched over to a music channel's Fleetwood Mac roundup. And suddenly it hit me.
I want to be 'Stevie Nicks'. Blonde (check always wanted that); wearer of romantic gypsy style clothes and long boots, frilly petticoats and perhaps even strange hats with feathers in (check perhaps because I've always been a jeans wearer there's a deep secret part of me that longs to dress up in a wispy butterfly dress and maybe even a velvet corset with BIG HAIR and just go for it...ggg). Anyway. Perhaps that's why I write romance...I have this inner 'ethereal' crazy woman whom I've never given full control to. Because she scares me...
And possibly would scare passers-by too.
So I keep my inner 'Stevie' repressed...Well, I mean. Who wants to go to Sainsbury's with mermaid hair and a velvet cloak especially with kids in tow?
Anybody else got any embarrassing alter egos? Or perhaps you have an unworn velvet cloak in the cupboard too...? Go on...fess up!

People are impressed that you know someone who writes books (or at least books that they've heard of). But this is only because they don't know the writer in question. If they did, they would just roll their eyes. And should they happen to subsequently meet your writer it will end badly for you. I once had a friend pay me a visit and bring along someone I didn't know. It turned out this person was just dying to meet my friend's writer friend. That would be me. And apparently I was not what she was hoping for. At one point during the long, tedious afternoon I overheard her whisper to my friend, "I thought he would have nicer furniture."
I know a few other writers, some of whom people have actually heard of. Occasionally it will come out that I know So-and-so, and not just in a "we have the same publisher" kind of way. Inevitably the person who hears this asks, "What is he really like?" Even people who should know better ask this. And I always say to them something I heard a friend of Stevie Nicks say she tells people who ask her what Stevie is really like: "She's exactly the way you think she is."
Because the illusion is what makes knowing so much better than being. Being involves, well, being. Knowing gives you all the benefits of being associated with fabulousness but without any of the icky stuff that comes with it. You don't have to actually write the books or make the movies or go to rehab, you just have to know the person who does. And that's really what most people care about. If you tell them you know a prostitute*, for example, they will more often than not think that you're a daring sort who leads a very interesting life. Tell them that you are a prostitute, however, and now you're just a whore who has crashed the party.
I have to get back to being a writer now. Try not to get too excited about it. I wouldn't want to disappoint you.

Outside of the realm of CCM, Michael W. Smith is best known as the guy who gave us "Place In This World" which became a high school graduation song favorite throughout the 90s. He also had another minor hit in 1992, "I Will Be Here For You" which I remember kind of liking in spite of myself. Despite these dabblings, I never really liked him all that much because the nasal quality of his voice really turned me off (says the Stevie Nicks fan).

This article claims that women with masculine names are more successful and make more money.
http://www.townsvillebulletin.com.au/article/2009/11/13/93451_savvy.html
I think it's funny because it includes Stevie and also Lindsay Lohan. I guess Lindsey will be glad to know that someone else thinks his name is actually masculine. I think Lindsey was considered a male name maybe 50 years ago, but not now.
Hollywood, the music industry and the international catwalk have reflected the trend for masculine names over recent years with some of their hugest female stars: supermodels such as Jerry Hall, singers such as Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac fame, and actresses including Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, Lindsay Lohan and Teri Hatcher (who named her daughter Emerson).

Strangest concert I've never been to
I just had a strange dream, so I had to share it with you immediately while it's still fresh in my mind. My roommate and I went to this free concert headlined by Bruce Springsteen. We didn't get to see Bruce, but Bob Marley was there. Bob looked great, like he never aged (and never died). He put on a thrilling show. After the show, we went back to my mom's house and I told my brothers about the show. I told them about Bob Marley and how great he looked. I showed my brother Robert a picture of Bob online. He said that Bob must work out to look that good. We looked at the promotional flyer, which stated that Michael Jackson (also not dead), Stevie Nicks, Rush, and Asia were also performing at the show. My brother Donny said there were still 2 hours left of the show, and if we hurried, we could catch the rest of it.
So, we went back. Stevie Nicks took the stage, but she looked like an 80s pop star, like Madonna in a white dress and legwarmers. She had a band of men behind her, and she and her band did choreography to some strange disco song. The men sang with her, and some of them got to sing solos. Stevie messed up the dance moves a couple times. After the song, Stevie said a few words, but one of her band members also had a microphone and interrupted her. When the next song began, Stevie walked off the stage and drifted through the audience and walked up to where my roommate and I were sitting. Her appearance had changed. Now she was short and stout with a big, bountiful bosom, and she looked exactly like my mom. She approached me, put her hands gently on my face, and said, "Hello." I was so stunned that I was lost for words. I said, "Hello, Stevie. How are you?" I was scrambling to think of what to say next. I thought that I should tell her that I liked the Trouble in Shangri-La album, but before I could say anything, she hugged me and embedded my face in her boobs. She then turned around and looked at my roommate, pulled out the chair directly across from me, got on her knees and looked downward, like she was praying or something.

Remember Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova from the movie “Once“? They starred in the hit film together, won an Oscar for Best Song, had a bestselling soundtrack. They even got together in real life. It seems so long ago now, 2007. Time flies!
Well, they’re back, only they split as a couple. Glen tells me they’re “just friends.” They’re now called The Swell Season. They’re sort of like Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham. And they’ve got a new, terrific album called “Strict Joy.” The first single should be a hit if, you know, radio stations still played music by people over 12. It’s called “Low Rising.”

But I have a confession. As Little Bird and I drove to Chapel Hill yesterday listening to 101.5 and their 24/7 Christmas music, I just couldn't get into it. Some of it had to do with their horrific choices (please, God, why did you let Stevie Nicks record "Silent Night"?), but most of it had to do with the heat, humidity, and the fact that I hadn't made my 20 gallon stock pot of turkey stock yet.

Driving in the car with my kids this morning a Miley Cyrus song came on the radio. I started to change the channel and I was verbally attacked. “STOP!” they cried, “We LIKE that song!” I turned to my daughter, age 17, surely a voice of reason. “Seriously?” I asked her. I mean, I get #1son and #2son liking it. It’s pop music and they’re 5 and 6. “Yeah,” she said to me with a look that said she was more than ready to defend her position.
I don’t get it. And quite frankly, I’ve never gotten it. Even way back in the day of Fleetwood Mac. I loved Fleetwood Mac. But Stevie Nicks? Her voice sounds like a cigar smoking chipmunk to me. (Uh-oh. I just lost a few readers I fear. Thanks for stopping by!) When I hear her version of Silent Night on the album “A Very Special Christmas” it’s like nails on a chalkboard to me. How dare she massacre such a sacred song?
But then, I liked Rush. And Geddy Lee’s vocal quality isn’t exactly pure. Or Janis Joplin. Or Kim Carnes. Or Bon Scott of AC/DC. Even Susanna Hoffs of The Bangles had a touch of that chipmunk quality. But I could listen to her without cringing. What was it about Stevie Nicks that bothered me so? And what was the secret to her mass appeal?

And speaking of uncomfy...
The other strange song I've heard is an acoustic cover of "Crash" (the Dave Matthews tune) by Stevie Nicks.
Whaaaaaa--?
Yes.
Stevie Nicks trying her hardest to get through a song about a peeping tom (at least that's how I've always interpreted it)... She skips the parts about hiking up your skirt. And pretty much everything except "I see the wave coming, crash into me." It's like she heard the song... didn't really get it and tried to sing it as a karaoke tune.
Didn't quite work out.

Here is my submission for Barb's latest challenge over at Haunted Design House.
The theme was "Witchy Woman", and immediately Stevie Nicks popped into my head. I've been a fan since the early eighties and have always heard rumors of the beloved Stevie being a witch and that she made a deal with the devil for her fame as her voice has been a bit suspect by some.
No matter to me, Stevie has always had a bit of a witchy mystique that I have admired and even wanted to emulate in my younger years.
This little page might be a nice addition to my "Scrapbook of Me", that I plan to make some day.
I wanted to add this little song snippet from the Eagles song cause I thought it was fitting ('cept for the raven hair part).

Major Stars
Return To Form
(Drag City)
What happens when Stevie Nicks joins Black Sabbath? Alas, nothing good. Major Stars has gone and shat some 40-odd minutes of someone's high school basement rehearsal tape all over a perfectly good CD, not only without apology but with the expectation that you will actually buy this from them. They have succeeded only in creating an abomination in the eyes of Apollo, or at best a soundtrack to teenage mullet-grooming in a trailer bathroom that doubles as a meth lab. Their songs are composed of thinly-disguised classic rock riffs peppered with arbitrary, self-indulgent time changes and descents into ill-conceived sonic pastiches of guitar feedback. The vocals ride that low vibrato that's so Nicks, but also showcase awkward, amateurish phrasing and cadence, and seem modeled after those of the worst male metal singers (Creed, anyone?). The only place they will likely be major stars is in their dreams. —Tom Sturm

In 2001, Stevie Nicks released Trouble In Shangri-La. I definitely do not think that anyone expected a decent album from her at that point. I know it took me by surprise. It may not have had a monster smash hit single like "Stand Back" or "Edge Of Seventeen," but I will say that it is her best solo album ever. Part of it is that the album was partly produced by Sheryl Crow, who I think was more motivated to make a great Stevie album, than (maybe) making her own album. Not that Sheryl didn't care about her own music, but she really wanted to do Stevie justice, and on the song "Sorcerer," she does. I think that helped the rest of the album, produced by John Shanks, to be really great. She was also coming off of the huge success of the Fleetwood Mac song "Silver Springs," which the band rejected from Rumours, and which became a humongous hit on their reunion album The Dance. I don't have a total theory for this one, Stevie just had "it" back.

Tom Petty & Stevie Nicks, Insider
This baby right here is the song that made me suggest the challenge of killer duets. The way Stevie and Tom’s voices go together makes my heart hurt. They both sound so broken-hearted in this song. After I mentioned this song in the shuffle thread, McLovin said that Tom wrote it for Stevie to record, but when she got it she knew it was an amazing song and thought it was only fair to give it back to Tom, and they ended up making a duet out of it. I’m so glad they did. For some reason I like to listen to it really loud.

