While organizing and sorting tracks, I realized how few times I've actually listened to any live performances of I Can't Wait. I remember Stevie claiming it was difficult for her to perform live and that it often didn't gel on-stage. Here are 10 performances from the Rock a Little tour, plus 3 re-mixes for a lucky 13.
UK single sleeve (when it was re-released in conjunction with Timespace)

Thanks! I think I'll have a listen. I normally don't touch RAL shows because I haven't gotten that far w my trading site, but I'm interested in hearing these now!

Poplar Creek is a good one. The one from Cloaks and Daggers is a good one also. Or is that the same show? I can't keep them all straight anymore. :o

Stevie can still do this song...or any song for that matter. The problem she evidently had was remembering the lyrics and song structure.

They are the same.
Does anyone happen to have the Hartford CT RAL show from 5/2/86? That was my first Stevie show and no one seems to have that show. The problem is she also played New Haven CT on that tour (in July I think) and that has been circulating as the Hartford show. One way to tell them apart is that the Hartford show opens with "Gold Dust Woman".

Parts of the RAL tour are a mess, the drug use was at an all time high (pardon the pun) during this tour and there are really bad performances. Check out her performance of "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" from New York, it is God-awful. She's not singing so much as slurring her way thru the song.

It's funny how Stevie always said that I CAN'T WAIT was too hard to "play," implying that the band had trouble with it. The band had no trouble with it. Stevie was the one with the trouble.

I collected 1986 shows on cassette during the tour itself. A gal named Debbie from New Jersey sent me the May 2 show & the May 3 show in the same package in 1986. They both start with GOLD DUST WOMAN. The show is out there -- it's been passed around for twenty years.
It may have been De Stefano but I can't remember.

You and I have the same ears! What's neater than her barking out "well, stop it!" before the last part of each chorus?

I know it's out there, but everytime anyone has sent it to me, it's the New Haven show. The New Haven show does not start with "Gold Dust Woman" as that had been dropped from the set list by that point (two months later).

Oh don't get me wrong, I hear the beauty in Stevie muffing up the songs as well. I have often thought of putting together a collection called "The Worst Of Stevie" and it would be songs from concerts that didn't go so well. From the '86 New York "Stop Draggin'" to the 1983 Oklahoma "Leather and Lace" where she starts with the second verse, stops the song, says "Wait, Don's not here! Let's start this again!", to the 1989 Bristol CT, "If you f*ck with my fans...." speech, to the '01 California show where she was clearly losing her voice and tried to get thru the first few songs before telling the crowd that she's going to try and clear this up and if she can't she'll just do a Q&A thing instead. Lot's of little gems out there!

...you should include every I Can't Wait in existence (demo, studio, remixes, bootlegs, and all living memory).

Yep. But that show has it's moments. I love it when she sings Talk To Me and ad libs the "I'm in town" part. I often wondered if she was directing that at Jimmy Iovine.

You and I have the same ears! What's neater than her barking out "well, stop it!" before the last part of each chorus?Or "And THIS one says!"
& then raggifying in front of Sharon's mic like Regan/Linda Blair, words concatenated in rapid succession into one giant Super-Word: "I-don't-think-you-should-ever-dooooo-that----don't-dooooooooo-that!!!!"
I mean, that isn't the worst of Stevie. That's the best of Stevie.

and she gets even shaggier at Jones Beach, remember? She throws in a croaky "weeellllllllllll" into the "I don't think you should do that, don't that, don't do that" rap.
And Elescia's soulful vocals really added something to that song, didn't it?

Absolutely!! I love the idea of "The Worst of Stevie" compilation. The Rock A Little tour was the first time I saw Stevie solo (first was with Fleetwood Mac on the Mirage tour). I was so disappointed -- I knew she could do better. Conversely, a friend who was a casual less discernable fan thought it was a great show. Given how Stevie has cleaned up, it's kind of fun to hear her being so messy during that time.
