It was 2,535 days between the release of Street Angel and the release of Trouble in Shangri-La.
As of today, it has been 2,633 days since the release of Trouble in Shangri-La.

Since Street Angel had come out before I became a Stevie fan, its release seemed like a very, very long time ago in my mind. TISL was Stevie's first studio album in 8 years!!
It is really, really crazy for me to think that we're just about at that same length of time.

To be fair she did appear on a new Fleetwood Mac album with almost an entire new solo album's worth of "new " songs between TISL and now ..however during the 8 years between SA and TISL she never let it be forgotten that she was working on a new solo album ..now her attitude is most often "why bother" which is really the disheartening part along with the big gap in time.

Eh, if people choose to complain, so be it...it's a complete waste of time and energy. I'm looking forward to the new Soundstage CD and DVD and the new Mac album in 2009. There are many exciting things that lie ahead in the next year for every member of Fleetwood Mac.

That information is absolutely 100% not confirmed by FM. If Stevie says we're getting a new album, we're getting a new album. Although if it is true, it will have enough new tracks on it to satisfy the time gap. If they're going to drag this out for 2 years, it will have plenty of good stuff on it. Plus TVBOFM had no newly recorded tracks on it...the newest stuff was from The Dance tour.

Actually, her last Gh package contained R&R, which was her latest solo recording. She also recorded The One with Vanessa Carlton. On the Soundstage, I believe she is releasing The One, Circle Dance, Crash, and R&R.
So, though there is a paucity of it, we have gotten some covers and a duet
I want more

If Fleetwood Mac can record an entire NEW album between now and their embarking on a 2009 tour I will stand in Union Square and eat my hat for any of the Bay area ledgies left on here to witness.

Well I was actually thinking about this the other day oddly. The who stagnation thing aqnd if this has been the longest we've gone without new material and I agree that the stagnation period must start at April 16th 2003 on. Inbetween SA and TISL we got Sweet Girl thats it. And tourwise The Dance was a very short tour as was Enchanted. Since TISL we got 10 new Stevie songs from SYW, which is equal to a Bella Donna or Wild Heart. Then the freaking SYW tour was the longest tour in Fleetwood Mac history (Tusk tour condensed their dates into under a year, SYW went to mid September 2004)
OK since then we can say she's been stagnant to a point. But really after 1998, Stevie did absolutely shit for the next 3 years aside from those millenium shows. Since 2005 she did that rather unnecasary Gold Dust Tour although that show at Blossom Music Center that year was the best Stevie concert I've been too and I got to touch her for the Edge so from a selfish standpoint I can't consider her stagnant for that year. 2006, she toured with Petty, which is somethign she did for herself and I guess we can all say we got some great moments there (Insdier, I Need To Know DCAHNM dancing, best SDMHA ever) then Crystal Visions was pretty pointless, CD wise, but the DVD was almost better then a new album for me, with those voice overs she gave plus the Bella Donna footage. So no it was a new album in the classic sense, but shit we all enjoyed it as much,. Then came the following tour, which you can pretty much say was the recording sessions for her upcoming first ever live album via Soundstage, which is GDW is any indication will be an INCREDIBLE concert and DVD and CD.
Now this year's East Coast 15 date random is kind of pointless, but danm has she been giving some good performances, and who hasn't loved Face the Promise, which I will say for the fourth time is like a new song written by another artist no different then Tallk To Me was.
So in conclusion, We must start the count from April 16th 2003 which puts us at like 1,555 days and i'm more or less estimating, correct me if im wrong. And even then I think it has to be some sort of weighted 1,555 days  so i'm gonna subtract a years worth of days from that and I come up with 1190 days of stagnation
So in my reworking she has about until Summer 2011 to not have a new longest stagnation period. Disagree if you must, but this is science

Ok...good point! But in their interviews thoughout 2008, neither Stevie or Lindsey have mentioned anything about a compilation album, not once. Both of them have talked about recording new material for a new album. But if it does turn out to be a compilation album, i think it will be half old stuff and half new stuff, or half newly recorded old stuff and new stuff. I'm excited for whatever album they decide to do because either way we are getting new music.

Ok i'm glad you qualified it some more ..given what we know about any Buckingham Nicks era album from Rumours on there is no way in hell an entire album of new material could be completed in anything less than two years perhaps even longer now given the contention between those two over production.

I don't know if that's why she stopped it, but I know she thought they were looking at her like they wanted to have kinky sex, whereas rock stars all just have "normal" sex. Actors are really perverted.

The director responsible for David Bowie's "The Man Who Fell to The Earth" was signed on for it as I recall..I guess the thinking was that if he could handle one eccentric rock star in a film he could handle another..I remember later in her Bella Donna era Playboy interview she said movie people creeped her out as they looked kind of plastic and got up early to work just when she was turning in ,so the hours were not for her either.

There was more than that with all the soundtrack songs. But even if we conclude that the 90's dry period was dryer than the current dry period, that isn't some kind of glorious vindication for her.
Like i said, either way we're getting new music, so what do we have to complain about?
The thought that it might be another half-decade wait following this new album is not a pleasant one, so maybe there's that.