Marilyn Martin (born on May 4, 1954 in Tennessee, raised in Louisville, Kentucky) was a female pop singer from the mid 80's. Marilyn started her career by singing backup for artists such as Joe Walsh, Don Henley, Kenny Loggins, and Stevie Nicks.
When Doug Martin (former head of Atlantic Records) heard Marilyn sing backup on Stevie Nicks' 1985 album, "Rock A Little," he was impressed quite enough to ask for a demo from Marilyn. After that, Marilyn was signed to Atlantic Records for a 2-album contract. During 1985, Marilyn was connected with Phil Collins for the song, "Separate Lives" which was featured on the "White Nights" movie soundtrack. The song hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her highest and most notable hit song to date.
In 1986, Marilyn released her self-titled debut album which peaked at #72 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Her first solo single, "Night Moves" peaked at #28 on the Billboard Hot 100 and also managed to peak at #18 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock charts.
The follow-up singles, "Body and the Beat" and "Move Closer" were released, but failed to make any impact on the Billboard charts at all.
In 1988, Marilyn released her sophomore album, "This is Serious" which didn't chart at all on the Billboard 200 chart.
The first single from the album, "Possessive Love" (which was written and produced by Madonna) failed to make an impact on the charts. The follow-up single, "Love Takes No Prisoners" didn't fair well either. After that, Marilyn was released from her contract with Atlantic Records.
Marilyn continued her music career by singing backup vocals for other artists throughout the 90's. Today, Marilyn now works as a realtor in Nashville, Tennessee.

Looks like Atlantic Records really tried to make a star out of Marilyn Martin but the public just wasn't interested. They never mentioned her covering Sorceror which got some airplay from the Streets of Fire Sountrack. Her duet with Phill Collins was a big hit though, at the time of its release.

As celebrity visits go, Renee Zellweger still wins in my book. She visited the hospital last year and stayed from 1100 until nearly midnight (much to the chagrin of her hospital escorts), visiting and posing for photos with just about every patient who wanted to meet her – not just the injured soldiers. She called the kids of one soldier so they’d believe him when he said she was here. She spent about 30 minutes in each solder’s room. She was also generous with her time in posing with staff for pics. I have only seen Stevie Nicks once as I was going off shift, but she’s another one who is usually there still making the rounds at midnight. But Ms Palin wins out over a lot of them who, as a co-worker explained to Ms Zellweger, show up and basically say, “I’m famous. Your injured. Take my picture!” and, having done their good deed, leave. President Obama was at the hospital recently, but sadly I was not working that day.

Open Question »
How did Stevie Nicks become famous?
I don't hate her, but I don't like her voice. She sounds like a goat to me.
What was it that made her famous?
10 hours ago- 4 days left to answer.
Additional Details
I know she was in Fleetwood Mac. But I don't get how she could become so famous with her voice. It just plain sucks, IMHO

Greetings,
I would like to put together a huge tribute show for spring of next year and looking for a very talented band with vocals to back me in a Stevie/Fleetwood Mac tribute project. I'm wanting my project to last an hr to an hr and a half on stage as I will be showcasing other tribute bands in a live concert in the Denver/Aspen/Vail areas. I guess I am picky as I want to bring back Stevie's earlier years so I am not looking for a typical tribute as I am wanting this to be a huge success. SERIOUS REPLIES ONLY!! YOU CAN HEAR A RECENT AUDIO RECORDING OF ME SINGING TO GOLD DUST WOMAN HERE: http://files1.mailboxdrive.com/mp3s/c/charlenecoran@yahoo.com/963921.wma
This is NOT just for one live show - i am looking to book consistent gigs before then and afterwards. I am in talks with a few venues who have agreed to listen to the band's demo for possible booking. I have a feeling this could be a sell-out if myself and the band meshed well together. I am looking to practice one day/night a week for now - could rent a space or if someone knew of a spot that would be great that we could all pitch in to pay for. I found something in Lafayette that charges $25 an hr that's fully equipped. I am known for being part of an annual NYC event called 'Night of a 1000 Stevie's' (2006-2008). I was 1 of up to 30 performers chosen out of the U.S to sing to a 1000 Stevie Nicks fans. I missed this year due financial difficulties. I really would like to see this happen out here in Colorado which was the main reason I moved out here a year ago.
Possible Song List - Astericks are what I really want to work on:
*Rhiannon - Extended Version Fleetwood Mac
*Outside The Rain - Stevie Nicks (going into) Dreams - Fleetwood Mac
*Gold Dust Woman - Fleetwood Mac
*The Chain - Fleetwood Mac
Landslide - Fleetwood Mac
Sara - Fleetwood Mac
*Stop Dragging My Heart Around - Tom Petty/Stevie Nicks
*World Turning - Fleetwood Mac
*Go Your Own Way - Fleetwood Mac
Rock A Little - Stevie Nicks
*Gypsy - Fleetwood Mac
Would love to do Kim Carnes - Bette Davis Eyes - lol
Stand Back - Stevie Nicks
*Gold - Stevie Nicks/John Stewart
*Sorcerer - Stevie Nicks
Beauty & The Beast - Stevie Nicks
Loves A Hard Game To Play - Stevie Nicks
Edge of Seventeen - Stevie Nicks (As an Encore Performance Only)
Thousand Days - Stevie Nicks
*Battle of The Dragon - Stevie Nicks
*Tusk - Fleetwood Mac
*Sisters of The Moon - Fleetwood Mac
Peacekeeper - Newer Fleetwood Mac
I need costume changing so would need either a Christine McVie or Lindsey Buckingham solo songs:
Songbird
Everywhere
Hold Me
Bleed To Love Her
You Make Loving Fun
Oh Daddy
Never Going Back Again
Second Hand News
Big Love
If interested, please email me for more details!

Guess the Random Lyric: Me=1 1/2; You = 3 1/2
filed in Guess the Random Lyric on Dec.14, 2009
You guys have really got to start appreciating Ms. Stevie Nicks more, b/c none of you guessed that Friday’s lyric was from her song, “Stand Back.” For shame! And even worse, the point came too late for me to win.
It should be noted that GTRL is going on holiday hiatus starting next Monday, so this is your last challenge of not only the year, but also the decade, so let’s make this count with our Holiday Song Challenge!
First up, Showtune Monday. Not sure if this musical was ever on Broadway, but I try to watch it every holiday if I can, and this is my favorite song from it, even though it has nothing to do with Christmas. I’ll take the song and the two male leads OR the song and the composer for the point.

The four artists who join Elvis Costello this week for SPECTACLE’s second annual “guitar pull” are all extraordinary singers and exceptional songwriters. But with all due respect to Neko Case, Ron Sexsmith, and Jesse Winchester, only one of them has been able to strike the balance that Elvis describes as the ability to have “huge commercial successes, but put heart and soul and smarts in them as well.” This master of creative juggling is Sheryl Crow.
It has now been more than fifteen years since the former music teacher from Kennett, Missouri made the leap from background singer (most notably, as part of Michael Jackson’s touring band) to A-List frontperson with 1993’s Tuesday Night Music Club. That album, which was recently reissued in an expanded two-CD edition, sold over seven million copies and won Crow the first three of her long list of Grammy Awards—though, as she tells Elvis, the album’s breakthrough hit, “All I Wanna Do,” almost didn’t make the final cut.
In a way, her seemingly sudden success has caused some listeners to overlook the caliber and consistency of Crow’s music. “When I came out with ‘All I Wanna Do,’ a lot of people felt I was just some pop diva,” she told me last year. “Most people still think that.” Other artists, though, certainly appreciate her work; she has shared stages and studios with Kid Rock, the Rolling Stones, Johnny Cash, and many more. “She has a wonderful ability to make words work, to phrase, to really build a song,” her friend and frequent collaborator Stevie Nicks once said.
Perhaps Crow’s greatest strength also sometimes presents an obstacle—her role as one of very few artists capable of bridging numerous musical worlds, from old-school rock snarl to contemporary hooks, from country to folk to radio-ready pop. Over the course of her six albums, sometimes this has even created a bit of confusion about her own musical identity (back in 2002, she told me that “I had gotten so far away from who I am that I didn’t know who I was writing for”), but it adds up to a career that long ago should have silenced all of her early skeptics.
“There are the older, real classic rock stars, and then the rest of us fall somewhere between that and the readymade pop stars,” she has said. “We’re really in some no-man’s land. We just have to wait, and I guess maybe we’ll get that respect when it’s time to retire.” For Sheryl Crow, that respect is long overdue.

To the gypsy......That remains.....
Stevie Nicks is the gypsy that remains. She is 68 and is still as alluring and mystical as ever. Like so many fashion followers Miss Nicks has been a style icon for me for some time however having recently seen her up close and personal on tour my knees have become even more weaker for her.
The Fleetwood Mac concerto was an absolute blast as every song was an old favourite but despite the epic rock god guitar and drum solos Stevie certainly took the lime light. She had costume changes every few songs which kept me and every other follower more than entertained. Stevie's words and voice were incredibly charismatic but, her personal style is also so appealing. She still channels this witchy street urchin look which she has coined as her own and when the famous artful dodgeresque top hat came out I was ecstatic. She adds dangling scarfs and beads to her microphone stand, her gloves and her tambourine which gives her performance such a personalised touch.
I may explore her look personally... no Velvet corset dresses for me however. I mean mainly just personalised embellishments to dance and play around with at night. Yes that's right watch out! She also had a lot of lace as finishing touches. I love lace. I am going to raid my Nana's place. Oops that rhymed.
Okay, Stevie Nicks shopping list:
lace (pinched from 1 Grandma lane, Grandmaville)
beads (is that great bead shop still at the rocks?)
ribbon
top hat (too far?)
tambourine (definitely too far but ooh so necessary)
tumultuous and controversial love life
I also thought it was worth noting that at the end of the concert the moon exploded to a gigantic size and was the colour of Mars. Despite the intensive Red wine consumption that day i used my highly scientific and logical mind and attributed this to three possible reasons:
Mars was hurtling towards us in an unprecedented Planet turf war.
I had drank so much red wine that it had leaked into my eyes and everything was going to be a pleasant shade of rose from then on.
Stevie really was a witch and had conjured it up to close the show on a sexy, mystical note.
Yeah believe it it. Anywho I went with reason three.

