Old album reissued?

By JANE STEVENSON

Anyone who has followed the long musical and personal saga of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks knows that they made an excellent 1973 album, Buckingham Nicks, which was a commercial failure but has since regained cult status.

It was also re-issued in 1976 when the two hit it big after they joined Fleetwood Mac. However, it's never been released on CD, something Buckingham thinks could happen in the next couple of years with a possible tour behind it for the one-time lovers.

"If it is going to happen it would probably happen in the next two, three years," Buckingham said.

"It's sort of a symptom of the fact that the band spends long periods of time apart, that Stevie and I don't talk a lot, that people who are 'the handlers' tend to think that there will be an optimum time to do that that will coincide with a marketing plan."

Does Buckingham, now married with three kids, mean a tour with Nicks to support its CD release?

"That could certainly happen, that would be fun," said Buckingham, currently on his own solo tour and beginning rehearsals in January for a Fleetwood Mac tour.

"Do we have enough material? Yes, we do. It would be its own hook, the two of us up there, it would be this complete circular thing, bringing us back to where we were in 1974, which has a poetry all its own.

"But again, the people who think in terms of marketing are thinking, 'Okay, but we have to do it at a time when we can remaster it and bonus tracks and all of this kind of stuff.' I would just re-release it myself because it is what it is!"

The story on why this album hasn't been released continues to go in circles! It's "the people who think in terms of marketing" that are at fault now!

Frozen Love live would pretty much be my dream come true.

That's really all I have to say. I'm happy with the album in mp3 format, but if they rerelease it... then they can do a tour... and then Frozen Love... Joy. Not to mention a bunch of other songs that are different from their usual sets.

Frozen Love live would pretty much be my dream come true.

That's what I thought they should have sung together when Stevie appeared as a guest on his Soundstage performance. One of their most masterful songs, making a welcome return after an absence of almost thirty years. But no, they had to sing "Say Goodbye" for the one hundredth time. I guess performing it for a year and a half straight on the Say You Will tour wasn't enough.

It's the same thing Stevie does with songs like "Enchanted", which are no more popular than scads of other neglected songs, yet she sings them to death year after year.

^ I agree 100%

They're excuse that they can only play songs that keep the casual fan portion of the audience engaged just doesn't hold water when they do songs like Say Goodbye and Enchanted every flippin time out.

Fleetwoodtrick, I'd be interested in that track if you don't mind. :) I didn't know FM ever did that one... Maybe there's hope for the upcoming tour...

OK... well... maybe not hope, per se...

You know I thought the samething "Say Goodbye" and "Never Going Back Again", whats up with that! I guess because it was LB' s show, but still. When Stevie threw in that little solo vocal on LB's Soundstage, everyone went NUTS, but Lindsey to me just didnt look like he was going for it. I hope that all of this comes to pass, but how many times has this topic been brought up and "nothing ever changes". (no punt intended) I hope though, I hope...

This is awesome news, but between the Soundstage/Live in Chicago release changes and the FM tour/possible new cd I am a bit burned out on promises...

but I would kill to see a live B/N show and the release (and, sorry Linds, of course I'd buy it if released as is, I'd absolutely love it with some bonus tracks!! :D )

I think it would be really neat to have remastered bonus tracks on it, like Without You and Cathouse Blues. Imagine if they thew a bunch of those into the set also.

Agreed. Id love for them to release it, along with the upcomming fleetwoodmac shows, do a coupple songs from it, and sell it at the stands with the t-shirts.

The only thing that makes me believe it could happen is that La Nick's will never likely do another solo album ..so it will give her an excuse to tour again..not that she really needs one.

I'd love to see a Buckingham Nicks tour, hopefully with some new material too. May only fear is that it would end in a blood bath.

I don't think a Buckingham/Nicks tour will ever happen but I think it would be absolutely amazing if it did. Between their two solo careers plus FM and the BN album, the possibilities for the setlist are endless! I think if they played theatres rather than arenas and kept the band minimial, it would be an incredible intimate experience!

Oh I hope that isn't true...she HAS to do another solo album...she's still young!

This subject came up on another board I frequent recently. I REALLY hope the album gets released someday. Until then, we will have to settle for the LP bootlegs. On that note, I have a request for anyone that may be able to help.......I'm looking for good quality scans of the "Buckingham Nicks" album cover and back. Do any scans of the back part even exist?

Rock on,

Without Christine, isn't Fleetwood Mac now essentially Buckingham Nicks sans the 1973 songs?

If they toured as Buckingham Nicks, chances are they would have Mick and John backing them, along with all the usual support players. The only difference would be the inclusion of songs from the album.

The question becomes, could they make more money by touring as BN (at smaller venues) and splitting the dough 50/50 or as touring with FM (bigger audiences) and splitting the money 25/25/25/25.

If it's the former, that would be the point of touring as BN. Smaller show, fewer overhead expenses, bigger percentage of the take.

So silly, isn't it? Such a long delay and this could have been so simple to release years ago. Crap, I read Stevie interviews from around 1989 or so and she said "Lindsey and I will tweak it one of these days..."
I actually thought a great time for this to be re-released would have been in '97 when The Dance came out and there was so much buzz.

A Stevie/Lindsey show does sound interesting though. But, I have this weird feeling that we'd still have to hear 'Stand Back'.

Exactly! I had said that on the SYW tour...it was Buckingham/Nicks redux with the best rhythm section in the world...that would have been the ideal time to both release and revisit the B/N album...

Considering that they are planning another tour - without anything new to offer -- this would be a great time to reintroduce that album/material. At least that would breathe some "old/new" life into the show. Of course that won't happen in a thousand years...too many people with heads up their asses.

Truly, is any long-time fan really elated that there are no immediate plans for a new album or any other artistic endevour---just more touring around, playing the oldies. Why another tour??? It reeks of the thought: "Hey, lets do the same thing we did last time and grab as much cash as we can...while we can!"

Excellent point! I personally hope it happens because that smaller venue vibe is so much better. It's like being in a living room. I would love to just hear LB on guitar and them singing - it would be like listening to them practice back in the day. Cool stuff.

Unless they have Gary Hodges or Bob Aguirre on drums and Tom Moncrieff on bass, I'm frankly not that interested in a duo BN set. I think it would suck.

Nobody gives two shits about those has-beens, but I realize you're parroting the "company" line here.
