I hope I live to see the day when two men singing a love song to each other is not seen as funny.
And I also hope I live to see the day when Will Farrel dong anything isn't seen as funny.
I also hope to God Stevie doesn't watch YouTube. I have a great sense of humor but there are just some things that shouldn't be joked about.

I agree - like 9/11 or tragic deaths. Cheesy love songs & drug abuse? Yeah, those are OK by me. I hope you don't watch Chappelle's Show, you might have a heart attack.
I'm quite sure they were poking fun at the cheesiness of the song, not homosexuality. My gay boyfriend cracked up laughing when he saw this. It's funny when 2 STRAIGHT guys sing a love song to each other. And not everything Farell does is funny, but a lot of it is.
All JMO, of course.

Whether it was meant to be funny or not, I enjoyed the harmonies, and wished they'd get serious.... (Similiar to the the Smothers Brothers Show...they would start singing, and then they'd go into the comedy routine...sometimes I'd like to hear the song.)
When Dave was singing and playing, and told Will to *knock it off*, I sensed he meant it...but then again, I am very naive...and maybe that line was meant to be funny.
Still, the harmonies were excellent...and I don't know who Dave Grohl is, but I am going to look for his music...
Thanks for posting Livia!

Dave Grohl was the drummer for Nirvana, in the early 90s, and after Kurt Cobains death, he founded the rock group Foo Fighters and has been the singer/guitarest/songwriter for them snice the mid 90s.
I do happen to like a few FF songs :)
hope that helps Betsy :)

Dave Grohl is always cool, but that creep Ferrell is a creep. Remember when he was on Rosie after Stevie, & Rosie asked him about Stevie, & he just...wasn't...interested...
I wonder whether Grohl likes Fleetwood Mac a little. (If he does, it would be a little)
You never know with these rockers. Consider the strange case of Perry Ferrell, who attended the Dance taping & later told press he was amazed by the craftsmanship of the band -- the upshot being that craftsmanship was a rare commodity in rock but that FM had it.

Will Ferrell is known to be a total d*ck to fans, especially if they ask for autographs. I think for a Hollywood celebrity, when so much is riding on fans acceptance, that's a huge no-no.

OMG really? I never knew this:thumbsup: Perry Ferrell is cool. I mean, you found Lalapalooza, and well, nobody will ever take that away from you. The live version of Janes addiction's "jane says" with the extra steel drums is one of my favorite songs ever. Good for him to recognize their talent and express it.
Plus, about the video, not really THAT funny, (but then again, i just really do love the song. It will be great to show it to all my frat guy friends though, Dave grol, Will ferell, and stevie nicks are hard to put together in a conversation usually.

Total bull. He was in Ireland recently and so many people I know have told me that not only did they meet him but he was happy to chat, sign autographs, have photos taken and even have a drink with them. He wasn't even over promoting a film, he was on holiday with his family.

Rosie appeared to have invested a lot of thought and positive energy into interviewing Stevie, and was very pleased to have had Stevie as a guest. When Ferrell came on after Stevie's segments, Rosie was still exhilerated by how well Stevie's segments went, and tried to get Ferrell to comment, and as David pointed out, Ferrell was a creep, and it was on more than one level- first, he would not extend any professional courtesy to Stevie, acting superior and smug (he just looked bemused and said 'crazy' in a most condescending way when Rosie prompted him to comment favorably about Stevie's performance on the show)- and he also was a creep to act sour to Rosie, who clearly felt she and her show had something to be pleased about by Stevie's apperance on it, and he just totally acted like a dick. Scant minutes earlier, Stevie had just been on the same stage, in the same chair he was now sitting in, and he couldn't find even one good word to say, which 'professional courtesy' would dictate he indeed find, even if it were insincere. A 'professional'-- even if he intensely disliked the other performer, would not clearly indicate his indifference, out of respect to the host (Rosie) and a performer (Stevie) who far outweighed his status in the entertainment industry- it was just really, really bad form.
Now, he's making fun of her songwriting and former drug problem, while classlessly digging up the cocaine 'rumour' that Stevie has said she finds hurtful and offensive. Saying he's a cad and a misogynist seems accurate to me, but in plainer terms, the guy just sucks.

I am unsure how his mocking of La Nicks makes him a misogynist. I mean just because he mocked La Nicks does not mean he hates women as a rule  But, I do think he is a jerk based on what I have seen and heard about him. I also do not find him that funny.

As for the mockery, WF made the drug comments, not DG

Nooooo, Strandie, I'm referring to an earlier comment where someone was offended that two men singing a song to each other was considered funny.

