The UK Daily Mail is reporting that Britain's Got Talent second place finisher Susan Boyle was admitted to London's Priory clinic last night suffering with exhaustion.

Police were summoned to her hotel, reports the Sun, and the singer was assessed under the Mental Health Act after she had an 'emotional breakdown' following her shock defeat in the show's final.

But, despite her distress at missing out to dance troupe Diversity, coming second was the best thing that could have happened to her, judge Piers Morgan has declared. Morgan said a victory would have 'just carried on the mayhem' for the unworldly Scottish spinster.

Yesterday afternoon show reps contacted police to say the 48-year-old was 'acting strangely' at her London hotel. Judge Piers said Susan was 'almost certain' to sign a record contract with Cowell.

According to the newspaper, paramedics were then summoned and helped the 'spaced out' star through the lobby and into an ambulance just after 6pm. A Met Police Inspector and police doctor were called to assist and she was then escorted to the private clinic.

A spokeswoman at the private Priory Clinic in London would not confirm or deny the star was staying at the clinic. Producers of the show said Susan Boyle was 'exhausted and emotionally drained'. The Daily Mail reported on Boyle's can be read by clicking here.

Diversity, a troupe of brothers and friends who brought dynamic dancing to the stage time and time again have won it all on "Britain's Got Talent." Their win proved a shocking upset as Scottish singing sensation was expected to take it all!

Susan Boyle returned to 'Britain's Got Talent' tonight, once again soaring with "I Dreamed a Dream." Boyle earned an emotional standing ovation from the audience and judges as she sang her song before the final results were announced. Respectful in defeat, Boyle praised Diversity, cheering them on by remarking, "The best people won. They're really entertaining and lads, I wish you all the best."

Diversity receives a 100,000 pound ($159,000 US dollars) prize and the chance to perform before Queen Elizabeth II at the Royal Variety Show.

The week leading up to the final proved very stressful for Boyle, it was rumored at one point she was quitting before the final performance.

The Priory? Woah. Poor Boyle. You could see this happening a mile off though. Talk about a fish out of water.

Get well soon is all you can say really...:(

Producers of the show said Susan Boyle was 'exhausted and emotionally drained'. How do producers of a TV show know enough about Susan Boyle's medical state & history to diagnose her?

I feel bad for her. All of this publicity and the paps following her around has got to be overwhelming for her. Hope she will get better and do what she feels is right for herself and not rush into anything like signing recording contracts, etc.

She has a really powerful voice. When she recovers, she'll probably receive a lot of public sympathy. I wonder...was the band that beat her very good? Sometimes these things are rigged to cause more controversy and, as a result, more publicity.

Anyway, hope she gets better in a timely state.

I wonder...was the band that beat her very good?I thought they were dancers ... not a band per se.

Well they're a band in the same way that Boyle is a singer. :sorry:

Here's my thought on it:

If you can't take the heat, then get out of the kitchen.

You want fame if you sign up for shows like this. Once they get it, they go crazy and want their privacy back. Be careful what you wish for.

I totally agree, except I think it's worth noting that SoBo is, well, challenged -- and therefore I do think it raises questions as to the degree to which she was exploited by the show.

Whatevia, I just hope this is the last we hear of/from her.

She has a good voice that, with training, could be great on a sustainable basis - though at her age that is difficult.

As for the mental condition, I believe she was oxygen deprived at birth, which has lessened her mental capability. The word on the street is the press were calling her a fat cow and other horrible things in an effort to get a reaction from her, which she gave them.

If she is to be a cause celeb - they are going to have to shield her. And, put her on a script for the shows.

I do not think she can act or sing eight shows a week -- so Broadway and/or the West End are likely out for her.

In the end, her first performance was stunning. Her second one less so, save for the end. I thought she looked a sounded like she was heavily sedated for the final performace, which was good, but not great.

In show business, you gotta have talent (which she has) and a gimmick - her's is her simple personage. Who knows if it will last.

. . . and therefore I do think it raises questions as to the degree to which she was exploited by the show.

I have to agree. Though she seems to operate in the at least borderline range of intellectual functioning, she clearly is easily influenced, esp. when someone so clearly from humble means is tempted by fame and money. The vision of a child being seduced by a preadtor offering candy comes to mind. But, this is just my impression.

In the end, like so many of the film greats from the 20's until about the 50's - I think the producers jacked her full of whatever drugs it took to get her through it because ad space likely tripled in value.

I tend to find the whole American Idol/Britains Got Talent format distasteful. The likes of Simon C have a significant part to play in the demise of the 'craft' of music making and present the record industry at their worst. The purpose of the shows seems to be to revel in the lack of obvious ability that many acts possess.

What I really disliked about this latest episode was the fact that they took someone who clearly has learning difficulties (well documented in the UK) and doesn't possess the skills to handle the media and subjected her to excessive amounts of stress and criticism. Is such cruelty the backbone of British TV now?
