View Full Version : Several Nicks' CD's, dropped from active status (OOP)
iamnotafraid

Recently several of Stevie's solo CD's were removed from active status,
making them OOP (out of print). I'm sure many are still in stock right
now at retailers, but if you don't have any of these particular titles....
WILD HEART
ROCK A LITTLE
OTHER SIDE OF THE MIRROR
STREET ANGEL
Even TISL has had it's suggested price lowered to $7.98
If I were an optimist I'd think maybe we have some Remasters coming.
On the other hand, if I were a pessimist I'd think there's no market for
those older titles. After all CD is dead or dying (dang you downloaders!).

I'm a pessimist, but I think this means remasters. The fact that "Bella Donna" isn't on that list makes me wonder, though.

Why do cd's go out of print? Is it based on sales? Or is it based on the artist's status with the label? Wouldn't the label continue to print the back catalogue - especially of a popular artist?

I hope they put together nice packages for the remasters. Stevie is known for a nice package.
I love lots of nice photographs from the young adulthood years, with midnight-suede platform boots, silk opera hat, & velour GYOW jacket.
Demos & such I don't care so much about. But I love reminiscences (sp?) from wonderful old critics like Steve Pond, Ken Tucker, & David Gans.

[QUOTE=CADreaming;806944]Why do cd's go out of print? Is it based on sales? /QUOTE]
Based on the list I provided you would think it would be due to lack of sales.
But if they are being deleted because of the upcoming remasters you'd think
(like Luke suggested) that Bella Donna would be on that list of OOP. Surely it
would be the first to be remastered. Followed by my favorite, WILD HEART.
I wonder if anyone would be interested in me posting the 2 CD set(s) track list
w/bonus artwork (for Bella, Wild, Rock and Mirror)?

All of Stevie's albums are being sold just fine at amazon.com...it says nothing about out of print.

It's like there's an entire Dean Martin show going on just beneath the surface.

MacMan, you know me, would I kid about something like this???
Whitewingdove73, I did mention in my original post about the CD's
being still in stock at many retailers (online anyway).
David, "Stevie is known for a nice package"......that joke writes itself,
doesn't it?

So not sure if this means that the downloads will also be deleted. I know that alot of major record stores (look at me calling them record stores) hardly even sell CDs anymore. You walk in, look around the store for the CD you are after, but instead of taking a CD, you take a laminated card to the sales desk, and they will either burn the disc for you there, or download the tunes onto your MP3 player. Me thinky the CD has had its day in the techno sun.
That said, I would love a remaster! I have so many double copies of CDs becasue when I bought them they were just the normal version, and then they remastered a few years later.

only a few Stevie albums are available on iTunes Australia, basically only Bella Donna, Enchanted and Crystal Visions.

They're all on iTunes US. They're on CD overseas on Reprise (Modern was folded). I keep finding the EU EMI reissues of The Wild Heart at fye (tip for collectors!). I guess EMI had a tonne of copies left to sell after their non-US contract with Modern expired.

That's exactly what it's based on....the labels used to do quarterly reviews....if a particular title showed continued lack of sales over a period of time, it was cut out. It might be even more frequent now.
That said, I really hope this signifies a batch of remasters....the fact that BELLA DONNA isn't on the list might be due to it's continued strong sales....they may be keeping the original version around until the last minute.
Plus, while not as huge as BELLA DONNA, I would think the sales on THE WILD HEART still have to be pretty strong. The other three? Not so much (in fact, I'm actually surprised THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MIRROR and, especially, STREET ANGEL, weren't cut out long ago!).

Damn it, I joined to comment on the band and I'm getting sidetracked by so much unnecessary inane chatter. :distress:

Where? Same place they've always been.
And if you're wondering "they" are not the
same sources for the threads you mentioned.
Those particular threads were....well....um...,
let's just say based on grey matter sources.

Instead of making you read through all my post (might cause brain damage),
you could look at the date I first posted the track listing and other info about
the upcoming release of "The Soundstage Sessions" and "Live In Chicago". As
you will read, many doubted that thread at first.

i didn't say your claim is false. but unless and until you cite a credible source, there's no point in speculating about remasters.

I guess these titles going out of print is a consequence of so many CD chain stores closing at the time. If there are less outlets to buy CDs, less stock is needed.
It seems that the record labels have realized that their business is suffering from deflation when you can get all of these titles for circa $1 used if you are lucky enough online. So they just downsize supply to allow the prices to recover, which is good for their business, but rather less for the public presence of an artist.
Even the Rolling Stones have titles running out at the time ...
Somehow, I fear that the labels are willing to go entirely digital, to save the cost of manufacturing and physical distribution. Mp3s are crappy sounding, so I oppose that.

Carrie if you're talking about the remasters quoted here, then
I'd say................................
But to the original point of this thread about Stevie's CD's being dropped
from active status, that part is fact.

Well to get this thread back on track, the titles I listed are dropped from
active status. And yes, you can find most if not all those CD's for sale online.
How long, well that's anyone's guess.
Remasters? Remember it's not a lie if you believe it's true.

Those titles being dropped should surprise no one. There are a handfull of record stores (or at least places where you can buy CD's still) and basically they usually only have the biggest selling catalog albums by an artist. I haven't seen the title listed in stores in a while. In fact "Street Angel" was already on the indangered list a long time ago, but was rescued by the release of "The Dance". Back around 1995/6 you could find "Street Angel" in the cut-out bin for 99 cents. Then once "The Dance" became a hit, it was pulled and put back into the $12.99 price range.
Itunes and other download sites (Rhapsody) have lots of titles that haven't been in print on CD for years. In some cases I've found titles that have never been on CD, they have only been released for download.

This doesn't surprise me...i have NEVER seen any of these 4 titles in the CD section of any store...the 3 titles that are usually under Stevie Nicks in any of these stores that sell CD's are always Bella Donna, Timespace, and Crystal Visions, and i've seen TISL twice, and Enchanted once.

Well, everytime I went to CD stores there were Rumours, Very best of and Tango in the Night under Fleetwood Mac. But I may not be the right person to ask because I get my music usually online or from the record collections of nice people. It's sad that CD's time is over but who knows how long the mp3's time will last. Everything's changing constantly.

The Barnes and Noble book store near me always has a good selection...for Stevie they have pretty much one of all her solo stuff unless it is just out of stock. I got a lot of my pre-buckingham nicks Fleetwood Mac CDs at barnes and noble too - they have all sorts of stuff there.

Stevie's analog days are almost over. Warner finally put to death the
"Bella Donna" Cassette ( yes, it's just went off the active list).
All that's left from Stevie in the analog format is the "Crystal Visions"
2 LP set.
Eight active Stevie titles left (if you include DVD).
Goodbye Stevie........dang you downloaders!