I think Stevie has given us alot since TISL, in terms of live stuff. However, I hardly think you can trust what she says in interviews as 100 percent factual. I know Strand will prolly say she changed her mind.
2004....according to Lindsey, she and Mick were handing him set lists and planning out mic positions etc, for the next Mac tour. Stevie was telling fans in Oz that FM was gonna tour again, but Chris would not join them.
2007.... Stevie really doesnt want to ever be a part of FM again, without Christine. She says this several times and explains why she feels this way. She even says they tried it with SYW and it did not work.
2008.....Stevie will record and tour with FM, as long as LB is the primary producer.
Stevie was always going to tour with FM. Love /hate, hot/cold equals moula.

I added the "(not)" in the highlighted statement because that's what the rumor says, which is just that, a rumor. My quote of "If Stevie says we are getting a new album, we are getting a new album" stems from how Stevie has said that TISL is her masterpiece, and the fact that no all-original studio album has followed that up yet. She said she wasn't planning on following that up anytime soon, and she hasn't. So when i said "If Stevie says we are getting a new album, we are getting a new album", i'm referring to how when it comes to a studio album, if she says we're getting it, we're getting it, and when she says we're not, we're not. Plus, her and Lindsey have been on the same page about this recently, which is rare. As for everything else she promises (like the Rhiannon project) that's either hot air, wishful thinking or she really just has never gotten around to it.
As far as her past statements that she refuses to tour with FM unless Christine comes back...we all know that was Stevie playing her little game, and not to say it was all purely intentional on her part, but we know that was just Stevie being Stevie.

Doesn't coke cause you to be paranoid? LOL
Stevie has often said she never wanted to be an actress, especially when she talks about making videos. She was cute on Chris Isaak's show. A Rhiannon flick would be cool-maybe as a CGI fantasy, or done like Beowulf was.
Back to topic...it does seem that things are livening up with the holy trinity of rock: Stevie, Lins and Mac!
Even Stevie's set has come out of stagnation. She has such a library of great music she has to shake it up more. I would not die if she did not do Dreams in her shows(and kept it for Mac shows)and maybe played "Ooh My Love" or "Belladonna" instead; something rare.

Well yes coke does fo that - but the tenor of the times, FM sole tens of millios of records without videos. During that time, there was a resistance to videos by all the major acts. They did not get that touring alone could not cut it. And, even the live concert footage was something for one moment. Videos were horrifying to the acts then - perhaps in vain and the drugs aside. I think "they"were scared of the changed medium.
But, I agree with you, stop the covers and do your own songs

Stevie has often said she never wanted to be an actress, especially when she talks about making videos. When I listen to her line readings of the Dickens work from some years back, I give Stevie a lot of credit for deciding not to be an actress. She's always known what her strengths are: writing songs, singing, performing rock music, &c. The world is filled with embarrassing "crossovers" (from Will Smith to Madonna to . . . ) & by avoiding that, Stevie has maintained integrity.

I think the Europeans loved the concept more than the American large rock bands. I also think that the things like Don Kirschner rock concerts, the Midnight Special, and all were the videos of the 70's . Hell, even Solid Gold over here in the states continued that concept, with a twist, into the 80's . Interstingly, Barbara Streisand did the first video that I can recall when she did that tv show where she was singing and running through, I believe, a museam.
But, ABBA def. was a pioneer so to speak.

Music videos are even older. Early jazzers pioneered the short format in the 1930s & early 1940s.
Duke Ellington, "Symphony in Black" (with a young Billie Holiday)

My favorite: Lester Young, "Jammin' the Blues" (which is an amazing visual effort)

It must be hard to release an album knowing it won't go to number 1 or be the hottest thing on the charts. Barely ANYONE can do that anymore, but the older you are, the harder it is.
John Mellencamp, Bruce, Eagles...all seem to make it political, valid in some way. These are like our dads and somehow they break through the age barrier.
But Stevie...being UNpolitical for the most part ( and thank GOD for that) ---she has the fans ( look at how well Soundstage sold for PBS) it's just so hard to be platinum anymore. Especially when the new age of Mp3s and all that jazz...it's a very young market.
She could tie in with Wallmart or Target but even that's really hard since they are closing down their music sections. I see artists tying in with Overstock.com...but that seems really cheesy.
So in Stevie's defense...I could understand why she would say why bother. Spend all that money, take all that time and would it be worth it?
I hate that I became a fan in 1997. I got to see SO much but I missed so much...now she is 60 and how long can we expect the rock artists of her era to keep touring?? I am 30 and I couldn't imagine how hard it is to tour for months at a time, away from home, having to be "on" every single night. At 60?!
I don't know...I guess I don't expect much from her anymore...I am happy for what she does...but I just keep listening to the same old songs that I love and gazing at the old pics that I cherish and tell myself that I may not see her again live....I may not get too many new songs...but she's done so much...she's given up everything for her music...she doesn't owe us a thing :):):)