A Christmas Tale
It must be because I started housesitting last night and was completely distracted by that.
Let me begin by saying I’m staying in Christmas Village (in the Hollywood Hills)
My friend, Stevie Nicks, has left for Egypt for the Holidays and I’m the responsible friend who was left in charge.
I walk into her abode and am absolutely assaulted by a Christmas party that hasn’t ended. Beyond the tree and presents and wall and ceiling decorations, I see a catering table has been brought out for her holiday figurines and miniature village!
To my right, I see a three tiered desert platter of leftover Christmas cookies and cupcakes from a gala that ended two days ago!
I see boxes from Tiffany and Dom Perignon and big boxes of fancy purses, under her tree in disarray.
I see many Gold records on the wall and I covet them.
There are mirrors on every square inch of this house. I feel self conscious.
So, I set the alarm and head to shower, as I am exhausted.
While soaping up, I realize I didn’t bring any shampoo.
I look to the window sill to see 7 different types of desert flavored body washes greeting me. Pumpkin Pie, Frosting Delight, Sugar and Spice, Twisted Peppermint.
They literally smell like pureed Christmas. So, in the middle of dumping a candy factory on my head, I realize it’s getting hot in there!
Opening the window, I realize I’ve made a BIG mistake.
The cursed alarm goes off and it’s LOUD!!
Running out of the shower with soap in my eyes, I grab the nearest towel which is a Santa emblazoned dish towel!!
Running to the alarm box, desperately trying to remember the code, I begin pressing numbers, which are all incorrect!
After I’ve shut everything off (now, I’m subject to potential rape sans alarm system) and I’m resting comfortably, watching the history of the Secret Service on tv when there’s a knock at the door.
A large woman with pink hair, dressed in bright colors and smelling of patchouli and perhaps a day late bathing, walks in.
I recognize her as she lives in my apartment building. She’s a friend of Stevie’s who will also be house-sitting.
“Mind some company?”
One of those frustrating questions that you can rarely say “no” to.
So, for the next three hours, we watch a documentary on boot camp.
I deal with her laughing excessively at her own jokes, staring at me to ensure I do the same.
I handle her hand being placed on my leg or arm with each comment.
I endure her incense odor.
My body language says “please go home now”
But she, being psychic, does not pick up on this.
The next morning, I leave the house, not sure I set the alarm properly.
As I get to the bottom of the hill, I see an alarm company van race past me up the very same hill.
Shit.

The Greatest Letter to the Editor Ever Written, Part 1 (the part that's not about the letter to the editor)
I checked out the Rolling Stone Top 100 Songs of the Decade list today. Now, my Stone subscription expired some time around my 16th birthday; I've been away from the magazine and its female belly button-obsessed covers for over half my life. But I was trying to figure out how far my tastes had strayed from that of the magazine which, during my formative years, taught me so many important life lessons with its coded language and seemingly off-the-cuff asides by its subversive writers.
Read any feature article from the 1977-1983 RS era and every sordid rumor you've heard about that odd twitchy era could be found there. Stevie Nicks and her drug problems. Warren Zevon and his codependence issues with women. Steely Dan and their druggy codependence issues with each other, Lindsey Buckingham and his Stevie Nicks problem, etc. - they're all discreetly addressed, usually in an article's last few column inches.

At a quick glance, this record looks like nothing but a collection of hits, but these are all hits for a reason, they’re really all just that damn good. This was the album that gave us all a good glimpse of what Stevie Nicks is capable of. And even Christine McVie’s tracks are good on this album.

Best year for mystic lady rock: In a secret ceremony in a northern wood, Kate Bush and Stevie Nicks got together and let out a siren call, audible only to other mystic ladies-in-training. Not only did we have Bat for Lashes’ “Two Suns,” a lunar romance partially birthed at Joshua Tree, but Bat for Lashes bandmate Caroline Weeks came out with the gorgeously fragile “Songs for Edna.” Closer to home, Warpaint is readying their mysterious psychedelia for a debut album in 2010 from Rough Trade Records.

Is Stevie Nicks Right For Attacking Britney Spears Singing Talent?
Stevie Nicks said that Britney Spears is the worst female singer ever and shes killing today’s pop music by using sex to sell records.
Stevie Nicks also said that in today’s music sex sells more than singing talent that’s why Britney Spears is killing today’s music because real true great singers like Aretha Franklin and Pink are over looked for sex appeal lip singers like Britney Spears.

It is overwhelmingly obvious that Britney Spears’ vocals are ghosted by uncredited professional singer(s), and she’s not the only one.

Can you provide a link to those statements? Because I can’t find anything like that. In fact, I highly doubt Stevie Nicks said any of those things. I see where she said Britney isn’t a real rock star because she didn’t pay her dues in a band. That seems like a foolish statement as I hardly think Britney Spears is considered a rock star to begin with.
Anyways, Britney Spears would not be the first person in music to go the sex sells route. And didn’t that Susan Boyle just sell a ton of records?

Around the time the new millennium rolled around, I discovered something that turned my love for the music of Stevie Nicks into a full-fledged obsession: I found her fan-generated web page. Not only did I learn then that there was a whole community of people who shared love for her music, I could go back and read every article ever published, every interview she ever gave. It was a treasure trove for the musically obsessed mind. It was around this time that Napster was gaining user momentum, and I was thrilled to discover I could obtain rare demos and live recordings from the cyber-community of music fans.

24. “Butterfly Fly Away”
I loved this little moment in Hannah Montana: The Movie. I would've loved it more if they had just let her sing "live" instead of defaulting to a recording, since that would've made the scene more alive, but this delicate song was very nice. I never noticed before how much Miley Cyrus sounds like Stevie Nicks. Maybe that’s a small part of the reason I like her so much. My dad loved Stevie Nicks, and I used to hear a lot of her when I was a little kid, particularly the Bella Donna album.

In her June 7 review, the Free Press's Melissa Martin awarded the Fleetwood Mac concert at the MTS Centre four out of five stars. Tim Magas, a postal carrier who collects anything/everything associated with the band's ethereal vocalist, Stevie Nicks, gave it a significantly higher grade.
A story about Magas's Nicks-knacks ran the same day as the show ("Nicks Fix," June 6). "I haven't seen Stevie since they played here; they just finished their European tour and are now in Australia," says Magas, who, to date, has seen Nicks perform live on 19 separate occasions.
During the last few months, Magas has added T-shirts, hoodies and tuques to his mix, but his newest Nicks-related item doesn't exactly fall under the category "officially licensed merchandise."
"Michael wanted to get a third dog but I didn't," Magas says, referring to his partner. "To coerce me, he said I could name it anything I wanted. Well, (four) weeks ago, our new dog came home from the Humane Society and yes, I now have a Stevie, and I love her."

There also was a fun side to Larson, who everyone remembered as being a major fan of Fleetwood Mac and singer Stevie Nicks.
Mackey said he would turn his radio up and blast it when Nicks came on the radio.
“That was the part that really just cracked you up, that he was in love with Stevie Nicks,” said Brumfield, adding, “Still waters run deep.”
Mackey said Brumfield was very much a gentleman, “except for that Stevie Nicks thing,” she joked.

Carl Larson: Gentleman supervisorBy Mandy Feder -- News editor
Updated: 01/04/2010 11:23:32 PM PST
Lake County Carl Larson was a private person with strong convictions, according to former District 4 Supervisor Karan Mackey.
"He was a gentleman, conservative and quiet," Mackey said. He was there for his country, his county and his district according to Mackey. "You would see another side of him if you ever rode in his car though. He played Stevie Nicks music full-blast." Mackey said there was a "teenager inside of him."
Former County Supervisor Carl M. Larson died on Sunday at the age of 81.

With the holidays and a monthlong hiatus behind it, the North Island Concert Society unveils the gem of its 2009-10 season this weekend in the form of Double Diamond, a Neil Diamond tribute show fronted by veteran Victoria musician Bill Zaalberg.
The event, which begins at 8 p.m. at Port Hardy Civic Centre, will actually feature two shows in one. The opening act is Tusk, another tribute in which Kathleen Zaalberg, Bill’s daughter-in-law, channels Stevie Nicks in numbers from her solo and Fleetwood Mac collections.

“Never did I mean to imprison you, here in my garden.”
-Running Through the Garden, Fleetwood Mac
There’re people that come to him for many reasons. Sometimes it’s accidental, but it can be purposeful as well. He’s the Doctor. His name is sung across the stars, popping up through history – the man and his blue box. He does no good alone, so he seeks them out just the same. He often needs them more than they do of him. He asks for too much, maybe. Just wants a traveling companion… that’s what it appears to be.
There’s more to it, sometimes. It creeps up and chokes him, the ever-burning darkness of his soul. The truth of what he does to people. Davros and Dalek Caan… they weren’t showing him lies. The Doctor made others do his dirty work for him, trying to make himself look innocent, but oh no he’s so far from it. He’s so very old.
They always leave him. He doesn’t want to cling – that isn’t becoming of him – yet his life is so much more important than theirs. He’s significant. He can do things in the universe! He can make differences! On such grander scales than the little people ever –
He’s the Doctor, with his song rippling through the universe, and he’s so old. Too old. He’s missing the picture that he could once reach out and grasp and feel pleased of who he is. His confidence in that is wavering. The man and his blue box are running across the stars to find his song so that he knows it is still out there. He doesn’t want to go.
Why do they so often say that they will stay with him forever?
They can’t. He can’t keep them. He wants to shut them in the TARDIS and stay with them forever, traveling the stars and showing them everything that their minds would never have dreamed of. His mind is great and vast. These things need to be known and shown and time is running out and there’s no one left he’s alone and it’s too quiet the silence is crushing. He’s never felt as though his hearts were divided, opposites beating around each other.
Forever.
He named a galaxy Alison. It should have been Rose or Martha or Donna – his saviors that made surviving the brutal, hellish war bearable. Donna’s song intertwines with his amongst the stars; he finds it, and he breaks down. His TARDIS sings with it. He keeps running.
Rose and Donna were taken from him. Martha left him.
They never stay, they always go. He’s alone and the darkness aches. He’s done things he isn’t proud of. How far can he run… from himself?
He can’t keep them. He can’t lock them up and keep them safe. “What was I supposed to do?! Wrap her in cotton-wool? Tell her, ‘Here, I could give you the universe, but I’m not going to in case you get hurt’!”
Maybe it’s himself that needs to be locked away, imprisoned. The man and the blue box are far, far too old. Lived too long. He could just… make it simple. Beat out the prophecy. None of this knocking nonsense…
…simple…
But no.
The Doctor runs.