But that is Ferrell, not the guitarist - right?
And, Ferrell is not too far from the truth in that La Nicks has said that DH was pretty much responsible for the song in that he gave her guidance, told her to do rewrites, etc.
Also - though I am not a fan, WF is in his schtick in the whole thing - so the comment was meant as humor

Well, it made me laugh! I find Will Farrell annoying and unfunny, but Dave Grohl is hot. Grohl seems intent on doing justice to the song even though it's a comedy bit and I appreciate that. His seriousness served to heighten the absurdity of the situation and make the bit even funnier.
Yeah, I noticed that Farrell acted as if the song was Henley's idea and chose one of the most vulgar jokes for Stevie, but I wouldn't read anything into it. He's just uninformed and going for the easy laugh - Farrell's specialty is bathroom humor, after all. What do you expect?
Still, I did enjoy this bit, thanks to Grohl. Like somebody said, two straight men singing a love song to each other will always be funny!

I havent' seen that clip for a long time now. It seems like alot of SNL stuff has disappeared. Not saying all, but alot of things I used to find are gone. Perhaps NBC has sniffers out, and are forcing people to pull any SNL clips off youtube. But, if you Google, it does turn up. Mostly dead links to youtube where you get the "Sorry this clip is no longer available" message. But, here someone has it tucked away on their myspace site. For now.

Maybe I do need to lighten up and I guess the humor isn't so much in two men singing to each other but in the fact that two known straight guys were singing it to each other. I still didn't think it was funny.
And I'm afraid I don't agree with the idea that if you are a celebrity then everything you have done or have been rumored to have done is okay for anyone to make fun of. I love the Stevie parodies as much as other kinds of parodies, off color humor and things like that, but making fun of something that has to be a source of great shame for someone is pretty low. I mean, true or not, that fact that the story is still around is really sad. I'm sure she wishes people would just let it go. I hope someone drudges up something really painful from Ferrel's past and brings it out into the open for everyone to laugh at someday. Just so he can see how it feels.
As for Dave Grohl, I've actually met him before and he's a really nice guy. But Will Ferrel can still bite me.

I think the main difference is that, to my knowledge, WF does not discuss his addictions in just about every interview he has given since 1997, much less calling himself an example for the younger kids to learn from. So, I think that La Nicks has put it out there for so long and, at times, joked about it herself ("packed up my tranquilers and headed to DC") - makes others feel free to joke about it too. Just my opinion though and I think other people see this sort of like black people are the only ones who can say the N word in jest because they are black - all others are jerks for doing the same

I remember a time though, that Stevie wasn't really talking much about it. And when she did, it was very vague and it seemed like she was 'talking around' the subject rather than address it head-on. This was the period immediatly following the Betty Ford coke visit. I've actually heard there was more than one coke/booze-based treatment visit which is not an 'official' part of the Stevie mythos. I think the coke/booze addiction wasn't a huge part of her lexicon because she was being 'told' by everyone how bad it was and how bad she was etc, and how lovely that she was 'just saying no' to drugs and alchohol. To her it seemed just like a normal rock stars' life and she had some great creative times. And lots of fun. The Klonopin period is the one she really harps on about in interviews though. Probably because she has someone to 'blame' for it; her physicans who wrote never-ending scripts for a powerful benzodiazopene to someone with known addictive issues, her 'people' who forced her to go into psychiatrist care following the coke/booze period, the drug companies who have a dangerous product on the market, etc. No responsibilty on her part.
I dunno, I always read the package inserts of whatever pills my MD prescribes for me. "Gee, says here take one as needed for anxiety, not to exceed blah blah etc". Couldn't Glenn or Rebecca, or Barbara Nicks, or Lori etc read it for her if she was too much of a diva to read it herself?
I know everyone is going to sling arrows at me for this post. But the whole Klonopin addiction to me was ridiculous and should never have gone down the way it did.

I think she places the blame on the coke on the times. She often says nobody told them it was bad, etc.
I knew at age 15 from experience that drinking all night made you feel like crap the next day and that meant it could not possibly be good for you no matter how much fun it was to get snot slinging, knee walking, toilet hugging, hellraising drunk with your pals the night before  Ditto for the drugs in college. Plus, I was alive in the 70's and I remember the ads were on TV and elsewhere that drugs were bad for you. Though the Betty Ford Clinics of the world were really not around then, many other hospitals for addiction existed and had existed for years. So, when people say they did not know it was bad for them, I call BS.
As for the Klonopin, I think she was somewhat hoodwinked with that. It takes a strong person to stand up to a doctor; they are supposed to be the experts. As for her friends, they may not have known that she was addicted until 1989 or so - she was clearly out of her mind when I saw her then in Dallas. But, at the Dallas BTM show, she was lucid. So, I wonder how evident it was and when she started to combine the Klonopin with the Valium, etc.
In terms of her career tanking and that being a catalyst for the altered mental state, the platinum OOTM with its top 20 single, was not a flop by any means, though it was not the seller that her former solo records were. And, BTM was a hit as well, though it was not a seller like the prior FM records. So, I she was beginning to realize her career was tanking and was looking for escapism.
On edit - I make no comment on the fact that she was addicted, which is a disease. I comment only on her statements that nobody ever said the coke was bad for them. I mean if it was so harmless, why was it illegal? Surely, that conversation came up once or twice along with the nosebleeds

Agreed. I've heard her say this too. "No one ever told us this was bad for us".

