This past weekend I found a copy of "Reflections from the Other Side of the Mirror," a vinyl album featuring an interview with Stevie where she discusses OSOTM, etc. The album was sent to radio stations to promote OSOTM. A bargin for $10.

Even though I haven't listened to the album, I was inspired to listen to the OSOTM concert below, which I consider the best OSOTM recording. It was taped in Houston on Oct. 8, 1989 and broadcast July 1990 as part of the Superstar Concert Series.

It's a soundboard recording - aided, no doubt, by some post-production sweetening - so the audio is far superior to any of the audience recorded bootlegs. Stevie's vocals are strong and consistent. There are some great ad-libs, reworked lyrics, and a few songs rarely performed (Alice, Whole Lotta Trouble, Two Kinds of Love. No Spoken Word, Rooms on Fire). Beauty & the Beast is fantastic.

Three tracks are listed on the accompanying material as being culled from "BBC Classic Tracks," but I'm not sure what that means. She did perform those three songs on Oct. 8.
Two other songs from Oct. 8 (How Still My Love and Rhiannon) were cut from the radio broadcast.

If you were lucky to catch the early part of this tour, Juliet and Talk to Me were part of the set. She performed them at the Aug. 17 Toronto show and at Great Woods in Mansfield, Massachusetts on Aug. 19 & 20. I was sitting in the 3rd & front row, respectively. Amazing shows. I don't recall if a decent boot of Juliet has circulated or not...

Thanks for sharing this show!

Just wanted to point out that Rhiannon was never done on the OSOTM tour (she just sang a few lines here and there, acapella). Also, Juliet was done through September of 89, I have several Mp3's.

I love Outside the Rain from this show... "Well Im tired of trying!!!"

Thanks for posting this.

I've actually been listening to a few of the tracks from OSOTM lately. It's almost exactly the 20th anniversary of this record. I remember loving it when it came out, but aside from a few tracks (Rooms, Ooh, Juliet, It's Alright, Long Way), it hasn't aged all that well. I do like the vocal production on this record quite a bit, tho. It has a really rich vocal sound and Stevie seems to have pulled herself together vocally. The harmonies and backing vocals sound particularly glossy, deep and lovely as well ("Yes, it was a strain on her...") - I imagine it's sort of the pinnacle of the sound Stevie was after (at least in terms of vocals) in her solo career.

Thanks for sharing. I haven't been so excited about Stevie downloads in a long time. This was my first Stevie concert (the MA one).

Pretty cool concert -- I remember this one. I used to have the Westwood One vinyl of it that the stations used to play it market by market.

I think it's just a standard radio broadcast, not a soundboard. A soundboard is actually a very specific type of recording. They don't generally broadcast soundboards as part of the Westwood One series of live concerts.