Crawdaddy has an article by Denise Sullivan looking at the legacy of gypsies in rock music, from Cher and Ronstadt to Stevie. Here's an excerpt:
http://www.crawdaddy.com/index.php/2010/01/06/went-to-see-the-gypsy/
The gypsy’s turn in the spotlight continued though things started to turn dark with “Black Magic Woman”, the Fleetwood Mac song popularized by Santana; it was followed by a rash of “evil” and “witchy” woman songs. This is not the gypsy in songs we know and love. The Peter Green-era Fleetwood Mac was famously baked in the blues, so naturally magic would be its domain long before the band had its own resident gypsy in the form of Stevie Nicks, whose own “Gypsy” bears little resonance to any of the previously mentioned songs and was simply a vessel for her magical leanings and twirly dancing. Nicks was, in part, working in the tradition of Cher, the deep-throated and wildly fashioned singer of “Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves” and “Dark Lady”, the fortune queen of New Orleans, two hits packed with gypsy detail.

Rick James put it best: "Cocaine is a hell of a drug." It's highly addictive and destructive and has destroyed countless lives over the years. Like any drug, it causes its users to occasionally go to drastic lengths to get it and use it. That leads us to the case of Stevie Nicks, the singer for Fleetwood Mac, one of the most popular rock bands of the 1970s. The story goes that she became a cocaine user during that time and did it so much that she eventually not only became tolerant to its effects but had a hole in her nose and couldn't snort the cocaine. So she did what any reasonable human being would do: she had a roadie blow it up her ass with a straw.

I read with great interest your piece devoted to the selection of performers for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ["The Genesis of a Progressive Rock Trend?," Jan. 1, by Mike Boehm].
As pointed out, there is clearly an inconsistency and bias in the decision-making process, which has left many deserving artists overlooked year after year.
I agree that the Fifth Dimension are well worthy of consideration and clearly the Monkees' extreme commercial success combined with their teen idol reputation seems to work against them, though in a fair and balanced world they would have been admitted years ago.
However, the Hall of Fame board is particularly guilty of a boy's club mentality that passes over female talent as if they are second-class citizens. How else to explain the absence of trail-blazing singer-songwriter Jackie DeShannon ("Put a Little Love in Your Heart," "Bette Davis Eyes"), who was at the forefront of the folk-rock era, paving the way for later girl rockers like Stevie Nicks and Sheryl Crow.

This is an excerpt from a New York Magazine article about John Edwards and his mistress Rielle Hunter.
http://nymag.com/news/politics/63045/
Brumberger thought that she [Rielle] was trouble from the get-go. She looked like a hybrid of Stevie Nicks and Lucinda Williams, in an outfit more suitable for a Grateful Dead concert than an evening at the Regency. A few minutes later, after Edwards departed for a dinner around the corner, Hunter came back over to Brumberger and started quizzing him about his job. “I think I can help you guys,” she said, and handed him her business card. The inscription read, BEING IS FREE: RIELLE HUNTER—TRUTH SEEKER.

So I find myself diving (as I’ve always wished) into the pop artist/performance artist career. Today I had my first voice lesson with Steve Real-he’s a vocal coach to the Backstreet Boys, Olivia Newton-John, Stevie Nicks, Chloe Lattanzi and so many other amazing and I mean AMAZING artists! It was real inspiring and motivating to work with him and to have him take the time to shape and direct the voice I hope to someday broadcast to the world. I think I’m going to grow so much as a singer as long as I stick to it with Steve.

“Insider” 1985: The Live Recording I Can’t Do Without
Growing up, I think I had a negative view of duets. Not that I gave them much thought, but something about them harkened visions of Sonny and Cher, Donny and Marie, the Carpenters, or other saccharine-sweet musical duos. Duets were something that variety show acts did, maybe country singers (Kenny and Dolly), but not rock and rollers. Then I heard the live recording of “Insider” from Tom Petty’s Pack Up the Plantation album, featuring Stevie Nicks; it not only changed my view of how two voices can come together and compliment one another so perfectly, it became one of my all-time favorite live recordings.
Stevie has often said in interviews that one of her great joys in making music is singing with other people and trying to replicate Everly Brothers-type harmonies. Outside of her work with Fleetwood Mac, she has collaborated with many artists in duets or singing background harmonies. Have you ever heard John Stewart’s “Gold” or Walter Egan’s “Magnet and Steel”? Both have awesome Stevie background vocals. Tom Petty does not share the microphone as often, but he also is capable of singing a tight harmony vocal. Among the superpowers that made up the Traveling Wilburys, his voice is often most prominent in many of the choruses of Wilburys song. Of all the people Tom Petty and Stevie Nicks have sung with separately, they most frequently have collaborated with one another. It is interesting that two unusual, unconventional voices can come together so beautifully.
I have listened to this live recording of “Insider” hundreds of times over the years. The opening notes of the song evoke the same involuntary reaction in me every time – my eyes close and I inhale deeply - as if I am preparing myself for the flood of emotion the song will bring. Then come the goosebumps when, several seconds into the song, you can hear a surge of applause from the audience as Stevie joins Tom on stage.
Tom originally wrote “Insider” for Stevie to record for a solo album, but then decided he did not want to give it up to her. It is the most beautifully bitter song he’s written; it’s about heartache, about being left behind by someone because you didn’t measure up. The kind of insecurity and inadequacy one feels from being on the losing end of a breakup is so evident in Tom and Stevie’s voices here. Stevie’s vocal is especially heartbreaking. This live version reaches a level of emotion that was not captured in the studio recording of the song. What I would give to have video of this performance . . . but for now, I just have the audio.

I hate to bother you again, Stevie Nicks...
It's about Landslide. I know everybody loves this song--especially the ladies--and I don't mean to be petty, it's just... I've spent a fair amount of time in the mountains. I've looked at a lot of snow, but I have yet to see my reflection. Shadow? Certainly. Reflection? No. I read that you wrote this song in Aspen, but I've looked at Aspen snow too. Nothing. Tell me, Stevie Nicks, where does one find reflective snow?
Also, minor point and I hate to quibble, but you say you saw your reflection "in the snow covered hills till a landslide brought it down". If the hills are snow covered, wouldn't it be an avalanche rather than a landslide that brought it (your reflection) down?
Also, still waiting on that Edge of Seventeen answer. Thanks, Stevie. Look forward to hearing from you soon!

my own personal style varies. i am rather influenced by current trends, as far as what the big designers are doing. but my basic sense is very nostalgic. i spend a lot of time in thrift stores. i am always drawn to interesting, unique pieces that use a lot of fabric, creatively. draping is an art, as far as i'm concerned. fabric and texture is equally as important as cut and color to me. i'm obsessed with flowing, ballerina like rayon and silk in bold, solid colors, layered at different lengths. this year i spent some time in new mexico and realized how deeply ingrained stevie nicks is in my psyche. as a little girl i would sit and stare at my mother's copy of "bella donna" for hours. i thought she was the most beautiful woman i had ever seen. i wanted to BE her.
everywhere i went in new mexico i saw stevie nicks. gypsy hemed, big skirt with delicate top numbers, and shawls. i have never been able to pass those up, and in new mexico it was like i'd landed in stevie nicks fashion heaven. my collection grew, beyond my means, but as ever, i couldn't resist. i am endlessly buying suede, pirate cuffed boots in various heights and heels and colors. this fall while in new mexico i found myself buying everything i could find in bright, orangey red shades. tops and dresses and shoes, that i would pair with white ponchos and sweaters. i recently turned on vh1 classic to see a video of a live performance by fleetwood mac of the song "sara" from 1980. stevie nicks was completely draped in a long, flowing, silky rayon shawl that same shade of bright, orangey red. under the shawl was a white, gypsy hemmed dress with white suede boots.

The life of comedian Kathleen Madigan is bizarre enough to be turned into an HBO comedy co-starring her friends Lewis Black, Carrot Top, Ron White, Dr. Phil and Larry the Cable Guy.
So HBO, consider the following story lines from my interview with her.
Madigan, 44, and her successful comedian friends commiserate about their low self-esteem after performing secretive, private gigs for "craploads of money."
"This weekend," Madigan tells me, "I had a great corporate gig in Hawaii. I had three days off and then I did a show for Mercedes, and they were lovely, and the whole thing was first class."
But in two weeks, she'll be getting paid to tell jokes at a rich woman's birthday party, because Madigan is the woman's favorite comedian.
"Just when you think you're cool and, 'Hey, I sold out this theater of 2,000 people ...' the next thing you know I'm in somebody's backyard in Phoenix with kids jumping on a trampoline behind me, and I'm some lady's birthday present.
"You're no better than the court jester," she jokes.
She's grateful for the fans and gigs. Backyard parties are just a little challenging:
"You still have the possibility of eating it" onstage. "It's enough to keep you grounded and normal."
She talks about that weirdness with her good friend and ex-lover, comedian Lewis Black, who experiences the same thing.
"Lew said yes to some guy's 80th birthday party in Florida somewhere, and it's 40 80- to 100-year-olds in a giant ballroom. And Lew's this guy's birthday present."
Even though Madigan knows how surreal it is to play fans' birthday parties, she would hire Stevie Nicks to sing at her own birthday.
"I really like Stevie Nicks," she says. "I'd say, 'Look, I know this probably really feels like it's gonna suck, and it will for you, but it's my birthday, and here's 150 grand, please sing "Landslide" twice.' "

A native Kansan, Sarah Buxton moved to Nashville after high school. "I grew up just enjoying music. I didn't grow up thinking I was going to do this with my life," she says, citing Stevie Nicks and Patty Loveless among her influences.
It was Nicks' music that inspired Buxton to write songs. "I remember listening to her album and realizing, 'She's writing letters about her life and putting melodies behind it. I can do that.'" Now Buxton calls songwriting "an obsession. The more I write, the more I want to write," she says. "When I started, I wrote maybe 10 songs a year; now I write hundreds."

