Hi everyone! I am a new Ledgie, though I have been reading for a while. I saw the first Unleashed show in Chicago, and it was just the nudge I needed to officially join. It was an awesome night.

I just had to share that I heard Stevie's version of Crash on XM at work tonight. It was so funny because the song began and everyone thought it was Dave Matthews and then Stevie started singing. My friends got a confused look on their faces and said, "Is this Stevie Nicks?" and I said "Yep, it sure is!" Someone said "Well, I guess if anyone can try to cover Dave it would be Stevie." I was so excited to hear a new Stevie song on the radio!

Does anyone know how much airplay Crash is getting?

It was on The Spectrum, which is channel 45, I think. They used to plan a ton of FM on The Bridge, which is channel 27, but now that channel is some weird Paul McCartney's Fireman Radio or something.

I also heard it tonite, in my grocery store (in Toronto). I couldn't believe it. As much as I love to hear Stevie on the radio, I just wish it wasn't this song. Am I the only one that doesn't dig this cover? :sorry:

I've heard Crash on Sirius Satellite Radio several times since Sunday! I have Stevie as one of my stored artists in my car so I cant remember which stations though.

I was playing my XM radio and had on channel 45 The Spectrum, and i happened to fall asleep, and when i woke up at 2:30 AM, they were playing Crash by Stevie, and at the end of the song the announcer said "Stevie Nicks, doing a cover version of a song that was originally from the DMB, and that's fair enough that she does that, because so many people have covered Stevie Nicks songs in their time, everyone from Beyonce to The Tearing Down of Berlin...a great version of Crash Into Me." I'm so happy this is getting airplay because the song and Stevie really deserve it!

I too wish it were a brand new Stevie song rather than a cover, but it's very exciting to hear positive buzz about the Soundstage package. Maybe good press and fan reaction will spur Stevie to realease some new material . . .

As far as I'm concerned, it would be the same thing as if a songwriter handed Stevie a song and she recorded it...Crash is brand new to the Stevie catologue, and it's brand new to me too.

I'm just glad that Stevie is doing anything related to music these days. After all, she could have taken Grace Slicks' advice and let the younger musicians "have the stage". By not doing so, Stevie has let a whole new generation see her live. Her legend is now, and not just being read about in books, seen in videos posted on Youtube, or dusty records being rummaged through in music store bins.

Keep listening! After I read this thread, I got in my car later that day and caught Stevie singing "Crash" about mid-way through the song. It was the Spectrum channel 45. The studio recording sounded fabulous from what I heard!

I have also heard XM playing a lot of Fleetwood Mac on the Classic Vinyl channel 46 ( at least Gold Dust Woman and Second Hand News). It is exciting hearing Stevie & Fleetwood Mac getting more airplay!

I just heard it a little while ago. Sounds really good! The channel is an adult album rock station.

I was at work, serving tables the other morning and it came on! I was in the middle of serving in my regular 4 table section and also had a 14 person group that I was serving. I just stopped in the middle and said, "Do you all hear that?!?!!" Everyone looked at me like I was mad! I just grinned and said, "Come on, best song, ever! And... it's Stevie Nicks!" Most people were so happy to hear her again! (These poeple were all over 30 btw...) I was all about it. Great. I don't mind working so much, now...

OH! I didn't mean it like that! LOL Silly goose! I was illustrating the Nicks-ignorance of today's youth. Very few people under 25 know who she is. There was one chick that I guess was 16 and she was like AWESOME! And I was like, "See! Good Parents!" lol Not everyone liked that, but who cares?! Do you think we should call our local radio stations and start requesting Crash?

I agree, I don't it dig at all!!! I don't even like it when D.M. sings it. She certainly does not need to cover any other artists song and why she chose that one is beyond me....

Well, that's the thing for me. I really liked the Soundstage performance and didn't like Crash before that -- but for me it's not a question of liking it. I just don't need her to do any covers, not even spectacular ones. I've never even heard the DMB version, but just knowing it's not written by her makes it "not new" in my book. It's a psychological distinction I guess, rather than a logical one. But that's how I feel.

