What is Stevie saying (spoken not sung) during the instrumental part of this song just before her trademark howel? It is right after she sings "If I'm wasting my time....make up your mind ...well..." It sound a little "Exorcist" but i know she is saying something that has some type of significance. Appreciate any opinion on this and I fully accept there may not even be an answer to this. I tried palying it backwards...I think she might be saying " Don't buy Pat Benatar records." LOL!!

It's funny because when Rock A Little came out I was thinking "How WILL we feel twenty years from now?" It's seems so weird now because 20 years from now was 3 years ago!!!!

I do that all the time! Sometimes I like my mis-heard lyrics even better!
Actually, I listened to the song for so many months before I bought the RAL album (I had taped the video from MTV) and it wasn't until I read the lyrics that I found out what she was really saying. I thought it was just some sort of weird dream-like thing and not actually words (though, I could faintly hear the "yearsh from now" part.
Oh, and that's not a typo. The way I hear it clearly, she says "yearsh" and not "years".
And how odd is that little gremlin-type voice? :D

I can't remember if it's on the album lyrics or where I have seen it, but I know I have seen it printed as alternating:
How will we feel twenty years from now
How will we feel ten years from now (or vice-versa).

There was a thread asking that question 3 years ago ... I can't find it now, though, maybe someone remembers it?

ewewewewew! Does she really say Mick in there somewhere? Because, right before the first howwillwefeeltwentyyearshfromnow there is some other nano-second of something being said, which I can't make out and is not on the lyrics.
Makes sense in some weird way, because Mick's in the video.
Want to hear something bizarre? The first time I saw the video on MTV, I thought it was Nipsy Russell (and not Mick). Don't ask me why.

I've always thought this song was about Joe Walsh since they did brake up during the recording of RAL LP....she does state that she was so in love with him that she'd have given up 'her damned career' for him. So...she was posing the question 'How will we feel 20 yrs from now?".......at least thats what I sum up out of that song......she couldn't wait to see him and she loved him alot but it didn't work out.....but she'll always love him. (recall the demo song: She Loves Him Still....Joe ? maybe Lindsey.....who knows a combination of many past loves of her life?).....just some random thoughts...............
Guess only Stevie really knows......

David Letterman a while back said that he used to play that song because he could never wait to get her on his show, in the mid 80's. So he used to play that song. Or something like that.:]

Plus, isn't it also printed in the lyrics/liner notes? I don't remember, and don't have access to the CD right now.

I'm not sure if I can here mick in the album version. But on one of the live versions I've heard before she does say 'How will we feel 20 years from now, Mick?' It might have been early on in the RAL tour but I don't really remember.

I didn't, actually. And I can't even explain why, to tell you the truth. I just loved her Lindsey, Don Henley and Joe Walsh affairs for some reason. Maybe it's because Mick does that solo on 'World Turning' that sends me to the concession stand (LOL!).
Seriously, my "ew" has no basis in any rational thought at all. I just have my own crystal vision of Stevie, and an affair with Mick seems to not fit in correctly. But, it seems like she has counted him as a great love in her life.
And who am I to argue about love? What's more magical and mysterious? :xoxo:

I've always heard the "Mick" in there, too. I put my headphones on and listened again real close to make sure, and I still hear it.

Do you ever look at the one you love and ask, "How will you feel ten years from now?" When I read through this thread all I could think is how will my love feel ten years from now? Will he still be my love? Will he be my friend? Will I know him? The thoughts poured and poured. I know that ten years from now if he is still there I would lay at his feet. I have never had a love that long. I am sure that I would be different. Less wild, more kind, and a better guy. I guess what I am asking is, How do YOU think your love will feel ten years from now? I think I know my answer. What is your's?
Don't blame it on me... Blame it on my wild heart...

On a related note... what in the hell is being said in the intro to Outside the Rain? I can hear Stevie singing "It's only a dream" the last time, but that's it. Everything else is too garbled and layered to understand. Maybe I need a hearing aid! :]

For "I Can't Wait" I never looked at the lyrics and all these years I thought she was chanting "Highly inspirational."
And for "Outside the rain" - I hear "It's only a dream."
Isn't it funny how so many of us hear so many different things in Stevie's songs? Same song ... totally different lyrics! Like smoke and mirrors ...

I have always thought that was a sample from a movie or something rather than Stevie speaking. I don't think it sounds like her at all. Even if it's her, it's sampled and played over and over, it's not her repeating the line. I don't know why but I always thought it was "How will we feel twenty years from now... looking back". But I can easily see how "back" and "Mick" sound similar and my mind might be filling in "looking" part.
Your Nipsy Russell quote reminded me of something. When I first got the HBO Special on VHS I was obsessed with Gold And Braid. I figured that since it wasn't on any of her albums it was probably a cover and was going crazy trying to find out who originally did it. Around that time I was also starting to get into Roky Erickson from The 13th Floor Elevators. There was a song called "I Had To Tell You" that I was listening to constantly. Now, I have no idea why or how but I somehow thought these songs sounded similar, not musically but in theme and writing style. Looking back now, maybe not so, but at the time they were both stuck in my head together. So I became convinced that Roky Erickson had written Gold and Braid. After hearing more of Erickson's songs I can honestly say he's miles away from Stevie, except that they both wrote songs having to do with the supernatural with Stevie singing about visions and witches and Roky singing about vampires and ghosts. Maybe that was the connection. I don't know. But after reading this post I don't feel so bad about the Roky/Stevie connection considering someone else made a Nipsy Russel/Mick Fleetwood connection.