No.9 - Stevie Nicks
Due to the sexual awakening of the late ’60s, Stevie Nicks appeared naked on her first album cover, Buckingham Nicks. While the album wasn’t a commercial success, it made her a new sex symbol. In 1974, she joined Fleetwood Mac and immediately wrote two of their most popular songs, “Rhiannon” and “Landslide.” Her hauntingly beautiful singing voice and velvet platform shoes made even macho guys like the “sissy band.”

When you were young the answers came easy, didn’t they? If asked the rote question by some well-meaning, shiny new-coin dandling relative —O boy! Did you have some answers! You were going to be drawing comics, or have a bunch of babies, or race Hot Wheels, or be Stevie Nicks and eat tempeh, or go live in the woods with the grizzlies —and besides, you’d also be a millionaire, so, like, duh…
It was once so simple to say what it was you saw for yourself. But, in retrospect, from your first W-2, to your current 401k, did you ever find yourself alone in the company lunchroom sniffing your new business card? Or filing away expense receipts with a secret smile, musing: This is My Brilliant Career!
But why not? Wasn’t that part of the whole plan? Is everyone confused, or is it just you? Ultimately, like a Sartre character who can’t NOT tell his story, because to tell is to live: we all have to sum it up. The good and the bad. The memorable and the insufferable. The supposed avocations and the unemployed vacations.

July 19, 1969 Gym, Monterey Peninsula College, Monterey Santana/Sanpaku/Fritz
Once again, San Paku opened for a Millard client. I'm not certain if the opening act was the Menlo Park band called Fritz, featuring bassist Lindsay Buckingham and singer Stephanie (Stevie) Nicks.
The Monterey Peninsula College gym was a modest sized venue, which probably held about 2000 in a festival seating type arrangement.

MIDDLE-AGED BUT MESMERISING: NICK CAVE AT FESTIVAL HALL
‘Middle-aged but mesmerising’ read the title of the review in the local paper of Nick Cave’s show in Adelaide. Grimshaw was fascinated. He and Sally had bought tickets to the Festival Hall show.
As the venue filled up Grimshaw’s found himself, to his amazement, sat next to two women with their teenage daughters. One was reminiscing about how stoned Stevie Nicks had been when they saw her show years ago.
When the Bad Seeds finally came onto the stage the two women sat next to Grimshaw proceeded to sing along. At the end of the first song, some twenty-somethings sitting in the row in front turned around and said “At least you could sing in tune.” The show lurched along, stopping and starting until Cave finally said to the audience, “I find playing in Melbourne very hard to do.”

From a Pop Matters interview with Dry Spells on their album Too Soon For Flowers
http://www.popmatters.com/pm/post/119609-medievalmodern-an-interview-with-the-dry-spells/
The album ends with a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Rhiannon”. Why did you decide to end with a cover, and why that song?
Ezra from Citay, who drummed for us for awhile, was very influential in the way we arranged and recorded that song. We ended with “Rhiannon” thinking of it as more of a bonus track rather than part of the album. While there is no particular personal meaning associated with the song, we all love Fleetwood Mac and Tahlia and April in particular do try to channel the spirit of Stevie Nicks through their singing.

Fashion Meets Music: Stevie Nicks
Posted on 25 January 2010
Stevie Nicks, the fairy godmother of the gypsy romantic look, has inspired two generations of fashionistas to drape themselves in chiffon and velvet, rock platform boots, and add feathers to their accessory kit. She entices her audience with lyrics encouraging them to evoke their uncaged spirit. Layers of fabric add to the mood as she “floats” across the stage. I’m sure many of us have our own version of Stevie or some aspect of her style integrated in our closets.
I’ve gathered some of my favorite images of and a two interpretations of her influence in fashion and music.
The “bohemian traveler” from Vogue Nippon’s Jan 2010 issue editorial is eclectic and offers a modern approach to creating a nostalgic look. The image of Dree with the black jacket on reminds me of Stevie’s use of capes, hats, and accessories. The layering is more colorful than I see Stevie, however they still have a gypsy sensibility. I’m day dreaming as we speak that these items will be in my closet when I wake tomorrow.
Dree Hemingway as a bohemian traveler in Vogue Nippon's January 2010 issue
Ruth La Ferla has a great write up in the NY Times in which Stevie noted:
“I needed a uniform,” she recalled, one that would counteract the stage fright she encountered in the mid-’70s, when she first began touring with Fleetwood Mac. At the time, her brief to Margi Kent, who still designs much of her wardrobe, was to create “something urchinlike out of ‘Great Expectations’ or ‘A Tale of Two Cities,’ ” a chiffonlike, raggedy skirt that would still look beautiful with black velvet platform boots.
Fringe Benefits
This woman has been a relevant figure in my musical upbringing as far back as memory can take me. My mother was planning on naming me Rhiannon until she came across the name Jenessa in a book she was reading during her young pregnancy. A few years ago, we saw Fleetwood Mac perform for our Mother’s Day celebration. Together we sat on the damp grass in a massive field, inhaled the summer’s night sky, and listened to Stevie’s divine voice bless us with some of the best rock songs ever crafted.

Cloud Formation
Listening to: Crystal Visions - The very best of Stevie Nicks. I picked this up today after realising it met my 'must like at least three or four songs on the album' criteria for buying CD's. Probably should have got a compilation years ago. It has a couple of nice live versions that are about the same as what I heard at the Fleetwood Mac concert last month, and I never realised until now that 'Stand Back' and 'Little Red Corvette' not coincidentally share the same melody (much like Bachman Turner Overdrive's 'You aint seen nothing yet' and The Who's 'Baba O'Reilly, but that is another story.)

WE STILL LOVE YOU STEVIE
Stevie Nicks has been called the Queen of Rock and Roll. Back in the 70’s & 80’s I followed Stevie and her band Fleetwood Mac. My friends and I went to every concert they had within a fifty mile radius of my teenage bedroom. Stevie was the ultimate songbird. She was (and probably still is) a fantastic performer who possessed a unique and sultry voice. I appreciated her style, her image, and her mystique, as much as her singing. And I wasn’t alone. She had legions of followers…. We loved, and many still do, Love Stevie Nicks! I admired her even more when I learned that she would not give up believing in her talent, and refused to get a real job, even when her family put pressure on her to do so.
During Stevie’s solo reign my boyfriend’s brother treated me better than my boyfriend did. It was his brother who jumped up on stage when I won a local beauty pageant, and his brother who bought a hundred copies of the newspaper when I was a featured model. But I never thought it would be his brother who would bring me a signed picture from Miss Stevie Nicks herself just because I asked.
One day, after still gushing over a recent Stevie performance, I took all my mother’s exotic scarf’s and her tambourine (yes my mother was quite unique herself) and I danced in my room, carrying on as if I were Stevie Nicks. When the doorbell rang I stepped outside still dressed like Stevie and hung out with my boyfriend, and yes, his bro. My boyfriend’s brother, who was also into Stevie, told me he was going to meet our idol. I asked him to be sure and get me an autographed picture when he did. I believed he would. Here it is! I never got the full story, but I believe it has something to do with befriending her while they were both in rehab. What really matters is… I had envisioned an autographed picture of Stevie on my wall. I asked, I believed, and I received……

Excerpt from an article about Sarah Buxton:
http://fredericksburg.com/News/FLS/2010/012010/01282010/523875
Buxton's career has always been a bit unusual. Raised in Lawrence, Kan., she honed her vocal skills in local choirs and school talent shows. Shortly after graduation, she met Stevie Nicks and giddily told the Fleetwood Mac vocalist about her desire to become a songwriter. Nicks encouraged her to make that dream a reality, and an inspired Buxton moved to Nashville several months later to launch her career.

5. What did you dream of being when you were a kid? (How ’d that turn out?)
PETE: I told my mom when I was 5 that I wanted to be a Jet Airplane salesman or I could fall back on being a Rockstar….the air industry doesn’t look so enticing anymore so I’m working on the Rockstar thing.
ANDREA: Well, music and performing is the only thing I have ever done since I could talk. So, I would have to say a musician of some kind. then, when I picked up a guitar in middle school and got introduced to classic rock I wanted to be Stevie Nicks Oh, and I also in the back of my mind wanted to be a vet (like a lot of little kids) I loved animals. So, I actually tried this for a semester in college and after castrating a pig I realized it wasn’t for me. So, back to the stage.

Erica, Ah Ms. Stevie Nicks…..Bella Donna…..I know I’ve mentioned this before, but I was on two occasions within five feet of her….Once in a Sedona bar, and the other time was after a USC – Notre Dame game as we were on line waiting for our car services to pick us up….I looked to my right and there she was….Her eyes pierced right thru me….The Sedonna incident was before a concert she was performing in September 2000….I tried to buy her a drink, but she declined…..She returned the favor and bought me a Gin & Tonic…..

Pat-
That’s an awesome story. I guess after all her rehabbing she doesn’t drink anymore.
Did I tell you I met her last March? She did an album signing in the city and I made up a story at work about “having to leave early for very important personal reasons”. (It was really important and personal!!!!!).
I waited for 4 hours, but I finally got to speak to her and shake her hand. She has remarkably soft hands. I read later on she stayed very late into the night to make sure she met everyone who showed up.

