View Full Version : Where you in the audience when Stevie did Red Rocks, etc...

As I know, there's lots of fans here that has been following Stevie and The Mac since the 70's (it's awesome!!!) and I was wondering if anyone of you, here on The Ledge, was in the audience when they recorded Red Rocks, or US Festival, or other old videos or clips that are well known (don't have to be but it's fun if they are)...??????
You'll know that it would be totally awesome if someone out there went to one of those concerts 20 years ago :) Because everytime when I watch like, let's say Red Rocks, I think "Well, all of those people who are in the audience have to be Stevie fans 'cause they went, you know, and why wouldn't they be on The Ledge now if they were fans then??? Some of you were younger then, you know". :blob2: So, that's what I thought about :) Where you there? Are you knowing anyone who was there? Let us know ;)

Have an awesome day everyone!
Love,
/Hanna, Belladonna93 :wavey:

We're a varied & well-traveled group of ledgies here!

You can usually tell which ledgies went to which concerts in the olden days (anything three years ago or longer) even if they don't specifically say so because they state that it was the best this or that Fleetwood Mac ever played, blah blah blah. It's human nature, I guess, & you see it in ledgies all the time: The show you yourself saw was the best ever, blah blah blah. People look back on something they attended with an especially roseate hue. Objectivity or even accuracy isn't the focus -- nostalgia is.

Example: I saw the Rose Bowl Peace Sunday daylong concert in June '82 & I always believed & told everyone that Stevie got the loudest applause. Something must have stuck in my mind that night (she played at night) that she did, but looking back on it now, I have no idea whether she did or not. My nostalgia has quite probably transformed the experience in my memory.

There do seem to be a couple of notable concerts or other events where no ledgie (yet announced publicly) attended. These concerts include:

May 15, 1975 El Paso --- First ostensible concert given by new lineup
Sept. 23, 1975 Wallingford --- Recorded at Trod Nossel Studio for radio
April 25, 1976 Oakland --- Big splashy appearance at Bill Graham's Days On The Green
Feb. 28, 1977 Berkeley --- Kickoff date of the Rumours tour & benefit for Jacques Cousteau Society
May 7, 1977 Oakland --- Headliner for Bill Graham's Day On The Green
June 29, 1977 New York --- Garden concert reviewed by Rolling Stone; Stevie "reeled like a drunken sailor"
March 20, 1980 New Zealand --- Infamous concert & radio broadcast with Lindsey drunken rampage incident
Nov. 28, 1981 Houston --- Opening night of Bella Donna tour (although John Kinney attended the following night in Dallas)
May 27, 1983 Las Vegas --- The unexplained "opening night" of the Wild Heart tour; nobody's even sure it actually took place -- no one who attended has ever stepped forward & said so
June 12, 1987 Los Angeles --- Mick Fleetwood's Zoo with guest Stevie Nicks (why didn't anybody go to this? why didn't I go to this? I don't even remember any announcement)
1988 tour in Europe --- No ledgie has ever said he or she attended any of these concerts in Europe in the spring of 1988

And so on.

Sept. 23, 1975 Wallingford --- Recorded at Trod Nossel Studio for radio.
Noted on the list.At that time I was 13 years old in school. In the same town.now I'm here in the same town and live right down the street from Trod Nossel studios.and its still there.OOH what a pisser I mssed that one.

I was in the audience when Stevie did The Rosie O'Donnell show in 2001. I attended the party Shery Crow had for Stevie at the Shine clube in NYC and a fellow fan told me she would be on Rosie's show the next day. So after standing in many lines and drawing many lucky lotteries, I was the LAST person seated in the studio. The swooping camera was right over me and I was on tv about ten times on that episode. BTW, Stevie was PERFECT as I am sure everyone has seen that performance.

Yeah, From what my uncles told me, he through a guitar at her and it missed her and they just all stopped and went off. lol He said they sounded crap anyway and that in his word "that song Tusk went on forever, they were shit" hahahaha

My neighbor said she thought they were great but im guessing she was as drunk as Lindsey

Im sure its in the old newspapers in the library in town, i checked it out before and got some cool ads before the concert, but i'll have to look for articles about it after the show.

