What are you sayin'?
That the mark of what is good is what the public buys?
I've never subscribed to that. I didn't buy Rumours because millions of others had it.
If everyone else is subject to under-top 40, so be it.

Yes, she's one of my favorite female artists of all time and, imo, one of the most innovative, creative, amazing, beautiful women in rock and roll history. I found her entire life story exhilarating and I have loved her, and the Velvets, for the majority of my life. Now this was a true gypsy.

A few years back, I remember looking at the spins for the top 50 Classic Rock stations in the country over the most recent quarterly period. "Go Your Own Way" outplayed any other FM song on all 50 stations, most of the them by a ratio of about 2 to 1. Second was "Don't Stop" (!), followed by "Rhiannon" and then "Dreams".
Maybe this is just my perception, but I think "Rhiannon" has had more staying power (in terms of its collective popularity at the present) than "Dreams".

Kenn, you know, sometimes people are just kidding. I love Stevie Nicks, hell I even flew to the States from the UK just to see her play live. It doesn't mean that when I talk about her it all has to be rainbows and unicorns and I certainly don't get offended if people don't love every single thing she does. Even Carrie, who you have painted as someone who loathes Stevie, has written more positive things about Stevie over the years than not.
The fact is the thread was posted to be antagonistic and, while it's great that Dreams was the Mac's only US number one, you can't expect to start a thread like this and not get people offering opinions etc. The funny thing is too that there's hardly any anti-Stevie talk in this thread.

Maybe. Maybe not. There are several people who take every chance they can to bash lil' Stevie. Not that she is my shining hour, any longer, but her contribution cannot be denied. Check other threads... You must admit, if it's not the Stevie forum there is something nasty about her.

I looked for psotive headings on threads in this forum specific to nicks and could not find any. Others have them.

Anyway, Dreams was a Fleetwood Mac song so, unless she's had solo #1 singles (I don't know), then she isn't the "only member with a #1 hit single". They were all on Dreams so they've all had a #1 single. :p

Please. Of course you can start a thread that is positive about Stevie without it being antagonistic but the title of this thread is pitting her against the other members as superior in some way. I'm not saying it isn't funny or true or whatever but you post something obviously hoping to stir up some drama, "look Stevie is better than the other members" then act surprised and hurt when people challenge you on it.
And there are plenty of positive posts about Stevie on The Ledge, the majority are positive in fact, you just choose to focus on the few negative ones.
But were they number 1? Nope. Sorry. Define facts for me, as you believe it to be defined.
She's never had a No.1 in Ireland where DigYourGrave is from. I believe that's what she was saying. Christine has come closer to being number one than Stevie there.

They may not have been, but Albatross was. Dreams wasn't. We've been through this. More people over here know Dreams as "Oh, isn't that the thunder song that The Corrs did?"
I love Stevie to death but here in the UK most people don't know who she is. Her biggest solo hit was Rooms On Fire which got to No.16 I think back in 1989. Peter Green is far more famous here and Mick Fleetwood of course, mainly due to his infamous stint as host of the Brit awards

Yeah, loads of people over here know Peter Green. I don't know anyone that's a similar age to me that had heard of Stevie before I mentioned her but plenty knew Peter Green and they all know Fleetwood Mac.
When I was saying "over here" I meant N. Ireland as part of the UK, but if we're taking it as part of Ireland, then FM have never had a #1 single. The best they did was #2 with Everywhere. Albatross got to #5 and according to http://www.fmlegacy.com/charts/IREcharts.html Dreams either wasn't released in Ireland or it didn't chart at all.

Right on, I agree. I was only saying that she is the only credited artist/composer for that track. I think that without Lindsey our Stevie Nicks would be a teacher somewhere doing Karaoke on Tuesday evenings. LOL

Lindsey did polish it up for her. Anyone who has ever heard her demos of all her hits knows that the basic "hook" of the song is created by her.

He lives in the Netherlands, where GYOW and Oh Well both made no. 1. Here in Canada, You Make Lovin' Fun and Dreams made no. 1.
Just for kicks... here are number one hits according to the Fleetwood Mac Legacy:
Trouble - No 1. in the Netherlands, South Africa, Australia
Dreams - No. 1 in the US
Whenever I Call You Friend - No 1. in Canada
Interestingly enough, in the US, Stevie has had two top 10 hits with Fleetwood Mac, whereas Lindsey had four, and Christine had four.

Personally, I love the interaction. I've been exchanging opinions, questions, & quips with the forum here for years, & I'm as easily amused today as I was when I first started. In fact, my love of Ledge conversation has outlasted my love of Fleetwood Mac.

As far as your posts being funny, it raises the argument; is something funny based on the intent of the person writing it, or how it is received?

Pale, I have enjoyment out of my posts. I find them amusing. Regardless of what anyone else thinks, or how they perceive them. My opinion is not popular, I get that, but my opinion gets other people thinking. It makes other people write me AWESOME messages about how right I am. It makes people write how wrong I am. Either way, it's only a message board and if this is all people have, I feel sorry for them. If this band is all people have, I feel even worse for them. This is just a venue for us to express ourselves.
BTW: I get a lot more messages about how people support what I am saying, but don't wanna get, "RIPPED APART" by expressing their feelings. If that's how people feel on this board, then someone needs to stand up and shoot passive-agressive, nasty comments back at these Ledge-Flaming-A*Holes. That is why I refuse to hold myself back because other people think what I think, but are afraid of writing it.

meanwhile, there's an actual conversation going on involving people who normally think her recent output sucks (like sparky) and people who haven't posted in forever (like vanessa). so what gives?

The point of my original post was to suggest that the extreme viewpoint of Kennation's posts support the belief others have that Stevie's fans are obsessed. Your omitting a good portion of my original quote and replacing the pronoun of lower case "her", with Stevie's name makes it seem as if I said that Stevie's fans are obsessed and nuts. That combined with your statement "You said it" made me feel you represented the extreme of those who lump all of her fans into that category.

What song are you talking about? "Dreams" is the only song of Stevie's that has ever hit #1 on Billboard's MAIN chart, and, sorry, she may have written it, but the playing and producing is all about Fleetwood Mac.
So, yes, Stevie may be responsible for WRITING the only #1 song FLEETWOOD MAC has ever had, but she has yet to hit #1 as a solo artist, so this point is sort of moot!

Nation will be back to say that Stevie actually wrote the melody blah blah for Dreams, so she deserves most of the credit.
Nevermind the fact that she plunked it out on her portable keyboard thing and that day played it for FM and Lindsey. I am sure LB had much to do with defining that song. So I totally agree with you, the whole topic is moot.

There's a little snip of Stevie playing & singing "Dreams" by herself on a piano in the 1998 DVD on the making of "Rumours."
It's very ... nice ... but it isn't exactly what had the whole nation hypnotized in 1977.
(Of course, the same could be said for dozens of Mac tracks written by the other members. It's a question we fans have often asked, in so many words: Does the song or does the track have the alchemy? I've always been a proponent of the latter.)

I loved that little bit of her playing it at the piano, and would really like to hear a scaled down version of it. I also remember the part of that documentary where Ken is at the mixing board playing all the different layers of the song, and it just amazes me how it sounds with all of those elements, and every member of the band together.