Stevie Nicks
February 1, 2010 by Sam
Stevie Nicks is a famous American vocalist and songster. She was born in May nineteen forty eight. She is very famous for her music with, Fleetwood Mac, and also her solos. Stevie Nicks career along with Fleetwood Mac she gained immense success and their music sold millions of copies. She started her solo career in the nineteen 80s, she got addicted to drugs but she overcame all those problems and still proved to be a successful artist.
Stevie Nicks was born in Arizona and her father was a successful business executive, and her mother was a house wife, her grandfather was a singer, and she started twosomes with her grandfather in her very early age. She than got more interest in music when she had her own guitar and she sang her first song. In her school life she grouped into a musical band. In her later educational career she met her future love Lindsey Buckingham. She joined hands with him and started working with him and other fellows as a music band called as Fritz. This band gathered a lot of success due to their on stage performance’s.
Then their old band was finished and both Stevie and Buckingham started making duets, they could not gather much success from their music, so they started working with Fleetwood Mac, they made a big hit. Later on Stevie could not continue her love life with Buckingham and they broke apart. She continued her successful career working with different companies and she gathered a lot of fame and success. Her latest release Crystal Visions, and at this age she is still working hard on music.

The Assassination of Stevie Nicks
02 February 2010, 06.05 | Posted in Uncategorized |
Last night, by the time I reached my breaking point, GG had already rebuked me several times for ragging on the Grammy Awards telecast. I like and loathe celebrity in equal parts, and nothing makes me happier than heckling Jon Bon Phony while I sit here surfing the net on my new iPad that a designer friend at Apple gave me.
Joking. So anyway, I was busy armchair disrupting the ceremony, when I loudly observed that Ringo Starr’s leather-skinned wife looked like “an ancient burn victim” that had been “discovered in those bogs outside of Pompeii.” With that, GG gave up and wandered off. I have a way of outlasting a person’s expectations of me. You seem surprised.
Many of my opinions of the Grammys come with a grain of salt because I loathe most of today’s popular music. I likewise hate what the music industry has become: a purely numbers-based financial institution bent on stapling fiscal expectations and a timer to musical genius and trying to bind its feet, and force it into narrow little boxes, so the people who are bossing around the people who are stocking it across from boys underpants and Scott’s Turf Builder, don’t have to actually think about who might benefit from more exposure.
If it takes an artist two albums to find his or her voice, they will be cast out, but not before being forced to “pay back” all that stupid money the company spent on the video that went nowhere. And it’s out of that fertile soil that budding gay cricket Justin Bieber has emerged.
I thought that the awards went, more or less, to the right folks, with two glaring exceptions: 1) Diane Birch clearly should’ve been nominated and won the best new artist award; and 2) Lady Gaga deserved a couple of trophies. I mean, come on now.
Two hours in, I assumed that the worst was behind me when I saw Stevie Nicks come trudging onstage in the manner of a person walking to his or her own execution. She was there to duet with Taylor Swift, a really talented young lady whose music nevertheless has the gravitas of Josie & the Pussycats rockin’ at a slumber party in space, with Alexander the cat on the ones and twos.
But Stevie has done about a Taylor-Swift-and-a-half of cocaine in her lifetime. She has undoubtedly punched her share of men and women, been shacked up with a million-or-so ne’er-do-wells and has had more than a few handguns in that purse of hers, I reckon. She’s lived, man, and her songs stick to your ribs. Taylor Swift? Her last two boyfriends—Taylor Lautner and the middle Jonas kid—are prettier than most women I know.
Not to mention, Stevie was part of Fleetwood Mac, and co-wrote some killer, killer songs. The band’s best album, Rumours is on my short list of all-time great releases. At their musical peak, Stevie was right out front, wagging her finger and accusing guitarist/paramour Lindsey Buckingham of douchebaggery in virtually every song, most of which they actually wrote together. Watching a video of old Fleetwood Mac shows is like watching the Salem Witch Trials. With sultry keyboards.
Witnessing a true heavyweight forced to sing backup on a song about short skirts and lip-gloss was something that I will never forget. Why? Because it was so humiliating, it actually rendered me speechless, which could, in some circles, be seen as a good thing.

Today's column made me laugh.
I didn't do more than chuckle as she made her way through the obligatory homage to the generation gap and the differences in the music. But when she held up Stevie Nicks as the example of the older generation's music being "better" I just laughed out loud...
In my view, Stevie Nicks has a vocal range of about a half an octave. Don't get me wrong, though... as an old fart, I've grown to like various Fleetwood Mac tunes more and more. But Stevie Nicks was never anything more than a pretty face...
Way back when, in those salad days of mine, when I first saw a film of Fleetwood Mac, all I saw was a hot looking babe fronting a band... the music was merely the scenery behind this highly desired sex object on the screen. Nothing has changed in the music business, and Taylor Swift now occupies that place where performers like Stevie Nicks once stood.
Pairing those two off at the Grammy Awards was, essentially, spot on.
She also posted some lyrics from The Who, and compared them to some lyrics to a Taylor Swift song... But there it is again. Roger Daltry? Once upon a time, Roger could do a fantastic, ear-piercing scream (as in "Won't Get Fooled Again").
But it wasn't the music that made the girls in the audience go wild.
I mean, even Frank Sinatra was a sex object during his heyday.
Heh... even Rudy Vallee!

Weekly Dose of A&E: Taylor Swift shouldn't share a stage with rock legends
Jessica FowlerIssue date: 2/3/10 Section: Arts & Entertainment
I understand the music industry wanting to bring together artists from different generations together to perform during a show, but the music industry should only do this when the two artists compliment each other. Sunday night I watched the Grammy Awards and could not wait to see Stevie Nicks perform.
I remember when I was really young, my grandma went to a Fleetwood Mac concert (a group Stevie Nicks was in during the late 70's-for those of you who do not know who Fleetwood Mac is) and brought me back a T-shirt. Since then, I have listened to a lot of Stevie Nicks.
Unfortunately, her performance was with Taylor Swift. It was bad enough having to listen to another song about fairy tales, but to hear Taylor Swift attempt to sing Stevie Nicks' song, "Rhiannon," was a disgrace. Taylor Swift's screechy voice completely butchered the song. Her wild hand movements were pretty ridiculous as well. I was so embarrassed for Stevie Nicks.
After the horrible version of "Rhiannon," Stevie Nicks basically humbled herself and sang Taylor Swift's "You Belong with me." At one point, I'm pretty sure I saw Stevie Nicks hit herself in the face with the tambourine she was playing. She looked so unhappy to be singing the juvenile song with Taylor. She pretty much looked like she was babysitting and singing the song just to keep the children happy.
I was ready for Stevie Nicks to perform by herself. Taylor Swift got way too much of the attention with that performance. I mean, I will admit, when Taylor Swift first came out, I was totally a fan because she was new to the industry. But now, I'm pretty sure she's super annoying. If she is going to continue her singing career, she should sing about something other than fairy tales and prince charming. Let's move on to something else, Taylor. Another tip would be getting better singing lessons. Even when I was a fan, I thought she had an awful voice.
She definitely does not have a voice that complements Stevie Nicks. The performance was very degrading to Stevie Nicks and should have never happened.

The Wrath of the Stevie Nicks Fans
Today I quit Twitter for good. I thought about quitting the blog and Facebook too. Well, not Facebook. All my friends are there, and we have friendly and fun conversations just about all of the time. And that's wonderful, because right now, I just seem to need a lot of support. Lots of laughter. Lots of conversation about pop culture, music, daily life, whatever. Human contact is good. My life has been so unpredictable and different than ever before. Sometimes I hardly see or speak to anyone for days.
So, I think it's because of my life changes and upheaval that I have been a lot more sensitive than usual. I know that my Miley-Cyrus-esque Twit-Quit was dramatic; I also know that the "old" me, the "real" me, whichever I might call her ... would not have done it that way. At least, I don't think she would have. I think she would have fought back and laughed it off and just not even worried about it. But I did worry about it... well, I got all sensitive about it and allowed it to make me feel even worse about myself, which I did not believe was very much of a possibility at this point.
ALL THAT I FREAKING SAID on my stupid Twitter account was that I didn't think Stevie Nicks did a good performance on Sunday night's Grammy Awards show. I didn't think it was fair that Taylor Swift was being ripped all over (in another attempt which I believe is all-too-common these days, wherein we as a culture, looove to build these young kids up and up into mega-celebrities and then just rip them to shreds for any mis-step) by critics and bloggers for a performance of a song that wasn't even hers. The performance of "Rhiannon" sounded ... not bad exactly. But it wasn't a wonderful vocal achievement. But I heard a solid - if not extraordinary - voice out of Taylor, while Ms. Nicks was singing in the same voice I used to wake up with after smoking and drinking at the bars in those good old days. I'm just saying. No one has to agree with me, I couldn't care less one way or another. Just wanted to put my two cents in, because, well, that's what you do on Twitter. You talk about shit. Stuff that's on your mind. Your opinion.
That was days ago. Tonight I logged on briefly, mainly to see what my new headache doctor had posted recently (he had a strange flurry of strange Tweets recently, but I suppose that's a whole other post). Well, @doclarry (not his exact real name) hadn't posted anything, but I noticed that I had been written to by strangers. That really NEVER happens to me on Twitter. It's very rare and usually only if I have asked one of them a direct question. I have found that the Twitter-verse is more for hipsters and Hollywood people. No one else really matters or makes waves I guess. But my humble little opinion about Stevie Nicks voice made waves. They told me that I was a "cunt," a "jealous bitch who looks like a half-dead Liza Minelli" in my Twitter profile picture, and also that I was just envious of Ms. Nicks' stellar career.
Um... I am not jealous of Stevie Nicks. I can already sing like that if I smoke a couple packs a day. I'm not jealous of either of those singers, and in fact, I admire both of them and both of their careers. That's all I'm even going to say about that. Sheesh. I still stand by my opinion of the performance. Even the best of the best can EFF up sometimes. Not sure how that makes ME a c-word.
**On a completely un-related but BRIGHT note, I am already learning all the notes and music for my brand new guitar (I've never played before, but always wanted to!), and my fingers are getting sore and beginning to callous beautifully, he he! I'm a happy rocker!

