View Full Version : The tuskalicious bun

Ha, so I am sitting at my apt all alone on a Friday night....trying to do my best "Tusk" era Stevie bun. Here is what I have come up with. Apparently, permed hair works best, which I do not have. But what the heck, I was bored.
And I would love to see others do the bun. Feel free to post pics, lol.

OH WAIT, oh WAIT...lolol, I am cracking myself up....
Here is my Stevie bun pose WITH my "Stevie biting lip" pose....
I should find a hobby...like knitting...or maybe volunteering somewhere and get the hell off of The Ledge, haha.

Oh honey, you need some more VOLUME! Break that krimper out girl! :p

I KNOW! I even tried teasing the hair underneath and everything...nothing was working. If it wasn't so late, I would def bring out the krimper and do it right, haha.
I seriously need to find something constructive to do.

I've been wanting to try this for sometime now....
I just don't think I have the hair for it.
its curly-ish and has some volume, but its so thin.
I might have to rat it out or something.
thanks for sharing bryson!

Ugh, this is why I should never have cut my hair.
..............it's sad that I'm talking about a thread on the ledge, and I'm completely serious.

I cut my hair in March. It was as long as Stevie's during Tusk. (Half way down my back). My hair is so thin and fine that I can't even keep it up in a clip because it falls down all the time. I had to always pull it back in a pony tail. My boyfriend loves my hair down, but I get really bad hot flashes and I am always hot all the time anyway, and I just have to keep it out of my face. He doesn't get it. I would love to have Stevie's hair, but she has thick hair, mine is too thin to have the bun look. It looks better on her anyway. I have a round face, she has a long face and that's perfect for her for that kind of hair style. It's all about the face when it comes to doing hair.

I have thick, curly hair. I might try it cause my hair's also the same colour at the moment as Stevie's during "Tusk".
How do you do it? I've always had the impression you tip your head forwards and plait upwards, then twist it onto the top of your head. Is this right or wrong?

Okay, considering everyone has always made fun of the Victorian topknot I'll wear, here's a few (rare) photos of the infamous "bun". At least people here will understand.

Oh, this idea is brill! :DDD Bryson (from what I've gathered, I'm hoping that's your name! If not, correct me please! :p) do you happen to have any tips as to how to approach this? I don't even know where to start! (I'm not too great with buns. :/) LOL, you should make a Youtube video or something explaining!

Rhiya,
Yes, Bryson is my name. I don't really know the real way to make this bun, but from what I've seen Stevie do in a video, is that she just leans forward and then pulls all the hair up and the makea little twisty bun. Then lift it up and shake it a little so that it feels kind of loose, and ta-da! There is a tuskalcious bun!
I might makea youtube video tomorrow though, good idea, lol.
Looking great ladies! Looking good!!
Now it's your turn. :D

Apologies in advance for how shitty I currently look-- ripped shirt, makeup-less face and all. I think the bun worked pretty well for me.... although i think my hair might be too long. I had a ton falling out from the back of the bun when I took this bun picture but before, with all of it actually up, it was just enormous haha.

Ha, why thank you. My hair is kind of a disaster though-- it takes a LOT of work to keep it from being ourtageously curly. My hair has a mind of its own-- I can take the same steps in hopes of reaching a certain outcome but it STILL will do whatever it wants. Today was luckily a good day.

Since I can't do the bun just yet I will show you my favorite bun pic. I love this photo and I think it's really cute. By the way, I was watching an episode of "Saved By The Bell" one morning and Tiffany Amber Thiessen (Kelly) had the bun in her hair. She was lifeguarding on the beach. Work it, Dani. And Bryson, I hear you. I killed my hair for years going blonde, finally got it to a healthy place as a brunette....and then chose to chop it all off. I make great life decisions.

My hair is getting kinda gross now, though, because of how long it is. For me, it doesn't feel long at all considering I cut like, 8 inches off a year ago and it isn't even close to being back to that length. But my head is starting to feel heavy, which is weird...
I kinda want to try going blonde... but at the same time, I don't think I could pull it off. Hmm.

Don't talk shit on your hair. I covet it, and I take offense for it. And if I could pull of blonde, so could you.

BUTTTT yours loooks easy to maintain!
If it was easy to take care of, it would be a different story. It's one thing to put a lot of effort into your hair for a consistent result. It's totally different when you KNOW that it has a mind of its own and nothing can change that :(

I think all the Ledge women (who dare), should bleach their hair blonde.
And post before and after pictures. Heck, even dress like Stevie if you like.
Someone start a new thread with this idea.

Been blonde, and I don't think I will go back to it. I am just brown. Here is one with my hair down, and one of me trying to do "The Bun", but like I said, my hair is so fine and straight that you can't do anything with it. I can crimp it but holding curls...won't do anything, unless it's permed. I thought about it again...but after what happend to me back in 2004, I will never let women like that work on my hair again. They fried it so bad that it turned blonde, it looked liked I stuck my fingers in a light socket and electicuted myself. They left the stuff on my hair in for too long, then they tried to blow dry it after! I said, "What the hell are you doing?" They didn't know what they were doing. I came in with my mom the next day and we begged for our money back, but they never gave it back instead they offered to give me a deep conditioning treatments and that crap. I cried for weeks because of what they did. I thought about shaving my head and getting a wig, but I stuck it through. I should've sued their asses! But with my hair like that it had a big Stevie look. I could've done the bun with that hair deffinatley. Anyway, here are my recent pics that I just took not too long ago.

I've given up and embraced the curly aspect of my hair.
on humid days, people ask me if I have a perm.
I always say "who in the hell would pay money to have this?"
your hair does look good though...really think and shiny.
I wish mine was that thick.

I tried it with my bestie last night, and failed with a bun. I did more of a Rumours twist. Maybe my parents will let me post pics. But it made me realize just how dark my blonde hair gets on the bottom, it's like brunette. D: (My dad's side of the family is known from going from blonde to brown naturally, but I hope this doesn't happen to me because I like being blonde!)
Anyways... I'll describe my hair to you. It's normally brownish-blondish, but it's lighter now as it's been bleached by the sun. It's reallllly thick, wavy, and overall unruly. I soooo would have lived easily in the 70s and 80s... but it's not exactly modern. So I flat iron it almost every day. D: I don't really like my hair!!!

Great minds think alike!
I think it's better to dye dark hair blonde this way. Full head colours can look unnatural and tacky. Highlights tend to get more of a variety of shades of blonde in hair, making it look better.
Anyway, if I was to do the "Tusk" bun now it would be the perfect colour for it!

You have beautiful hair! That looks great. I'm determined to try this at some point, I don't think it's going to be easy since I have pretty thick, hip-length hair. :p