If other artists are given new songs by songwriters to record (which is pretty much how it works in the music biz today), than how is Stevie recording Crash any different than Stevie recording "It's Only Love" which was written by Sheryl Crow and was considered a "new" song?

I don't get it...even when she gives us something new, it's still not good enough.

I think it's considered "not good enough" because it is a crap song. Simple as that. And to be honest I don't think it's a particularly inspired version of a crap song.

Also, recording a newly-written song by someone else and recording a note-for-note replica of someone else's hit song are two entirely different things. With a new song, the artist has to put their own interpretation and feel into it, whereas with a faithful cover, it's just a matter of plugging your voice into a pre-existing template. There is nothing particularly clever or novel about Stevie's cover of "Crash," which is a shame. It begs the question "Why bother?" much in the way that Stevie's cover of "Free Fallin'" begged that same question. Although, admittedly, the vocals on "Free Fallin'", especially the passage beginning with "I wanna glide down over Mulholland..." are just so impassioned and pretty- definitely not the case with "Crash."

I have to admit that before I heard it, I was excited when people at the concert reported Crash, because it seemed like such a departure for her. I didn't think of it as a song she'd choose to cover. The choice itself seemed edgy. Once I heard the performance itself, I thought it stunk. However, the Soundstage performance was greatly improved over the ones that preceded it and I actually look forward to that track on the DVD.

However, I don't consider a cover of another band's song "new." And it does nothing to satiate the desire for new material from her. It's not a question of not being "good enough." It could be great as far as covers go, but I don't see it as moving forward or growing artistically or giving me, as a fan, anything new to think about.

The day I go to a concert and rejoice that she's put a "new" song like Rock and Roll into her setlist, is the day I cut off my ears.

That's your personal opinion of the song, which has nothing to do with the fact that the song is new to Stevie's catalogue and recorded body of work, whether some like it or not. I think many fans on here are completely spoiled and unless they get what they want, they will always complain and find something wrong with anything Stevie is doing. If you don't like the song, that's perfectly fine, because it's all a matter of taste, but to say it's not good enough to be considered a "new" song for her as an artist expanding her catalogue simply because you don't like it isn't fair in regards to her effort and desire to have the song attached to her name.

I know. I'm just teasin' :p Although, I do feel really old on this board lately (and I mean that only in a good way!) I'm so happy to see all the young new fans. I think that's fantastic! As far as requesting Crash, the radio station I listen to is classic rock and they would never play it

That's another one I don't like. It's gotta go.

It's too bad Stevie didn't cover something more popular or more known. Look what Landslide did for the Dixie Chicks. HUGE! For them and Stevie.

I fell in love with "Crash Into Me" when it was a single in '96 (seems like a lifetime ago), and it's been one of favorite songs ever since. I never in a million years would've dreamed that Stevie would someday record it -- so I'm thrilled that she did.

As far as cover tunes in general... I would always prefer to have a Nicks original, but I do think it's fun to hear which songs have made such a strong impression on Stevie to the point that she'd want to do them herself. Her cover choices are almost as good at giving us a glimpse into her psyche as her own self-penned lyrics.

I am sure that someone has already brought this up by now, but this has to be her best cover (Other than I Need to Know...)

When she says, "I wanna glide down, over Mullholand- I wanna write your name in sky..." "I wanna leave, I 'm gonna leave this world for a while..." I cry. Not uncontrolable tears, but it breaks me down a little. There is such an image she creates. I feel like I am involved in this grand love affair along with her. It's almost like a ride that I have this amazing ticket for.

Crash? I adore this cover. Mainly, because I enjoyed the original. Also, because when I saw her do this live, she grabbed her skirt and shoook it up over her little legs- toward her thighs and I just went nuts! She seemed so full of life. I like seeing people do material they love. (Covers or not...)

This reminds me of Amy Winehouse (hold on, it will makes sense- I promise) Initially, she enjoyed signing Rehab. After a periodof time it became too real for her and became too much. She started bombing it and it became painful to watch. Now, Valerie, which still enjoys, sounds great (well as great as Amy Winehouse can sound.)

My point: I dig Crash because she digs doing it.