PENSACOLA, Florida
Saturday, 6 February 2010
After the press conference the 19-year-old country singer was interviewed by a member of the country music magazine, Hey Y'all Ain't Gonna Believe This. She was asked about the fact that during her Grammy Show duet with Stevie Nicks she had managed to hit 34 bad notes.
Taylor turned three shades of pink. She looked down at the floor and her eyes got a little misty. She pounded on the table angrily and remarked that she had not realized that she had hit so many bad notes.
She said that she personally felt that the number was closer to 23, but when she was told that Stevie Nicks had actually counted them, then she knew that the 34 number was correct because although Nicks may be fat she still has a good memory.
Swift said that she has already apologized for the 34 bad notes about 17 or 19 times. She then pointed out that it was funny that no one said a word about the 349 good notes that she hit on that particular song.
She asked why no one is saying a word about that. She got very serious and then asked, "So can anyone tell me why everyone is talking about my 34 bad notes, but no one, not one son-of-a-bitch, or bitch has said one falootin' word about the 349 good notes that I falootin' did hit.
Taylor said that the very next day she received 79 phone calls. She said that 76 asked her what had happened. Taylor said that only three told her not to worry about it because everyone, even Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, and Lady Gaga all have a bad day and hit a bad note once in a while.
[EDITOR'S NOTE: Yes Miss Swift, one note, but not 34 freakin notes! Not even American Idol initial auditioners hit that many bad notes.]
She was asked who the three positive phone calls were from. She answered that the third one was from her BFF Kellie Pickler, the second one was from Kelly Clarkson, and the first one was from her dreamboat Taylor Lautner.
Taylor then said that the way she feels right now she would just like to run off to the Mediterranean Isle of Majorca with Lauty (Lautner) and spend all of their time having him (blanking) her till her little bitty eyes literally pop out.

LOUDMOUTH rocker Courtney Love is airing her views once more, and this time Lady Gaga is on the receiving end. "I don't think her music is compelling," Love told StyleList magazine. The singer, who is not known for holding back, then justified herstatement by saying: "It's because I listen to rock music. "I'm an old hippie. You know who I listened to last night? Stevie Nicks."

Don't let Naomi Judd catch you saying anything bad about Taylor Swift. The veteran country singer has jumped to Swift's defense after she was heavily criticized for her performance at the Grammy Awards last month.
In a letter to the editor of The Tennessean, Judd, calls Swift a "dazzling performer" and lauds her for single-handedly introducing "country music to a much-welcomed younger demographic."
She attributes Swift's less-than-perfect Grammy duet with Stevie Nicks to having an off night. "Having sung many times at the Grammys, I can tell you that the stress and anxiety of performing in front of the world's top artists in every genre of music is tortuous for even the most seasoned singer," Judd writes.
The backlash against Swift began immediately after her Grammy night performance, which the New York Times called "painfully out of tune."
Swift's label head, Scott Borchetta, rushed to her defense last week, calling her "the voice of a generation" and blaming a technical problem as the culprit behind the pitchy performance.
Judd also praises Swift's "smarts, manners and class" as qualities young people should admire and emulate.
"If there's an award for being the best role model for her generation," she writes, "I'd like to be the one to give it to Taylor Swift."

Sahirah is theatrical. When not dancing, she plays World of Warcraft, dresses up as Narcissa Malfoy at Harry Potter conventions, attends Medieval events in full garb and enjoys hard-edged alternative Goth music. In addition, her uncanny resemblance to the famous Fleetwood Mac singer, get her mobbed at Stevie Nicks’ concerts. She currently studies with classical Egyptian dancer, Soraya, and attends as many workshops as she can.

fleetwood mac and zombies.

Today's Tune: Landslide
I'm thinking I may make these "describe Steph's beyond-bizarre unconscious visions" posts a regular thing, because MAN do I have some doozies. I need to come up with a better name, though. How about Extreme Night Visions? No? I'll figure something out.
Here's last night's insanity:
I am with a large group of people from The Office (the television show), and we're trying to get to some sort of important convention somewhere. But! ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE.
We hole ourselves up in a building (a Costco or Sam's Club, maybe), and find that there are a few people already hiding out. One of said people is Stevie Nicks, frontwoman of Fleetwood Mac.
Stevie and I get to know one another, and before I know it, she's crying her eyes out and telling me how upset she is about all the drama that happened in the band, and it's SO HARD, etc. I'm patting her on the back and going, "IT'LL BE ALL RIGHT, STEVIE NICKS. DON'T WORRY."
But tragedy strikes! Stevie is bitten by a zombie. We fight them off (me and the cast of The Office, that is), and we're sure Ms. Nicks has gone to the big concert in the sky. But no! SHE'S WAKING UP. OH GOD, SHE'S ZOMBIE STEVIE NICKS AND SHE WANTS OUR BRAINS.
And then I woke up.
No, I seriously do not make these up. Well, I do, they come from my brain, but I mean I don't make them up after the fact.

“Sorcerer” by Stevie Nicks
Nicks, of the late, great Fleetwood Mac, focuses on the sexy aspect of spellbinding society. “Sorcerer, show me the high life/ Come over, let me put you on ice,” only makes sense with Nicks’s signature vocal warble and absurd amounts of tambourines. Plus the woman writes all her stuff in her very own tower attached to her house. Jealous? Join the club.

- By the way, I take back my comment about Taylor Swift... I finally figured it out -- she's not flat... it's the band... they're really making her look bad. And Stevie Nicks... hmph... you'd think a professional singer with that many years under her belt would be more professional... how they have hidden her lack of talent for so long I'll never know...

New York
Ralph Lauren's runway is never about wild, needle-moving fashion. And his Fall 2010 collection of floor-sweeping velvet gowns, black beaded cocktail frocks and buttery shearling vests hewed to his familiar stance of merging trend with timelessness.
Backstage after the show, Mr. Lauren, clad in all black, said he had been thinking about balance. "This is about clothes that can go on forever—showing that versatility of being able to hit the young sexy downtown girls and uptown girls at the same time," he said. The collection, which was shown to the music of Stevie Nicks, he said, "had a little bit of hippie-ness and romance…and I think a youngness and a contemporary-ness," he added. The show's tone is a departure from last season, when Mr. Lauren showed heavily distressed overalls, floral cotton shift dresses and pinstriped suits that appeared to draw inspiration from the Depression-era tale "The Grapes of Wrath."

Who Is Janell Wheeler?
Published : Tuesday, 23 Feb 2010, 3:17 PM EST
(MYFOX NATIONAL) - Janell Wheeler calls herself a "Sunshine Cowgirl."
The Tampa, Fla., native auditioned in Orlando with the song "House of the Rising Sun," which earned her a golden ticket to Hollywood as one of the Top 24 finalists for American Idol's season nine.
On her fan Web site JanellWheeler.net she described herself as a singer and writer who also acts and dances. "Music has been my passion since the moment I could wriggle to dance and hum to sing," she wrote.
Wheeler, 24, claims to have an "original, refreshing take on country music" with influences from her classical music training, her love with the guitar, musical theater and experience with hip hop and progressive music.
Celebrity Web site The Hollywood Gossip reported that she refers to her music as "country, pop, soul, glam, fun." She won Orlando's Got Talent and names Journey and Fleetwood Mac as her favorite bands.
The Los Angeles Times reported that Wheeler's "on-again, off-again boyfriend" is 2007 Heisman Trophy winner and former Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow.
She also sang the National Anthem at a Tampa Bay Buccaneers football game earlier this season, according to Web site BumpShack.com .
In her Golden Ticket interview she said that she can breakdance and dance hip hop but called bargain shopping her special talent, according to American Idol's Web site .
She said she had no formal singing training but had sung with the chorus and choir in elementary and high school. She started singing in second grade in church when she wrote three songs and performed them at St. Mary Magdalen in Orlando. Her Idol profile names Stevie Nicks as her favorite female artist and Journey's former frontman Steve Perry as her favorite male singer.
Wheeler sang Neyo's "Closer" with Casey James and Jermaine Purifory during Hollywood Week.

Did "Bootylicious" come together in a similar fashion?
I came up with the idea to build a track using the guitar riff from Stevie Nicks' "Edge of Seventeen." I really wanted to play the riff from "Eye of the Tiger," but I was flipping through my CDs in the studio and I couldn't find it. But I saw the Stevie Nicks CD and I remembered that the riff was similar.
I figured I'd put the guitar loop on there temporarily, and later go into the studio with a guitar and replay it, because I'd learned, after sampling Stevie Wonder's "I Wish" for Will Smith's "Wild Wild West," that I didn't want to lose 50% of the publishing. I vividly remember telling Mathew Knowles, "Mathew, you got to book me into your studio and let me replay that riff." It was Guitar 101! One note!
But Mathew didn't want to do it?
He didn't want to do it. So 50% got cut for one note. That whole experience was bittersweet for me.
I remember watching Barbara Walters interview Beyoncé about "Bootylicious," and she told Barbara about how she came up with the idea for the track. And I was just like, "What?" I called Mathew-which was a big mistake; I got emotional, and I apologized after-but I called Mathew and said, "Mathew, like, why?"
And he explained to me, in a nice way, he said, "People don't want to hear about Rob Fusari, producer from Livingston, N.J. No offense, but that's not what sells records. What sells records is people believing that the artist is everything." And I'm like, "Yeah, I know, Mathew. I understand the game. But come on, I'm trying too. I'm a squirrel trying to get a nut, too."

These men are disgusting and mentally ill. Do not continue to support these bad people. “End of the Innocence” is a song about Don Henley as an old man, taking sexual advantage of a young girl, in a very bad intention. They write bad things in most of their songs, intending to harm people and present themselves as “clean.” Don Henley wrote Witchy Woman to clean the physical ugliness from Stevie Nicks, intending to dump her personal appearance problems with Don on the public in general. They are trying to make her a blonde so that they match very well as a couple.

