Absolutely LOVE it - One of the songs that got me into Stevie in the first place.
I wish it had been on an album.

I remember hearing it and liking it when the live concert was in frequent broadcast rotation on HBO. I wasn't that familiar with Stevie at the time, but assumed that the song must be on a FM or solo album.

I sort of forgot about it until the "Enchanted" box was released. It's still surprising that she never brought the studio version to completion, because it was certainly strong enough for inclusion on BD or WH.

It's still a bit of a shock when I see the video clip from the HBO concert...man, she was SKINNY, and for some reason she appears especially thin on this song. That tamborine seems to dwarf her.

its a real anomoly in Stevie's songs. It was never a studio track and yet she played it live on a tour and a half. Blue Lamp, Twisted and others were on soundtracks or b-sides. Then there's the class of cover songs like I Need To Know, btu Gold and Braid is just nothing. A Stevie song that only exists in Stevie's live show. Now its on Enchanted so it's kind of like a studio track done live, mbut from 1981 to 1998, it was just some really good song that Stevie played live in 1981 and early part of 83 and then it was gone, weird.

But how do I like it, I love it.

Funny that you guys should mention this song, as I just recently got into it.

I really like it - it's got a good beat and a very catchy chorus!

She also did it on the Enchanted tour in 98, and then in '99 when she did those end of the year shows. I have a boot from one of them where she says how the song was never recorded. (as in the studio) And how it went out on a million bootleg tapes. "It's ok, I don't care. Atleast somebody heard it" She was surprised so many people knew the song.

I think that is one of the only times Stevie has something positive to say about bootleg tapes. :)

That it didn't get included on her second album (or even her third) is very weird. It was co-written with Tom Moncrieff, & I'm thinking that maybe he might have something to do with the fact it wasn't put on an album. He seems to be unhappy that he wasn't given credit on various Stevie Nicks songs on Fleetwood Mac albums, like "Sara" & "Gypsy."

If they were to release a 30th anniversary remastered version of BELLA DONNA with bonus tracks, I would hope those bonus tracks would consist of "Gold & Braid" and "Julia!":blob2::blob1::blob2:

While the live version on the "Enchanted" box is superior, I think that a perfectly fine studio version could be stitched together from the various outtakes that exist. These outtakes desperately need a proper mix, though. On every boot that I have heard, the vocal is way too low in the mix. Not too surprising, given that these weren't intended for release.

But if they ever did release a studio version as part of a Bella Donna deluxe reissue, some mixing work would be required.