I was at the show Stevie did for the anniversary of Woodstock and you can clearly see me on the (bootleg) dvd banging an imaginary tambo to 'I Need To Know' and also the 'Central Park In Blue' concert Sheryl Crow did where Stevie was a guest ... also can see me in my 'Street Angel' tshirt on that dvd... I wish I could say I wasn't old enough, but I have been to at least one (and usually more) shows for each of Stevie's solo tours* up until the Crystal Visions tour...after that, i have missed a few of these current hits tours...(*except Bella Donna, alas, didn't get to any of those shows) ... oh and there was a clip on youtube from the Nicks/Henley show in Philly and you can see the back of my head as Stevie was grasping (or was it I who was grasping? Now I seem to forget:shrug::rolleyes:;):D) both of my hands....

I don't remember thinking she was a mess at all, actually. I do remember knowing why she was going backstage so often, but I thought she was fabulous. It was my first of so many tours/shows. She gave a very sweet speech at the end that made me and my girlfriends cry- about how much she loved all of us...lol. Good times.

Jones Beach is probably my favorite place to see Stevie...i saw her there a couple of times over the years, although the tours are foggy at this point...I know I was there for Street Angel, and probably Enchanted...maybe RAL? To me, the ambiance there, just fits Stevie's songs to a 'T'....

The first time I saw Stevie in concert was on her Rock A Little tour -- in Boston. Having nothing to compare it to other than the Bella Donna concert video, I was very disappointed in her perfomance. I remember thinking "she's not up to par."

She was very messy. The entire pace of the concert was halting and miss-timed. She missed cues, forgot lyrics and babbled incoherently to the audience, so there was a very uncomfortable disconnect with the audience. And, as evidence from some of the bootlegs from this tour, she didn't so much sing the songs, but rather bleeted and butchered them.

She didn't lose me as a fan, because I knew she was better than that, but I left that show not feeling very good.

But I also heard that she was a mess during the show, appeared completely wasted and even fell either off the stage or on the stage...sounds dramatic I know, but those are the rumours I heard. Can anyone else substantiate that? I always wondered if it were true.

I grew up out in Suffolk County (Holbrook)... one of my earliest memories is of hearing a commercial promoting the show (her name sounded phonetically interesting to me- and my dad was/is a fan), and the other shows on the Jones Beach schedule that summer. I was 4.

For me, I'd have to say the most memorable show was actually 6/25/08 in Toledo. It started POURING nonstop for about 90 minutes at 7:30 and finally they let us in the venue at 9. The Zoo amphitheater in Toledo was uncovered so the rain was going sideways onto the stage and some of the equipment. my friend and I were front row center and I thought for sure they would cancel the show, but Stevie finally came on at around 10:00 PM. After the opening song, some flunky cam out and gave Stevie a huge umbrella which Stevie used during Dreams. She starts twirling the thing about halfway through the song and I swear I thought I was having visions of Gene Kelly in Singin' In The Rain. A very memorable if waterlogged night!

She did fall at least once during the RAL tour. She discusses it in a radio interview from that era, where she claims her heel got caught towards the edge of the stage. Right. She was saying that now "she's a very careful girl". I do think she fell a second time, perhaps in Australia but I"m not sure.

I think I heard it was when she was doing one of her trademark twirls...she was kind of staggering all over the place and nearly fell over...something like that....and I think she said she forgot some lyrics.

Several of us just posted some tracks from the Philly Spectrum show. I think she sounds great. But I like listening to her scream like a jungle cat. God, that was a nightmare. I'm sorry lol. Stevie was great that night and so gracious to us for staying, but I was miserable. I was soaked to the bone and freezing and then had to drive the hour home without a change of clothes. On top of this, HAEWAFY got dropped (which was the one moment I was looking forward to since I've never heard it live- and still have not heard it live-) so that pissed me off too. But having said all that, I have to admit it was pretty incredible to hear her sing Dreams as it was raining like that and see her with the umbrella.
