I'm thinking about going to Jones Beach show this weekend (if tix still available). I'm not used to leaving manhattan/brooklyn. Is it easy to get from the train stop on the LIRR to a bus to the stadium and back? (?)

Also, is anyone else going?

I wish I could help with that. I am driving in from Boston...and believe me the directions are from hell!

It's been a few years since I've done it, but these are the directions:

Via Public Transportation: From Manhattan:
LIRR to Freeport, then buses to Jones Beach. Call 718-217-5477
Bus from Freeport:
The information # for patrons is, 516-228-4000 and it's option #2. The bus will start
on May 24th. The bus route # is JB62 out of Freeport.

As I recall, you pick up the LIRR at Penn Station (32nd and 7th) and when you get off at the Freeport station, just ask someone. It's right on the same street, just around the corner from the stairs, I think.

And, then be sure to ask the driver to tell you the best exit to get off for Jones Beach for the concert, because there seem to be a few stops and some of them are quite far from the actual venue itself.

Good luck!

I'm going! :wavey:

We're taking Amtrak from Albany into Manhattan Friday night and staying over Friday & Saturday. Saturday, we'll take the LIRR from Penn to Freeport, then the shuttle to Jones Beach. Apparently we want to get off at Parking field #5.

I've never done this before so it should be quite the adventure.

Here's a link with info that should help you out.

Here's another link with the bus schedule. We want bus N88

I was a bit worried about the bus schedule since it said the last bus was at 10:45 p.m. which would be cutting it close.. so I called and the last bus doesn't leave until the concert ends.. so I'm New York bound tomorrow morning.

Get up, grab a cab to Union station, amtrak it to Penn Station, catch the Long Island RR, then a bus to the beach.. all this for Stevie.. :-)

now I need to find a great seat!

New Jersey Record

http://www.northjersey.com/betterliving/music/Stevie_Nicks_coming_to_the_area.html

8 p.m. Saturday, WANTAGH, N.Y.; sunday, holmdel

There’s no telling how many artists have been influenced by Stevie Nicks, the singer-songwriter whose multiple hits with Fleetwood Mac (“Dreams,” “Rhiannon”) earned her a 1998 spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and whose previous and subsequent solo work (“Stand Back,” “Rooms on Fire”) has made her a supreme goddess in the rock pantheon. Among her disciples, count Sheryl Crow, Tori Amos, Courtney Love, Belinda Carlisle and the Dixie Chicks.

TELL ME MORE: Nicks, whose penchant for shawls, capes and chiffon skirts is as well known to her fans as her charity work with wounded service members, is in the midst of a summer tour that is taking her as far west as St. Louis and as far south as Biloxi. She is said to be working on another solo album, including at least one song, “The Soldier’s Angel,” inspired by her work in military hospitals. “I’ve been writing continually,” she says.

QUOTE: “The couple of times in my life that I have been really down, music is what always dances me out of bed.” – Stevie Nicks, in the Arizona Republic

DETAILS: Nikon at Jones Beach Theater ($30 to $125), Wantagh, N.Y.; PNC Bank Arts Center ($25.25 to $125), Garden State Parkway Exit 116, Holmdel. Ticketmaster.

Stevie Nicks + Peter Cincotti, Nikon at Jones Beach Theater | 516-221-1000

Travel: LIRR to Freeport, NY; then take bus to Jones Beach

Prices, Tickets: $30, $70, $125 , Description

Make all the jokes you want about Stevie Nicks’s gauzy robes, loopy affectations or alleged former excesses; none of it mattered anymore when Fleetwood Mac rocketed back to relevance thanks to that live video of “Silver Springs,” a song her bandmates didn’t even regard highly enough to include on Rumours. She had the last laugh then, and she always will. Face it, Stevie owns you. In the opening slot, the dashing piano-pop hunk Peter Cincotti will happily slay the ladies (in the nice way) tonight.