A reputable physican, true to his Oath, wouldn't hoodwink a patient. I tend to believe Stevie's physician was an LA-based 'Dr. Feelgood' that would liberally write prescriptions out regardless of patient outcome. We even have them here in NYC. It's a cash-only business. And they do get busted.

I can't really say I found her to be entirely more lucid at the BTM shows I caught. Maybe a little, but I think Stevie is also heavily influenced by who surrounds her on stage. She might have reduced her pill intake in order to keep up with Christine, Mick, Rick and Billy etc. But it wasn't a 'Mirage' -era performance by any means. Or a RAL-era performance, for that matter.

True. Even Paul Fishkin said that each subsequent release after a certain period sold less and less. If we graphed it, not sure when we'd see the downward turn, but I'd say probably all releases after TWH.

Right. Someone has to tell you that a powdered substance that costs thousands of dollars and is bought covertly from shady folks, sniffed into your nose and makes you go ZING!!!! is probably bad for you? Again, it's a blame game.

Her solo stuff declined by half each time -but, TITN reinvigorated her career as it sold millions of records and had four or five hit singles here and abroad. So, I think she had no reason to think OOTM was not going to sell and sell well. Then, ROF was a hit pretty much overnight and the album went to #10 (RAL only hit 12). Then, she toured here and in Europe and the most was for the most part successful. Again, nothing like the early 80's, but successful nonetheless.
So, I think she knew she was less popular than before, but clearly she was justified in thinking she was still fairly popular, esp. when FMGH went on to sell so well. I think the slap of reality hit her when she went to record the songs for Timespace and her record company (in a very changed industry by then) tried to manhandle her.
No one likes to see their life's passion crumbling before them and into the hands of some suit who knows nothing about you.
This link is pretty cool on this subject:

I think the buses for the SA tour might have been a slap of reality too. I doubt she woke up one morning and said "ya know what? Instead of flying to my gigs, first or business class, and limos, we'll take buses. It'll be fun!"
She was a trooper though. In interviews during the time, she said she was enjoying the bus tour. Maybe, the sunny attitude was just to cover the pain..

There is one (print I think) where she talks about a belt breaking on the bus while in a remote area in, I think, Denver. They used, I think, a bra to get the bus back up and going. I would have LOVED to have been there for that

I think Stevie might be able to laugh at the coke up the butt thing. Shes probably developed a pretty thick skin by now. But yeah, Will Ferrel is not funny. Ok, its kinda funny when he swears, but I just dont understand his appeal.

While Stevie has never minded talking about the drug use, she has said she was insulted about the rectum story, denied it, said she was a "lady" and wouldn't do that, etc. While she hasn't talked about it in years, since she hated it when she did speak of it, I don't think she has developed a thick skin about that rumor.
You have to see Stranger than Fiction, david, Ferrell is absolutely brilliant in that film.

Isn't that a great film? I hope he makes more like that. But you know I thought he was the best thing about Woody Allen's Melinda And Melinda too. It's a shame so few people have seen both those films.

:( Sorry I just don't find Will Ferrell appealing at all, I think his mouth gets him in trouble when he thinks he is being politically correctly funny. If he had said less jokes that were harmful to Stevie, maybe it would have been ok.I feel sorry for him and his family that has to watch him speak trash. Oh well, only my opinion, but I stand on it.:blob2:

Hmmm.. well what I meant was, she probably has developed a thick skin when it comes to things that actually happened. Shes had enough time to put them in perspective, deal with them, cry about them, and get over them. Rumors are a different story I guess. But even so, so many years in showbiz you gotta know that people are always going to say crazy shit. I just think it was funny that he "went there". I wasnt expecting him to say that exactly. His humor is shock value, a bit of charm, and nothing more.

Fantastic film, Forster is an amazing director. I couldn't stand Ferrell before seeing it (I wasn't too keen on Melinda & Melinda but mostly for the movie in itself).
Besides, Thompson and Hoffman showed an incredible chemistry in Stranger than Fiction. It's a shame Forster cut their scene... but I put it back together again. ;)