Truthfully, there's not many people who would think of Bret Michaels and Miley Cyrus singing a song together.
Very few people would think of the two of us being together singing a song, and the fact that it came together so naturally was what made it great. There were no big management meetings, no big process. She was literally in the studio, we were working on Every Rose when she laid down the harmonies for the song. Here's one of the funny things, one of her favorite vocalists is Stevie Nicks. How ironic is that, because I had written and produced songs for Stevie Nicks before, and I said, "you know what's great about Stevie, is that we'd go into the studio, she got on the piano. I got on the guitar, we started playing the song, having fun," and that's the thing about Miley. The reason I believe she will truly be around for a long time and out-do a lot of her peers is because the girl grew up around music. She can play the guitar, she can sit down at the piano and play, and she writes a lot of beautiful stuff. She's very independent, and I love that. This song sounds great to me, and we ended up using almost all the stuff she cut. She really is a good singer, and she really nailed it.

I stopped listening to the Kingston Trio when John Stewart came on board. I couldn't bear to listen to his billy-goat vibrato. He seemed to be a good enough instrumentalist and songwriter; but I just couldn't take his voice. Some folks may recall his almost-a-hit, a song about a woman named Miranda or Melinda or something like that. I thought it was only in keeping with his irritating vocal style that someone who sounded a lot like Stevie Nicks, who also has that billy-goat vibrato, backed him up on it.

Grayson Scott, founder and owner of Farm Box Music
Farm Box Music grew out of Scott's love of rock music. Formed just a year ago, they promote and produce shows in the Gettysburg, Hanover, and York area. Influenced by classic rock, Scott thought it was time to bring a different culture to these areas, allowing fans of rock to see shows without having to drive to Baltimore or Philadelphia.
Scott's passion for music took him to this year's Grammy Awards where he got backstage and met some of his music icons, such as Mick Fleetwood and Stevie Nicks.

Survivor: Celebrity Edition 2 (Episode 7)?
This is where the Yahoo Community gets to decide who will win. This is fiction. Last time on Survivor: The fallout from episode 5 continued and Tina Fey was voted off.
After Tina Fey was voted off Jeff told the survivors that if there were anymore fights that they would be automatically eliminated. At camp everyone was still tense. At the other camp everyone was happy and had no idea the other tribe was fighting.
Jeff brought the tribes together for the reward challenge. Jilipi won the challenge. Michael Jackson was sent to exile. At Exile Michael just rolled around singing to himself.
At Jilipi (Miley’s tribe) they found a chicken running around and they ate it.
At the immunity challenge Jilipi won.
At Tikimo Robert Pattinson, Brian Kendrick, David cook, Megan Fox, and Frenchy all were in an alliance. Johnny Depp, Michael Jackson and Stevie Nicks were the outsiders. Megan wanted to vote off Stevie because she betrayed her on the old tribe. The guys wanted JAckson gone because he was creepy. Depp was not liked by anyone because he didn’t do anyting around the camp.
So who should be voted off?
(Stevie Nicks, Megan Fox, Frenchy, Michael JAckson, Rob Pattinson, Brian Kendrick, David Cook, Johnny Depp)
Wow this episode sucked. This will be the last episode that I’m writing for Celebrity Edition 2.
2 seasons is way too confusing and I think it’s hurt both seasons. Costa Rica will still happen.
If anyone wants to takeover this season go ahead just tell me in your answer.
Costa Rica will be back on Tuesday night. Also that season should get better since I won’t have to think of ideas for both seasons.

Susan Lucci, Stevie Nicks, And The Sum Total of My Wisdom On Growing Up
2010 March 9
A few months ago, a younger friend asked me what growing up was like, what it felt like to be an adult. I can’t remember exactly what I said, but no doubt it was something facetious and possibly flippant (and most likely I was hanging out in my pajamas when I read her email – that seems like a safe bet). I had actually forgotten about this conversation until I was out for a walk last night and Landslide came on my mp3 player. Whenever I hear it, I always think about the fact that Stevie Nicks was a mere 26 when she wrote it and the precociousness of singing about handling the seasons of your life and children getting older, etc. at that age. But man, she really nailed it, didn’t she? The song has aged beautifully (notwithstanding the fact that it’s butchered at least twice a season by blankly smiling 18 year-old American Idol contestants) and to hear current-day Stevie Nicks sing it in her worn-through voice just drives that poignant point home.
All of this being a long way of justifying the fact that I’m going to be equally precocious and finally get around to answering the aforementioned question, potential eye-rolling from my future fifty-year old self be damned. Couldn’t be any more cringe-worthy than having sung back up for Taylor Swift at the Grammys (Sorry, Stevie, but that was beneath you).
My mother has been a fan of All My Children since before I was born and I grew up with the characters. Now, I only ever see an episode of it when I’m home visiting once or twice a year. I remember remarking to her at Christmas that I couldn’t believe that character A was now in love with character B, his former mother-in-law. But to my mother, who watches the show daily, this didn’t seem like a leap at all.

Rocker who got his start playing at area clubs dies at age 70
BY KIMBER SOLANA • ksolana@thecalifornian.com • March 10, 2010
Before the world knew him as Lolly Vegas of the 1970s band Redbone, Lolly Vasquez, with brother Pat and friend Robert Howard, played the Salinas club circuit in the 1950s.
"They played in those rinky-dink bars," said his sister, Marie Vasquez-Diaz of Salinas. "He knew he was going to be a musician no matter what, and it was just going to be a matter of time."
More than a decade after leaving Salinas, Vasquez and Redbone came out with their biggest hit, "Come and Get Your Love," in 1974.
"Because of that song, he'll always be remembered and he'll be rediscovered for years to come," Vasquez-Diaz said.
Lolly Vegas died Thursday in his Los Angeles home after a long battle with lung cancer. He was 70.
Born in Coalinga and raised in Fresno, the then-17-year-old Vasquez and his family moved to Salinas in 1958. With his brother and Howard, they formed The High Tensions band. Lolly Vasquez played lead guitar while his brother played mostly bass and drums.
After Pat Vasquez graduated from Salinas High School, the brothers pursued their music careers in Los Angeles in the early 1960s. Three years later, Vasquez-Diaz said, they returned to Salinas.
Performing as Pat and Lolly Vegas — Vasquez-Diaz said they chose the name simply because it was close to Vasquez — the brothers also backed up the likes of Bobby Darin, Ike and Tina Turner and other visiting performers. After another three years, the brothers tried again in Los Angeles with their Native American rock music. With their new band name, Redbone, their first big break was their 1970 release of "Maggie." The band's 1972 LP "Witch Queen of New Orleans" sold 3 million copies.
Two years later, Redbone's single "Come and Get Your Love" climbed to No. 5 on the Billboard charts, stayed in the top 40 for 18 weeks, and sold 7 million copies. The song has been used in several commercials and movies, including "The Postman."
"They played that song to me before they even recorded it," Vasquez-Diaz said. "They were like, 'Hey sis, what do you think of this song? Just listen to it.'
"I told them, this is it ... This will take you to the top."
In the next three decades, the band continued to tour and make music. But during a tour stop at Minneapolis 12 years ago, Vasquez-Diaz said, Lolly suffered a stroke. Although he couldn't play the guitar after the stroke, he continued to write songs until his death.
A viewing is planned today in Reseda. A Rosary is set for Thursday, Vasquez-Diaz said, and is expected to draw some of her brother's celebrity friends including Della Reese, Cher and Stevie Nicks.
Vasquez is to be buried March 16 in Fresno, next to his grandparents.
"Most of our family is buried in Fresno, so he wanted to be with them," Vasquez-Diaz said. "But the roots of their music are from Salinas."

“The night we recorded it, she was in the studio with her boyfriend Liam,” he explains. “We were doing ‘Every Rose,’ and I played him the song. I’m a very freestyle singer. I’m one of those people who doesn’t have a strict pop method about how someone has to do something. And one of her idols, Stevie Nicks, who I’ve written and produced before, and she said ‘I love Stevie.’ I said, ‘try some stuff like Stevie does, try some low harmonies.’ The song is about an adult couple who have been hurt while trying to find love. That’s the lesson of the song, and she’s singing harmonies on it.”
He adds, “I was like ‘defend what?’ There’s nothing to defend. It wasn’t like it was a duet and we were singing to each other. It wasn’t like we were staring into each other’s eyes singing.”

ALICE COOPER To Guest On DAMON JOHNSON Album - Mar. 17, 2010
According to a posting on the ALICE COOPER fan site SickThingsUK, guitarist Damon Johnson is in the final stages of recording a new solo acoustic album, tentatively titled "Release". This will be his first solo effort since 2000's "Dust".
"There was a stack of songs sitting around that I felt I'd be proud to have a recorded version of me singing them," Damon says. "For all the different projects I've been involved in, the one thing they all have in common is great songs. It's been amazing to be able to collaborate and learn from all these great musicians and songwriters."
"Release" is being recorded at Kensington Road Studios in Birmingham, Alabama and will showcase a diverse array of material. There are a couple of songs that have been staples of Damon's live acoustic shows in recent years, like "Leave It All Behind" and "Every Day", which Stevie Nicks recorded a version of in 2001. Several songs will feature a full rhythm section accompaniment, and Damon's daughter Sarah duets with him on "Better Days Will Come At Last" and a cover of SHELBY LYNNE's "Where I'm From".
"I've lived in Birmingham since 1987," Damon says. "As I'm getting ready to move my family and start our new life in Nashville, this album is sort of a love letter to Alabama."
The new album will also contain a cover of Damon's favorite ALICE COOPER song, "Generation Landslide", featuring Alice himself on harmonica. "I've wanted Coop to add this song to the live set ever since I joined the band," Damon says. "The original version from 'Billion Dollar Babies' is centered around the acoustic guitar, and we've stayed true to that arrangement. We had a blast recording it."
The album will be mixed by Damon's longtime collaborator Kelly Gray, and should be completed by June 1.

Ron Washington took greenies when he played
Thu Mar 18,2010 5:45 PM ET By Craig Calcaterra
Not that it's shocking or anything, but he did say so to ESPN's Pedro Gomez today.
Washington's cocaine use is obviously big news, but mining the man's past like this seems of little utility. As Washington notes, "amphetamines were prevalent throughout baseball" during his tenure. More so than even cocaine. I suppose it's one thing if someone finds out that he used to do lines with Stevie Nicks in the late 70s or something because that would show that he was being less then genuine yesterday, but a ballplayer doing greenies in the 70s and 80s is pretty much dog-bites-man, no?
