I was bidding on 2 stevie tour books on ebay and I had 1 min. and 30 seconds on one and 3 minutes on another one and I was watching them like a hawk, and then suddenly they were sold to someone???:distress:What does that mean? That's not fair. They only out bid me by 50 cents and when I saw that I went back immediately and tried to bid an extra 1.00 on it it was sold!
What kind of crap is this with ebay? Does this sh#t happen all the time on their site? It was my first time doing this, but still I was watching like crazy on those damn books and to make it worse it was the same person who won them both at the same time! WTF!? Someone please help me understand why this happens. I have wanted these books for so long now my heart is broken.:(

I got screwed out of a Mirage Songbook and I too was devastated. When I left for school that morning, there was 16 hours left in the action, and when I got home eight hours later, SOLD!
Oh well...:distress:

There is a trick to winning on eBay, first if you REALLY want something, you have to place your max bid pretty high. Say the current bid is $20, if you put a max bid in of $25, you most likely won't win. But if you put in a max bid of say $50 you may very well win the item, but be prepared to pay up to $50 for the item.
Also there are people who just sit and watch the bidding. As the final seconds are winding down, they throw in another bid, in most cases a large max bid which will trump what you bid. It's an auction, that's how it works.

Is there a trick to this ebay thing or is maybe a time difference to where the item is located ?

There's also this "tool" that automatically places a bid for you in the last few seconds, there was a website about it but I can't remember what it was.....

That's how i do it, but i wait to place my max bid untill the last 30 seconds or so. And i bid a stupid amount like $ 50,99.
Usually works !

I always bid in the last 30 seconds. Or if it's something I really want I use a sniping tool which bids in the seconds before the auction ends
BTW... I wouldn't be so devastated about a couple of books. They appear on ebay all the time

That's right ! When i first started bidding on ebay i was also very disappointed whenever i did not "win" but in the meantime i have learned that everything re-appears after awhile anyway, and sometimes even a lot cheaper than before

Out of curiosity what tourbooks were they and how much? Just for reference, of Stevie's solo tours, "Street Angel" and "TimeSpace" are the rarest ones. "Rock A Little" and the more recent tours turn up all the time. "The Wild Heart" also seems to be there a lot.
Of the Fleetwood Mac tours, "Rumours" is the hard to find one. The other tours (especially the more recent ones) turn up a lot.

THis is true. THe maximum bid is the way to go. Like was said before. bid high, and bid odd. ending things in .99 or .56 i hate when other people do it, but when i do it it works and i am happy:laugh:
I know exacally what you mean, though I win and loose frequently. MOST OF THE TIME I LOOSE TO JAZMENFLOWERS!!! I KNOW ITS YOU!!!:laugh:
(seriously, it's happened at LEAST four times)
BUT keep at it. after FOREVER waiting and bidding, I am proud to announce that I am finially the proud owner of that red wild heart shirt that i have always wanted.:)

I am an ebay beeyotch. lets just say that.
We started using ebay in my household back in the 90s for lion king stuff [we have quite a collection...esp now], and my mom used to act all hardcore with the keyboard to this lady in Washington DC when she outbid us. it was quite funny actually. but anyways back to the story, she once had to pay like 100 bucks for such a small item it got so out of hand.
i started using ebay again recently to feed my Mac obsession.
I really REALLY wanted this mirage poster, the album cover one, but the full thing so john and mick were showing as well, and i put in like 25 bucks for my highest bid, some jerk put in like 26 bucks at the final seconds and won it. ever since then ive been an ebay beeyotch.
My Mirage tour shirt i got, it was only 20 bucks till the last second. i ended up paying 48 bucks for it. i put in my entire months allowence so i would win it. [50 bucks]. and my mirage tour poster....i ended up paying 22 for it, when there was another one EXACTLY like it going the next day for 15. i think some people just put in bids to make the price go higher to piss off the buyer. and then my chain box set, i put in 22 bucks for it, and i ended up paying 20, and it was only 15 till the last minute.
So seriously, like a previous poster said, put in a really high bid if you want the item. thats how i work ebay. id rather pay a lot for an item i really want than to not get it at all. and like someone had said, say the thing is currently at 20 bucks, with an hour to go, put in a bit of like 45 or higher, otherwise, i doubt youll be getting the item. a lot of people put in like 25 bids, or 5 buck incriments, and smart ebay users know not to play none of that, so they put in 10, 20, 30 incriments.
just my 2cents.
but ever since i lost that mirage poster, i vowed never to loose another item i wanted on ebay. :) my mom gave me an ebay tutorial.

Honeychild, it is time to demand a raise. My weekly allowance 20-sumpin years ago was a little more than that, and even then I thought that was a bit tight.

Sorry... I don't agree with bidding high on ebay. By all means bif high on a sniping site but why push the price way up on ebay? Bear in mind that most people wait to the end to bid anyway you're more likely to get it cheaper (unless of course they snipe it for even more).

My general feeling is that unless you are bargain hunting, go for broke during that final 30 seconds of an auction if you must have that item.
Another thing I do is I check out the competition's bidding behavior- if there are existing bids, I look at what they have won recently, how much they bid, whether they are cheapskates, whether they are last-minute snipers, whether they are undefeatable, etc. Sometimes I come to the conclusion that the other person wants it more badly than I want it.
Anyway, I know that I have some old Stevie programmes in my cedar chest- Rock a Little, OSOTM, Timespace, Enchanted, etc. How much are these going for these days?

honeychild, i think you've been spending too much time at your hamptons beach house. $50 a month is totally adequate for a teenager

oh honeychildren...
I dont actually earn my money.
I'm 15, and get my allowence from rent money from a house that I technically own [long story, its acutally quite depressing. it was left to me by my grandfather when he passed away]. the rest of the money goes to an education fund which will be most likely my college money. I just got a raise last year. it was 25 dollars.
and 50 is plenty of money for me. sorry this is sooo off topic. but i dont ever buy anything. seriously. i gave my mom my allowence to get my hair done, next month and part of may is going to my stevie ticket, and then im saving up again. have to do something big for my 16th over the summer.
thanks for the concern honeychyldren :xoxo:

That's only $1.65 per day... I mean, you can't even get a cup of coffee for that these days. And is this for clothes as well? I just can't imagine... but, okay... I must admit that I used to cut class during my senior year to go shopping at Bloomingdales on occasion. But didn't everybody do that?

Of course! My mom used to change my diapers on a bed of $100 bills. Honestly, why else would she need them?

i have no idea. $100 is such a silly denomination ... i wish the $500 were still in circulation.
